Serena Williams’ Postpartum Issues Are A Lesson In Healing After Giving Birth

Source: Bryan Bedder / Getty Celebrity women like Serena Williams, Beyonce, Chrissy Teigen, Cardi B and Tia Mowry are finally keeping it real about how hard pregnancy and postpartum life can be for a lot of women. Imagine being in control of yourself your entire life then suddenly, nothing is how you had expected. You don’t feel like yourself or think like yourself. It’s like an out-of-body experience. Add the fact that you are responsible for another little life, and that is a recipe for a breakdown. Why didn’t our mother’s warn us? I identify with Serena Williams the most because she has always been a friend in my head plus, I’m also an athlete. I ran track as a child, grew up dancing with a performance troupe, danced all the way to adulthood, and also picked up pole dancing and aerial hoop habits. It’s obviously not tennis and I’m definitely no Serena Williams, but I was fit and dexterous before pregnancy, and I thought bouncing back would be a breeze because I had a smooth pregnancy through which I still worked out without complications. I seriously thought I’d be able to get back to my regularly scheduled program in terms of work, my body bouncing back, and balancing the new life I was responsible for with everything else in 6-weeks post birth because I was good at planning and executing my goals. It worked with my career and it worked with my hobbies, so why not my life as a working mom? That was extremely naive, but in a world where overachieving is the thing to do to the point where we sometimes get unrealistic and don’t allow room for going with the flow, I just didn’t create space in my brain for anything less than optimal results right away. My ego was dealt a devastating blow after attempting to work out following my 6-week doctor clearance was struggle city. My abdomen still felt like jelly and my joints were freakishly unstable. How could I not do my usual HIIT workout? It was all I knew. What about muscle memory? How could my body betray me like this? But it did and I was furious. I couldn’t resume working out the way I wanted to and developed back pain serious enough to have to visit a chiropractor multiple times. I was forced to take my time easing back into it, which was depressing. I started with lightweight workouts geared toward postpartum women , but it wasn’t until 6 months postpartum that I finally felt comfortable enough to get back into the dance classes, pilates, and HIIT that I loved and I still had to modify certain moves at times. In addition to all of the above, I still had career goals that I planned to accomplish but it took me months to mentally get back into a space where I wanted to think about work, and actually figured out a new rhythm with my baby. I’m two years postpartum, and while I am psychologically okay most of the time, my body is just now starting to feel like it can do the things that it used to. I’m at 90% and I don’t know that the extra 10% will ever come. I’m still getting used to my new normal. I still feel guilty about having ambitions outside of family, but at the same time, while I love my daughter, I understand that I also need to cultivate my career and personal interests in order to feel sane. In hindsight, I beat myself up for things I couldn’t control during a time when it’s important to take it easy. Sure, women have been having babies since forever, which is why people downplay the severity of giving birth and take the healing process for granted, but it’s always a big deal. Your body has gone through a major shift that can be traumatic in some cases (broken pelvis, weak pelvic floor, etc), and healing time varies. A lot of us try to do the most too fast like it’s a competition to see who can bounce back the fastest and we really just need to sit down, relax and nourish our bodies and spirits as much as we can because anything else does more harm than good. Postpartum life has a way of humbling you and Serena Williams is proof. We noticed that she hadn’t been playing tennis as fiercely as we knew she could and she eventually pulled out of the Rogers Cup, which wasn’t a surprise. If you read her now blown up  Instagram post  about how she has been feeling, then you understand what she’s going through. It’s hard for ambitious moms to take a break, but what matters most is that she listened to her body, her intuition, and her mom tribe, and did what was best for herself and family. She’ll be back when she’s really ready and there’s no time that anyone can put on it. The body knows and communicates what it needs, and patience is all that is necessary. A rare sect of women may actually be able to get back to business in a week or two, some women have no choice but to jump back into the fray immediately (because maternity leave in the United States is trash), but most women aren’t ready to resume daily activities and unfortunately, that’s something that we don’t talk about enough or lie about too often. It’s okay to not feel okay as long as you’re working toward healing (I still need to take my own advice on that) and it’s okay if it doesn’t happen right away. Everyone’s postpartum journey is different, but it’s time for all of us overachievers to surrender to the process as individuals and stop trying to live up to ridiculous standards. Lily-Rose Depp in Vogue Russia of the Day

Lily-Rose Depp is my favorite of the celebrity rich kids who are entitled as fuck and trying to find some higher, more interesting level of purpose, as artists or socialites in denial of their spoiled existence – because it is all they no… She is hardly like an Asia Argento, 90s rich kid from private schools, who had addictions and no fucking soul…playing the whole dark and edgy in a time when that was trendy…only to kill off Bourdain after blocking him on Instagram because she’s that kind of rich kid cunt.. While Lily Rose Depp is seemingly much sweeter, interesting, less broken and try hard…and for that…we celebrate her VOGUE SHOOT…a shoot I may have already posted by am posting again because I can’t get enough Lily Rose Depp..

