Two of the 19-year-old actor’s co-stars have lined up separate “Snow White” projects — Kristen Stewart in Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” and Lily Collins in Relativity Media’s “Snow White” — a casting quirk that had Lautner saying in a recent interview with MTV News, “It’s crazy!” So which project (and which actress) has Lautner’s allegiance? Unsurprisingly, both his “Twilight” co-star and his “Abduction” leading lady. “I’m lucky, because they’re completely different Snow Whites, so I feel like I don’t have to choose one,” he said. “They’re completely different stories, and the Snow Whites themselves are totally different.” Lautner’s not kidding. Collins’ version, co-starring Julia Roberts as the evil queen, will be directed by Tarsem Singh , who described his vision to us thusly: “It’s actually like if you looked at Gaudi’s architecture, based in England, done like a turn-of-the-century Russian film by an Indian guy.” Stewart’s project, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” stars Charlize Theron as the evil queen and is said to focus more heavily on action and to tweak the familiar tale so Snow White is on the run and protected by the Huntsman. Both flicks are slated to hit theaters next year. Meanwhile, Collins has also signed on to star in an adaptation of “City of Bones,” the first book in the best-selling young-adult series “The Mortal Instruments.” Lautner certainly has some experience with bringing wildly popular novels to the big screen, but he said there’s not much advice he can give her — because, as he told us, she doesn’t need any. “I don’t know if I need to give her advice,” Lautner said. “She’s going to be able to handle it just fine. I’m very excited.” While he may not dole out any tips, Collins learned a ton from Lautner during the “Abduction” shoot. “I would watch the way he deals with his fans. It’s incredible,” she told us in January. “We’d be shooting at nights where we finish at 7 in the morning, and one night, we had 600 fans in the middle of nowhere in Pittsburgh waiting outside, and it was probably almost 5 in the morning, and he went out and signed every single autograph. ‘KStew is officially playing Snow White and her deal…will close next week,’ producer tweets. The 20-year-old “Twilight” actress has been officially named the fairest of them all in the revisionist fairy tale “Snow White and the Huntsman,” according to producer Palek Patel’s Twitter page . The confirmation ends weeks of speculation after news leaked in January that Stewart was being targeted for the role of Snow White . “KStew is officially playing Snow White and her deal is in final negotiations and will close next week,” Patel wrote in response to fan aurastew on Twitter. “Official confirmation coming next week,” Patel tweeted shortly after. “But we are in final negotiations.” Both tweets were removed from Patel’s Twitter page, but not before fans captured screen grabs of the revealing items. Based on the legendary fairy tale, “Snow White and the Hunstman” follows the titular princess after the evil queen Ravenna calls for her death, centering on the huntsman who disobeys orders and allows the fair maiden to live. The updated story will break from convention by having the huntsman mentor and train Snow White to fight off Ravenna herself. Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron are deep in negotiations for the roles of the huntsman and the evil queen, respectively. For Stewart, “Snow White and the Huntsman” will mark an immediate return to tentpole filmmaking after “On the Road,” based on the iconic Jack Kerouac novel of the same name, drops later this year. The folks at Rotten Tomatoes have tabulated their annual Best of the Best list, inserting Tom Hooper’s 2011 Best Picture winner The King’s Speech into the annals of Oscar history. But comparing great films to other great films has always been something of an apples to oranges situation; how can you measure, say, The Godfather Part II against An American in Paris — two very different films that occupy adjoining slots on the list and have the same Tomatometer ranking (98 percent)? With a carefully calculated algorithm, that’s how! Still… why does The King’s Speech not quite feel right sitting so high above other bona fide classics?
