Race Matters: Memos Leak From Anti-Same Sex Marriage Group Show Plans To “Fan The Hostility” Between Blacks And Gays!

Really though?!?! National Organization For Marriage Planned To Promote Hostility Between Blacks And Gays Until this week, the Rev. Ralph A. Martino, senior pastor at First Church of Christ (Holiness) USA in Washington, D.C., had never heard of the National Organization for Marriage, the nation’s leading group fighting same-sex marriage. But although the black pastor is also a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, Martino is determined to never work with the organization after a leak of its confidential memos this week revealed its plans to defeat marriage equality campaigns by “fanning the hostility” between blacks and gays. “If this is the type of weaponry a group uses in order to stir up warfare and foster division, then we’re not part of that,” Martino said. “This angle creates unnecessary drama and it will backfire.” The drama has already begun, with a range of civil rights and lesbian, gay and bisexual advocacy groups issuing statements calling the strategies racist and cynical. The memos are also sparking a difficult conversation about real tensions between black and gay rights groups, with members of both saying more dialogue is needed. “The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks — two key Democratic constituencies,” states one of the memos. “Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots,” continued the memo, part of a set of documents that emerged as a result of a Maine lawsuit and then were leaked by the Human Rights Campaign. The memos amount to “a wake-up call,” said Michael Crawford, director of online programs for Freedom to Marry in New York, because they detail how to exploit racial tensions. Plus he noted the National Organization for Marriage seems to believe that he — as a black gay male — does not exist. Take a look at some of the more disturbing parts of the memo “The strategic goal…is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies. Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage; develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots…” Another passage reads: “The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values? We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity — a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation.” “We have learned much about how to win the marriage battle,” one document concludes. “What we need now is to find the resources to prosecute and expand this strategy to win marriage in the U.S., and expand it into a global movement.” Doesn’t the black community already have enough problems without having groups like this actually ORGANIZING to stir up hate? 20-Year-Old Chased To Her Death By Her Cousin’s Knife-Wielding Bronx Hood Booger Ex And Friends Who Mistakenly Thought She Was His New Girl

This is so fawkin’ sad yo… What is wrong with people ??? A knife-wielding attacker chased a young Manhattan woman to her death, and cops late Friday arrested a suspect. The bizarre incident in the Bronx may have been sparked by a case of mistaken identity, the victim’s distraught boyfriend said. The 20-year-old victim, Sienna Edwards, was killed Thursday night trying to jump from one high-rise balcony to another, while trying to deliver birthday gifts to her cousin’s young daughter, a police source said. The medical examiner, after conferring with police, declared the death a homicide and said that Edwards fell 14 stories trying to escape a menacing attack. Kenya Edmonds, 23, mother of the child, was arrested and charged with second degree murder and manslaughter. “When she called me, she said they had a knife to her neck,” said her tearful boyfriend, Timothy Smith, 23. “I called her back 50 times, but I never heard back from her.” Smith’s cousin, Carl Purcell, 22, had asked Edwards to go to the apartment to deliver birthday treats to his 3-year-old daughter. Purcell is barred from the home — where his ex-girlfriend Edmonds lives — by an order of protection, Smith said. But in a tragic twist, those inside mistook Edwards for Purcell’s new girlfriend, Smith said. After the frightening phone call, Smith rushed from the Harlem apartment he had shared with Edwards since the day after they met last March, only to see her body on the ground outside the E. 179th St. building. The birthday girl was inside the apartment when Edwards, carrying a gift and a birthday cake, arrived at 9:30 p.m. The ex-girlfriend, Kenya, the ex’s sister and a female friend were also present. Shortly after her arrival, Edwards called 911 “looking for help,” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Friday. “In the background there are voices that say, ‘You’re not going to leave here alive, you’re not going to leave here alive,’” Kelly said. The dispatcher heard that ominous message up to six times, but nothing from the caller, so they notified police. Officers tried to trace the cell phone call, but weren’t able to locate the apartment. About 10 p.m., someone called 911 and reported that Edwards had committed suicide by jumping over a 5-foot-high balcony. “The investigative premise is she may have been pushed from that balcony or fell trying to escape individuals who were trying to kill her,” a source said Friday afternoon. Several hours later, the medical examiner finished an autopsy and classified Edwards’ death as a homicide. “She was only 20 years old,” a shaken Smith said. “I would accept it if you jumped her, but not to do that. She tried to help people. People liked being around her. “She was an outgoing person.” A completely senseless death!!! She was trying to deliver presents to a child and these triflin’ broads couldn’t let her LIVE? Source More On Bossip! BFWTFs: Random Celebrity Buds You Wouldn’t Imagine Hanging Out Watch Your Mouths! Hate It Or Love It?!?! Drizzy “Stan” Drake Hints At A Posthumous Collaboration With His Celeb Obsession Aaliyah

