We hate to say it, but compared to the Kardashian Khristmas Kard and other celebrity efforts, Paris Hilton’s attempt to be sexy and/or glam is kinda weak. Was last week’s tabloid report about Britney Spears being abused by her boyfriend a creation of someone in the star’s camp as a means of generating buzz? Probably not, but stranger things have happened. To be clear, we’re not saying Britney Spears or Jason Trawick was in on it, or that anyone was for that matter. But it’s a bit coincidental how it played out. The timing and details of this story? Awfully strange . Flash back to last week. Star reported that Britney phoned her ex, Jason Alexander, confessing that Trawick attacked her. Radar then posted the audio. Spears’ camp decried the rumor, analysts declared the tape bogus, and Brit Tweeted that everyone involved can “kiss my lily white southern Louisiana ass!” Then came this interesting Tweeted tidbit, too: “I’m almost done with my new album and it will be coming out this March. I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!” While it seems crazy to think Britney Spears would need fabricated gossip to get people talking about her new release, this is manager Larry Rudolph’s M.O. The puppet master is famous for planting stories – typically about who Britney’s dating – and micromanaging all aspects of his client’s visibility and image. Can we see Rudolph, Alexander and Star all going in on this together, leaving Spears and Trawick in the dark? Absolutely … think about it, all parties win. Painting her as a sympathetic victim, then handing the floor over to Spears herself for a defiant denial and a casual announcement of the new record? Stranger things have happened, just saying.

The Tiger Woods scandal is getting the Law & Order treatment. It’s embellished and technically fiction, but NBC clearly stole this script from Woods. Its promo for Law & Order: L.A. even boasts “yeah, we’re going there.” A golf superstar, a harem of mistresses, a club-wielding scorned wife who “rescued” him, a 911 call … bring back memories of the Tiger- Elin Woods fight ? We caught up with him at the World Leadership Awards earlier this month in Atlanta, and he gave us a glimpse into his busy schedule. “If it’s not philanthropy, it’s music,” he said at the event for his New Look Foundation, which just raised $150,000 for a mobile clinic that will go to Haiti. “If it’s not music, it’s making sure I got the kids and dropping them off. I’m like super dad right now. The tour is the next step. May do a little acting. I’m definitely in the process of producing a few things, but it’s staying busy. If it’s not fragrance, then it’s lifestyle. If it’s cars — I mean owning, not just driving — it’s a little bit of everything.” As far as his music goes, his latest song, the Jay-Z-featuring “Hot Tottie,” is in heavy radio rotation. The record — whose name is a variation on a hot toddy mixed drink — is just a taste of the heat Usher has to offer on his upcoming EP, Versus. “In terms of ‘Hot Tottie,’ it’s another incredible record that’s gonna be part of the re-release of Raymond v. Raymond [called] Versus, ” he said. “There’s a few more. You guys check it out. Videos, we’re in the process of working on that as well.” Versus is slated to drop Tuesday.
