John Hostetter Dies; Murphy Brown Actor Was 69

John Hostetter – a character actor best known for his time on the popular long-running sitcom Murphy Brown – has passed away at the age of 69. Hostetter’s family says he had been battling cancer for several years. In 60 episodes of Murphy Brown , Hostetter played John, the levelheaded stage manager of the fictional show-within-a-show, FYI. He racked up dozens of other and television credits over the years, including parts on  NYPD Blue , MacGyver , L.A. Law , ER , Family Ties , and G.I. Joe . His film credits include  Into the Night , Heartbreak Ridge , Beverly Hills Cop II , No Way Out and Leonard Part 6 , opposite Bill Cosby. Hostetter is also well-known to Muppets fans for his role in the cult favorite DVD Kermit’s Swampland . The Brooklyn native, who grew up in Hanover, Maryland, got his start on the stage. Hostetter reportedly wowed audiences in a 1971 production of Waiting For Godot , in which he co-starred with a young Christopher Reeve. But it wasn’t until 1988 that Hostetter rose to national prominence after being cast on Brown – one of the most popular and acclaimed sitcoms of its time. The show won’t be found in many syndicated markets these days, as its topical, political humor made it very much a product of its era. During its ten-season run on CBS, however, the series was regarded as a ground-breaking television achievement. A sitcom that skewered, with equal aplomb, the worlds of Washington and TV news, Brown helped paved the way for politically-charged scripted series, as well as left-leaning late night shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report . It’s difficult to overstate the show’s influence, and while he was never a principal cast member, Hostetter was a favorite amongst fans. While Brown ‘s political commentary helped it win over critics, the purely comedic scenes, of the variety that so often featured Hostetter, were essential to making a commercial hit. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Del Hostetter. Our thoughts go out to the actor’s family during this difficult time.

Kelly Clarkson Looks Back on American Idol: It Was Amazing!

Kelly Clarkson has had a wonderful career that has spanned over fourteen years.  Clarkson won the first season of American Idol back in 2002. It’s crazy to think that she’s still as relevant as today as she was back then.  Her career has continued to flourish, but Idol did not.  The singing competition finally concluded earlier this year after 15 seasons. That’s a great run for any series.  You’d think singing competitions would be a bit long in the tooth by now, but NBC continues to find success with two cycles of The Voice every year.  Granted, there always seems to be some sort of rift with the judges on the show, but it drums up good ratings.  Clarkson has enjoyed a lot of success throughout her career. She’s the first artist from the show to achieve 100 Billboard number 1 hit singles.  Yes, that means the star has topped the chart at least 100 times.  That’s not an easy task for anyone, so she deserves a lot of recognition for that.  That said, Kelly is not about to forget where she came from. She knows American Idol gave her the career she has today.  Joining singing competitions was the best way to get noticed in 2002. There was no Youtube for artists to go viral back in those days.  Kelly took to Twitter to express her gratitude to the once hot Fox series.  Kelly Clarkson Brings Everyone to Tears on American Idol “14 yrs ago 2day @AmericanIdol opened a door w/such amazing opportunities & experiences 4 me!” the 34-year-old singer wrote on Twitter on Sunday, September 4. “I am 4ever grateful & blessed! #heresto14more.” There’s every reason to believe that Clarkson will still be topping the charts in fourteen years. She really does have staying power and it’s not often an artist can continue to top the charts after all this time.  Kelly recently signed a major record deal with Atlantic Records, so at least we know she’ll continue to release great music.  View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Welcomed Babies in 2016 She also welcomed a son in April of this year, but she will be back with new music very soon.  It just goes to show that even though the final few seasons of American Idol were terrible, the show still served a huge purpose.  It gave the likes of Kelly Clarkson a start in an industry that’s very difficult to become a star in.  Clarkson even appeared on the final season of the Fox hit, but apparently Carrie Underwood was not impressed .  Underwood was given a smaller segment than Clarkson.  This peeved Underwood because she knows she is the bigger money maker of the two.  What do you think of all of this? Milo Yiannopoulos on Leslie Jones Nude Pic Hack, Racist Trolling: Doing God’s Work Over Here!

Leslie Jones’ nude photo hacker is not only not sorry for what he did, he’s giving himself mad props for trolling and sabotaging the actress. In fact, he believes he’s doing God’s work! Between Saturday Night Live and Ghostbusters, and her viral stardom on Twitter and Snapchat, Jones was “slaying all day” in 2016. Until the wheels fell off earlier this summer. A notorious Internet troll, Milo Yiannopoulos, went after her hard, then harder, in a brutal Twitter trolling effort that gained global attention. Then, in the aftermath, someone hacked her personal website and published Leslie Jones nude photos to the world – and a lot more. Her passport information and her driver’s license were stolen in the hack, which also followed Milo’s  vicious trolling spree on Twitter . Just a day in the life for Milo Yiannopoulos . “Trolling is very important,” Yiannopoulos told ABC’s Nightline . “I like to think of myself as a virtuous troll, you know? I’m doing God’s work.” When Jones said how upset she was over the bullying she’d endured, Yiannopoulos told the news show that she’s playing the victim. “This idea that celebrities are these fragile wallflowers … that the stars of Hollywood blockbusters are sitting at home crying into their iPhones.”  “Give me a break,” he said.  Yiannopoulos says he has beef with the “body positive” movement , feminism in general and other stars like Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer: “It is insisted upon us that we all pay obeisance to the cult of Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer that they put them on the cover of the magazines.” He has since been banned from Twitter thanks to Jones’ efforts, but he “would like my account back” so he can resume what he does. Good luck with that. Jones, who has gone quiet since the nude photo hack, initially fought back online by exposing some of the hateful tweets she received. “It’s not called a meltdown when [you’re] defining yourself. Pay attention,” she wrote to one prominent Twitter hater before she added: “So sad, these people have mothers and sisters and aunts. So f–king sickening … you won’t believe the evil. It’s f–king scary.” After pointing out some of the cruel comments, Jones scored a win when she was able to get Twitter to permanently suspend accounts. Alas, it was short-lived. View Slideshow: Leslie Jones Nude Photo Leak: Celebs React While no one is defending Milo Yiannopoulos’ actions, his ban from Twitter has triggered debate over whether it violates the 1st Amendment. “People should be able to express diverse opinions and beliefs on Twitter,” a company spokesperson said in announcing the decision. “But no one deserves to be subjected to targeted abuse online, and our rules prohibit inciting or engaging in the targeted abuse or harassment.” What do you think? Does the ban constitute an imposition on the popular (in some circles) web personality’s right to freedom of speech? Or, conversely, did this living, breathing piece of human garbage merely get what he had coming to him and not a moment too soon? Hit the comments to discuss.
