Reese Witherspoon’s Love Life: From Ryan Phillippe To Jim Toth

As the actress announces her engagement, we review her dating history. By Jocelyn Vena Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon in October 2006 Photo: Evan Agostini/ Getty Images Reese Witherspoon joined an ever-growing list of engaged celebrities Tuesday when she announced that she and boyfriend Jim Toth plan to tie the knot . Over the course of her public life, Witherspoon has been married once before (to Ryan Phillippe) and even dated Jake Gyllenhaal for quite a bit of time. With congratulatory wishes to Witherspoon and Toth, we take a look back at Witherspoon’s dating history. ( Check out photos of Reese with her past loves. ) Before meeting and marrying Phillippe, Witherspoon had been romantically linked to Jason London, Stephen Dorff, Chris O’Donnell and Mark Wahlberg, but it was Phillippe who Witherspoon settled on for about a decade. As the story goes, Phillippe arrived to Witherspoon’s 21st birthday party in 1997, where love bloomed. The “Cruel Intentions” co-stars got engaged in December 1998 and married in June 1999. The pair quickly started a family with the arrival of their daughter, Ava, in September of that year. Four years later, they welcomed their son, Deacon, in October 2003. Before they split in 2006, Witherspoon opened up about married life, noting that it wasn’t always easy. Revealing that she and Phillippe went to couple’s therapy, she said, “We’ve done that in the past, and it’s always struck me as odd that people grabbed onto that story and made it sound so negative. In what capacity is working on yourself or your marriage a bad thing? What marriage isn’t a journey? If you don’t have money to go to therapy, there’s always church. You can get together with groups and friends and talk about things with other couples.” After divorcing Phillippe in 2007, Witherspoon was spotted with her “Rendition” co-star Jake Gyllenhaal. The two tried to keep their relationship quiet, but after being photographed together multiple times, it was Phillippe who let the cat out of the bag. “It’s bizarre,” he told USA Today in March 2008 of seeing photos of the couple. Witherspoon herself eventually confirmed the relationship to Vogue in October of that year, calling Gyllenhaal “very supportive.” “Suffice it to say, I’m very happy in life, and I’m very lucky to have a lot of really supportive people around me who care very much for me, and, you know, that’s all you can hope for in life,” she said. “I am very blessed in that way.” But the couple was broken up by November 2009. After several months alone, Witherspoon began dating talent agent Jim Toth in February 2010. The pair’s announcement of their engagement Tuesday comes after nearly a year of dating. Witherspoon opened up to Glamour about being in a relationship with someone who’s not a celebrity, saying, “I have a little perspective on this. I wouldn’t say it’s easier. Every relationship has its own dynamic. And I don’t want to disparage any of the other relationships that I’ve had that were meaningful and wonderful. But what I’m finding out is that it’s very comfortable to be with somebody who understands my career, but doesn’t do what I do. He’s a great guy. He’s wonderful.” Send your well-wishes to Witherspoon and Toth in the comments section below! Related Photos Reese Witherspoon’s Dating History

Elton John Joins List Of Gay Celebrity Fathers

Ricky Martin and Neil Patrick Harris are just a few gay stars who have started families. By James Dinh Elton John Photo: Neil Mockford/FilmMagic Christmas Day was more than just a festive holiday for Elton John, as he and his husband, David Furnish, welcomed their first child , Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. The monumental occasion puts the iconic singer into a league of fellow gay celebrities who have ventured into the world of parenthood. Take a look at these other gay stars-turned-fathers: Ricky Martin Martin didn’t officially come out until earlier this year, but the Latin pop star started a family a few years ago. In August 2008, the singer became a proud father of twin boys, Matteo and Valentino Martin, who were born via a surrogate. In an interview with People, the former Menudo ,member revealed that fatherhood “has been the most spiritual moment in my life.” Neil Patrick Harris With just a 140-character Twitter message, the “How I Met Your Mother” star announced to the world that he and longtime partner David Burtka were expecting twins . Just a few months later, the Emmy-winning actor took to the social-networking site again to reveal the arrival of Gideon Scott and Harper Grace with the help of a surrogate. Prior to the twin’s birth, Harris researched his role as a future father, admitting to People, “I’m trying to read as much as I can, and prep as much as I can. But there’s only so much you can do because each baby is super individual and totally their own person.” Clay Aiken While his sexuality had always been speculated about, Clay didn’t come out until the arrival of his son , Parker Foster Aiken, in 2008. Earlier that year, it had been reported that the former “American Idol” contestant had artificially inseminated friend and music producer Jaymes Foster. In a statement on his website, Aiken gushed about his newborn, saying, “The little man is healthy, happy, and as loud as his daddy. Mama Jaymes is doing quite well also.” B.D. Wong “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” actor B.D. Wong and his longtime partner Richie Jackson suffered a setback in their road to fatherhood when the couple lost one of their newborn twins 90 minutes after birth. The twin boys were born 11 weeks premature through a surrogate mother with Wong’s sperm and an egg donated by Jackson’s sister. One of the boys, Jackson Foo Wong, survived and inspired the actor to write a memoir called “Following Foo.” Related Photos Famous Gay Dads Related Artists Elton John

Is Justin Bieber Jewish?

Is Justin Bieber Jewish? Is Natalie Portman’s fiancee, Benjamin Millipied, Jewish? Based on my Web research, neither one is Jewish. However, there are many people wondering these questions and doing what curious people do in the Digital Age — turning to Google. There are two components to blogging I enjoy most. First, I love writing. Second, I love looking at the analytics to see through which portals visitors have arrived at my blog. Looking at the referral statistics, there is an overwhelming number of Web surfers who are referred to my blog after inquiring about a celebrity’s faith; specifically, whether they are Jewish. While Jewish people may only account for less than 2 percent of the U.S. population, we have provided society with a vastly disproportionate number of celebrities — from actors and musicians to authors, producers and directors. No, Jews don’t own Hollywood in the antisemitic canard conspiracy theory way, but there are certainly a lot of “Members of the Tribe” in Hollywood. When celebrities do the things that only Jewish people have traditionally done, everyone wants to know if they are Jewish or just playing the part. For instance, Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) has been embraced by Madonna, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, and Brittany Spears, but none of them were born Jewish or have converted to the faith. Robin Williams does a great Yiddish accent on stage while telling Jewish jokes, but he’s an Episcopalian. The former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson has announced plans to open a kosher restaurant, but converted to Islam. The French dance choreographer Benjamin Millipied will marry the Israeli Natalie Portman, with Israeli roots, but he doesn’t appear to be of the Jewish faith. And though the teen pop sensation Justin Bieber is not Jewish, he has a ritual of saying the most important statement to the Jewish people before each of his concerts. It turns out that his agent, Scott “Scooter” Braun, taught Bieber the “Shema Yisrael” and now the 16-year-old says those Hebrew words (in addition to a Christian prayer) before taking the stage. It’s human nature to try and know as much as we can about our celebrities. So, it should come as no surprise that fans are curious as to whether Bieber’s Jewish or if Natalie Portman is marrying within the Jewish faith. After all, a person’s faith can be a private matter and as the National Enquirer has always said when it comes to celebrities, “Inquiring minds want to know.” (c) Rabbi Jason A.
