This shortened NBA season looks like it may just be exciting after all… After using the amnesty clause on Chauncey Billups, the Knicks have been hunting a new starting point guard. Mike Bibby recently signed, but that’s not exactly the answer. Baron Davis was amnestied by the Cavs and cleared waivers, opening up the opportunity for him to sign anywhere. And that anywhere has turned out to be the Knicks, according to ESPN.com and confirmed by Ken Berger of CBSSports.com With the Knicks being well over the cap, the deal had to be for the veteran minimum or the “mini mid-level” the Knicks have. According to SI.com, it is indeed for the $2.5 mini mid-level. Which is why this makes a lot of sense for New York. It’s a low risk, potentially high value signing. Davis still has a lot of game left, it just comes down to motivation and health. And with him being in New York playing on a solid Knicks team, you have to think he’s going to be ready. He’s dealing with a back injury though, and could be out up to 8-10 weeks. However, after being amnetied by the Cavs, that timetable miraculously dropped to 4-6. Other teams reportedly going after Davis were the Heat and Lakers, so the Knicks landing their target to likely start once he’s healthy is a big move. Not to say Davis is going to be a star or anything, but considering the options right now for New York, Davis is about as good as they could do in their situation. Bibby is a nice veteran backup, Toney Douglas isn’t a point guard and Iman Shumpert is mostly an unknown. Davis could at least step in and handle the offense. Knicks fans, hate it or love it?!?! Oh, this American justice system… A federal judge Friday sentenced baseball slugger Barry Bonds to probation, 30 days’ confinement in his Beverly Hills home and community service, but put the sentence on hold pending Bonds’ appeal of his felony obstruction of justice conviction. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, who presided over Bonds’ perjury trial, said “the jury got it exactly right” when it convicted Bonds in April for evasive testimony to a federal grand jury investigating doping in professional sports. “Mr. Bonds made an effort to obstruct justice here,” Illston said, but “he didn’t manage to succeed.” She added that the government investigation changed the sports world by launching new testing programs and transforming public attitudes. Prosecutors urged Illston to “send a message” by sending the former San Francisco Giants star to prison. In addition to home confinement, Bonds, 47, was sentenced to two years’ probation, ordered to perform 250 hours community service in youth-related activities and pay a $4,000 fine. Assistant U.S. Atty. Matthew A. Parrella called the sentence “a slap on the wrist” and derided the fine as “almost laughable. “ For a man with a mansion, Parrella told the court, home detention was “simply no deterrence.” Illston followed the recommendations of a federal probation officer who reviewed the case. Wait. We thought they had their whole political situation situated? But apparently, the people of Egypt are no more able to express their disapproval of the government then they were before kicking out that shady Mubarak character. Egypt’s military sought to isolate pro-democracy activists protesting against their rule, depicting them as conspirators and vandals, as troops and protesters clashed for a third straight day, pelting each other with stones near parliament in the heart of the capital. At least 10 protesters have been killed and 441 others wounded in the three days of violence, according to the Health Ministry. Activists say most of the 10 fatalities died of gunshot wounds. The fighting, sparked when troops sought to break up a sit-in outside the Cabinet headquarters, has seen a particularly heavy hand by the military. Military police have been shown in video footage dragging women by the hair, even stripping the shirt off one veiled woman, and ferociously beating, kicking and stomping on protesters cowering on the ground. Still, the protesters’ numbers have remained smaller than earlier rallies — suggesting even anger over the disturbing images was not drawing the broader Egyptian public into a confrontation with the military, which activists behind the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak’s autocratic regime 10 months ago accuse of mismanaging the transition period and committing human rights abuses. In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the ruling military council on Sunday called the clashes part of a “conspiracy” against Egypt. It said its forces had the right to defend the “property of the great people of Egypt.” Seeking to depict the protesters as hooligans — and apparently to counter the widely published images of protesters being beaten — it also posted on the page footage of young men throwing rocks at a basement window of the parliament building and of at least one man trying to set the place ablaze. The ruling generals have taken advantage of the growing frustration of many Egyptians over worsening economic hardships and tenuous security, blaming demonstrations, strikes and sit-ins for their predicament. The tactic, coupled with the military’s efforts to stain the reputation of the youth groups behind Mubarak’s ouster, appears to have worked. The military has been using the state media and loyal private TV stations to project an image of itself as the protector of the nation and filling its public statements with patriotism and grave warnings of a dire future if political turmoil persisted. Protest leaders increasingly complain that they feel isolated in a society that has grown more concerned with making ends meet than political rights. Justin comes to DC about once a year, so when my friends and I heard he was gonna be here to film the Christmas In Washington Special , we knew we HAD to try and meet him! Two of my friends and I knew which hotel he was staying at, so on December 9th we thought he was landing but he was still in Mexico with Selena, but my friend and I decided to go the hotel anyways. We were just in the lobby trying to blend in when my friend turns bright red and says, “OMG ISN’T THAT ALFREDO?!” I turned the corner to look and it was Alfredo! He was by himself checking into the hotel. When he was walking by us I asked him for a picture and he says yeah, he was so sweet! We told him about the buyout my friends and I were having that weekend and he said he’ll try and make it! The next day, we came back to DC because we knew Justin flew in the night before. My friends