Ah boy, we knew THIS isht was comin’… Drake Hints At Posthumous Aaliyah Collaboration Drake has never been shy about his love for Aaliyah. The “Take Care” rapper has tattooed the late singer’s face on his back and sampled her song on his debut Thank Me Later. While he never got a chance to work with her while she was alive, he revealed that a posthumous collaboration may be in the works. “I have some great Aaliyah news coming soon. Some special things,” the 25-year-old told Tim Westwood. When asked if it had to do with a rumored posthumous project of her unreleased recordings, he remained coy. “Just some special things, you know. Great things for music, period.” Drizzy shared his admiration for the “Try Again” songstress, who passed away at the age of 22. “I think more than anything Aaliyah always made music that was never uncomfortable for me to listen to,” he explained. “You know it’s hard for me to ride around to a female singer because at the end of the day, you’re a man, but she always kept it so G with the writing and the melodies. It was something to ride to, especially when it was chopped and crewed. That’s when I used to love Aaliyah the most.” Sweet baby Jesus we pray that Aubrey doesn’t butcher some classic Aaliyah song just so he can say “I did a song with Aaliyah”. Race Matters: Niecy Nash Says Black Celebrities Are Not As Desirable As White Celebs… “If Kim Kardashian Was Black, She Wouldn’t Be On TV!”

She may have a point… Niecy Nash’s TLC wedding special raked in nearly 5 million viewers, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the network gave the comedian her own show, “Leave It to Niecy.” Although she is enjoying her new reality TV-found fame, she says she doesn’t have to worry about becoming as famous as the Kardashians …. because she is black: “The truth is black celebrities are not as sought after in the press as white celebrities, and that is comforting,” Niecy says. “As a black celebrity, if we go out to a hot spot, you know there are going to be paparazzi there, but we aren’t the girl who someone is jumping out behind your trash [for] when we get home. So it’s nice to be able to live your dream and not be overwhelmed by what can be a downside of the business.” Niecy also points out that when readers flip through weekly celebrity magazines, they can count on one hand the number of times a black celebrity is pictured. But rather than find this trend disturbing, Niecy is grateful. “There is no reason to talk about it ’cause it’s a peaceful life,” says Niecy. “I’m not saying we should be stalked — I like it. I didn’t get into this business for other people to know my name. As a little girl, my destiny was stamped onto the canvas of my imagination at 5 years old. I was watching soaps with my grandmother. … The most gorgeous black women I had ever seen in my life came out, and I knew that that is what I wanted to do — be fabulous and black and on TV.” So if Britney Spears or Kim Kardashian were black, would they have a very different relationship with the press? “Yes,” Niecy replied. Do you think Niecy has a good point of view on this topic or is she trying to downplay the fact that paps aren’t chasing her around Hollyweird? Source More On Bossip! ‘Kids Are Going to Come See This Film’: A Chat With Bully Director Lee Hirsch

