The two most dramatic men at the Golden Globe Awards last night are squaring off below. George Clooney took home the trophy for Best Actor in a Movie Drama at the ceremony, for his role in The Descendants , while Kelsey Grammer’s win over Bryan Cranston, Damian Lewis and others in the category of Best Actor in a TV Drama was one of the night’s biggest upsets. Both of these stars arrived on the red carpet with lovely ladies on their arms, as well. Stacy Keibler is Clooney’s latest young conquest, while Grammer is married to 30-year old – and pregnant! – Kayte Walsh. Which of these couples looked the hottest? That’s for you to decide right now…
Compared to his monologue from 2011 , Ricky Gervais took it very easy on celebrities to open tonight’s Golden Globe Awards. Celebrities in attendance, that is. The comedian did get in a couple of digs at two THG mainstays, however, first comparing this ceremony to the Academy awards via this zinger: “The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton. A bit louder, bit trashier, bit drunker, and more easily bought… allegedly.” Gervais then turned his attention to Justin Bieber, referring to his paternity test scandal and expressing shock at the mere notion of Bieber as a father. Quipped the host: “The only way that he could have impregnated a girl is if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart’s turkey basters.” Eh, not bad. Fairly random, considering music is the one industry NOT recognized by the Golden Globes, but, hey, being referenced in a monologue means you’ve really made it. Wait, no one tell that to Kim.
James Durbin rang in the new year in the most romantic way possible: the former American Idol finalist married long-time girlfriend Heidi Lowe! James Durbin – Uprising (American Idol) Guests at the ceremony, which took place Saturday in Santa Cruz, California, included other past Idol favorites Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone and Casey Abrams. “We are so in love and happy that we got to share our special day with our closest family and friends,” Lowe and Durbin told People . “This wedding was the perfect way to kick off the New Year. We are looking forward to living happily ever after.” Durbin and Lowe have a two-year old son named Hunter. He served as ring-bearer at the ceremony.
In sad news today, Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge are getting divorced. If it seems like they just got married , it’s because they did. On December 9! It was a great 18-day run for the couple. To put that in perspective, Kim Kardashian ‘s marriage to Kris Humphries lasted four times longer than these two. Why the change of heart, Sinead? The singer explained on her website: “Dear friends, I had for reasons u (sic) will all understand, wished to keep this private but have been told today it is to be leaked in the next few days despite my best efforts … So I must now leak it myself so as the record is straight.” “Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behaviour of certain people in my husband’s life. And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me (sic) wedding night as I don’t drink.” “My husband was enormously wounded and very badly effected (sic) by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage.” “It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me he would be losing too much to bear… A woman wants to be a joy to her husband.” “So… U (sic) love someone? Set them free.” Words to live by, people. Words to live by. [Photo: WENN.com]
We’re celebrating today, not because we “won a war,” but because so many families are about to be reunited. American troops lowered the flag of command that flew over Baghdad Thursday morning, rolled it, and placed it in a green and gray case, officially ending the controversial United States military mission in Iraq after nearly nine years. The understated ceremony under the bright Iraqi sun was the very opposite of the nighttime shock and awe bombardment of Baghdad that began the war against Saddam Hussein in March 2003. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta flew into Baghdad Thursday morning for the ceremony, where he vowed: “We do not forget the lessons of war. “Nor will we ever forget the sacrifices of the more than one million men and women of the United States armed forces who served in Iraq, and the sacrifices of their families,” he said. Panetta paid tribute to the nearly 4,500 Americans who were killed and more than 30,000 who were wounded in Iraq, where an estimated one million Americans troops have served in the past eight-and-a-half years. Iraq Body Count, an independent public database, calculates more than 150,000 Iraqis died between March 2003 and October 2010, the vast majority of them civilians. Panetta said the United States was “deeply indebted” to all Americans in uniform, and hailed the advances made in Iraq since Saddam Hussein was toppled by the invasion. And he said the day “is not about the United States. Rather, today is about Iraq. This is a time for Iraq to look forward.” Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, explained in very practical terms what the end of the U.S. mission meant. Departing from his prepared text, he said he had been able to fly into Iraq on this occasion simply because he wanted to. “The next time I come here, I’m going to have to be invited by the Iraqi government, and I kind of like that,” Dempsey said, before concluding his speech with thanks and a blessing in Arabic. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki was not present, having returned to the country from the United States as the ceremony began. President Jalal Talabani was expected to be there but did not attend. The ceremony marked the official end of the mission that began with the United States-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, aimed at toppling Saddam Hussein. His regime fell in a matter of weeks, and he was captured in December 2003 after months in hiding, then executed in 2006 after a trial by Iraq’s new authorities. All U.S. troops must be out of Iraq by the end of this month after Washington and Baghdad failed to agree on terms under which they could remain. There were about 5,500 American troops in Iraq as of Tuesday, the most recent day American officials in Iraq gave CNN figures. Do you really think it’s over? And if so, what do you think we’ve accomplished over the last 8 1/2 years?

It’s difficult to determine who was the big winner at the 2011 American Music Awards. Taylor Swift did take home three trophies, including Artist of the Year. But Selena Gomez arrived at the event with Justin Bieber as her date. Should we call it a tie? Either way, Swift and Gomez – good friend who sat next to each other during the ceremony – are going head-to-head in this Fashion Face-Off, as both stars walked the red carpet and both looked very pretty. But who looked the prettiest ? That’s the questions, folks. Decide now:
Adam Lambert and Justin Bieber both got their seriously dapper fashion on at last night’s American Music Awards in Los Angeles. Both singers dressed to the proverbial nines, with the former American Idol runner-up donning a three-piece suit and the 17-year old sensation going with a black tuxedo (a stark contrast to his white ensemble during this event performance ). Because neither Adam nor Justin walked away with any hardware from the ceremony, this is your chance to reward one of the artists with an honor. Study their fashion choices below and vote now. Bieber’s’s girlfriend, meanwhile, also finds herself caught up in a Fashion Face-Off. Choose between Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift HERE .
Guess Ricky Gervais was not ” totally unacceptable ” as 2011 Golden Globes host after all. Following a controversial stint MCing the ceremony in January – relive his best jokes HERE – the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has confirmed that the creator of The Office will return to the stage in a couple months. “I mustn’t come out there as everyone’s mate and schmooze. That’s nauseating,” Gervais said following this year’s gig. “I’m sorry if [people] were offended but I’m not sorry for anything I said. They hired me for a job and if they didn’t want me, they shouldn’t have hired me.” The 2012 Golden Globes will air on NBC on January 15. Are you excited for Gervais to host again?
Looks like Superhead wasn’t the only one who bagged a man who doesn’t care that the whole world knows who’s seen her lady parts. TMZ reports someone made an honest woman out of Rachel U-Can-Tell-I’m-A-Ho this weekend too. Rachel Uchitel and boyfriend Matt Hahn got married impulsively Sunday, after attending the wedding of one of their friends. We broke the story about the marriage, and now we know the details. Rachel and Matt went to the marriage bureau at the courthouse on Sunday to get a marriage license, then went to the legendary Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, where Bruce Willis married Demi Moore, and Britney Spears married whatshisname. At 11 PM Sunday, Rachel, Matt and 12 friends danced into the chapel to the song, “Single Ladies.” After the ceremony, they danced out of the chapel to the song, “That’s What You Get for Waking Up in Vegas.” They didn’t party afterwards. Rachel and Matt went back to her grandmother’s house at midnight, where they were staying. No, seriously. Is today the international month of redemption for women with questionable pasts or something? Because we know more than a few people who might be interested in that kind of information.
