The Bachelorette Premiere Recap: Beast Mode … Activated!!

Monday night on ABC, The Bachelorette finally unleashed the beast in the form of Season 15’s leading lady Hannah Brown. And you don’t need The Bachelorette spoilers to tell you that “Hannah Beast” promises to be a different kind of Bachelorette . For one, she came from outside The Bachelor’s top four earlier this winter. Secondarily, fan response has been … lukewarm. Look, to be clear, we’re not hating on Hannah whatsoever, but more than a few fans feel she’s the worst Bachelorette ever. Before the season even got underway, no less! In any case, the time for speculation is officially over as the May 13 premiere marked her debut on the iconic franchise. Did the University of Alabama grad disappoint? View Slideshow: The Bachelorette Spoilers: Check Out Hannah Brown’s Final THREE! [UPDATED] A frontrunner for the 2018 Miss Alabama turned interior designer’s heart emerged, as Bachelorette spoilers predicted. Whether or not her fiance was revealed this early is subject to debate, of course, as there’s a long, LONG way to go. Let’s break down the premiere, blow by blow: Or fame by frame, perhaps we ought to say, as the premiere opened with a twist… Hannah recruited her Bachelor friends Demi Burnett and Katie Morton to actually check out the suitors from a surveillance van on night one. Demi was on the lookout for Scott, who she heard through the Internet had a girlfriend back home and, therefore, would definitely be on the show for all the wrong reasons. Upon meeting this man, Scott laid it on thick with Hannah, offering to workshop their dream home and claiming that he took the whole Bachelorette process quite seriously. However, Demi warned Hannah that she received incriminating intel about him. Cue confrontation number-one! Akin to how folks say you need to find the biggest inmate and beat him up in order to earn respect in prison… Hannah barged into the Bachelorette Mansion. Scott responded to her accusations by saying he did NOT have a girlfriend, but, well, yes: there was a woman waiting for him back home. What a loser! The guy even went on to compare his situation to Hannah dating Colton Underwood before becoming the Bachelorette, an idea that really made no sense whatsoever. She was with someone before and is now single. That’s just how life works. Scott has backup options just waiting for his call! Having heard enough, Hannah trashed Scott as a “jerk” and swiftly threw him out of the house. The Bachelorette then told the remaining men to go home if they had similar circumstances, making it very clear they weren’t dealing with some pushover this season. Thankfully, no one else could relate to Scott. And some of these 30 aspiring husbands proved to be rather creative and funny upon their introductions: Connor S. jumped a fence, a sly reference to Colton doing the same on The Bachelor …. Devin lied about being a virgin, also mocking poor Colton… Joe leaped out of a box… and Cam did a freestyle rap. Prior to entering the mansion for the cocktail party Hannah paused to say a prayer. She then said that she had a slight crush on Jed after he sang her a “Roll Tide” ballad because Hannah hails from Alabama — and she shared kisses with Luke P., Connor S. and Cam! As for who earned the First Impression Rose? It went to a 24-year-old Import/Export Manager who showed off his shirtless physique in his introductory clip and who met Hannah back during the After the Rose special several weeks ago. “I think I’m a good looking guy,” this stud told the camera with a smile and laugh. “When I was in college, a lot of the girls around me thought so too.” This same person is from Gainesville, Georgia and said on air that God spoke to him in the shower once and that he changed his focus in life as a result and has been “working on the husband that I want to be for my future wife.” He also was the first person to comfort Hannah after she sent Scott packing. Yup: it’s Luke Parker! Pictured below with The Bachelorette, will he be able to go from early favorite to final one chosen? We’ll need to tune in if we want to find out — but we do not need to read through any The Bachelorette spoilers to know who no longer has a shot at Hannah’s heart. Brian, Chasen, Hunter, Joe, Matt Donald, Ryan and Thomas were all sent home during the first rose ceremony. That was an intense opener, huh? Is your favorite still in play for this summer’s very likely proposal? The Bachelorette airs on ABC Mondays at 8/7c on ABC. Game of Thrones: Can the Series Finale Save This Uneven Season?

