To the world’s horror, Bill Cosby’s sexual assault trial ended in a mistrial , thanks to a deadlocked jury. Like, surely even Cosby’s lingering supporters were hoping for an acquittal, as if that would exonerate him by association from his 57 other accusers. The woman whose police report forced him into a courtroom, Andrea Constand, is finally speaking out. “Thank you for the outpouring of love & kindness & support,” she shared over Twitter. Honestly, she was a lot more graceful and diplomatic than we would have been in her shoes. We’d have been directing our ire at Cosby, at society, and whichever juror or, worse, jurors prevented that jury from reaching a verdict. Instead, she just expressed how much people’s support means to her. “I am eternally grateful for the messages I have received in recent days.” Andrea Constand is handling this with so much grace. Honestly, we can’t imagine the strength of character required to go public about a celebrity with Cosby’s (now former) reputation. If we were in her shoes and she put herself through reliving this nightmare for a trial only to have at least one juror unconvinced, we’d be posting a six-hour rant on YouTube that would only end when we’d had too much to drink to carry on. What else can you do in the face of massive injustice? The middle ground response would just be to say nothing and binge Law & Order instead, but so-called experts claim that “that isn’t therapy” and “isn’t a healthy coping mechanism.” But maybe one of the things helping Andrea Constand keep it together is the knowledge that the prosecutors intend to retry Cosby. Most of Cosby’s alleged victims — the ones we know about, anyway — won’t ever get to see their day in court. This is because of the statute of limitations. We can’t explain to you why any place would have a statute of limitations on sexual assault. Except for the obvious — when men have been the ones writing laws for centuries. In some parts of the US, that limit is as little as 5 years. It’s absurd. So there’s a lot riding on the trial over Andrea Constand’s assault. The retrial gives a lot of people hope — likely Andrea Constand included. Then again, Cosby still has supporters like Keshia Knight Pulliam who insist that the man they know would never do this. Constand has probably had her doubts about the trial’s success all along. You don’t want to get your hopes up, right? And there’s always a chance that Cosby could go through a dozen trials and always have one juror who’s an absolute holdout against conviction. Celebrity status is a powerful thing. According to multiple outlets, the singer and famous husband Jay Z are now the proud parents of a new little boy and girl. 411 Showbiz was the first to report the news and is saying the couple welcomed the new additions to their family early last week. The children were both either Monday or Tuesday, the celebrity gossip source reports, which could explain another notable circumstance. That’s allegedly the reason why Jay Z was a no-show for the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in New York on Thursday night. There is no word on the baby names as of yet, but we’ll keep you up to speed on all of the developments. The legendary artist announced on February 1 that she was expecting child number-two and child number-three, sharing an artistic Instagram photo at the time along with a simple caption. Matthew Knowles has received an unexpected and unwanted present for Father’s Day: The vitriol of the Beyhive. Earlier this week, Beyonce gave birth to her twins , with multiple sources confirming that she and Jay Z are now the proud parents of child number-two and child number-three. Not much else is known about the blessed event or the babies themselves, although Us Weekly alleges one is a boy and one is a girl. TMZ, meanwhile, reports that a “minor” health issue has led to a lengthy stay for the newborns; as of this writing, they remain hospitalized. Beyonce is also still in the hospital, but just to keep an eye over her kids, both of whom are expected to be just fine. Her father, conversely, is in pretty rough shape at the moment, reputation-wise. Matthew became the first member of the Knowles family to break this monumental piece of news, taking to Twitter on Sunday morning and writing the following: “They’re here! #beyonce #twins #jayz #happybirthday.” Nice, right? Sweet, no? Harmless and inspired by love, correct? Wrong, nope and incorrect, apparently. A legion of dedicated fans have responded to Knowles’ Tweet not with messages of congratulations, but with messages of annoyance and irritation. They’re angry that Matthew had the gall to announce this baby news before the mother herself. “You should delete this and let Bey announce it,” Instagram user @wikimct wrote, while a fellow Internet commentator added: “It’s not real until the queen herself reveals it.” Ouch. Harsh. Over the years, Matthew and Beyonce have not had the best relationship, it’s true. He was once fired as her manager, for example, and he’s divorced from her mother, Tina. But does anyone out there really think Matthew was trying to steal Beyonce’s thunder here? That he isn’t simply a very excited grandfather who did wait to reveal the twins’ birth until after a handful of celebrity gossip outlets had done the same? It would be one thing of Matthew shared photos of the babies without his daughter’s consent. That would be very inappropriate. However, he isn’t revealing anything in this Tweet that hadn’t previously been revealed by approximately 877 other websites first. Beyonce and Jay Z have managed through the years to be perhaps the most famous and most successful couple in Hollywood… while also being one of the most private. They’ve made a career out of controlling their images and their narratives as well as any celebrities out there, which is likely why the Beyhive is so riled up in this instance over Matthew’s actions.
