Michael Lynche Eliminated from American Idol

American Idol may be an utter bore this season, but it can still deliver an emotional wallop at times. On last night’s results show, for example, Michael Lynche and Crystal Bowersox found themselves in the bottom two. After Ryan Seacrest revealed that Big Mike would be heading home, the tears started to flow. First, from Michael’s wife, cradling the couple’s newborn daughter. Then, from various audience members as Lynche sang Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” and, finally, from a certain celebrity gossip blogger’s living room. He just seemed really nice, okay?!? We’re down to Bowersox, Casey James and Lee DeWyze on the worst season in Idol history. Who do you hope takes home the crown? The night was not a total downer, of course. Bon Jovi, Daughtry and Fantasia all performed. Along with shots of Mike and Crystal, these artists are featured below:

American Idol’s Top 3

The four remaining contestants on American Idol performed at their best Tuesday night. They performed songs from Hollywood movies like Caddyshack and Free Willy. However, Wednesday on American Idol, one of them was eliminated. Meanwhile, the others will continue on the road to the finale. Michael Lynche ended his journey on Idol. Lynche is the physical trainer with the torso of a colossus and a voice built on a similar scale. Earlier in the season, the judges rescued Big Mike from elimination but this time, he had trouble gaining votes from the viewers. The three finalists are Casey James, Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersoc. They’ll be moving forward to the finale of American Idol. American Idol’s Top 3 is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

‘American Idol’ Experts Predict End For Casey James — Again

DioGuardi fave’s ‘Mrs. Robinson’ failed to impress, while Big Mike’s ‘Free Willy’ song couldn’t be rescued. By Gil Kaufman Casey James Photo: FOX It’s do-or-die time on “American Idol,” and as the judges reminded the final four on Tuesday night, it’s time to prove that you want to win — not just show or place. That said, Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox brought their “A”-games on a night devoted to Songs of the Cinema, including a simmering, knockout duet on the “Once” ballad “Falling Slowly.” Meanwhile, Casey James and Michael Lynche struggled to impress the judges — and our “Idol” experts. “Is this the third week in a row I’ve picked Casey to go ?” wondered MTV News’ Jim Cantiello. “It might be. But this week he was upstaged by Michael ‘A Year Ago I Promised Myself I’d Make It Into the Top 3′ Lynche, who was his only real competition.” Remarking that the Bowersox/Dewyze finale is all but assured, Cantiello said he was into James’ ukulele-strumming take on Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” from “The Graduate,” but he wasn’t sure it had as strong an impact as big Mike’s choir-backed take on Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” from the boy-and-his-whale tale “Free Willy.” “Not to mention that the audience right in front of him in the mosh pit couldn’t have looked less interested,” he said of James’ underwhelming effect. “There aren’t enough cougars on the planet to keep Casey alive.” MJ Santilli, founder of “Idol” fansite mjsbigblog.com is sure that Lynche and James will make up the bottom two on Wednesday night, if for no other reason than Dewyze and Bowersox just have too much momentum at this point. But who will go home? Even though she thought James performed well, Santilli sensed that the judges were doing their best to undermine his performance by reprising the Kara DioGuardi cougar-bait shtick. “Casey kind of asked for it, choosing to sing ‘Mrs. Robinson,’ a song about a young man seducing an older woman,” she said. “But, he still deserved to have his song critiqued properly.” Santilli said Lynche’s performance was a “snooze-fest,” and since the judges didn’t have much to say for it either, fans might forget to vote for the burly personal trainer. “It’s hard to pick, but I think I’m going with Casey,” she said finally. “He wasn’t in the bottom last week, but that may relax the ‘panic’ voters. Plus, Casey is likely splitting votes with Lee and Crystal. So, Casey? Have a nice trip back to Texas.” What do you think of our experts’ picks? Do you agree? Let us know by leaving a comment below. ‘American Idol’ Report Card: Who Was A Star On Movie Night?

