Erin Moran: Husband Reveals Cause of Death, Mourns Actress in Moving Letter

Earlier this week, Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi actress Erin Moran passed away at the age of 56. Little was known about Moran’s cause of death in the days after the news of her passing went public, but that didn’t prevent one of her former co-stars from speculating. Scott Baio, who played the other title character in Joanie Loves Chachi, stated that he was “not surprised” by Moran’s death . Even worse, he incorrectly attributed her premature demise to her history of drug and alcohol abuse. “I feel bad because her whole life, she was troubled, could never find what made her happy and content,” Baio said in an interview on Monday. “For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.” After it was revealed that Moran likely died of cancer and not of an overdose, the criticism of Baio grew louder, with many demanding the actor apologize. Instead, Baio defended his comments in a bizarrely Trump-ian Twitter tirade. The 56-year-old tweeted: “This is so wrong.” “Now I know what fake news is! I said ‘IF’ (You abuse drugs/alcohol). My wife @MrsScottBaio spoke to Erin less than 1 month ago.” Now it seems that Baio has finally come to an important realization (better late than never) in the aftermath of this controversy: He should be trying to make amends to Moran’s family, not flailing about in an effort to salvage what’s left of his career. Moments ago, Baio posted a lengthy open letter penned by Moran’s husband, Steve Fleischmann, which confirms what law enforcement officials revealed yesterday: Moran was battling stage four cancer at the time of her death. Fleischmann revealed that the cancer acted fast, having only been discovered in November: “Erin woke up and had about a dime size blood stain on her pillowcase,” he wrote. “She said I think i bit my tongue. A couple days go by and there’s a bigger spot of blood.” “We get like 4 days into December, there’s more blood. I get a flashlight and say let me look. It was not her tongue it was her tonsil on the left side.” “I thought it was tonsillitis.” He added: “So we went to an ENT who said they wanted to biopsy it. It came back squamous cell carcinoma. She started radiation and chemo.” “Five days a week radiation and chemo only on Thursdays,” he recalls. “We did that the whole time. It got so bad so fast.” Fleischmann went on to offer a heartbreaking account of his wife’s final moments: “I laid down next to her held her right hand in my left.” “I feel asleep woke up about a hour later still holding her hand and she was gone, she was just gone. Norton Cancer Institute never said how bad it was.” “The coroner told me it was really really bad. It had spread to her spleen, she had a lot of fluid in her lungs and part of her brain was infected.” He added that by the time the cancer was discovered, it was already too late to have a realistic chance of saving Erin. “The coroner said even if she was in the hospital being pumped full of antibiotics she still would not of made it,” he recalls.  “He said it was the best that she was with me and went in her sleep,” Fleischmann concluded with a plea for sensitivity from fans and the media: “PLEASE feel free to send the above to Any and ALL news outlets The press has been relentless,” he wrote. “They knock on the door constantly.” Our thoughts go out to Fleischmann and the rest of Moran’s family at this difficult time. Scott Baio on Erin Moran Death: I’m Not Surprised!

Yesterday, the world learned that Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi star Erin Moran had passed away at the age of 56. While there’s been a good deal of speculation surrounding Moran’s cause of death , authorities investigating the matter have yet to reach any definitive conclusions. But that didn’t stop Chachi himself, Scott Baio, from publicly declaring that he has a pretty good idea of what killed his former co-star. Baio appeared on the Bernie & Sid radio show this morning and was asked how he’s holding up in the wake of Moran’s death. “I’m OK, a little shocked but not completely shocked that this happened,” Baio responded. “My thing is, I feel bad because her whole life, she was troubled, could never find what made her happy and content. For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.” Yikes. We don’t want to be around when Scott finds out that he’s gonna die even if he doesn’t drink or do drugs. Baio want on to sort of dial back his statement, but wound up sounding confused by his own words. “I’m sorry if that’s cold, but God gave you a brain, gave you the will to live and thrive and you gotta take care of yourself,” he added. “I’m saddened by what happened. I don’t know if it was drugs that killed her, I read one report said it might have been and I hope it … I don’t know what I hope. It’s what it is. What can you do?” Moran was troubled by substance abuse issues throughout her life, but the results of post-mortem toxicology tests are still pending. Shortly after Baio’s interview, sheriffs in Harrison County, Indiana released a statement indicating that Moran probably did not overdose and likely died as a result of complications from cancer: “A joint investigation into Mrs. Moran’s death was conducted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Harrison Country Coroner’s office,” reads the statement. “A subsequent autopsy revealed that Mrs. Moran likely succumbed to complications of stage 4 cancer.” The report adds: “Standard toxicology tests were performed and the results are pending however no illegal narcotics were found at the residence.” So while the possibility that Moran overdosed has not been ruled out, it’s far from a certainty – as Scott Baio would have you believe. This has been your daily reminder that Scott Baio is a douche. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam

