Getty Images NASA Science Competition Hacked By Racist Trolls NASA has admitted to shutting down the public voting for one of their innovation competitions after a hacker tried to rig the vote against a trio of Black girls who were in the lead. “On Sunday, April 29, hackers attempted to change the vote totals in the NASA OPSPARC Challenge, so managers of the challenge decided to end public voting to protect the integrity of the results,” the agency announced in a statement . The Banneker Academic High School students—Bria Snell, India Skinner, and Mikayla Sharrieff—were competing in NASA Goddard’s Optimus Prime Spinoff Promotion and Research Challenge. Their entry involved creating technology that would purify water in public schools, and had taken an early lead in the final with a whopping 70% of the vote, according to The Ro ot . Now, it looks like NASA had to shut down the voting due to a hacker’s racist intentions to prevent the girls from winning. The prize is a trip to the agency’s national space program in Maryland. The statement continued, “Unfortunately, it was brought to NASA’s attention yesterday that some members of the public used social media, not to encourage students and support STEM, but to attack a particular student team based on their race and encouraged others to disrupt the contest and manipulate the vote, and the attempt to manipulate the vote occurred shortly after those posts.” The Washington Post reports say that the “anonymous posters used racial epithets, argued that the students’ project did not deserve to be a finalist and said that the black community was voting for the teens only because of their race. They urged people to vote against the Banneker trio, and one user offered to put the topic on an Internet thread about President Trump to garner more attention. They recommended computer programs that would hack the voting system to give a team of teenage boys a boost.” The winners of the competition are to be announced in the next few weeks, a NASA Goddard spokesperson told Newsweek . “NASA continues to support outreach and education for all Americans, and encourages all of our children to reach for the stars,” they said.

It was just a few weeks ago when news broke that her allegedly belligerent baby daddy loosened her teeth up after he hit her in the mouth. In an official summons and complaint against Fab – which was obtained by BOSSIP – Emily B said her sons’ father committed domestic violence against her, punching her in the head seven times, “causing severe damage to her two front teeth,” which later had to be medically removed. Looks like she got them replaced…right? We wish Emily B the best!
Back in February, Kevin Smith suffered a heart attack that nearly claimed his life. Fortunately, the beloved filmmaker pulled through, and these days, he's up and about, and once again meeting the many demands of his still-thriving media empire. Smith updated fans on his condition throughout his recovery, noting that he rapidly lost 17 pounds after switching to a mostly plant-based diet. Yes, the man who created such characters as Bluntman & Chronic and who hosts a web series called Fatman on Batman might not seem like the most likely health guru, but Smith has been to the brink and turned things around. And while he admits that some of his vices led to the slow deterioration of his health, there's one indulgence that may have literally saved his life. Smith appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, and he shared the tale of receiving some very surprising news from his physician. It seems Smith was in New York to perform a stand-up set when the attack occurred, and his pre-show herbal relaxation ceremony wound up making the difference between life and death. “I asked my doctor like after this was all done, I was like, 'I hate to ask this question, man, but did I have a heart attack because of the weed? Because I smoked a joint right before the show,'” Smith told the audience. “No. In fact, quite the opposite,” Smith recalled the doctor saying. “That weed saved your life.” Yes, they're the words every stoner dreams of hearing. And we think it's safe “He said, you kept calm…they told you [you] were going through stuff and you kept calm the whole time, so that joint saved your life,” Smith told said. “I'm putting that on a T-shirt,” the 47-year-old concluded. We're guessing that's one item of merchandise that would prove very popular with Smith's fans.

(Photo by Julie Dermansky/Corbis via Getty Images) Just two weeks ago, two young black men were arrested after a Starbucks barista called police on them for simply sitting down in the coffeehouse. Video captured the arrests and the clip went viral immediately. The reaction was swift and unrelenting. The young black men were clearly racially profiled and treated like they were because they are black. Hell, they were only in the Starbucks for two minutes, not even really getting a chance to actually loiter. The outrage towards Starbucks came from all corners of social media – white, black, man and woman – all joined forces to threaten boycotts, write the company and demand they rectify a wrongdoing. As a result of the mobilizing, the Starbucks CEO decided to stand with the young men, offering them working opportunities, making media appearances and even closing stores for a day to initiate diversity training for its employees. This was certainly above and beyond what we’ve seen from most companies accused of racial insensitivities and it’s largely thanks to the efforts of black activists who held Starbucks’ feet to the fire nonstop. Waffle House has been spared this outcome. Chikesia Clemons walked into a Waffle House in Saraland, Alabama late on the evening of April 22nd, a few days after the Starbucks incident. It’s unclear what happened next but we do know, thanks to another viral video, police were called and Clemons was held down, her breast exposed, officer hands on her neck. It was disgusting. The events that led to the altercation are disputed: Waffle House employees say that Clemons walked in drunk and threatened to “shoot up” the restaurant after being charged $.50 for plastic utensils. However, the employee who called 911 never mentioned the threat to the operator. Clemons’ attorney, Benjamin Crump, says he has witnesses who dispel the employee’s claims. Waffle House and its CEO have stood by the actions of its employees and even taking a step farther by saying they “strongly support the actions taken by the Saraland Police Department” (despite the fact that Waffle House as a business isn’t one with an