Madonna’s Daughter’s Role In ‘W.E.’ Is Revealed

Lourdes plays ‘a super-cute, younger version of my character,’ co-star Abbie Cornish tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Abbie Cornish Photo: MTV News Madonna wrapped production on “W.E.,” her second directorial effort, in October, and now reports are suggesting she’s looking to premiere the movie at the Venice Film Festival, which takes place from August 31 to September 10. The film’s co-star, Abbie Cornish, not only confirmed the possibility of a Venice debut to MTV News, but also revealed the mysterious role Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes, will be playing. “I heard yesterday,” Cornish told us about Venice, while promoting her upcoming thriller, “Limitless.” “That’d be amazing.” “W.E” follows a “Julie & Julia”-esque dual story line, one featuring Cornish as a contemporary woman obsessed with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and another focusing on the royal couple itself. News that Lourdes would appear in a small role surfaced last fall, when photos of the teen in a schoolgirl’s uniform popped up online, but until now the nature of her part was unclear. Cornish’s character, it turns out, has a deep connection to that of Lourdes. “She actually plays a younger version of my character,” Cornish said, adding that because they portray the same person, they never got to share actual screen time. “She’s a super-cute, younger version of my character.” “W.E.” marks Madonna’s second feature following “Filth and Wisdom,” which hit only a handful of theaters in 2008. The new project, the pop star turned filmmaker said last year, has been an obsession of hers even before “Filth and Wisdom” and took her two-and-a-half years to write. “I made ‘Filth and Wisdom’ because I realized that I didn’t really have a right to make a bigger film until I made a smaller film — and learned how to make a film,” she said. According to Cornish, though, the Queen of Pop is a born filmmaker. “Madonna is a natural director,” the actress told us. “It’s in her nature. She’s a Leo and she really represents the Leos very well. She’s a very smart woman, very well read. She really absorbs a lot about whatever she’s involved in. I think she really loves learning. It was interesting to see her evolve throughout the filmmaking process. She’s such a cool woman.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Beastly’ Star Vanessa Hudgens Talks Falling For Bad Boys

‘A lot of girls look up to guys who embody that,’ she tells MTV News of her character’s questionable taste in guys. By Kara Warner Photo: CBS Films As we’ve learned from promos and teaser trailers for “Beastly,” the movie is a modern take on the classic fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast.” Co-starring Vanessa Hudgens and “I Am Number Four” leading man Alex Pettyfer , the basic premise is the same, but there’s a key difference in this long-delayed adaptation. In “Beastly,” Hudgens’ character, Lindy, is a high-schooler operating on the outskirts of the cool crowd when she develops an attraction to Pettyfer’s bad boy, Kyle, who has yet to have his movie-star looks marred by any spells. When MTV News caught up with the “High School Musical” star recently, we asked what she thought about her character’s attraction to the proverbial bad boy. “I feel like a lot of girls think it’s easier to go under the radar, to not really stand up and let their true selves be known,” Hudgens explained about Lindy’s desire to stay in the background. “And I feel like when that happens, a lot of girls look up to guys who embody that, who are just truly out there and, of course, my character falls for that, as a lot of other girls would,” she said. Hudgens went on to say that while the “opposites attract” idea initially draws Lindy to the school’s most popular guy, she senses that there’s more to him and eventually connects to Kyle’s softer side. “Slowly, she falls in love with him, not for his appearance, which I think is the most beautiful part of it,” she said. “Beastly” hits theaters on Friday. Superman’s Sexy Sidekicks: The Naked Ladies Who Played Lois Lane, Lana Lang & More

The comics community lost an icon this week when Joanne Siegel, the wife of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, died at 93. An artist’s model in the 1930s, Joanne must have given Jerry some major up, up, and away, since he used her as the original model for ravishing raven-haired reporter Lois Lane. Joanne embraced her role as First Lady of Superman, and played a major role in returning the rights to the character to the Siegel family after Jerry’s death (he famously sold the rights to Superman to Detective Comics for $130 in 1937). As a tribute to this grande dame of do-goodery, Mr. Skin has thrown out his magic lasso for a randy roundup of the mellifluous mamas of Metropolis. Will the super-vixens of Superman shed their spandex for Mr. Skin? Or will the dreaded Dr. Decency win the day? Find out after the jump!