Erin Moran Cause of Death: Secret Illness Revealed?

Yesterday, we learned the sad news that Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi star Erin Moran had passed away at the age of 56. Speculation about the cause of Erin Moran’s death has been rampant, but early on, there was not much in the way of definitive news. That may have just changed. The actress was fed through a gastrointestinal tube, or GI tube, at home with her mother-in-law, according to the coroner’s office.  Moran had been receiving treatment for Stage 4 cancer, with the tube in her throat to keep her alive during her tragic final days. The source of this detail asked to remain anonymous pending further details to be released by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept. However, they said the coroner found a GI tube during the examination, as well as “ample” evidence that Moran succumbed to Stage 4 cancer . The specific type of cancer was not immediately clear. “It was indicative when they did the autopsy that she was receiving medical care,” the source tells People, which reported the story. A GI tube is usually inserted into the stomach by a physician to provide vital nutrients to patients who cannot feed themselves. It can also be used to reverse the process, removing fluids from a person’s body when a patient is unable to perform the task. The Sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing: “Standard toxicology tests were performed and results are pending, however no illegal narcotics were found at the residence.” “There were no illicit substances or anything to suggest foul play,” however, officials conducting the investigation reiterated. If true, this would contradict earlier reports and speculation that Moran, who battled addiction for years, died of an overdose. One of those who fueled that theory was her Joanie Loves Chachi co-star himself, Scott Baio, who spoke out in the wake of her death. Baio appeared on the Bernie & Sid radio show today and wound up weighing in on the subject in a manner he may later regret. Asked how he’s holding up, Scott says he’s not surprised she died : “I’m OK, a little shocked but not completely shocked that this happened.” “My thing is … I feel bad because her whole life, she was troubled, she could never find what made her happy and content.” “For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die.” Baio then tried to walk back that comment somewhat, saying, “I’m sorry if that’s cold, but God gave you a brain, gave you the will to live and thrive.” “You gotta take care of yourself,” he added. “I’m saddened by what happened. I don’t know if it was drugs that killed her, I read one report said it might have been and I hope …” “I don’t know what I hope. It’s what it is.” Moran was troubled by substance abuse issues throughout her life, that much is not in doubt; Baio may have jumped the gun, though. Erin was pronounced dead Saturday at the trailer Moran shared in rural New Salisbury, Indiana, with her husband’s mother. “To my knowledge, they had their own room,” the source said. Both Moran’s husband, Steven Fleischmann, and his mother, Donna Woods, have remained out of the public eye since her passing. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam

