Police report that 29-year-old Omar Mateen, a security officer, went on a rampage and shot over 100 people. TMZ reports: The killer in the Orlando nightclub slaughter is 29-year-old Omar Mateen. TMZ has done a records search and found he held a Florida security officer license and a state firearms license. He’s an American citizen and he has family that are not — his parents are Afghan. Authorities say he was a terrorist and was targeting gays. They say in addition to terrorism this is a hate crime. Authorities also believe he is part of the radical Islam movement, although they do not know if it was an organized attack or if he was a lone wolf. Law enforcement says he was well prepared, with an assault weapon, a handgun and 2 suspicious devices. 50 people were murdered and another 50 injured. Matten’s father has since said that religion did NOT play a part in his son’s rampage. Instead he said his son’s actions were prompted by his disapproval of homosexuality. People Ain’t Isht: Vandals Who Targeted The Gravesites Of Black War Veterans Still At Large

New York Vandals Target The Gravesites Of Black War Veterans Vandals who desecrated the grave-sites of African American veterans have yet to be caught according to New York CBS Local : As CBS2’s Lou Young reported, the gravesites of veterans in the African-American section of Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye were vandalized over Memorial Day weekend. Flags were stolen and a stone was knocked over. The historic cemetery is no stranger to vandalism. There have been broken monuments and toppled tombstones before. “To have this happen to these veterans is just unconscionable,” said David Thomas of the Friends of the African-American Cemetery. American flags placed on the graves of African-Americans who served in four wars were stolen last Friday as Memorial Day approached. It happened in an old segregated burial ground – a resting place for 379 New Yorkers of color. Among them are 35 veterans of the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II. It was a careful sacrilege that in many ways was more chilling than previous intrusions at the cemetery. People ain’t isht!!!!!

Women Are Twice As Likely To Experience Anxiety, According To Research

Women are twice as likely to struggle with anxiety disorders in comparison to men, new research from the University of Cambridge, which was published in the journal Brain and Behavior, suggests. According to The Independent, researchers also found that the disorder, which is estimated to affect four in every 100 people, disproportionately impacts those under 35 years of age. “Anxiety disorders can make life extremely difficult for some people and it is important for our health services to understand how common they are and which groups of people are at greatest risk,” said Olivia Remes with the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at Cambridge… [ MadameNoire ] You Can Now Crowdfund Your Divorce If you want out of your marriage but can’t quite afford to do so, you just might be able to get some help with that. Compton’s Champion: Serena Williams Covers Glamour, Talks “Drake Curse”, Pay Equality, Having Kids And More

Serena Williams Covers The New Issue Of Glamour Magazine This month, the #BlackGirlMagic goddess spoke to Melissa Harris-Perry for Glamour’s June cover story and talked about a myriad of topics Black Girl Magic/Fan Investment MHP: You and Venus were the original black-girl magic. People who do not know you feel a personal stake in every match you play. SW: That’s something. I meet people who say, “Girl, I watch every match, and I pray for you.” I feel that energy and those prayers. Sometimes when I’m down on the court, in the back of my mind, I’m thinking, “They want me to win. Is there anything else I can give?” It encourages me to do better, to fight harder. Drake Curse MHP: Twitter ate Drake alive after your loss at the U.S. Open [then rumored to be her boyfriend, he was accused of having distracted her]. Is that fair? SW: No. I don’t think that was fair. I’m the one who’s playing, who’s making mistakes or making winners. I’m not one to blame anyone else for anything. And I don’t think anyone else should either. I played a really good opponent that day. And I wasn’t at my best. Pay Equality For Women MHP: The U.S. women’s soccer team has been challenging inequity in women’s sports, fighting for equal pay. It’s an issue facing NCAA women in multiple fields [including tennis, where women make 80 cents for each dollar men earn]. Want to weigh in on this? SW: These sports have a lot of work to do. And I really hope that I can be helpful in that journey because I do believe that women deserve the same pay. We work just as hard as men do. I’ve been working, playing tennis, since I was three years old. And to be paid less just because of my sex—it doesn’t seem fair. Will I have to explain to my daughter that her brother is gonna make more money doing the exact same job because he’s a man? If they both played sports since they were three years old, they both worked just as hard, but because he’s a boy, they’re gonna give him more money? Like, how am I gonna explain that to her? In tennis we’ve had great pioneers that paved the way—including Venus, who fought so hard for Wimbledon to pay women the same prize money they pay men, and Billie Jean King, who is one of the main reasons Title IX exists. Having Kids MHP: You mentioned kids. Do you want a family of your own? SW: Yeah. I definitely want to have kids one day. That’s something I’ve always wanted since as long as I could remember. And the older I get, the more I’m like, “I’m too young!” [Laughs.] MHP: The older you get, the more real it gets, the more you realize how hard parenting is, right? SW: Yeah. I was just joking with Venus about this yesterday and saying, “I’m far too young!” Hopefully I’ll be able to mature one of these days, get serious, and at least have them pretty fast. Moral of the story: Keep praying for Serena, leave Aubrey alone, pay her what you owe her, and find her a bae for whom she can tote a gut full.
