Rolling Stone’s Tim Dickinson on the Inside Story of How Obama Let the World’s Most Dangerous Oil Company Get Away with Murder

An extensive new investigation into the Obama administration’s handling of the BP oil spill disaster reveals that it was government mismanagement, delays and absence of oversight that allowed the crisis to spiral out of control. In the article “The Spill, the Scandal, and the President,” Rolling Stone’s Tim Dickinson writes, “Though George W. Bush paved the way for the catastrophe, it was Obama who gave BP the green light to drill.” Dickinson explores how Interior Secretary Ken Salazar kept in place the oil industry-friendly environmental guidelines that Bush had implemented and ultimately let BP, an oil company with the worst safety record, to get away with murder. Sadly bp Gulf oil spill reaches Florida beaches!

As oil blobs show up sporadically many people start to pick up the blobs at Pensacola Beach. The disaster has reach our precious beach and it is no longer a prediction, now it is a fact that bp oil spill is destroying wild life and reaching our beaches. Members of the community came to protest bp Petroleum negligence and their failed respond to the catastrophe. Bill Paul of Pensacola, picture above, leads protesters in a walk along the beach as oil start to show up blobs by blobs. After seen so many days of failed attempts from bp petroleum to stop the oil spill without any significant result, many questions have rise. When will bp accomplish the task of stopping the oil? Will bp take full responsibility for the disaster? Who is going to bail out the resident of the Gulf Coast? Brava 🙁 added by: BRAVATRAVELS

Antiquated Law Preventing Foreign Naval Aid for Gulf Oil Spill Says CNBC’s Santelli, Heritage Foundation

When a protectionist law is enacted and nearly a century later it is inhibiting a recovery from major ecological catastrophe, it’s probably time to scrap it or at least temporarily waive it. But instead a nearly century old provision known as the Jones Act of 1920 is wielding the wrath of unintended consequences. According to the Heritage Foundation, this protectionist measure was put in place to defend the American maritime industry, but is endangering far more jobs than it is protecting. “The Jones Act, which is supposedly about protecting jobs, is actually killing jobs,” Heritage co-authors James Dean and Claude Berube wrote in a June 8 The Foundry post . “The jobs of fishermen, people working in tourism and others who live along the Gulf Coast and earn a living there are being severely impacted. There are also additional private sector jobs which are NOT being created in the United States since the Jones Act effectively prices U.S. based companies out of the ability to be competitive on the competitive global market. As we strive to develop new technologies for a cleaner environment at sea, the Jones Act continues to hobble our own capabilities, sometimes with devastating results.” And CNBC’s Rick Santelli also noted this impediment to recovery. According to the Belgian newspaper De Standaard , European firms could complete the task in four months, rather than an estimated nine months if done only by the U.S., and just three months if working with U.S. firms. “They are playing this war of words,” Santelli said on CNBC’s June 9 “Closing Bell.” “Just consider this, there’s an old law on the books Ron, called the Jones Act of 1920. I’ve looked at three articles in a Belgian newspaper. They have special ships that could make a big difference in cleaning this up. But they were told by the State Department that they can’t because that act, Jones of 1920 prohibits ships that aren’t made in the U.S. to do such things in U.S. waters.” And Dean and Berube suggest the law should be done away with altogether. “The Jones Act needs to be waived now in light of this catastrophe and permit those whom we have helped and cooperated with in the past to assist us in our need,” they wrote. “After waiving the Jones Act for the Gulf clean up effort, Congress and the administration should repealing it all together.”

STOP THE PRESSES: BP cut a pipe!

Oh my how absolutely brilliant! They actually know how to cut a pipe! Getting real tired of these BS maneuvers dragging out this catastrophe. I don't think they want to cap anything, I think they are deliberately stalling to find a way to get at the oil to sell it. Are we now supposed to CHEER BP. Heck, they couldn't even cut it straight! JUST CAP IT ALREADY. added by: JanforGore

Earth Care Group Blog: Oil still gushing out in plume in Gulf killing our water

I cannot describe in words to you the pain my soul feels now. I am not even a resident of this area and cannot begin to understand what it is like to lose your livelihood. However, I am a citizen of this world, and a sentient being with a connection to the Earth and a deep appreciation for understanding how it is all connected to us. This hurts us all, and it will affect generations of humans and all species for decades to come. That is why I have been hesitating regarding writing much about this here of late, because it is so emotional for me. To think of the extent of damage environmentally that is now being wrecked upon this area of the world and the ripple effect it will have seems too much to bear. The video linked here shows a live feed of the gusher (it is far from being a spill) after their bogus “top kill” method which they knew would fail, did just that. I don't know how good some of you are at connecting dots in situations, but this is a blatant example of corporate/governmental good ole boy ass covering, and using a situation to its fullest advantage to make a profit. I am going to again post an article here that I posted to Current.com regarding the dispersant Corexit that is being used by BP in order to illustrate this point. To say these people are not criminals that should be arrested for crimes against nature is to be one devoid of logic and morality. However, knowing the corrupt system we live in I fear it will have to be the people who takes matters into their own hands. I truly do wonder though if we have the moral courage to do so now. The US is addicted to oil, and we need an intervention. I surely thought this would be it. Yet, I still see people pulling into BP stations (shame on you) as if oblivious to the environmental holocaust being perpetrated by BP and their collusion in it by supporting them. And yes I know, oil on the whole is not good and we should be much more vocal about calling for CLEAN, AFFORDABLE, ALTERNATE ENERGY. SO WHY AREN'T WE? I did notice the SUN shining over the toxic oil sheened Gulf for all of these 42 days that this catastrophe has been allowed to continue that could power our lives. I did notice the WIND blowing in offshore breezes that holds the power we need to light our homes. The dichotomy was actually quite sad in seeing the oil soaked marinelife and wildlife struggling to live as well… just “collateral damage” to the bastards looking to now stall for time until AUGUST when their relief wells will supposedly be done, of course, without any guarantee they too will work to stop this bleeding of our Earth. The Black Tide of the Gulf is our moral ineptitude and apathy laid out in front of us. It is everything we are, and it is also representative of everything we could be as a species if we finally use this disaster to understandd our true place in this world. And it is not to be the arrogant all powerful masters we portend to be (and actually suck at.) It is to be a stewardship species that cherishes and respects the resources given to us as gifts and the species that live in sympatico with us. It is about respecting that most precious resource- Water. There will be no explaining ourselves should we fail in seeking justice for our planet and those who cannot speak for themselves. And perhaps for me, to think that after all that has happened that we as a species will not rise to the task is even more heartbreaking. I surely hope I am wrong. Oh please, let me be wrong. BOYCOTT BP, CALL FOR CLEAN ENERGY NOW. added by: JanforGore