Crystal earns an Excellent grade for her ‘Caddyshack’ cover; Big Mike’s ‘Free Willy’ fails. By Eric Ditzian Crystal Bowersox performs on “American Idol” Tuesday Photo: FOX The numbers in our “American Idol” classroom are dwindling, and that’s forcing producers to get creative. Thus Tuesday night’s Songs of Cinema theme introduced a dose of group work into the live show, as the top four contestants sang a couple of duets in addition to their familiar individual efforts. The ensembles proved to be the night’s saving grace. Before we dole out the grades, we’ve got an extra credit question for the “Idol” conspiracy theorists among you: What was the thinking behind pairing Crystal Bowersox with Lee Dewyze and Michael Lynche with Casey James? Hmmmm. And how about a bonus extra-credit question: What does it mean that for three out of the four contestants, their duets were far superior to their solo performances? In any event, “American Idol” is a competition for individuals, and the singers must be graded on this basic fact: How did each one fair? That’s exactly what we plan do as we push forward with another edition of our “American Idol” report card. (And don’t miss Jim Cantiello’s recap of their performances in the MTV Newsroom.) Excellent Crystal Bowersox : Her blown-glass mic stand was back, and so was MamaSox! After two straight weeks of adequate, if not revelatory, performances, the 24-year-old stormed back with a truly unlikely performance. A song from freakin’ “Caddyshack” ? Really? And yet, the country-rock makeover she gave Kenny Loggins’ “I’m Alright” simply worked. By now we hardly have to mention that her vocals were on point; they’re always on point. And then her duet with Dewyze (“Falling Slowly” from “Once”) showed off such easy chemistry, such likability, we’d say she might just have locked up the competition. But we already knew that, right? Good Casey James : Casey probably should have known better, picking “Mrs. Robinson” after his entire story arc this season has boiled down to a cougar-rific connection to Kara DioGuardi. Wise or not, the song — with its mandolin-driven bluegrass feel — was a pleasing choice that stayed well within James’ vocal abilities. Was it a bit lazy, as Simon Cowell suggested? Perhaps. But we’d take a few more weeks of “Mrs. Robinson”-esque ditties rather than James back in his bar-band rocker mode. Meanwhile, his duet with Big Mike of Bryan Adams’ “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” was an even stronger performance. It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens between these two singers come elimination time. Satisfactory Lee Dewyze : We’ve known for a long time now that Dewyze suffers from persistent pitch problems. Have those deficiencies ever been on display as glaringly as they were during Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose”? As the judges pointed out, that tune is a crazily difficult one to pull off, and Dewyze simply wasn’t up to the challenge. He did little to change up the tune, and while we wouldn’t go so far as to label the performance “karaoke” — as Cowell did — we will say that it was a colossal disappointment from a singer who’s supposed to be giving Bowersox a run for the “Idol” crown. Luckily for him, he was paired with MamaSox for his duet, and he rode her dreadlocks to the highest praise of the evening. Unsatisfactory Michael Lynche : Big Mike gives us our toughest call of the night. Was he merely OK during Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There,” or truly subpar? We enjoyed the gospel choir backing him up, but there’s no getting away from the roller-coaster path of his vocals from beginning to end. But in the end, Big Mike ends up at the bottom of our grading curve for making the worst song choice of the evening. Even Ellen DeGeneres couldn’t help but mock the selection, calling “Free Willy” “one of the classic, great movies of all time.” If you believe that one, you might also believe that Big Mike has a shot at winning “Idol” season nine. American Idol Gets Crystal-ized

