Apparently a Woman in Spain Now Owns the Sun

Photo: meddygarnet / CC It’s the source of energy that drives virtually all systems on Earth , making life itself possible on what would otherwise be a cold, inhospitable rock in the vastness of space — the Sun. And, after what would appear to be a clerical oversight by the whole of humani… Read the full story on TreeHugger

World’s First Biofueled Passenger Flight to Launch Next Year

Photo: Willamor Media , Flickr, CC There’s been plenty of talk and a lot of testing when it comes to various kinds of biofuel-powered airplanes. So far, biofuels have been relegated to the runways for experimental flights. But in 2011, the German airliner Lufthansa plans to launch the world’s first biofuel passenger flight. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Coal Prices May Rise Sooner Than Anyone Expects As Global Reserves Revised Downward

Coal mining in Germany, photo: Bert Kaufmann / Creative Commons We’ve written about how the world’s recoverable coal reserves may be much less than commonly believed (and touted by politicians and coal producers) for a while now; here’s another take on it from Richard Heinberg and David Fridley of the Post Carbon Institute… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Farmigo Streamlines CSA Systems So Farmers Can Profit

Image via Farmigo CSAs, or Community Sustained Agriculture programs , are an excellent way to ensure that the bounty of a farm reaches our kitchen tables. Consumers subscribe to a farm or group (either annual, monthly, or per-box) and receive boxes of freshly harvested, usually organic foods. However, for the farmers, sometimes CSAs can be problematic — either in how much work it is to stay organized with subscriptions and deliveries or losing out on potential profits because of CSA price caps. However, one new sta… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Leslie Nielsen: A Fan’s Appreciation

Read a tribute to the ‘Airplane!’ and ‘Naked Gun’ funnyman, who died Sunday at age 84. By Eric Ditzian Leslie Nielsen Photo: Paramount Pictures Owning a VHS tape of “Airplane!” was utterly pointless. The disaster-flick spoof played on what seemed like a near-constant basic-cable loop, available to feed the insatiable need for a first grader to hear Leslie Nielsen quip, yet again, that while everyone on his ill-fated flight was served steak or fish, he managed to dine on lasagna. But there was a certain comfort in knowing that I had access to the movie any time I needed a quick fix. And I needed it often. For me, there was simply nothing else like it. I didn’t know movies could do what “Airplane!” did. A glue-sniffing, pill-popping air-traffic controller? A little girl who takes her coffee black, just like her men? And what the heck was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doing there? (For photos of the late funnyman throughout his career, click here.) “Airplane!” is a deeply strange movie, and its strangeness had the effect, even after countless viewings, of keeping the film endlessly surprising. How is that even possible? I knew every line and still it felt like anything could happen at any moment. It never got old. Nor did Nielsen, so it seemed. He remained almost unfairly frozen in time — with that same white helmet of hair, that same doughy-skinned face he sported in “Airplane!,” and then later in the “Naked Gun” trilogy. He was a man without a past. It would be decades before I learned of his previous work as a dramatic actor. I knew only what I saw on screen: one of the funniest damn people in the world. And so it was with great sadness that I read of Nielsen’s passing on Sunday at the age of 84. My first encounters with “Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad” were a shock to the system. My thinking went something like, “You mean to tell me there’s a funnier movie than ‘Airplane?’ ” As Lieutenant Frank Drebin, Nielsen just slayed me. The scenes where he crashes a major league baseball game, impersonating an opera singer named Enrico Pallazzo and then stepping into the role of call-botching home plate umpire remain some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen. At least that’s the way I remember it. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “Naked Gun” flick. For that matter, “Airplane!” no longer seems to be on TV constantly. And where that original VHS tape is, I have no idea. But these are movies that are sewn into my pop culture DNA. There’s a certain comfort in that. Alicia Keys recruits Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ryan Seacrest, more for Buy Life campaign. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images If you see headlines this Wednesday about Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian giving up on social media, don’t be alarmed. Along with Usher, Elijah Wood, Justin Timberlake, Khloe Kardashian and Jennifer Hudson, they’re participating in a stunt to promote World AIDS Day in which they will kill off their cyberselves for one day as part of a Digital Life Sacrifice. The idea was hatched by singer Alicia Keys to raise money for her charity, Keep a Child Alive , and as part of the Buy Life promotion the celebrities will urge fans to donate to the charity in order to buy back their online presence. Fans can text the first name of the celebrity they are mourning to 90999 and $10 will instantly be donated to the cause. Kardashian is among the participants who have posed for a poster to bring attention to the effort. In it, she lies in a casket while wearing a cocktail dress and clutching her cell phone. Celebrities such as mega-tweeter Ryan Seacrest have agreed to sign off all social networks on Tuesday until they raise $1 million for World AIDS Day. Seacrest has even videotaped a “Last Tweet and Testament” representing his digital death for his Facebook page that will be linked to from his final tweet early Tuesday morning. In another taped plea, Jennifer Hudson says, “Come on, y’all. Buy my life back. Go on a shopping spree and buy as much of it as you can.” Keep a Child Alive helps provide money for medical care and support services for children and families impacted by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India. Organic food will no longer be availiable Monday, November 29, 2010, Senate Bill S.510

