America’s Got Talent is welcoming another Brit on board. With Sharon Osbourne quitting at the end of last season, the NBC series has announced that Melanie Brown will be taking over her seat this summer alongside Howard Stern and Howie Mandel. “I’ve known Melanie since she did Dancing with the Stars , and I’ve known her as a performer in The Spice Girls before that,” said NBC president of alternative Paul Telegdy. He added: “To know her is to know a very frank, strong, enduring entertainer. Someone who has a very strong point of view. We needed somebody who was qualified for the job. She’s an amazing singer, dancer and a huge personality. The contestants will get a lot of constructive feedback from her and I can’t wait to see her chemistry with Howard and Howie.” Will Brown make a good America’s Got Talent judge? Yes, I love her! No, terrible choice! It’s possible View Poll »
The Bachelor axe fell on Sarah Herron this week, as Sean Lowe didn’t even wait until the rose ceremony to send her on her way after a group date. Needless to say, she was taken by surprise. “I didn’t expect to go home. I was caught off guard,” she said. “I had every intention of taking him home to Colorado and introducing him to my family.” Was it the baby photos that backfired? “I don’t think that it would have changed Sean’s mind whether I showed him the photos on night one or in the fantasy suite,” Herron tells People . “He knew how he felt about me and the others, [however] the photos probably made him realize he needed to be honest sooner rather than later.” Did the first-date curse rear its ugly head? “Getting the first one-on-one date – as magical as it was – was a curse,” she said. “We had an amazing connection right off the bat and then I had to sit back.” “I had to wait for him to develop relationships with the other women … It became more and more difficult to sustain a connection. Feelings fizzle” “It was very sad and confusing … I had very strong feelings for Sean. It’s human nature to feel embarrassed when you’re dumped on television.” “I’m not mad at Sean. I respect that he didn’t string me along. We all know he is looking for his wife and can’t blame him for not feeling it with me.” As for who’s best for Lowe going forward? The Bachelor spoilers have a lot to say about that. What about Sarah, who knows the women fairly well? “I’m starting to see the chemistry between Sean and [ Catherine Giudici ],” she says. “She was a bit of a dark horse. She’s a down-to-earth, real girl so it warms my heart to see the undeniable special connection between them.” “I always saw his connection with Lesley. Lindsay is a tiny ball of fun. AshLee has the biggest heart, but she’s not a goofball like I think Sean is looking for.” “Desiree is spunky and very real.” That about covers everybody left … well, with one exception. Tierra LiCausi ? She’s not feeling the love between Sean and this season’s villain. “I don’t see them being much of a match at all. I think he’s probably very surprised watching [the show] because I don’t think he saw what we did.”
At yesterday’s Presidential Inauguration, Beyonce sang an incredible version of the national anthem. It gave attendees chills and lit up the Internet within minutes of its completion. But now comes word that may tarnish the performance in the eyes of many: the artist did NOT perform live. Beyonce – Inauguration National Anthem “All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day,” Kristin DuBois, a rep for the United States Marine Band tells Page Six , adding: “We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the (sic) reason why.” It’s not unusual, of course, for singers to take this route. But considering the emotional resonance of the performance, we must ask: Do you think less of Beyonce for lip-syncing the national anthem? Yes, I was duped! No, she still sang it herself, right?!? Lesley Murphy may have set a world record with Sean Lowe on The Bachelor last night, but the week truly belonged to AshLee Frazier. There were plenty of losers Monday night. AshLee Frazier was the opposite, grabbing Sean’s attention with her good looks – and back story. “There was something different about her that really made me take notice and I knew I wanted to spend more time with her,” says Sean in his blog . Sean says that he knew Ash would “share that compassion” he feels with Brianna and Emily, “the two girls who both suffer from chronic illnesses.” “I’m involved with two pediatric cancer foundations back home in Dallas, 1 Million 4 Anna and Micaela’s Army, and so this date pulled at my heartstrings.” “The day with Ashlee and the girls at Six Flags was incredible! We had so much fun and I took the most joy from watching how happy Emily and Brianna were.” “Their smiles made my heart melt.” Later, he says, Sean and AshLee “had time alone we needed to talk and really connect. She told me the story of her childhood and about the abuse she suffered.” “I don’t usually cry, but hearing her describe the day she met her father and how he told her he would love her forever brought me to tears.” “It was at that point that I understood where AshLee’s compassion comes from and I had a whole new appreciation for the person that she is.” “We finished the night dancing in front of one of my favorite bands, the Eli Young Band, and ended the evening with a very, very romantic kiss.” “AshLee quickly became a frontrunner and I knew I could fall in love with her.” As for that Guinness Record date with Lesley Murphy? “She was the perfect choice because I felt so comfortable around her from the beginning,” says Sean. “Women like Lesley are hard to find.” “She is not just sexy, smart and funny, but she’s also really easy to be around. I felt like I had known Lesley for years and it had only been two weeks.” “I thought kissing for more than three minutes would be awkward, especially since it took place on Hollywood Boulevard and in front of a crowd of people.” “But it wasn’t really. Time flew by and it was much more passionate than I thought it would be. I think that speaks to the chemistry we share.” Not everything went so smoothly last night, however. “I had no idea that there was any drama occurring between Amanda and Des, so I was surprised to hear Kacie bring it to my attention,” says Sean. “If I seemed frustrated when talking to Kacie, it’s because I was!” “I had a hard time understanding why Kacie decided to involve herself. After all, neither Amanda