Well, it finally happened. On Sunday night’s episode of Game of Thrones Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, First of Her Name and Perpetrator of Plot Twists broke bad and roasted more peasants than a medeival insult comic.  Like many, many others, we long ago predicted that the Khaleesi would make a heel turn and be revealed as the show’s final villain, but if Twitter is any indication, the events of “The Bell” came as a complete shock to many viewers. In one sense, this is hard to understand, as the show has been hinting at a darker side to Dany ever since her very first rants about “laying waste to armies” and taking what’s hers “with fire and blood” way back when her dragons were about the size of pet iguanas. But at the same time, the surprise is quite understandable. After all, prior to this week’s episode, the Khaleesi was arguably the show’s best-loved character, and many considered her ascendancy to the Iron Throne to he a foregone conclusion. As a result, creator’s D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have been accused of prioritizing shock value over organic character development with their decision to have Dany embrace her family’s mercurial nature and unleash unspeakable violence on innocenr civilians and soldiers who had already surrendered. If that were the case — if a character who had been built up as the savior of a people and an incorruptible force for good suddenly embracec wickedness out of nowhere — then these critics would be right to complain. But Dany’s turn was hinted at so often that many speculate it would never happen simply because it would be too predictable for a show that’s always trafficked in surprises. So yes, you have one camp griping that the character’s shift came out of nowhere, and another complaining that it was entirely too obvious. And in that sense, the clash over Dany’s true nature highlights the biggest challenge facing the Game of Thrones as we approach the show’s wildly anticipated finale: It’s nearly impossible for any show to conclude in a way that will leave an audience of millions universally satisfied — and that task is even harder for a series that revels in moral ambiguity and long ago raised the bar in terms of gut-punch surprises. Don’t get us wrong, there were legitimate complaints to be made about “The Bells”: Several major figures behaved in ways that flew in the face of eight seasons’ worth of character development. Some combatants seemed to be shrouded in impenetrable plot armor (We’re looking at you, Arya!) while others met frustratingly anti-climactic fates. (Evil genius Cersei Lannister is felled by freakin’ falling rocks? Really?) But the main issue that many fans seem worried about is the climactic battle for the Iron Throne will likely be fought between Daenerys Targaryen and her conflicted neph-boo Jon Snow. This is a baffling concern, not only becsause the show has been foreshadowing such a conflict for quite some time, but also because Weiss and Benioff insist that they’re staying true to the “broadstrokes” of the ending mapped out by George R.R. Martin’s several years ago. Yes, they’ve made some missteps along the way (The less said about the lighting for the Battle of Winterfell, the better.), but we’ll continue to place our faith that the kings who led us this far will be wise and just in wrapping up TV’s most ambitious story. Knicks Legend Kristaps Porzingis Caught A Russian Fade In Latvia: Report

Read the original:

Source: Matteo Marchi / Getty Kristaps Porzingis seems to be steeped in the struggle since being traded by the Knicks. The man many call “The Unicorn” allegedly caught a fade courtesy of some Russians while he was back home in Latvia. The Mavericks are investigating All-Star Kristaps Porzingis’ altercation in Europe over weekend and current understanding is he was jumped at a club, assaulted and hit by objects, @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium has learned. — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 12, 2019 It would seem that these “Russians” were also Knicks fans, and not to happy Porzingis requested a trade. Reports TMZ Sports : Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis was reduced to a bloody mess in his home country of Latvia after he was apparently involved in a brawl that left him wanting more. Eyewitnesses tell TMZ Sports … the Euro NBA player was in his hometown of Liepaja over the weekend, where we’re told he was celebrating some occasion through a number of clubs and pubs in the area. Our sources say that a handful of Russians confronted Kristaps, supposedly upset with the fact that he’d switched teams down here in the States … and an all-out tussle broke out. It would appear to have been pretty violent, ’cause Kristaps was bleeding from his head. This video appears to capture the aftermath of the fight … which almost wasn’t over if Kristaps would have had his way. You can see him — again, bleeding and with a torn shirt — being held back by a woman at first, who he shoves aside. How is Porzingis even getting touched up like this in his hometown? The Dallas Mavericks have acknowledged the incident, but that’s about. Sounds like Porzingis needs to get some goons on the payroll. — Photo:

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 Review: What’s Love Got to Do with It?

