‘Harry Potter’ Star Tom Felton Explains How Actors Will Age In ‘Deathly Hallows’

‘I’ve been having some aging training,’ Felton says of film’s epilogue. By Eric Ditzian Tom Felton Photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage We’ve been openly speculating about it for far too long: How will the minds behind “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” shoot the story’s epilogue, which picks up almost two decades in the future? Would director David Yates and his team hire older actors to stand in for Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the cast or would he employ special effects to age the familiar “Potter” faces? Now we know for sure. Speaking with MTV News, co-star Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) revealed that he and the rest of the cast will play older versions of their characters. What’s more — achieving those looks will require a mix of prosthetics and CGI technology. “For nearly two months, we’ve all been doing prosthetic tests and all sorts of preparation for the epilogue,” Felton said. “I’ve been having some aging training. You’ve got to walk differently. There’s a slump in your walk.” Those tests must have been successful because a schedule to shoot the scene has already been set. “It’s going to be the last big thing that we do. It’s going to be on location,” he explained, going on to say that it should take three days of filming to complete. Until then, he’s been busy practicing how to play a character on the verge of turning 40. So how exactly does one train to be old? “It’s bizarre,” Felton laughed. “We have a lovely guy who comes in. It was a little weird the first time — imagine you’ve got weights on your arms! There have been a number of times where I nearly laughed and I had to hold it in.” Felton should finally wrap up his decade-long commitment to the franchise in June, about six months before the November release date of the first part of “Deathly Hallows.” And while a bit of sadness has crept into the proceedings at the thought of leaving the series behind, he’s eagerly anticipating the chance to film the epilogue at long last and thankful that he — and not an older actor — will be in front of the camera when it all goes down. “We’re probably at the most exciting bit,” he said. “Certainly the part I’ve been most looking forward to. It’s going to be very exciting.” Did the “Deathly Hallows” director make the right call? Tell us in the comments! Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. Dancing with the Stars Cast Relieved Kate Gosselin is Gone

Kate Gosselin got the boot from Dancing With the Stars Tuesday night. The remaining dancers and cast collectively thought: It’s about time. The mother of eight caused drama before the show even premiered in March, acting like a diva during rehearsals and making crazy demands on set. Crazy demands like crew members not being allowed to look at her. Seriously. So you can imagine the rejuvenated vibe now that she’s finally gone. “Everyone couldn’t be more relieved,” a source says … but just wait ’til they have to deal with Rachel Uchitel . That’ll pose a whole new set of issues.

Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ Musical Is ‘Daring And Loud,’ Cast Says

‘I am just continually astonished by their artistry and the power and the beauty of these songs,’ director Michael Mayer says. By James Montgomery Billie Joe Armstrong at “American Idiot” on Broadway Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Green Day’s “American Idiot” musical made its official Broadway premiere at New York’s St. James Theatre on Tuesday night. If the band being moved to tears by the production isn’t motivation enough to make the trip to NYC to see the show, well, we figured we’d let the cast and crew tell you why you should check it out. “As big a fan as someone is of Green Day, they might not even know how much dramatic potential is inside these songs,” director Michael Mayer said. “And they have never heard them sung in this way before, so I think they may have a deeper appreciation of what Billie Joe and Mike and Tre have written. I hope they do [come see it], because I am just continually astonished by their artistry and the power and the beauty of these songs.” Like Green Day said earlier , the “Idiot” musical is a lot like seeing the band live: roaring, loud and unapologetic. But to hear Mayer tell it, there’s also a side most fans can’t see in concert — one that is brought right to the forefront on the Broadway stage. “When you go see them in concert, or you watch their videos or you go see them in any of their work or like awards shows and stuff, anytime that you see them perform, they’re so ferocious,” he said. “They’re wild, but then when you get to know them as people … they’re really sensitive, intelligent, articulate, caring people … and that’s an aspect that comes through in this play, in these songs.” That personal touch extends to the cast of “Idiot” too. Because, growing up, they were all Green Day fans, and doing this musical was most definitely a labor of love. “I always loved their music. I remember loving the song ‘She,’ and we [all] talk about the song ‘Basket Case,’ ” said Rebecca Naomi Jones, who plays Whatsername. “Those old songs are just so good … the driving beats and awesome bass lines and Billie Joe’s voice. And some of the American Idiot songs are just out of this world.” “It blew my mind when I first heard their music. … I can still remember the first time I saw the music video for ‘Basket Case.’ I didn’t have cable, so I had to go to my cousin’s house to watch it,” added John Gallagher Jr., who plays Johnny. “I was mesmerized, but I was also scared of them. I fell for them, I loved all their records, and then I heard American Idiot, and I was like, ‘Wow, these guys have stepped it up.’ And this production is like that album: smart, edgy, daring and loud … but it has so much sensitivity and emotion in it. I have been pinching myself through this entire process, and I can’t see myself stopping anytime soon.” Will you make your way to NYC to see “American Idiot” on Broadway? Let us know in the comments! Martha Stewart, Jimmy Fallon Are Happy Conan O’Brien ‘Found A Home’

