Ellen Page: Supported, Admired, Applauded by Hollywood

It’s not everyday that a former Oscar nominee announces herself as a lesbian. So, with Ellen Page coming out as gay in a moving speech Friday at an LGBT event in Las Vegas Friday, a slew of stars have taken to Twitter to applaud the actress’ bravery. He also plays Spock in the new Star Trek franchise. 6. Adam Lambert There was never any real doubt about Adam Lambert’s sexuality. But he made it clear not long after his run on American Idol ended. 7. T.R. Knight He’ll always be George O’Malley to Grey’s Anatomy fans. T.R. Knight was at the center of a gay slur scandal that led to a series cast shake-up. 8. Rosie O’Donnell Rosie O’Donnell is one of our more outspoken celebrities. She has five kids. 9. Sean Hayes Sean Hayes is a beloved sitcom star. He’ll always be revered for his role on Will & Grace. 10. Ellen DeGeneres Ellen DeGeneres is married to Portia de Rossi. She absolutely cracks us up on her talk show. 11. Lance Bass Lance Bass sang his way into our hearts a long time ago. We may still have his poster on our bedroom wall. 12. Portia de Rossi Portia de Rossi is married to Ellen DeGeneres and slays us on Arrested Development. She’s never been shy about her sexuality. 13. Robin Roberts Robin Roberts came out in late 2013. Reporters don’t get more respected than this GMA anchor. 14. Jesse Tyler Ferguson We adore Jesse Tyler Ferguson on Modern Family. The gay actor plays a gay character on the sitcom. 15. Jane Lynch Jane Lynch has been out of the closet for awhile. She cracks us up on Glee. 16. Chris Colfer Chris Colfer is doubly gay! He’s gay in real life and he plays a gay high school graduate on Glee. 17. Cynthia Nixon Cynthia Nixon slept with a lot of men on Sex and the City. But she’s partial to women off screen. 18. Clay Aiken Clay Aiken is another gay American Idol alum. He’s running for Congress in North Carolina. 19. Wanda Sykes Wanda Sykes is a hilarious actress. She has never hidden the fact that she’s gay. 20. Ricky Martin Ricky Martin is the father of twin boys. He’s living La Vida Loca. 21. Melissa Etheridge Melissa Etheridge is a great singer. John Henson Dies; Son of Muppets Creator Was 48

John Henson, a puppeteer and the son of legendary Muppets creator Jim Henson, died today of a sudden heart attack. He was 48 years old. The Jim Henson Company confirmed Henson’s death on its Facebook page Saturday via the following statement: It is with great sadness that we confirm that John Henson, son of Jim and Jane Henson and brother to Lisa, Cheryl, Brian and Heather, died at age 48 of a sudden massive heart attack on Friday, February 14, while at home with his daughter. John served as a shareholder and board member of The Jim Henson Company. He leaves two daughters, Katrina (15) and Sydney (10) and his wife Gyongyi. A private service is being planned. Along with serving as a board member/shareholder in the company responsible for The Muppets, Henson also performed as Sweetums the ogre in movies such as Muppet Treasure Island and The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz. Sid Ceasar Dies; TV Great Was 91

In sad news from the world of television today, Sid Caesar, one of the groundbreaking sketch-comedy artists in the history of the medium, has died at age 91. His friend Larry King revealed Caesar’s passing on Twitter a little while ago. King writes, “Sorry to learn about the passing of Sid Caesar – a dear friend, a comic genius & an American classic – there will never be another one like him.” A New York-born nightclub performer, he helped to usher in the TV revolution with a 90-minute Saturday night variety program, Your Show of Shows . That was 1950 if you can believe that. The live TV broadcast became a hit that lasted four years and later morphed into Caesar’s Hour , from 1954-1957. His writing staff included Woody Allen, Neil Simon, Mel Brooks, and Larry Gelbart, but the real star of the show was Sid himself, and he worked at it. Caesar was prolific but had no interest in small talk. He once said the hardest part of the show was being himself and wishing the audience good evening. Shirley Temple Remembered: On the Good Ship Lollipop…

Movie legend  Shirley Temple died last night at the age 85. The former child actress retired more than six decades prior to her passing, but she’s still remembered for her red hair, her dimples, her signature drink – and for one song in particular. Temple first sang “On the Good Ship Lollipop” in 1934’s Bright Eyes, belting out the track in a scene she reportedly choreographed herself.  The number has been referenced and duplicated many times since (from The Brady Bunch to The Simpsons) and we can think of no better way to salute the late star than to run her original here: Shirley Temple – “On The Good Ship Lollipop” Temple, of course, is merely the latest known name to pass away in 2014.