How do you come to the rescue of the millions of children who need someone — anyone — to do what they can’t: get their bullies off their backs? Director Lee Hirsch has sounded a call to action with his new documentary Bully , which exposes bullying from the front lines. Opening today, the film follows several kids and families struggling to stop the taunting and violence. Hirsch captures the frustration and helplessness among not only the victims but also their parents, who have lost trust in our modern school system. There’s Alex, 12, who seems convinced his bullies are his friends; Ja’Meya, 14, locked up after brandishing a gun on the bus where she faced her tormenters; and Kelby, 16, whose whole family retreated into isolation after she came out as a lesbian. Also profiled are the families of a teenager, Tyler, and an 11-year-old, Ty, whose bullying-related suicides devastated their communities and served as a wake-up call. If the film is taken to heart, it should be among the catalysts for changing the “kids will be kids” mentality among some educators and other authority figures. On a micro level, parents who participated in the film are speaking out in their communities and persuading kids to protect one another. Hirsch is working on getting his movie into schools, where it can have more influence. After a whiplash-inducing saga over its MPAA rating, initially an R for strong language, Bully will be released unrated in New York and Los Angeles before expanding to other cities on April 13. Hirsch spoke to Movieline about the movement that has grown out of his project, the newly famous Bully kids, and whether minors will go to the theater to see the film. When were you made aware of the rampant bullying going on in schools these days, and what led to your decision to make a documentary about it? The drive to make the documentary film is that I was bullied as a kid, so it’s very much a piece of my narrative. You know it’s bad, and I had talked about it over the years with people and sort of sensed that it’s a problem greater than my own. I didn’t really understand until we saw the extent to which people were affected by this, to the millionth. It’s funny you ask that because I feel like I dish out these statistics as if I’ve know them forever, but actually there was a process of discovering how big this really was. Then you start doing the math and thinking, if 13 million kids get bullied a year, and you start adding that up from generation to generation, there’s a lot of folks that have this narrative, that have a story, when it comes to bullying. So all those things came together when we started getting into it. Now it’s been three years that I’ve been working on this. It’s interesting you asked me that, I hadn’t thought about that. Did you have any problem getting kids or parents to participate in the film? No, not at all. We shot so many more stories than we were able to include in the final version of the film. We had people reaching out to us. We reached out to a lot of families. It was so different, because we filmed kids like Kelby, where they were outwardly looking for somebody to hear their story and share their outrage, and then Alex, who we very much stumbled upon while being allowed to film inside this school and see how adults and folks were handling certain situations. I wasn’t surprised by the willingness of people, because I remember that feeling of wishing someone would listen to me. I thought it was really brave of Ty’s friend to admit that he’d been a bully at one time. I wondered if you considered putting more kids in the film who shared that side of the story. I had. I think ultimately the narrative of this film is it tells the story of families that are on the victim side, and so you just settle into a world where you’re seeing what they see, as they see it and they deal with it. Ultimately it became less about, “what are the arguments on this side and that side, and what’s this position and that position,” or a full, drawn-out exploration of the psychology of bullying, but rather it became about telling five stories. We didn’t even know how many stories we were going to tell as we shot it. We were just looking to tell stories that allowed you to walk in the shoes of the kids and families who were dealing with this. Now that the Weinstein Company is releasing the film unrated, how do you imagine kids seeing the movie? Do you think they’ll be going to the theater or seeing it in school? We still have school districts reaching out to us every day. We’re in discussions for how to facilitate that. We have a goal of a million kids seeing the film. On their own and with groups. Within their schools and with organizations. Engaging on our website, bullyproject.com , and participating in the movement. We want to have real engagement. That’s the goal now. I think we want to be able to support viewers after they see the film with how they can be involved, how to make a difference. How to do anything from stand up and how to make that meaningful and supportive, to how parents navigate the school system when they’re advocating on behalf of their kids. I think that’s a long-winded answer to say that yes, I really do think that kids are going to come see this film. I think we owe a lot of that to Katy Butler for inspiring hundreds of thousands of teens to sign this petition , and it’s also thanks to so many of the celebrities who have spoken out for the film. It’s exciting. You’re talking to me the day before it opens. I can’t wait to see what happens. Have you seen any positive changes in schools since you started the project? In Alex’s school? In any school, or in any aspect of it, actually. Have you seen anything positive happen as a result of just making the film and building the website? I feel like, how do you measure half a million signatures and people sharing their stories? I think that’s impact. How do you measure the thousands of people that have written on our wall? People are supporting each other and writing to each other and building a community that feels like it’s turning into a movement. I feel that the film has already had impact in ways that I couldn’t have dreamed. I think that already the conversations are rich and deep that people are having about bullying at their schools, about what the climate and culture are like in their community. I think that those conversations are happening, and that’s change, that’s transformation. It’s very exciting. Do you have any plans to do follow-ups with the kids from your film? I don’t have time to do a follow-up film of any kind, but I am in touch with all of the families on a regular basis. Certainly Alex and his family, in particular, and we see them all the time, with Kelby and her family. They come to screenings. They’re doing press. Alex went and argued before the MPAA with Harvey Weinstein. These families are like my second family now. They mean the world to me, and it’s been awesome to get to spend a year with them. Other people are putting cameras in front of them, but it’s not me. I wonder if years down the road we’ll hear from them. I think there would always be an interest in hearing how they’re doing. The families are going to have to make a decision about whether they want this press to continue. For them, boy, this was unexpected, right? I had a sense that maybe we would do some press. It’s been extraordinary for me. I couldn’t have seen this, but for them, it’s been a confusing and extraordinary ride. We just give them as much support as we humanly can. I’ll always be in their lives, and I feel that in my film work I always develop strong bonds with the people that end up in my films, my subjects. It always matters that they see the film and that they’re part of the process and that that relationship stays strong. That comes through in the film. I’m so proud of them — in particular, because I see them so often, Kelby and Alex — because they’ve become advocates. People are writing me and saying, “Can you please send this to Alex? He’s my hero.” It’s incredible. It’s harder for the families that have lost kids. That’s … I … I think about them a lot because they have suffered such an ultimate loss. And they’ve embarked on a new path of advocating for kids and inspiring kids. They’ve been incredible advocates. I’ve seen that a lot with families of kids who have committed suicide that’s been linked to bullying. Can you imagine that sense of injustice that they feel? No. No, you can’t. I can’t either. They’re so engaged, and they’re such powerful advocates. I see many of these families doing such powerful work out in the world. Bully opens today in New York and Los Angeles, with additional cities to come on April 13. Read Stephanie Zacharek’s review here . [Photo: Getty Images]

