To the surprise of no one, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry were among the big winners in Nickelodeon’s 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles. More than 200 million votes were cast to honor the best in kids’ entertainment. The show featured a bevy of entertainers, a variety of comedic skits, enough shrieks to deafen the average person and a 7,600-gallon vat of slime. Justin Bieber Live – Kids Choice Awards Katy Perry won Favorite Female Singer, Justin Bieber took home Favorite Male Singer, and The Black Eyed Peas won Favorite Musical Group. Among those honored was Justin Timberlake, who accepted Nickelodeon’s “The Big Help Award” for his charitable work and philanthropy. Favorite Movie Actor and Movie Actress? Johnny Depp and Miley Cyrus . This is the last time those two will be mentioned in the same breath. Other winners in the TV field included iCarly, American Idol , SpongeBob SquarePants, Dylan Sprouse and Selena Gomez. Congrats to all!
Despite the fact that our country and theirs just spearheaded another war, the upcoming British Royal Wedding we can’t imagine too many people really caring about keeps getting headlines. And here’s one that’s actually kinda cool and overflowing with “positivity.” According to Reuters, Prince William and fiancee Kate (or Catherine, as she prefers) Middleton have set up the Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund, asking well-wishers to donate money to charities they care about instead of gifts. The couple have chosen five causes — Changing Lives through Arts and Sport; Children Fulfilling Their Potential; Help and Care at Home; Support for Service Personnel and Their Families; and Conservation for Future Generations — and 26 charities that fall into one of these categories to receive a portion of the funds raised. Since there are so many charities to choose from, the couple aimed to select charities that are not as well-known but doing important work in line with their passions, the fund’s website explains: “These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives so far.” Several of the charities are based in Canada, Australia and New Zealand where William has focused some of his charitable efforts over the years. The only U.S.-based group selected is PeacePlayers International’s program in Northern Ireland, which was founded ten years ago by Washington residents Brendan and Sean Touhey to get kids together in conflict-torn areas through basketball. In related royal wedding charitable news, Kate Middleton’s infamous see-through dress she wore at a charitable fashion show in college, which reportedly first caught the eye of her prince, sold for more than $125,000 at auction to an unnamed buyer. Sean Hannity on his radio program Wednesday wished NewsBusters a Happy 5th Anniversary. As he talked to a caller about his Freedom Alliance, he thanked NewsBusters for helping to debunk smears against him and his charitable organization. Moments later, he expressed his gratitude for NewsBusters’ efforts in “challenging the mainstream Obama-mania media” (audio embedded below the fold): SEAN HANNITY: By the way, thanks to NewsBusters and Erick Erickson at RedState, my buddy. I mean, they’ve gone there. As liberals, they even attack fundraising for the military with distortion and lies.