justin bieber shot to death On Episode Of ‘CSi

Justin Bieber returned to CSI last night as vengeful teenager Jason McCann and went out in a blaze of glory, by which I mean bullets blazed through him gloriously. (It wasn’t one of the twenty deaths we guessed for him, but it sure looked crazy.) Technically, Bieber was the episode’s “villain,” but if you think about it, his character was just a free spirit, a kid trying to be a kid, a rebel without a cause. we adore a Internet. While this is usually a shave from CSI, as well as it’s essentially a impression Justin Bieber played I’ve long thought Justin Bieber cannot sing to save his life. Turns out he can’t act to save his life either. Literally. Just watch the way he reacts to being shot a dozen times. He looks as if he’s having a fit However, he was only shot on the television series, which means the character he played will likely not be returning to the series in the future. The episode involved Bieber being shot and murdered, effectively killing off his character. Talking to MTV about the role, he spoiled the episode by admitting that he was killed off in the episode: “Yeah, I get killed in the episode. I definitely get murdered,” Bieber told MTV. He added, “It was really cool because I actually — I get shot, like, several times. I fall down, and there’s fake blood and everything. It’s crazy how the whole process is.

‘I Am Number Four’ Star Teresa Palmer Talks Aliens, Explosions

Palmer tells MTV News how she gave her alien title character equal mix of sex appeal and swagger. By Kara Warner Teresa Palmer in “I Am Number Four” Photo: DreamWorks Yes, Hollywood actresses can rely on teams of stylists, makeup artists and lighting technicians to keep them looking glamorous onscreen. But even offscreen, these starlets always seem so put-together. How do they do it? MTV News set out to find some answers when we caught up with rising star Teresa Palmer, who has two films on the way, this week’s alien adventure “I Am Number Four” and next month’s “Take Me Home Tonight.” In “I Am Number Four,” Palmer plays the very kick-ass, smoldering alien warrior Number Six. Palmer’s character, along with Number Four (Alex Pettyfer) , are two of nine extraordinarily gifted aliens sent to earth from their dying planet, Lorien. Unfortunately the evil beings that destroyed Lorien, called Mogodorians, have come to earth to hunt them. In the film, Palmer has a series of intense battle sequences and, one in particular, involves her character walking away from a house she’s just set on fire, as it explodes behind her. We asked Palmer about the technicalities of filming that scene and, more important, how she managed to look so calm, cool and sexy while doing it. “There was a real explosion,” Palmer revealed. “How we did it was I walked out of a house, and had to do this sort of sexy swagger as I walked out,” she recalled. “I did like a hair flip, had my aviator sunglasses on, and then there would be two guys running behind me with a big green screen running and putting it in. And then we’d call cut and we’d move away and then they’d blow up the house,” she said. “Then they composited it together so it looked like I was walking away from the fire.” Movie magic at work! We also wondered whether the Aussie actress had channeled anyone or listened to any particular songs to pull off that swagger. “Not really for that walk in particular. I mean, that was very difficult compared to how it looks onscreen,” she admitted. “I had to do that about 12 times because I’m walking in these really high combat boots, and I’m walking on sand and I’m trying to make it look sexy and do the whole like head thing and sunglasses, and they kept falling down,” she explained. “Then I would fall over, so it just wasn’t fluid at all! I think that was the only usable take that they got, [the one] in the movie.” Palmer added that she did use music to get into Number Four’s combat mood. “In terms of getting into my character, I would listen to a lot of underground rap and hip-hop like Masta Ace, Mobb Deep. Very badass stuff,” Palmer said with a smile. Gleebasing: Where’s the Hate?

Tuesday night’s episode of Glee , “The Comeback,” was dedicated to anyone who ever suggested that Sue Sylvester — one of the most deliciously villainous characters on television — is too evil. Because I am not in that demographic, I will address last night’s treatment of Sue Sylvester — from the fake suicide note to the pediatric cancer ward sing-along — like the affront to her character that it was. Who’s ready?

‘Gnomeo And Juliet’ Stars Talk ‘Overacting’ For Animated Flick

‘You have to emanate every kind of sound you can ever muster up,’ Emily Blunt tells MTV News. By Kara Warner James McAvoy and Emily Blunt Photo: MTV News From the outside looking in, the world of voice acting holds an allure that seems glamorous in a different way than traditional acting. There’s no wardrobe to fit, no hair and makeup to arrange, no far-off location to travel to, and so forth. All an actor has to do is show up and speak into a microphone. According to the lead voices behind “Gnomeo and Juliet” (an animated take on Shakespeare’s classic), James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, there are indeed a few benefits. But it’s definitely not as basic as some might think. MTV News recently spoke to Blunt and McAvoy, who told us effective voice work requires a few tricks. “I feel like you have to overact the entire time because you don’t realize how flat your voice sounds when it’s faceless and expressionless,” Blunt said. “So you actually have to over-enunciate and really leap around to add some kind of liveliness to the way you speak,” she explained. “It was interesting. We were told often to smile while we were talking because it actually lightens your voice up. It was interesting.” McAvoy added that you can actually hear the smile in the voice. “It was quite interesting. Even when the character is not supposed to be smiling, they’d like to hear the smile,” he said. Blunt also revealed that a few of her scenes were a bit embarrassing because she had to run in place in order to act out certain action sequences. “They need reactions from you falling on something or swinging or grabbing a hold of something,” she explained. “So that’s when you have to emanate every kind of sound you can ever muster up. It’s very strange.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Gnomeo and Juliet.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Justin Bieber Death on CSI? CSI Star Talks Killing Off Justin Bieber