Jax Taylor Pens Emotional Tribute to His Late Fater

In December, Jax Taylor’s father died following a cancer battle . Cancer is the actual worst, folks. Months later, on his late father’s birthday, Jax has taken to social media to share his thoughts on his dearly departed dad. Jax was clearly able to be emotionally honest, because you can tell that he wrote this from the heart. Jax Taylor’s father, Ronald Cauchi, is gone but not forgotten by his son. On Tuesday, June 12, Jax posted a tribute to his father on Instagram. “Happy birthday to my angel in the sky,” Jax writes. “I love you so much dad and I miss you more and more each day.” Losing a loved one can get easier over time, but … not in just a few months. “Since you have left you have changed me in so many ways,” Jax writes. Recent stories about Jax have made it sound like he’s really thinking about what sort of person he wants to be. Jax then adds: “Thank you for being my father.” There is no good time to lose a loved one. “My new goal in life,” Jax announces. “Is to be exactly the man you are to your family.” He makes it clear that he is not the only one who thinks that his father was a good person. Jax continues: “Jenny and I are still getting messages from your friends on what an incredible man you are…” He adds elipses there at the end, showing that he is pausing to find the words. This is an emotional message. “I am so f–king proud to be your son dad,” Jax writes. That is so sweet. His father is going to miss on some major life milestones. “My only wish is that you could see me and Brittany on our wedding day,” Jax laments.”And meet your grandchildren.” Jax and Brittany Cartwright are actually engaged . Like we said, it seems like he’s really stepping up. Jax takes comfort in one thing: “But I know you will be with me in spirit and help guide me the rest of my life.” That is so heartwarming to read. “I love you dad…” Jax trails off again. Even in print, sometimes deep and powerful emotions can be difficult to express. “Until we see each other again, keep the fireball ready and the redwing game on.” Jax ends his post on a seemingly alarming note. “I’ll see you soon,” he writes. “Cheers pop.” Despite his phrasing, we absolutely do not believe that Jax is expressing the expectation that he will die any time soon. We think that he instead means that, in comparison to the vastness of eternity, the rest of his long and hopefully happy life will seem relatively short. This is a sweet and tender message and shows how sensitive Jax can be as a person. Not only was Jax’s father’s birthday this week, but Father’s Day is coming up right around the corner. You know that this holiday celebration is going to be emotionally challenging for Jax. Perhaps even surprisingly so. When you are grieving a loved one for that first year, sometimes you don’t always anticipate which days are going to have the strongest emotional impact. Father’s Day is not one of the subtle ones. We’re sure that he’ll be with family — including his fiancee Brittany — to see him through the day. View Slideshow: 37 Classic Vanderpump Rules Moments in GIFs

Tiffany Haddish Identifies Beyonce Biter, Attempts to Bang Leonardo DiCaprio

Back in March, Tiffany Haddish told a story with a mysterious ending that left the internet scrambling in search of clues. In a typically candid and hilarious interview, the comedian revealed that she once saw another celebrity bite Beyonce on her face in the middle of an A-list event. Haddish declined to identify the perpetrator, but further piqued the public’s curiosity by revealing that the feral female was high as a kite when she went in for a taste of Bey: Near the end of the party,” said Haddish. “Beyoncé’s at the bar, so I said to Beyoncé, ‘Did she really bite you?’ She was like, ‘Yeah,'” Haddish told GQ . “I was like, ‘She gonna get her ass beat tonight,'” Haddish continued. “She was like, ‘Tiffany, no. Don’t do that. That bitch is on drugs. She not even drunk. The bitch is on drugs. She not like that all the time. Just chill.’” At the time, Haddish stubbornly refused to call out the biter by name, but today, in a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she finally spilled the tea: Like so many others, we predicted way back when that it was actress Sanaa Lathan who indulged in some top quality bath salts before sinking her teeth into Queen Bey, and now, Haddish has confirmed our suspicions: “I’m super good friends with her stepmom and her dad [Stan, a producer-director], and they were mad at me,” the Girls Trip star said. “They were like, ‘Why would you do this to the family? You know, black actresses, you guys have to stick together, it’s so hard for you guys to get work as it is, why would you try to ruin her career?’ “But I didn’t try to ruin her career. I never said her name!” It’s true. Haddish tried to protect Lathan’s identity, but internet sleuths are a persistent lot. She probably figured now that the cat is essentially out of the bag, she might as well come out with it. Tiffany was less worried about protecting the reputations A-listers like Roseanne (“She been racist, why’d you all give her a TV show?”) and Leonardo DiCaprio. “I met him at a party two, three months ago, and I asked him if he’d let me hit that,” said Haddish. “He’s like, ‘Tiffany, you’re so funny.’ I’m like, ‘I’m serious.’ And then he goes, ‘I mean, I’d do it, but…’ … I told him, ‘My only stipulation:  “I wanna do it with you as your character in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.’ He starts busting’ up laughing.’” Our younger readers might need to go watch Gilbert Grape both in order to get that joke and to understand that there was a time when Johnny Depp was more than a melting wax figure of Keith Richards.
