ESPN’s Erin Andrews Death Threats

Erin Andrews, an ESPN sportscaster, has been receiving death threats though emails, said an attorney of Ern Andrews. Atty. Marshall Grossman said that an alleged man has been sending at least a dozen e-mails since September last year, threatening the sportscaster. DirecTV provided them to Andrews’ representatives Thursday, but it was not immediately clear to whom the e-mails were addressed. The e-mails at first were sexualbut it has been getting explicitly violent recently and “threatened Erin with murder,” Grossman said. They also had details about location and method. The messages discuss the case of Michael David Barrett, who was sentenced last month to 2 1/2 years in federal prison for secretly shooting nude videos of the ESPN reporter. “He refers to Barrett in his e-mail in a way to make clear to us that situation had some influence,” Grossman said, but added that the man appeared to have no ties to Barrett. The FBI has been notified, Grossman said. He said the man’s identity is known to law enforcement and is believed to live on the East Coast. An e-mail message left for an FBI spokeswoman was not immediately returned. Andrews is not yet seeking a restraining order but has asked ABC to beef up its security on “Dancing with the Stars,” Grossman said. Private security also has been hired to protect Andrews and her family. Andrews has no plans of quitting the show. “She’s not the type to be easily threatened,” Grossman said. “She has every intention to meet her obligations.” Erin Andrews, an ESPN sportscaster, has been receiving death threats though emails, said an attorney of Ern Andrews. Natural Gas Price Differentials Trend Up

Kurt Wulff ( McDep Associates ) submits: We raise our estimated 2010 distribution yield for buy-recommended Dorchester Minerals ( DMLP ), Hugoton Royalty Trust ( HGT ) and San Juan Basin Royalty Trust ( SJT ) to 8.9%, 8.2% and 8.1% respectively, because the natural gas price trend has been better for the North American average than for the widely quoted New York Mercantile Exchange near month futures. New capacity has made the continental pipeline transmission grid more efficient. We also raise estimated Net Present Value (NPV) for SJT to $23 a share from $21 because year-end 2009 reserves estimated by the independent engineer, disclosed on March 1, point to a longer life index of more than 15 years compared to 9 years previously. While we never believed the low number, it had a restraining influence on our estimate of NPV and perhaps stock price. Price Differentials Trend Up Regional price differentials are recovering from surprisingly wide discounts compared to the Henry Hub reference point in Louisiana. Each producer is typically active in more than one region and makes different adjustments to price. We can see the overall trend in the history and projections in two of our income groups. Natural gas transmission has some “common carrier” characteristics with “equal access” under government regulation. In a fully developed transportation system with ample capacity, the differences in price from region to region ought to be minimal, similar to commissions on securities transactions when trading is active. Major contributors to the current leveling include the completion of west to east pipeline capacity and new shale gas supply close to the Henry Hub. Raise NPV for SJT on Reserve Life Independent estimates of reserves for royalty trusts, like local government assessments on real estate, have conflicting implications. When estimates are low, tax payments are lower, but the suggested market value is also low. In the case of royalty trusts, investors claim depletion to reduce income taxes. A low ratio of reserves to production, as was the case for SJT a year ago, allows for more depletion and lower income tax payments. That could be an advantage to long-term owners. Yet when a low reserve life for a natural gas property, or a low assessed value for a house influences realized price, the owner who sells at that time may be disadvantaged. Technically, we calculate reserve life for SJT by scaling up the engineer’s estimate of royalty reserves by the ratio of working interest production to royalty interest production and dividing by 2010 working interest production. On the revised estimate, NPV for SJT looks more reasonable in the relationship of cash flow multiple and reserve life. Complete Story

David Letterman ‘Grateful’ After Extortionist Pleads Guilty

Joe Halderman sentenced to six months in prison for attempted grand larceny after threatening to expose talk-show host’s affair with staffer. By Gil Kaufman David Letterman Photo: Ray Tamarra/Getty Images David Letterman breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday after former CBS News producer Robert “Joe” Halderman pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny in a Manhattan courtroom. Shortly after the plea was announced, the “Late Show With David Letterman” host released a statement in which he praised prosecutors, saying, “When they became involved with this case, I had complete faith that a just and appropriate result was inevitable. On behalf of my family, I am extremely grateful for their tireless efforts.” Later, on the air, Letterman said he’d never been involved in anything like this before and was initially “full of anxiety and nervous and worried” about the plea, according to a Reuters report. But his fears were calmed when prosecutors assured him it would be handled “skillfully and appropriately.” He went on to thank Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and former District Attorney Robert Morgenthau for helping out on the case. Months after a surprising sex scandal exposed the behind-the-scenes affair the very private Letterman carried on with a staffer, the plea deal by Halderman avoided a potentially embarrassing trial. Halderman, 52, was sentenced to six months in prison after his guilty plea over a scheme in which he attempted to extort $2 million from Letterman in exchange for keeping quiet about the affair. After originally pleading not guilty in October to the charges, Halderman took a plea bargain in which he will also do 1,000 hours of community service and be on probation for five years, according to Reuters. Halderman had been facing up to 15 years in prison for attempted grand larceny. During his court appearance, Halderman said he felt “great remorse” for his actions, and he apologized to Letterman for the incident. Halderman’s lawyer had initially claimed the producer was trying to sell a script to the late-night host, not extort money. “In September of 2009, I attempted to extort $2 million from David Letterman by threatening to disclose personal and private information about him, whether true or false,” Halderman told the judge. The producer had lived with Stephanie Birkitt, a Letterman staffer, and after learning of her affair with the married father of a young son, Halderman demanded the money in exchange for not going public with the potentially damaging information. Letterman went directly to police, and Halderman was later arrested while trying to cash a phony check given to him by one of the comedian’s attorneys. Letterman admitted to the infidelity on air and discussed the extortion attempt on a show in October. According to People magazine, in a statement, Letterman’s attorney, Daniel J. Horwitz, said, “[Halderman’s] admissions today were compelling, and for that he will receive a serious sentence.”