Kids’ Choice Awards 2012: 5 Things We’re Dying To See

Katy Perry and One Direction’s performances, Will Smith’s hosting skills and more have us pumped for Saturday night. By Kara Warner Katy Perry Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images This year’s Kids’ Choice Awards are going to be as action-packed as ever, with Will Smith as host, two killer performers lined up and a slew of celebrities expected to be in attendance. Here are the five things we’re looking forward to during the live show at 8 p.m. Saturday: Katy Perry’s Performance Perry is not only one of this year’s top nominees , but the “Teenage Dream” singer will also take the stage at USC’s Galen Center to present and perform. So what song will she sing? What will she wear? Will her hair still be blue? One of Perry’s biggest hits, “Firework,” is up for Favorite Song. She is also nominated for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie for her role in “The Smurfs.” A Host With Big Willie Style Nickelodeon hit the jackpot of high-profile celeb hosts in landing Will Smith for their master of ceremonies this year. Although he’s one of the biggest stars around, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen the former Fresh Prince. We’ve seen a lot of his son Jaden and daughter Willow, who are becoming big stars in their own right, but we are psyched to see what Smith has planned as host. Will he be joined onstage by his kids? Will he incorporate a few of his famous friends into the act, like Tom Cruise? Will we get a sneak peek at new footage from the upcoming “Men in Black III”? We’ll have to wait and see. One Direction Break Hearts Stateside The cute and charming lads of “it” boy band One Direction will no doubt bring the house down with whatever they perform on the show. A word of advice to the lucky folks attending the show: Think about bringing earplugs to protect yourself from the enthusiastic, high-pitched screams that will take over the Galen Center the instant the British pop group takes the stage. And they’re not taking the opportunity lightly. “Kids’ Choice is the biggest night on Nickelodeon,” Niall Horan told MTV News about the magnitude of their appearance on the show. “All the big stars are going to be there, and when we found out it was just us and Katy Perry performing, we were like, ‘Geez, this is a big deal.’ ” An Appearance By a First Lady Talk about upping the style and class factor! The fact that the very well-respected FLOTUS will be on hand to present Taylor Swift with an award is a really big deal. Michele Obama will honor Swift with the Big Help Award, in recognition of her philanthropic efforts, including work with U.S. tornado and flood survivors. Obama herself was the recipient of the award in 2010, in recognition of her Let’s Move! Campaign, which champions healthier lifestyles for kids. And, as if that weren’t enough to establish her Nick cred, earlier this year, Obama also appeared on a special episode of “iCarly” to promote her Joining Forces initiative to support military families. Who Will Get Slimed? On to the most intriguing and entertaining part of the annual awards show: Who will get slimed? Despite the sticky, icky and total-mess factor that is involved with being covered from head to toe in the network’s trademark green slime, it is considered an honor to get hit with the goo, which is said to be a mixture of green Jell-O, shampoo, oatmeal and flour. The illustrious list of previously slimed celebs includes: Katy Perry , Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Justin Timberlake, the Jonas Brothers, Jackson Rathbone and Russell Brand. So who’s going down this year? Traditionally, the host is a prime target toward the end of the show, so we can probably count on seeing Smith covered in green, but who else? Maybe Perry or one of the presenters — Chris Rock, Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Zac Efron, Victoria Justice, Big Time Rush or Cee Lo Green. Don’t miss the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. Related Artists Katy Perry One Direction