Many years ago on The Office, a question was posed to Michael Scott: Would you rather be loved or feared? “Easy. Both,” he replied. “I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.” On  Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 , however, it was finally made frustratingly and painfully clear: Daenerys Targaryen is no Michael Scott. In the most telling scene of the penultimate installment, Dany is pissed that Jon Snow spilled his all his heritage tea to his siblings, telling her nephew and lover after burning Varys alive for his betrayal: “This is a victory for [Sansa]. Now she knows what happens when people hear the truth about you. Far more people in Westeros love you than love me. I don’t have love here. I only have fear.” Jon says he loves her. He assures Dany that she is, and always will be, his Queen. “Is that all I am to you? Your queen?” Dany responds, leaning in for an incestuous makeout session that gets rebuffed. “Alright then,” she says. “Let it be fear.” This is when it’s made clear just what will happen to King’s Landing … and also where Game of Thrones decides to destroy Dany’s character once and for all. First of Her Name? The Unburnt? Queen of Meereen? Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men? Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea? Breaker of Chains? Mother of Dragons? Dany can now add Stereotypical and Sexist Portrayer of What the Writers Apparently Think Happens When a Woman Isn’t Love by a Man Exactly How She Wants To Be. Is that all she is to Jon? His Queen? That’s all Dany has wanted to be to anyone since Season 1. The Dany that has been presented to viewers for seven-plus seasons was never about love. She was never driven by this concept or emotion. She was ruthless, she was calculating and she was focused on her self-proclaimed destiny of sitting on the Iron Throne — but she was also about fighting for the innocent. What happened to the woman who freed slaves? Who talked about breaking the wheel? She was replaced on this final season by someone who claimed to Sansa weeks ago that she only chose to fight the White Walkers because she was just so smitten with Jon Snow — and who chose to go completely, totally and utterly off the rails on this episode because she was just so unloved. The abrupt character change has been more brutal to watch than any beheading. As you must know by now if you’re reading this, Team Winterfell successfully defeated the Golden Army and Cersei’s soldiers, largely thanks to Dany finally remembering that her dragon can shoot fire at enemies. The other side had given up. The bell signaling as much had been rung. But Dany needed to make her future peons fear her. She needed to kill thousands of innocents now so that thousands more could grow up without a tyrants rule down the line, according to her own warped logic from earlier in the episode. So The Mad Queen finally embraced this nickname and went all Dracarys on the men, women and children of King’s Landing. It made no sense. It turned an admirably strong and powerful woman into someone so scorned by her boyfriend that she decided to go crazy. Viewers can argue all they want about whether this has been teased since the beginning; since all that talk about Dany’s father, “The Mad King,” and how Targaryen blood is basically tainted with violence and instability. But Dany knew this about her family, vowed to remain above it all and continually followed through, staying rational and in control while doing what she felt necessary to achieve her dream. Then George R.R. Martin failed to finish his last book, the creators were forced to come up with their own ending and have dropped the ball here with not just Daenerys, but with Jamie as well. Talk about an even more abrupt and ridiculous character change! We spent season upon season watching Jamie Lannister evolve. One of the show’s most impressive accomplishments was turning Jamie from a renowned King Slayer and Attempted Child Killer into someone who knighted Brienne, realized the many errors of his evil sister-banging ways and was not dedicated to fighting for what is good and right. Until, that is, Sansa stated the obvious last week about how Cersei would be killed and then Jamie simply chose to be “hateful” again, breaking the heart of Brienne (another character ruined this season) and returning home to try and save Cersi. The siblings ended up dying together when the Red Keep crashed down upon them toward the end of Dany’s attack — but our hope for Jamie’s previously-well-earned redemption died long before that. What a mess. Did Martin explain his planned ending to producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and they were forced to reverse-engineer their own finale as a result? It seems very possible. There’s no way these two writers thought they’d have to come up with their own ending when they started working on the project. We can therefore understand the corner the show was perhaps backed into, but that doesn’t make the actul viewing of an episode such as this any more entertaining or any less frustrating. Dany has been a compassionate and harsh aspiring ruler; those two adjectives do not need to be in conflict with each other. Jamie has been a flawed, but developing and remorseful soldier; he had come the farthest of anyone on the show. And then, over the course of 80 minutes, the writers set fire to all that had been accomplished between these two fan favorites, setting up a finale that feels predictable ( Jon is clearly going to kill Dany , right?), anticlimactic and, worst, of all, unearned. 60-Year-Old Grandmother Named Cheyney University’s Valedictorian

