Cory Monteith Death: What Will Glee Do?

Following the tragic death of Cory Monteith , it may not be important in the grand scheme of things – but it’s something Fox will need to consider: How will Glee Season 5 handle the passing of a central cast member? It’s not unprecedented for programs to deal with the loss of an actor or actress. The West Wing gave John Spencer’s Leo a heart attack. Just last year, Dallas wrote in a funeral for J.R. Ewing after Larry Hagman died. So… in which direction will Glee go? Will it make a mere, quick mention of Finn going far away for some reason? Will it actually kill the character off? What SHOULD it do? Weigh in now with your take on how Glee should deal with Monteith’s death: Kill off Finn Write Finn out Recast the role I don’t know View Poll »

World War Z Review: A Cure for the Common Blockbuster

World War Z stands out from standard Summer blockbuster fare in that it doesn’t simply jump from set piece to set piece in the hopes that the audience will forget what a story is. That’s not to say World War Z has a tremendously compelling story, but it does have the right elements to make it a successful Summer flick: high stakes, clearly outlined objectives, and an awareness of its own flashy destruction. Despite what it may have seemed from the trailer, scores of people don’t die in World War Z simply because it looks cool. They die because the story requires that they die. Compare that with your Star Trek Into Darkness es and your Man of Steel s , and this film is already ahead. The (somewhat controversial, if you’ve been following the production’s history) ending furthers that point, in a way that I actually find quite refreshing given the mass, unaddressed destruction that seems to be a requisite part of every action movie of late. But, let’s start with the opening. The opening set piece is actually exceptionally suspenseful and thrilling. Even if you enter the theater with some knowledge of the story, it is hard not to find yourself tossed directly into the confusion and mass hysteria surrounding the story’s incitement. We see Brad Pitt’s Gerry Lane as a man who knows how to take care of his family, and who can navigate any stressful situation with ease. This ultimately becomes a detriment, however, as Lane seems to be sleep-walking through the most important job any man has ever held in the history of humanity (which also makes us wonder: why him? Is he really the absolute best man for this job?). Lane is a former U.N. employee who, after being rescued with his family from the quickly-spreading disease in Newark, is tasked with scouring the earth seeking a cure for a zombie outbreak that is quickly overtaking the entire planet. As part of his charge, he must leave his wife and children, and a boy they picked up along the way, behind on a military aircraft carrier acting as a safe haven. Lane refuses to go, until it is explained to him that if he makes himself unessential, his family will have to leave the ship. While this is a fine back-story for the character, it ultimately feels tacked on as a last-ditch effort to allow the audience connect to Lane. He is very quiet, very inconspicuous, very calculated, for the hero of a horror/thriller. After traveling to two cities deemed important in the collection of information, Lane is no closer to finding a cure. Only while fleeing Jerusalem does he get an idea. Lane’s proposed solution is interesting, but it doesn’t feel exactly like a puzzle that the audience was allowed to solve along with the character. This only adds to the disappointingly introspective nature of our hero. All that said, though, World War Z is full of thrills and suspense. It doesn’t try too hard to be deep, and at the same time it doesn’t throw away all sense of plot in favor of shoving explosions down your throat. It is clean in its choices. Whereas most modern blockbusters get bogged down in overcomplicated plotlines, World War Z is decidedly simple. And that makes it easier to sit back and enjoy. None of the performances were particularly noteworthy, but that should be expected from a film of this caliber. For a suspenseful, thrilling movie-going experience with its share of jumps, World War Z will do just fine. RATING: 3.5/5

Drake Denied Entry to Miami Heat Locker Room, Parties With Team Later at Club

Drake was denied entry to the Miami Heat locker room yesterday evening in amusing fashion, but made up for the slight later by partying with the team. The Heat finished off the visiting San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 Thursday, then polished off MANY bottles of champagne late into the South Beach night. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and company hit Story nightclub in Miami, partying until 5:30 this morning with Pat Riley, Gabrielle Union and yes, Drake : Drake Parties With LeBron Miami Heat Drake is famously tight with LeBron James, as the above clip shows, but even that wasn’t enough to get him into the locker room right after the win. Arena security negged the rapper as he attempted to come congratulate his boys, telling him “This is media, pure media.” Drake’s reply? “I am media.” LOL. Britney Spears to Miley Cyrus: Teach Me to Twerk!

Britney Spears is a fan of Miley Cyrus Twerking. So much so that she asked for lessons in that booty-shaking department after seeing the action in Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” music video this week! Britney Tweeted at Miley: “Loving your new video for #WeCantStop @MileyCyrus! Maybe you can teach me how to twerk sometime LOL 😉 xo” Miley’s apparently game, replying: “We could twerk it out in exchange for u teaching me da moves 2 “slave for you” (I’ve been practicing for the past 10 years).” Please, please let there be cameras rolling for that get-together. From every conceivable angle. That must be documented and preserved for all time. Spears, who Tweeted her love for “We Can’t Stop” even before there was a video featuring Miley Cyrus Twerking , is no slouch in that area herself. Follow the jump to see what we mean …

Charlie Sheen: In Love With Selma Blair?

The sudden firing of Selma Blair from Charlie Sheen‘s Anger Management has prompted a lot of speculation regarding why she was shown the door. Rumors indicated that Blair complained to colleagues behind Sheen’s back about his work ethic, but a new report says it was more complicated than that. According to Radar , Blair’s complaints about Charlie were to someone outside of the show, and a chain of gossip brought the information back to Sheen. That led to Charlie getting Selma Blair fired , a decision made in part because he was “incredibly attracted” to his co-star, which made him feel betrayed. “He loved her,” a source familiar with their relationship said. “They grew very close. When it came time to cast for his new show he wanted her.” “He was crazy about her. Call it lust at the very least .” “As the show began Sheen was still highly attracted to Selma. Call it flirtatious or whatever you want, but his feelings were obvious. He thought there was chemistry.” But Sheen and Blair had mutual friends and one of those friends sabotaged her with him, after she allegedly talked smack, leading to his outburst. “Charlie has reverted to his usual behavior on the set,” the source revealed. “He is late, sometimes he is hours late. The whole cast is bothered by it.” “There have even been times when he sits in the car for approximately an hour outside of the studio making everyone wait, just because he can.” Blair was upset and so were other people on the show, but, the source insists, she did NOT complain to execs or anyone associated with the show. “You don’t talk behind someone’s back when you work with them. With Charlie if you have an issue, you go directly to him,” the source said. Blair, however, complained about the star to a close friend and divulged details of his behavior, which got back to him, and Charlie Sheen was enraged . “Charlie was furious when it got back to him,” the source said. “It didn’t happen all at once. When he first heard about it, things changed on the show.” “Suddenly his character was no longer sleeping with her character.” Call it art imitating life.