expertise in law enforcement training so they really don’t have any authority to say what is proper protocol or not). And through it all, the amount of pushback directed at Waffle House has been infinitesimal compared to the amount of action directed at Starbucks. There are marches taking place in Georgia, and proposed boycotts and sit-ins, but not nearly on the level of what we saw at Starbucks, which forced the CEO to speak up. Why? Is it because there were so many vocal white cosigners for the Starbucks incident as opposed to the Waffle House situation? The Starbucks incident was one of those acts of resistance that didn’t inconvenience white people while at the same time allowing many to feel like they are about equality – it’s easy to point the finger at one Starbucks worker for her actions. However, we’ve seen how so many white Americans simply can’t bring themselves to question law enforcement. Is the reluctance because there just never seems to be the same sort of thirst for justice when it comes to black women as for literally any other group of people on this planet? We’ve seen these cases so often of a hesitance or flat-our refusal for anyone to stand up for black women, which the exception of black women themselves. Of course, there’s the fact that the Waffle House situation has more dissenting testimonies than Starbucks. That’s undeniable. But no matter what the narrative is, there’s absolutely no reason for Clemons to have been assaulted as she was. That is also undeniable. So Waffle House going so far as to defend the police actions is a reprehensible enough decision to warrant immediate action, even if you feel they are justified in calling police in the first place.. Sadly, though, when it comes to instances of black women being attacked, there’s always a wait-and-see approach. Stories about wronged black women seem to bring about the “let’s let the facts play out crowd.” The same people who have an understanding of lies and conspiracies to keep black men subjugated are suddenly proponents of the American judicial system, despite its history of terrorizing black communities. Where does that leave the Chikesia Clemonses of the world? The same place it left Korrine Gaines or the endless black women who are victims of R. Kelly’s sexual assaults. Alone, defended by only other black women and a few choice allies. So what side do you fall on? If you spoke up about Starbucks but have been silent about Waffle House, then you need to ask yourself why. And what that means about your ideas of justice for black women. Another week, another Tori Roloff pregnancy rumor. Whether she intends to do so or not, the Little People, Big World has apparently made a habit out of sharing Instagram photos that prompt many followers to make assumptions about her womb. The beloved TLC personality only just gave birth to her first child last May, yet fans have been asking for several weeks if she’s expecting again. Actually, that’s not even accurate. Fans have been stating, very matter-of-factly, that Roloff simply has to be pregnant again. In January, for example, Tori said she loved to see husband Zach on the floor, playing with “kids.” She used the plural form of this word, leading many folks out there to speculate that a second child was on the way for this couple. A month after this caption was penned, Roloff asked her fellow mothers for advice because her nipples hurt while breastfeeding. There could have been many reasons for this pain, but Internet users once again jumped straight to pregnancy. Now, the rumors have started up for the third time. In this new case, the chatter centers on the first image we’ve shared in this article. It’s a sweet and harmless snapshot of Tori lying on a blanket with son Jackson, right? Yes. But it also features the reality star with her hands on her belly. “Picnic snuggles. Anyone else ready for summer?! #zandtpartyofthree #babyjroloff,” Roloff simply wrote as a caption this time around. But it seems like many folks didn’t even bother reading it. They couldn’t stop making presumptions based on the placement of Tori’s hands. “The way you had your hands, I thought you were announcing another baby Roloff,” wrote hazel_eyes209 as a comment to the photo. “You would be great with a second baby,” said a_y_j2001. “You guys make the cutest babies please have another” urged ashley_nicole_mulcahy. As you can see below, these people were not alone: Roloff, meanwhile, may actually be aware of all this chatter. She may be having some fun with it, too. Just over a week ago, Tori said that she’d love to ” totally have a second kid .” And the thing is, we’re sure she will! She and Zach have talked about giving Jackson at least one sibling someday. We just wish social media participants wouldn’t just to so many conclusions and put this kind of pressure on the stars. When she’s ready to announce a second pregnant, she’ll do exactly that; on her own terms, on her own time table. Ryan Edwards might be in deep, deep trouble. We've known for several weeks that Edwards was arrested for an unspecified probation violation last month, but now the charges that landed him on probation in the first place have been revealed. And it seems more likely than ever that the troubled Teen Mom OG star will be unable to avoid jail time. According to Radar Online, Edwards was arrested last year with a large quantity of heroin and 14 hypodermic needles. News of these charges comes on the heels of claims by Edwards' wife, Mackenzie Standifer, that Ryan was recently taken into custody simply so he could be booked on previous charges. Here's everything we know so far: 1. The Bust In March of 2017, Ryan was pulled over for an expired tag while driving near his home in Tennessee. One of the officers spotted a hypodermic needle in an open backpack Edwards’ passenger seat. 2. The Report According to a police report obtained by Radar, the officer inquired about the needle, and Ryan seemed to realize right away that he had been busted. 3. An Upfront Response?! “I asked Edwards if he had any medical conditions, and he replied, ‘No,'” the arresting officer wrote. 4. Okay, Maybe Not… “I then asked why he had a hypodermic needle in his backpack, and he replied, ‘I don’t know,'” the officer adds. 5. Big Trouble For Little Ryan “I told them that the vehicle will be searched and he should inform me if there are more [needles], and Edwards replied, ‘Yes, probably,'” the officer wrote. 6. “Them”?! The use of the plural pronoun in the report has led many to the conclusion that Mackenzie may have been with Ryan at the time of his arrest.