Excerpt from:

A 60-year-old grandmother from Philadelphia is living proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. A few years ago, Rhonda E. Davis made it a priority to go back to school and get her college degree and she went above and beyond her goal by not only earning two degrees from Cheyney University but graduating as the institution’s Class of 2019 valedictorian, Philly.com reported. This 60-year-old Philly grandmother lived in the dorms at Cheyney. Now she’s the Class of 2019 valedictorian. | Inquirer https://t.co/k2T2BtqLVG — Philly Inquirer (@PhillyInquirer) May 10, 2019 The commencement ceremony was a culmination of a long journey for Davis. Pursuing her education was no easy feat. Davis’ mother had her at the age of 16. She was the oldest of six children and once she was a teenager she had to start working to help provide for her younger siblings. Her education was ultimately put on the back burner. Davis eventually started a family of her own and once her kids got older and her husband started working with SEPTA, she wanted to try something new and believed that education was the answer. After telling her husband that she planned on going to college to earn her degree, he decided to leave her. The lack of support didn’t stop the grandmother of 11 from going after what she wanted. She was awarded a scholarship through Cheyney University’s Keystone Honors Academy. Davis left her Southwest Philadelphia house and lived on campus where she became a source of inspiration for many of her fellow students. She would often tutor other students and give them advice about staying on the right track. At Cheyney, Davis displayed academic excellence. She earned a degree in graphic design and one in fine arts and finished with a 3.97 GPA. Her children and grandchildren were all in attendance at her commencement ceremony and her mother live-streamed the event from her Virginia Beach home. For Davis, the graduation was a full circle moment. She visited the HBCU in the 70s and loved the school. As for what’s on the horizon for Davis, she plans on growing her jewelry box business and creating children’s books. Her educational journey isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. Davis wants to pursue her master’s degree in fine arts. She hopes that her story inspires others to take charge of their lives. “Nothing changes, if nothing changes,” she said during her speech at the graduation ceremony. “You have to be the person who initiates that change.” SEE ALSO: West Point Makes Black History With Its 2019 Graduating Class Mother Surprised With Degree At Son’s College Graduation [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3852506″ overlay=”true”]

Meghan Markle: Happy Mother’s Day! Here’s a New Archie Photo!

Meghan Markle did not celebrate Mother’s Day for the first time on Sunday. But she did celebrate Mother’s Day for the first time as an actual mother. The Duchess of Sussex, who gave birth to son Archie this past Monday, posted a brand new image of the newborn earlier today in honor of this special occasion. Not everyone may have been aware upon first viewing the photom, but it also paid tribute to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. How so? In the snapshot, which was taken at the famous couple’s new Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor, Diana’s favorite flower, forget-me-nots, can be seen in the background. It’s a subtle, yet poignant nod to the mother-in-law Markle never had a chance to meet. “Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you,” Harry and Meghan wrote as a caption to this picture. They continued: “Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. “This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex.” And they concluded: “Quote from ‘lands’: my mother was my first country; the first place I ever lived.” According to various outlets, Markle is spending the day at home with her new son, alongside her husband and her mom Doria Ragland. The latter flew in to Great Britain several days before her daughter gave birth and has no plans to leave any time soon. Meghan and Harry, meanwhile, debuted little Archie last Wednesday. While fans are debating whether they gave their child this unexpected name in order to royally piss off Harry’s native country , the stars themselves seemed very relaxed and overjoyed during the photo opportunity. “It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy,” Markle told the gathered press, adding of her newborn: “He has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm.” Harry then quipped: “I don’t know where he gets that from!” And Markle added: “He’s just been a dream. It’s been a special couple of days.” Prior to this debut, Harry himself spoke briefly to members of the media. “I haven’t been in many births,” he said, adding in adorable fashion: “This is definitely my first birth. It was amazing, absolutely incredible. “As I said, I am so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon.” View Slideshow: Royal Baby Photos: Who Wore Their Blanket Best?