and I were waiting outside in the FREEZING cold for about 3-4 hours until we saw all the other celebrities like Victoria Justice, Conan O Brian, The Band Perry, and Jennifer Hudson leave the hotel to go to the Christmas In Washington rehearsal. After they all left, we knew Justin had to be next come out. Then all of a sudden my friend realizes Justin just drove right by us, he didn’t go through the garage he went through the front. We were all heart broken. We decided to go to a restaurant next to the hotel to eat and get warmed up. At about 3pm we found out that Justin was at the Children’s Hospital visiting kids, so all 10 of my friends and I hopped into a cab and went to the hospital. We decided to wait by the exit and about 3:45 we see this black Escalade pulling out and I saw Alfredo’s head in one of the seats and we immediately knew it was Justin! We run after the car and luckily it was a red light so it had to stop! I was right in front of Alfredo’s window so I was motioning for him to roll the window down AND HE DID! Out of nowhere Justin creepily pops out from the back and starts smiling! We were all talking at once and he was trying to calm us down so he could talk to us and he managed to ask a few questions! I reached my hand into the car to Justin and we were holding hands for a good 10 seconds. Then all of a sudden Justin’s like “The light is green I have to go!” Then the car speeds off. We were all freaking out and decided to go back to his hotel. At around 5pm we heard that Justin was at American Apparel, luckily that was like a block away from his hotel so we just sprint up there. There was a huge crowd of people near Justin’s car but my friends and I managed to get in the front right in front of his car window again! Justin rolled down his window and I reached out and gave him a note from one of my friends and told him to read it and he smiled! Then Kenny comes out of the store with all of their bags and put it in the trunk and hi 5’s me before he walked in the car. So the car pulls off and its a legit five second drive back to his hotel so my friends and I ran through traffic and almost got hit by like a million cars but we managed to get to the hotel to signal all of my friends he was coming! Justin’s car pulls into the garage and the gate closed. Selena jumped out of the car and walked into the hotel but Justin came towards us! White Kenny (That’s Justin’s white bodyguard idk his real name lol) wanted Justin to go into the hotel but Kenny was like “No let him be with the fans” . Justin walked over to my friend and took a picture with her and then when it was my turn, I realized I didnt have a camera so I grabbed my friends iPhone and gave it to Justin! We took a picture but then I realized it didn’t show up, I thought Justin was gonna walk away but he noticed too. I was like I have no idea how to work an iPhone and he fixed it and retook our picture! After everything we went through that day I couldn’t believe we finally met him! The next day was the DC Buyout and Scooter showed up! He was really sweet and thanked everyone for helping out and took pictures with all of us! My name’s Trish and November 23rd was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE. My friends and I were trying so hard to get VIP passes to see Justin at the Today Show and of course we had no luck. We were so unsure if it was even worth going down there. We were devastated until we found out about THE VIEW! We had a half day of school so we decided to skip school and go down to the city at 8 am. When we first got to The View, they were done handing out passes to get in. So we decided to wait outside! We waited near the exit where all the celebrities leave. We made so many friends while waiting, it was great!. While waiting we were looking at Twitter and saw that Scrappy tweeted about how there wasn’t enough beliebers inside The View! EVERYONE in the crowd outside told him that he should come out side! About 20 minutes later Justin came out. I WAS DYING. I’ve never been so close to Justin in my life! Girls pushed down the brocades to get in front of the gate. My friends and I stayed near one of the gates. We kept screaming Justin’s name and then Kenny pointed to us telling us that Justin would come over to us next! He came over right in front of me. He touched my hand and looked me in the eyes and was like, “How are you”. I always had like a conversation planned out on what I would say to Justin when I first met him. That plan failed, the first thing I said was I LOVE YOU . After Justin left I was in SHOCK. I called all of my friends hysterically crying. We then walked to Rockefeller Center. My uncle was one of the workers there so we were hoping we would be able to somehow get close to see Justin perform! We waited downstairs and met so many people. We met all the dancers, Scooter, and Dan Kanter. While we were talking to the dancers, guess who walked right passed us? USHER! My uncle was able to get us VIP PASSES to go on the ice to watch Justin perform with Busta and Usher. This day was the best day EVER. An Illinois mother shot and killed her 10-month-old baby daughter at point blank range while a horrified neighbor looked on. She then turned the gun on herself in a chilling murder-suicide that left five people dead. According To RadarOnline reports : Sara McMeen, 30, was found dead at her home in the small farming town of Emington on Friday afternoon. Livingston County Coroner Michael Burke said that the woman’s two older children; Skyler Lemke, 8, Ian Lemke, 7, and her live-in boyfriend, Daniel Warren, 29, had been murdered as well. Warren was the father of McMeen’s infant daughter Maggie. Sheriff Martin Meredith revealed that a semi-automatic pistol was recovered at the scene and called the situation “very gut-wrenching.” A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told the Pontiac Daily Reader that she heard around five gunshots around 2.30pm and ran outside to see what was going on. “I saw my neighbor in the back yard and she was wrapping her baby daughter in a blanket on the ground,” the woman recalled. “At first I thought maybe she had been startled and dropped her daughter. I asked her if everything was OK. She said, ‘No, everything is not OK.’ “She was standing over the baby and she bent at the waist and shot point-blank. I instinctively ran. I just couldn’t believe it.” Neighbors revealed that the young family had only moved into the area a few months ago and that while the children were delightful, they heard arguments sometimes between the two adults.