‘Conan, I want to be your first guest!’ Stewart says following O’Brien’s TBS announcement. By Jocelyn Vena Conan O’Brien Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images On Monday night, New York was abuzz with the news that Conan O’Brien’s next late-night venture wouldn’t be on Fox, as was originally believed, but instead on cable network TBS, which is already the home of George Lopez’s late-night show . While the move came as a bit of a surprise to fans, his colleagues were happy that O’Brien, who is currently on the road for his comedy tour , has found a new place on the small screen. “I’m so happy he has a home,” Martha Stewart raved to MTV News on the red carpet for Good Housekeeping ‘s 125th anniversary celebration. “I knew he would, but he’s fabulous. I love him. Conan, I want to be your first guest!” At the same event, outspoken talk-show diva Wendy Williams speculated that the deal from TBS was probably too sweet to turn down. “When I heard it, I thought it was kind of strange, but you know what, we haven’t heard the financial payout,” she said. “Maybe he’s getting more money than he ever made before. Maybe he’s got a master plan. Maybe it’s only a two-year deal. Maybe he’s not going to be there forever. I don’t know.” Meanwhile, at a “Saturday Night Live” event at New York’s Pierre Hotel, Jimmy Fallon and Andy Samberg commented on the big news. “There’s nothing that Conan can do that I won’t watch. I’m excited for it,” Samberg said. Fallon, who’s been holding down NBC’s “Late Night” since Conan left, felt that the move is right not only for O’Brien, but also for TBS. “It’s great for everybody, great for Conan. I know he’s happy,” Fallon said. “I haven’t talked to him, but I talked to him a couple of weeks ago, and TBS should be really happy because they made a great move. He’s a great, funny dude, and I can’t wait to see him.” What do you think of Conan’s move to TBS? Tell us in the comments! Related Photos Conan’s Career In Photos

‘Glee’ Cast Goes (Lady) Gaga At Spring Premiere Party

‘I can tell you I am not going to be wearing the crime scene tape,’ Cory Monteith joked about ‘Glee’ Lady Gaga episode. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Audrey Kim Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith at the “Glee” spring premiere Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images While fans are raving about the season premiere of “Glee” and the cast have even hinted at some relationship shakeups this time around, it was the upcoming Lady Gaga episode that had the cast talking at Monday’s premiere party in Los Angeles. “Her music and her influence on pop music right now, it’s so well expressed by ‘Glee.’ The way that that episode goes with Lady Gaga’s music is amazing,” actor Cory Monteith shared with MTV News. “We’re just in the midst of filming it right now and I can’t wait for you to see it. I can tell you I am not going to be wearing the crime scene tape.” Cast member Amber Riley revealed that the dancing will be pretty sweet in the episode. “We just did Gaga today,” she said. “We did one of the dance numbers today and I had so much fun. I didn’t want it to end.” Chris Colfer tweeted about getting the chance to wear Gaga’s signature sky-high heels, and pics of him dressed in a dress similar to the one that she wore in her “Bad Romance” video appeared on PerezHilton.com . He admits he’s lucky he didn’t get seriously injured. “Quite a process today dancing our Lady Gaga number in the 10-inch heels. But thankfully I didn’t injure myself, which is really surprising since I injure myself, like, standing up in rehearsals,” he joked. “So I’m very thankful I didn’t have to go to the ER again.” And Colfer wasn’t the only fellow who had trouble imitating Gaga. Kevin McHale explained, “The guys do their thing. Not all the guys can pull of Gaga. I can’t give anything away. We were filming some of the Gaga episode earlier today. It’s insane and the outfits are incredible and almost exactly true to the real Gaga outfits. I can’t wait for people to see it.” Co-star Naya Rivera summed up the Gaga episode this way: “Best episode we’ve ever shot, in my opinion,” she raved. “I’ve had so much fun. Our outfits are nuts. It’s so fun and the songs are so great. We all look great.” Are you looking forward to the Lady Gaga “Glee” episode? Tell us in the comments!