Erin Moran Dies; Former Happy Days Star Was 56

Erin Moran, the actress best known for having portrayed Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days, was found dead on Saturday from causes unknown. She was 56 years old. According to TMZ sources, authorities in Indiana received a call just after 4 p.m. this afternoon from someone reporting he or she had come across an “unresponsive female.”   When emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene, they found Moran ‘s corpse. Moran sky-rocketed to fame in the early 1970s when she was cast as the younger sister of Ron Howard’s beloved character on Happy Days. In 1982, she went on to star opposite Scott Baio on the short-lived spinoff Joanie Loves Chachi. It was canceled after just one season. Following her quick rise to fame, however, Moran struggled in life. She appeared to have a drinking problem and, after a series of bizarre incidents, eventually landed her in a trailer park in Indiana. She had reportedly gone broke and was kicked out of the mobile home she shared with husband, Steve Fleischmann. Along with her aforementioned legendary role, Moran appeared on episodes of Murder, She Wrote, Desperation Boulevard and VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club. An autopsy has been scheduled to determined cause of death. In 2011, Moran and three of her Happy Days costars (Don Most, Anson Williams and Marion Ross), along with the estate of Tom Bosley, who died in 2010, sued CBS for breach of contract. Alleging that they had not been paid for merchandising relating to the series, they sought millions in damages. In 2012, CBS and the actors settled their lawsuit, with the group receiving and undisclosed amount of money. A Burbank, California native, Moran started acting in television shows and movies before she was 10 years old. She was just 14 when she caught her major break on Happy Days.  In response to this sad news, former co-stars of Moran’s took to social media and expressed their sadness. To wit: Ron Howard : Such sad sad news. RIP Erin. I’ll always choose to remember you on our show making scenes better, getting laughs and lighting up tv screens. Henry Winkler : OH Erin… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth …Rest In It serenely now.. too soon. Added Moran’s good friend, Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha on Bewitched: “So sad to share that my friend Erin Moran has passed away. Rest In Peace, sweet girl. Other stars also chimed in on Moran’s passing, such as Yvette Nicole Brown, who Tweeted: “Such sad news. #RIP #ErinMoran #HappyDays Star Dead At 56. We all loved #JoanieCunningham.” And Troy Hughes: “THIS JUST IN … Erin Moran who starred in “Happy Days” and “Joanie Loves Chachi” has died according to @TMZ … She was 56.” We send along our condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Erin Moran. Rosie Huntington-Whitely in a Tight Dress of the Day

I didn’t know Rosie Huntington-Whitely was pregnant, but she’s pregnant. I guess I don’t keep up to speed on a hot model who gets topless, despite being all fancy with her UK accent, like a trash can glamour girl, but instead a top model, who dates celebrities as a hot model, who I guess is now old – because she’s been around forever- hence the whole pregnancy…. Because I am not a creepy enough fan boy with nothing better to do than obsess over the bitch in transformers who replaced megan fox…even though I really have nothing better to do with my time than obsess over her…I just choose not to.. Ready to drop fantasties rarely exist in my world…unless it’s finding out the bitch I just came in is pregnant with another dude so that we safe…. Jennifer Garner: Did She Leave Ben Affleck Because He Never Finished Rehab?

Last week, the world learned that Jennifer Garner had filed for divorce from Ben Affleck . The news came as a surprise for several reasons: For starters, Ben and Jen had been separated for over a year with no apparent plans to end their marriage. On top of that, Ben recently entered rehab for alcohol addiction , seemingly as part of his effort to win his wife back. Now, however, there are questions as to whether or not Affleck actually completed his course of treatment. According to his own timeline, Affleck only stayed at the facility for two weeks. Generally, rehab counselors recommend a minimum of four weeks of treatment, and in the cases of those who have the time and money (such as celebrities) they suggest a much longer stay. Many now believe it’s no coincidence that Ben’s stint was so short and Jen filed so soon after. As with seemingly everything related to Ben and Jen, however, there are two conflicting sides to the story: “She’s telling friends she believes he left rehab too soon,” a source tells In Touch. “But he refused to stay in rehab, saying he missed the family and would continue outpatient treatment. Jen believes he was coming up with excuses.”  Not surprisingly, People magazine – the official publication of PR teams everywhere – offers a different take, claiming there was no particular reason why Jen filed when she did. In fact, an insider tells the magazine that Jen initially planned to file sooner, but wanted to wait until Ben was through with rehab. “Jen waited for the right time,” the source claims. “She wasn’t going to file for divorce while Ben was struggling. She is very proud of him for getting help.” The source adds: “It was just time. There was no catalyst … As in any marriage, there were numerous reasons why it didn’t work.” Currently, Ben lives in a guest house on the property where he once lived with Jen. Interestingly, it seems there are no immediate plans for the Oscar winner to relocate: “When and if he moves out, it will be when he finds a place suitable for their situation,” says the source close to the couple. “They want to keep the kids close.” View Slideshow: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner Photos: A Romantic Rewind