This urgent call-to-action video by the Health Ranger calls upon grassroots food freedom supporters to call their U.S. Senators on Monday, November 29, 2010, to oppose S.510. Video Keywords: food safety, food supply, Senate,S 510,Senate Bill 510,food freedom, health freedom, tyranny,FDA,Big Government, agriculture, legislation, raw milk,America 510:FDA Food Safety Modernization Act A bill to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act with respect to the safety of the food supply. This bill was considered in committee which has recommended it be considered by the Senate as a whole. Although it has been placed on a calendar of business, the order in which legislation is considered and voted on is determined by the majority party leadership. Keep in mind that sometimes the text of one bill is incorporated into another bill, and in those cases the original bill, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned. If this atrocious bill is passed don’t expect to see SWAT teams waiting outside every organic farm waiting to toss a flash-bang grenade. Modern tyranny most often comes first in the form of a suit knocking at your door and demanding to see your licenses and documentation. And that is precisely what this bill outlines. Exhaustive records must be kept for anyone producing food, which will place growing, production and sale of food outside the reach of the average small time operation. Just think back to the Oregon Lemonade stand that was shut down by Health Inspectors. The restraints placed on local farms, food co-ops and farmers markets will destroy whats left of independent agriculture. A wise move in the midst of the Great Recession. Without the freedom to strive for self sufficiency, a god given right endowed to all creatures, we are left only one option. Dependence. The forced symbiosis to factory farms, process plants and the GMO mafia, without so much as the freedom to store and save seeds. Scale Appropriate In addition to the focus on facilities that manufactures, processes, packs, or holds food for sale farmers who supply the nation with fresh produce would also be subject to a number of new regulations and recommended practices. The new rules haven’t been written yet, but are expected to focus on water quality, employee hygiene, the use of manure and compost as fertilizer and wildlife intrusions. Because farmers across the nation have warned against punitive rules and many feel they are already taking extreme steps to make sure their food was safe, FDA officials and bill supporters have professed their commitment to ensuring that the final bill is “scale-appropriate.”S. 510:FDA Food Safety Modernization Act A bill to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act with respect to the safety of the food supply. America dances to the Palin beat !

Why does the Media constantly keep Sarah in the spotlight? Have you noticed maybe in your local paper, or the internet how almost everyday the Media is forcing us too keep Sarah relevant! I posted this article because not only does Comcast seem to cram article after article in it's internet homepage, but it also makes sure her picture is flattering! I'm mean come, you mean too tell Sarah never has a bad hair day? Yet on the other hand Comcast does a bang up job of creating articles and bad pictures of President Obama on a daily basis. The American people are constantly brain washed to except what the establishment considers their celebrity's, and even if you really think about it when a person is killed by police or is arrested, that individuals worst picture in his or hers life is what makes the front page. Please keep in mind how we are being played and read between the lines, you will be surprised how good it feels to think out of the box! added by: kennymotown
