ESPN’s Michael Sam Coverage Creates Controversy, Prompts Backlash From Teammates

Football history was made back in May when Michael Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, making him the first openly gay man selected in an NFL draft. There was immediate backlash from homophobic fans who complained when television coverage showed  Sam kissing his boyfriend after receiving news that he’d been chosen by the Rams. Now, it seems the pendulum has swung in the other direction, as supporters of Sam and LGBT rights are complaining that ESPN is devoting too much time and attention to Sam’s sexual preference. Following a SportsCenter report in which correspondent Josina Anderson stated that Sam is “respecting the space” of his teammates by showering privately, Twitter exploded with criticism, and Rams defensive end Chris Long led the charge: “Dear ESPN,” Long tweeted. “Everyone but you is over it.” ESPN has since defended its coverage in an official statement, claiming, “In response to recent questions about Sam fitting in with the team, multiple Rams brought up the shower topic and we relayed the information as part of our reporting.” Sam has yet to respond to the questionable coverage. He’s scheduled to make his regular season debut on September 7 in a game against the Minnesota Vikings.  29 Celebrities Who Are Out and Proud 1. Kim Kardashian: Makeup-Free on Instagram!

Kim Kardashian may have had some problems with her camera this weekend. But she had no problem showing fans her all natural look. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star posted a (tiny) picture to Instagram yesterday, writing online after spending time at the San Diego Zoo with her daughter: “No make up kinda weekend.” Kardashian has been all about her looks these days. More than a year after giving birth to North West, she keeps complaining about the 15-20 pounds of baby weight she has to lose. Even more annoyingly, she’s now being paid a large sum of money to shill for a ridiculous weight loss corset, actually telling fans to go buy some device called Whats a Waist despite the fact that one SHOULD have a waist. It’s totally normal and Kim is setting a terrible example for women by focusing so much on extreme weight loss. So let’s hope this no makeup photo is the start of Kardashian going in the opposite direction, of her telling fans they ought to be happy with who they are and how they look. Girl Takes Ice Bucket Challenge After Having Wisdom Teeth Pulled, Sort of Succeeds

The Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and money for ALS is spreading so incredibly quickly, it’s going to run out of people sooner rather than later. As with every social media campaign – even ones that raise millions – people move on and attention spans wane as we get saturated with new material. Some things never fail to win over the web, though, such as cats, hot Ryan Gosling photos or drugged-up people after their wisdom teeth get pulled. To wit, one girl who falls into the latter category decided to integrate her impaired state with the Ice Bucket Challenge, and the results were pretty classic: Girl Does Ice Bucket Challenge After Wisdom Teeth Removal Not the most stellar effort we’ve seen in terms of ice water cascading over a human being, but it stands out for its own comedic reasons in any case. Very well played, and before you accuse this youngster of faking her prescription daze, note that there is a nice steam of blood dripping out of her mouth. Guess even all that crazy magic they teach you at Hogwarts School can’t overcome the temporary numbing effects of hard ass pain meds. Oh well.
