At one time or another, just about every star in the Teen Mom universe has publicly griped about the demands of the show. Whether it’s the haters, the editing, or the never-ending feuds among co-stars, it seems the six-figure gig isn’t as cushy as many fans seem to believe. Prior to being fired from Teen Mom OG , Farrah Abraham probably did the most complaining.’ She was closely followed by Jenelle Evans, who was later axed from Teen Mom 2. (Though it’s worth noting that Jenelle’s firing had less to do with her complaints and more to do with allowing her husband to murder the family dog .) But none of those cases have prevented Kailyn Lowry from speaking her mind about the unique challenges faced by young moms in the spotlight. To be fair, Kail’s comments are not complaints so much as observations about her complicated relationship with the show. After all, she couldn’t really pursue secondary careers as a podcaster and memoirist if she weren’t willing to be totally honest and candid with her fans. No one wants to buy an autobiography that’s really just a thinly-veiled 300-page advertisement for MTV. In keeping with her long history of being real with fans, Kail spoke her truth in a recent interview with Hollywood Life . Asked about the ongoing issue of the annual reunion show taping, Kail revealed that she took a stand by refusing to bring her children with her to the marathon filming sessions. “I started refusing to bring the kids because of all the drama and I think the other cast members felt the same way or they had the same reservations around the same time,” she told the outlet. Yes, Kail is essentially Teen Mom 2 ‘s de facto labor leader, winning new rights for the other moms and setting an example as to how they should interact with their bosses. “And it was just a huge, as far as the reunion segments go, they were long days,” she added. “We were all in the studio with the kids for like 12 hours. So it just didn’t make sense to have us all there and do it that way. So I started saying, ‘Well, I’m not bringing my kids.’” Of course, Kail says she might be inclined to think of the situation differently now that circumstances have changed (read: Jenelle Evans got fired ). “Well, now that we’ve done it a little bit differently I would like to film a reunion segment with my kids so I don’t know, we’ll see about this year,” she told Hollywood Life . Some fans have suggested that Kail’s decision might be a bit of a bummer for the kids of TM2. After all, the reunions were one of the only times they all got to see one another — and it’s not like the kids at school can relate to their situation. But Kail insists that’s a non-issue as there was very little interaction among the offspring at the tapings. “The kids don’t see each other — they don’t remember each other,” she said. Recently, Southern Charm fans were given the awful news that Kathryn Dennis’s mother passed away . She was only 59 years old. Tributes and comforting words are pouring in from friends, castmates, and fans. Most touching of all is the tender message left by Kathryn’s musician boyfriend, Hunter Price. Last Wednesday, Allison Calhoun Dennis passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer. Allison, and through her Kathryn, was a descendant of the United States’ seventh Vice President, John C. Calhoun. 59 is a profoundly young age at which to die. Kathryn is of course grieving, as is the rest of her family. They have requested privacy as they cope with this terrible loss. On Instagram, Kathryn paid tribute to her late mother with a single word: “Family.” Kathryn’s boyfriend, Country singer Hunter Price, penned a beautiful comment as a tribute to Kathryn’s late mother. “You’re the strongest, and most beautiful woman that I’ve ever been so lucky to love,” Hunter gushed to Kathryn. “Your mom will always be with you no matter what;” he affirmed. Hunter concluded: “just as I know she’s always been.” That is sweet and touching without dragging on — perfectly appropriate for a public message on social media. Hunter was not the only one close to Kathryn who reached out over Instagram. Danni Baird is one of Kathryn’s besties, and she of course commented. “Love you to pieces, Kat,” Danni expressed. “Your mom is so proud of u.” The strikingly beautiful Naomie Olindo also weighed in. “Sending you allllllll the love in the world,” Naomie wrote. “KD I am so so sorry for your loss.” Allison played a major role in Kathryn’s life, even in recent years. Not only was she her mother, but she acted as an additional caregiver for Kathryn’s children, Kensie and Saint. This has proven vital during Kathryn’s heated, bitter custody dispute with her disgraced ex, Thomas Ravenel. In retrospect, it’s a wonderful thing that she was able to do that for Kathryn. It means precious memories for Kensie and Saint. Those important moments are now priceless. Kathryn Dennis is only 28 years old. In fact, she just had her birthday last week — the day before her mother’s heartbreaking passing. That is a distressingly young age at which to lose a parent. Even if Kathryn were not going through a tumultuous time in her life right now, her mother’s passing would be hitting her hard. It is a relief to know that she has so many friends and loved ones to support her as she tries to cope. Based upon the comments from Hunter and others, it sounds like she’s in good hands. At the risk of getting a little personal, here: f–k cancer. Celebrities can seem out-of-touch at times. Certainly, Kathryn’s spending has at times made her seem to occupy a separate existence from the rest of us. But cancer afflicts the mega-famous, reality stars, and ordinary peasants. It destroys families no matter their income. (The only difference is how much medical debt the disease leaves in its wake, and whether someone can afford regular screenings) Kathryn should know that she’s not alone. A quick look through the home’s decor didn’t sit well with Mathis and his wife, Reyna. They felt uneasy after finding a NASCAR-decorated garage sporting two Confederate flags, Confederate placemats in the kitchen, and on top of all that—the home also belonged to a police officer. The over-the-top Confederate decor found Mathis wondering to himself, “Wouldn’t it be funny if this was a Klansman’s house?” he revealed in an interview with MLive . Then, he and his son went into a bedroom and saw a framed KKK application mounted on the wall behind a vanity. “Application for citizenship in the invisible empire: Knights of the Klu Klux Klan” the empty application read. Of course, Mathis told his son that they had to leave immediately. Some Confederate flags and a KKK application are reason enough to high tail it out of that house, but unsurprisingly, this isn’t the only incriminating evidence against the police officer whose house Mathis was viewing. Charles Anderson, a 48-year-old white police officer, fatally shot a black man, 23-year-old Julius Johnson, during a traffic stop in 2009. Anderson was cleared of any wrongdoing in Johnson’s death, per the Washington Post . Rob Mathis ended up going public with the frightening information he found throughout Anderson’s home, posting about it to Facebook and talking to local media outlets about the harrowing experience. The City of Muskegon placed the officer on administrative leave on Thursday, “pending a thorough investigation” of the officer. In light of the findings, Eric Hood, president of the Muskegon County chapter of the NAACP, has called for Anderson’s interactions with people of color to be reviewed.
