Image: ACS, Barrett et al. And That’s Just Cruise Emissions Researchers from MIT and the University of Cambridge in the UK have released a study that attributes about 8,000 premature deaths to emissions from airplanes at cruise altitudes. Laura Vandervoort As Supergirl Is Super Hot

Apparently Smallville is still on television, or at least it was until this season. What the hell? I thought that crap went off the air like a decade ago. Anyhow, I guess it’s a good thing it didn’t because we would never have gotten to see Laura Vandervoort dressed up as Supergirl and I think that would have been a shame. I hope this isn’t a spoiler, I wouldn’t want their fan to get upset.

Obama: US on Target to Reduce Emissions by 17%

Well there’s an interesting statement. In Rolling Stone’s recently published and widely circulated interview with Barack Obama , the president explains his thoughts on climate change and current US energy policy. Discussions of his frustration with the failure to pass national climate policy, how a new strategy to implement clean tech is needed, and so forth seem more than reasonable–and then he says this: The progress that we’re making on renewable energy, the progress that we’re making on retrofitting buildings and making sure t… Read the full story on TreeHugger

New Drug Test May Save Endangered Vulture from Extinction

Image credit: Wikimedia Commons In 1985, the Indian white-backed vulture was described as one of “the most abundant large bird of prey in the world.” Since then, things have changed dramatically. Since the 1990s, the population has dropped by more than 97 percent and conservationists believe that the species is reaching the point of unavoidable extinction. The culprit: Diclofenac, a bovine painkiller that poisons the birds. In spite of bans, … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Noisy Coral Reefs = Healthy Coral Reefs?

By analyzing the sound, you can find out lots of things about both the fish and the corals. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Recycled Milk Crates Transformed Into Living Pavilion: Behin + Ha

More crate-crazed creativity than you can shake a stick at — this time, in the shape of a curvaceous, wave-form pavilion made from an assemblage of recycled white milk crates. But that’s not all — the crates aren’t just stand-alone components, they also serve as suspended beds for the greenery that lines the inside of the structure — a pretty inventive way to turn a wall of crates into a living skin….