A Justin Bieber death hoax may have been untrue, but sounds like CSI will be killing off Bieber’s character! Looks like Justin Bieber’s death is a done deal – his character, Jason McCann, I mean – according to CSI co-star George Eads. Justin Bieber’s CSI episode (his second) is set to air in February and Eads reveals, “He’s a cool kid. He’s in the eye of a hurricane and I think he handles himself really well … We had a lot of intense scenes together. We got along really well. I really respect the kid.” As for that whole killing off Bieber’s character thing, Eads shares, “One of my crew guys goes, ‘Man you’re going to split the country down the middle — half of them are going to hate you and half of them are going to love you.’ In the context of the story, he deserved it. I think in a way I was also at fault for killing Taylor Swift, too. Man, I’m going to have to stay away from a lot of people. Tell Miley Cyrus not to come on our show.”

Meet The New Superman: Henry Cavill

British actor known for ‘The Tudors’ was once attached to McG-helmed reboot. By Mawuse Ziegbe Henry Cavill Photo: Michael Loccisano/FilmMagic He’ll be flying into movie theaters in 2012, but who exactly is the newest Superman, Henry Cavill? The latest screen star to don the famed crimson cape has gained fame as a castmember of Showtime’s period romp “The Tudors,” and will hit the big screen in the upcoming Greek mythology epic “War of the Gods.” But before he was tapped to play the iconic superhero, he was super close to portraying everyone from Twilight’s Edward Cullen to James Bond to, ironically, Superman in another filmmaker’s vision of the superhero. He was up for Superman before British screen star Cavill has been making a name for himself stateside as Sir Charles Brandon on the saucy historical drama “The Tudors,” but he’s come close to portraying Superman before. MTV News caught up with Cavill back in 2009, and the then 25-year-old star told us he was set to zip through the sky as the Man of Steel in director McG’s (“Terminator Salvation”) take on the American icon. However, a shuffling of filmmakers resulted in Cavill getting dropped from the project, which eventually became the 2006 flick “Superman Returns.” “I was attached to the McG ‘Superman’ movie,” Cavill told MTV News “Then Bryan Singer came on and took the helm and he made his movie. “[The McG and Singer versions] were two different movies,” Cavill explained. “So it wasn’t so much of a sting because it was like, ‘Oh, I got [the role],’ and then the movie just didn’t happen.” He also reportedly missed out “Batman” … and “The Green Lantern” Cavill was rumored to be on the shortlist of leading men up to vanquish Gotham-area baddies in Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” franchise, a role which eventually went to fellow Brit Christian Bale. Ryan Reynolds also reportedly beat out Cavill for the “Green Lantern” series. He lost Edward Cullen to Robert Pattinson Thanks to RPattz, Cavill missed out on one of the biggest movie franchises in recent years, “Twilight,” even though he had some strong support in his corner. “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer once said that Cavill was her dream choice but Mother Nature thwarted the casting. “The only actor I’ve ever seen who I think could come close to pulling off Edward Cullen is Henry Cavill. Henry was Albert, the young son in ‘The Count of Monte Cristo.’ Can you see it? I know I can!” Meyer blogged in 2007. However, after some delays in development, Meyer conceded that Cavill had aged out of “Twilight” territory. “The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward.” “By the time the movie came around, I didn’t look right for the character,” Cavill explained to MTV News in 2009, adding, “No one even called me or my agent.” … And he was almost James Bond The actor also auditioned for the role of 007 in “Casino Royale,” but instead Daniel Craig knocked back shaken martinis and coolly took out henchmen as the world’s first blond Bond. He may not have played Bond but he does drive the character’s famed car In a 2009 interview with JustJared.com , Cavill opened up about his biggest splurge, which he said was an Aston Martin — the same sleek, high-end ride that’s been associated with Bond. “It was one of those things that just ended up happening, like, ‘Right, okay, just treat yourself,” he said. The star also dished that he enjoys video games like World of Warcraft and shows like “Dexter.” Related Photos Henry Cavill Imagined As The New Superman