Need a few examples that illustrate how far American Idol has fallen on season nine? Fox now airs commercials for the remaining episodes that don’t even focus on the contestants. Instead, they hype this as Simon’s final season. On last night’s movie-themed edition, Casey James resorted to a rendition of “Mrs. Robinson” from The Graduate , in order to revive jokes about Kara’s crush on him and distract from his lack of actual, finals-worthy ability. Kara critiqued Lee’s “Kiss From a Rose” with these vapid words: “It’s one of most difficult songs to sing. But you can’t take away from the fact that you are still great.” Really? This is the final four. Isn’t he supposed to be able to sing difficult songs at this point? Former finalist Blake Lewis, blogging for USA Today , wrote: “The show is getting close to over and I am waiting for someone to have an amazing performance, but this year has been pretty boring, I must say. Hopefully someone will prove me wrong.” Amen, Blake. We’ve ranked last night’s performances below, simply because we have to: Crystal Bowersox : Ellen said the evening got “Crystal-ized” with this rendition of “I’m Alright.” Sadly, that pun was the highlight of the entire episode. Lee DeWyze : We summed him up above. The judges agreed his performance wasn’t anything special, but basically admitted: Eh, you’re better than Michael and Casey. Michael Lynche: Went with Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” and did his usual connecting with the audience. At some point, though, viewers will have to realize that Big Mike’s singing voice is nothing special. Casey James: The whole “Mrs. Robinson” thing was forced and lame. It’s his time to go home. Is Casey James the Next American Idol?

There have only been two American Idol seasons where a foregone conclusion actually came to pass — seasons three and four, when Fantasia Barrino and Carrie Underwood exacted pitch-perfect ascents to the Idol coronation ceremony. Since then, we’ve had some sneaky wunderkinds weasel their way to the top: Kris Allen and his acoustic turnabouts won season eight; Jordin Sparks and her youthful trills toppled Melinda Doolittle in season six. And now, in season ten, Casey James could be on his way to derailing the long-favored Crystal Bowersox. Sound crazy? Not when you consider why voters go to pick up the phone.

‘American Idol’ Fans Split On Siobhan Magnus Elimination

Some say it was Siobhan’s time to go, others are outraged. By MTV News Staff Siobhan Magnus Photo: FOX Randy Jackson loved her “punk-country” look and Kara DioGuardi declared, “Guess who’s back? Siobhan!” But this week, “American Idol” voters seemed to side with Simon Cowell when he said of Siobhan Magnus’ performance, “I think the screaming at the end may have gone a little bit — it was almost like you were giving birth up there.” And so the 20-year-old Cape Cod resident is the latest “Idol” hopeful to get the boot — to the surprise of “Idol” experts MTV News spoke with on Thursday (April 29). As expected, fans are split on the decision, with some arguing it was Siobhan’s time to go and others declaring the elimination to be a disgrace. “Siobhan was the most interesting and entertaining of the singers, and man, can she sing!” wrote MTV News reader Violet. “If you have a good ear and any experience singing, you would hear that she hits every high note dead on. That’s not a screech. She has an incredibly wide range and just maybe needed some more positive comments from the judges?” Not so, contends reader Eric. “Siobhan has a wee bit too much ‘screech’ in her voice,” he wrote. “She needs more experience. But ultimately she’ll [get] there if she doesn’t lose interest.” According to reader Peggy Sue, Siobhan’s problem was simply a matter of failing to pick the songs that fit her vocal strengths. “Siobhan was signing from her throat, not the right place, so when she sang softly with lower notes it sounded weird,” she wrote. “That’s why she sounded so good on ‘Think’ — it forced her to get out of her throat. I agree that she sounded stupendous on those kinds of songs, she should have stuck to them. But instead she sang a lot of slower ballads that sounded unpleasant.” While there’s no agreement about the justice of Siobhan’s ouster, there are a range of opinions about the contestant who really deserves to go home. Some feel Lee Dewyze has been over-praised by the judges, while a few have tapped Casey James as the most deserving bootee. “I do not understand what Americans see in Casey James,” writes Luckybarbe. “Just listen to his voice, OMG it’s not that good, it’s sort of annoying. I think women are looking at his looks more than listening to the way he sounds.” Do you think it was Siobhan’s time to leave ‘American Idol’? Let us know in the comments below! When American Idol Meets The Twilight Saga…

During their weekly Ford commercial, the remaining six finalists made like Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz and company, baring fangs and pretending to be vampires… while Michael Lynche fought them off with a garlic pizza. It was a strange sight all around, though Casey James and Crystal Bowersox actually pull off the look well, don’t they? Watch the commercial below now, before Fox yanks it off YouTube: Twilight Meets American Idol What do you think of the commercial? Very cool, or very WTF?!?
