Image via Jessica McGowan/Getty Images Brian Kemp Talks Absentee Ballots In Leaked Audio If you’ve been paying attention to what’s happening in the upcoming midterm election, you know that Georgia’s incumbent Secretary of State Brian Kemp has been under HEAVY scrutiny for his seemingly shady practice of suppressing the vote for over 53,000 people, 70% of which are African-American. As Secretary of State Kemp is responsible for running the elections and that potential conflict of interest has raised LOTS of eyebrows not only in Georgia but nationwide. According to Rolling Stone , those suspicions have only been heightened with the leak of an audio recording of Kemp making some dubious comments about his opponent Stacey Abrams’ ability to garner support via absentee ballots. “They have just an unprecedented number of that,” he said, “which is something that continues to concern us, especially if everybody uses and exercises their right to vote — which they absolutely can — and mail those ballots in, we gotta have heavy turnout to offset that.” Peep what else Kemp had to say below. Virginia Sherwood/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images Jocko Sims Says His “New Amsterdam” Character Is Anti-Swirl But He’s Not If you’ve been missing out on NBC’s new Tuesday night hospital drama “New Amsterdam” we’d like to suggest there’s no time like the present to catch up. Last week BOSSIP caught up with one of the stars of the show, Jocko Sims who plays heart surgeon Dr. Floyd Reynolds. Reynolds has a lot of chemistry with Dr. Lauren Bloom, played by actress Janet Montgomery, and while it’s clear the pair have a good thing going, Reynolds is reluctant to let their relationship move beyond the friends with benefits zone because he wants a black wife and a black family. BOSSIP: What did you think when you read about the swirl situation in the script? Jocko Sims: This was our goal, just to get people talking. That’s what was refreshing to me, that it sparked a conversation. When I first saw it I was a little nervous, because first of all what he said was racist. Flip it. Think about it if the roles were reversed. A white guy and Black girl and they’re having sexual relations and she asks if they can take things further and he says “Well, I can’t because you’re not white.” BOSSIP: But that happens all the time, especially if one party or the other is a certain religion. Like you will find that if you’re dating a Jewish person or another religion. JS: But is that racist? Speaking of Jewish, We showed this that a hospital and one guy was really concerned because he felt like if the tables were turned it would be wrong. My concern, I really try to look at things from multiple perspectives, whether it concerns race or not when I’m looking at characters. I was thinking he is going to offend people on both sides. Like I got hit up by Black women and they’re like “Whoo, that’s right!”, then I got hit up today at the airport like ‘What are you doing? Don’t be using us as an excuse… Da da da da da, you not really down.’ Bottom line again, we’re talking about it again in this country, we’re talking and that’s what we wanted. You’ve got your Turkish families, who are like “I want you to marry a nice Turkish… ” It’s interesting because I’ve been in that position. I’ve dated different races. I’ve had my mom’s voice in the back of my head. The only issue I had was maybe I wasn’t able to come to terms with why I didn’t wanna take “Susie” — I just made up a name — home, but I would be afraid of it. I sympathize with Reynolds because, yeah, he’s been there. HE’s going where I have been I’ve never been compelled to tell someone ‘Hey you’re good enough for — but yeah you can’t come home and meet Mom.’ That was a little bit unrealistic for me but everybody generally is loving it. Someone asked me what I would want for the future generations and all I would ask that we just be able to sit down and listen to one another and have a conversation. For folks, before they talk to listen. The dialogue is worth having. BOSSIP: So is this going to be something that we’ll continue to see because he did offer her a drink after that conversation. Does she go back to his apartment? JS: A few people have been confused by that. I think that was kind of unclear, because he asked her if she wanted a drink literally right after she almost died, so she was like ‘Right now?’ because you know ‘get a drink’ usually meant… But in this case he was literally asking her if she wanted a glass of scotch to relax, he wasn’t asking her for more sex. Will there be more? You know I can’t tell you that. Everybody on Twitter is like “You know they’re going to … ” That’s what I would expect too. It’s been one full week since the world learned that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have ended their engagement. The reasons for the split remain mysterious, though some ugly rumors about Pete’s behavior in the final days of the relationship have made their way across the social media landscape. The only thing insiders seem to agree on in accounts they’ve offered to the media is that the death of Mac Miller played a role in Ariana’s decision to end her relationship with Pete. Grande and Miller dated for over two years and parted ways not long before the singer began her relationship with Davidson. Last month, Miller died of an apparent overdose after struggling with addiction for several years. In the wake of her ex’s passing, Grande has made it clear that despite the dissolution of their romantic relationship, her love for Miller remains intact. And she’s once again reminded fans of that fact with her latest Instagram story. Grande posted a video she shot at last year’s Academy Awards. In the video, Miller is seen joking and smiling with Grande’s mother and grandmother backstage. “I should have worn that for the night,” Miller jokes while watching an interview with a flamboyantly-dressed Elton John. At that point, Miller turns to Grande and laughs. The singer overlaid the video with a small heart as a symbol of her affection for the departed rapper. It’s not the first time that Ari has paid tribute to Mac in the weeks since his passing. Belcalis dropped her track “Money” today, her first solo release since her “Invasion of Privacy” album. As previously reported Kenya had a fairytale themed celebration that brought out housewives, “Married to Medicine” stars and of course her husband Marc Daly. Noticeably absent however was NeNe who seemingly played nice with Kenya on social media and blasted Bravo for not making her a full-time housewife this season. “So happy for her! Bravo should have made her a housewife this season!” wrote NeNe in the Instagram comments section. “She really really deserves it! Congrats girl! Scott Disick has been sure to use social media to remind Kourtney and the world that he is still banging a very young model . His relationship with now-20-year-old Sofia Richie has lasted longer than anyone expected — him included. Apparently, Scott has been caught off-guard by how well they work as a couple. He never thought anyone could replace Kourtney. According to a report by HollywoodLife , Scott Disick is blown away that his relationship with Sofia is as good an enduring as it is. “Scott thinks Sofia looks amazing,” the insider says. We’ll just take that as confirmation that Scott has functioning eyes. “And,” the source continues. “He is more attracted to her today than ever before.” Sometimes, relationships that began with physical attraction and sexual compatibility die down. But there’s more than general horniness keeping these two from going their separate ways. “Scott and Sofia are in a really good place together,” the insider reveals. And apparently no one is more surprised by this than Scott himself. Scott has also reportedly been “behaving more maturely” and “being a better father.” Up until that last bit, those sound like things that you’d say to praise someone’s idiot college boyfriend. But hey, progress is progress. Apparently, Scott is not the only one who is taken aback by how well this relationship is going. “Kourtney is surprised and shocked that Scott is still in a relationship with Sofia,” an insider shares. It’s easy to look at her and wonder why she’s spending so much time “wasting” one — so far, just one — of her best years with an older man. But different people have different interests. VH1 Teairra Continues Her Downward Spiral This can’t be life. After a few weeks of feeling bad for Teairra and her having her sex tape leak online, the internet has finally done a total 180 and turned on her. Why? Well, for one she’s decided to stay with Akbar, his alleged harem of sister wives and his alleged photo-leaking policies. Why? Well, according to her, it’s because of how good the D is. SMH.