nor Des felt like they needed to say something.” “So why did Kacie? I felt like if anyone in the house should grasp the big picture, it was Kacie, yet she wasn’t. At the end of the night, it only felt right to give the rose to Lindsay.” Kacie was sent home as a result, while Lesley and AshLee remain in the hunt. Reggie Bush offended many women in New York State – Miss Buffalo Lonna McCary included – with a comment he made yesterday. The background: Bush’s Miami Dolphins play the Buffalo Bills tonight on the Bills’ home turf, with temps in the mid-to-upper 30s. That’s actually warm for Buffalo in November, prompting The Paul and Young Ron radio show hosts to ponder if any fans will go topless. “You don’t want to see that,” said one host. “No. God, no.” Bush, who’s expecting his first child with Lilit Avagyan , agreed. “No, not Buffalo women,” he said. Upon hearing this, Lonna McCary, the current Miss Buffalo, fired back : “These people who write disparaging remarks about Buffalo obviously haven’t spent enough time here to pass judgment,” she told Yahoo Sports. “Buffalo was once one of the most prosperous cities on the East Coast. Like them or not, the Buffalo Bills attended four straight Super Bowls in a row.” “I believe the negative attitude players who come to Buffalo have is half the reason we have suffered this long playoff drought.” “Yeah, it’s cold here, but get over it,” added the pride of Western New York. “You’re living millions of kids’ dreams, so get out there and play.” Former Heisman winner and Kim Kardashian boy toy Bush made light of the backlash on Twitter, claiming his words were twisted. “Lol it was a joke! GET IT! No? Nobody? Ok Crickets………..” “I love how people try to twist up my words lol! Whatever helps you sleep better at night. Now all of a sudden I’m bashing women in Buffalo? Lol! Ok if you say so…” One woman tweeted “thanks to your comments, we’re all going topless to the game tomorrow.” The NFL star retweeted that, adding, “Mission accomplished!” What if that really was his plan all along? Diabolically well played, Reg.

Research on the street drug known as “bath salts” has uncovered some disturbing findings… via UK Daily Mail : As lethal bath salts continue to take young lives, researchers have discovered the shocking strength of a key ingredient that leaves users struggling with the after effects for days. MDPV, commonly found in the street drug is ten times stronger than “yayo”, according to the National Science Foundation. It causes users to become paranoid, violent and agitated, at times leading to hallucinations. But unlike with other drugs, such as “yayo” or “molly,” doctors are noticing a worrying trend of people suffering these symptoms for days after snorting the legal high. ‘They’re selling time bombs,’ Louisiana Poison Control Center Director Dr. Mark Ryan told ABC News. ‘We’ve had some people show up who are complaining of chest pains so severe that they think they’re having a heart attack. They think they’re dying. They have extreme paranoia. They’re having hallucinations. They see things, they hear things, monsters, demons, aliens.’ One such victim was 21-year-old Dickie Sanders. He suffered severe hallucinations after snorting a packet of bath salts, labelled ‘Cloud Nine’, became convinced he was being hunted by police and sliced at his throat with a kitchen knife. Saunders survived his horrific injuries, returning home with stitches and telling his mother: ‘I can’t handle what this drug has done to me. I’m never going to touch anything again.’ The side effects persisted, Saunders’ father ended up having to sleep beside him, holding his son in his arms and trying to comfort him. He eventually calmed and drifted off to sleep. But hours later, suddenly and without warning, Saunders left the protective arms of his father and in the midst of another psychotic episode shot himself with a rifle. As Saunders’ tragic became mirrored in more and more incidents across the country, Ryan compiled a database of every bath salts-related case in Louisiana, hit especially hard by the problem, and Kentucky. Ryan noticed that upon snorting the powder, labelled with names including Hurricane Charlie, NOLA Diamond and Bayou Ivory Flower, users all suffered repetitive psychotic episodes. ‘Some patients were in the hospital for 5 days, 10 days, 14 days,’ Ryan said. ‘In some cases, they were under heavy sedation. As you try to taper off the sedation, the paranoia came back and the delusions.’ ‘MDPV is irreversible, it won’t let go,’ his colleague Louise De Felice said. ‘I don’t know of any other drug that has that same feature of not allowing you to escape from it.’ Scientists ran tests to try to determine the drug’s chemistry, finding it to be laced with MDPV, ten times the potency of cocaine. The dangerous combination of the drug’s ingredients ‘flood the brain,’ they said, leading to repeated episodes of psychotic behaviour. In December the Louisiana Poison Centre received more than 110 calls about bath salts, compared with four in October and 24 in November. That trend was being mirrored all around the states. Drastic measures were taken early January to ban the five ingredients commonly found in bath salts products: MDPV and mephedrone, methylone, methedrone and flephedrone. What’s worrying is that drug makers have simply tweaked the formula, skirting around the law. ‘What [drugmakers] are looking for is the side effects,’ said Jimmy Guidry, Louisiana State Health officer. ‘They just have to change the chemistry, and they’ve got something that’s not on the list, and it’s not illegal. They continue to make it legal to have these horrible side effects.’ ‘It’s like that arcade game Whac-a-Mole,’ Ryan added. ‘Every time you think you’ve got a handle on it — boom — it pops up in three different places.’ We never planned on trying bath salts in the first place, but this information is even more disturbing than we imagined — there is a drug that people can’t come down from — the side effects of this isht is PERMANENT! It seems like users either end up killing themselves or others before it’s all said and done. That said — who is making this stuff? Clearly not your average neighborhood drug dealer… So how did something that was made in a lab get into the hands of all these people across the country? That’s what we really want to know!
TNT reboot’s manipulative double-crossers mix business and pleasure. By Kara Warner Jesse Metcalfe, Julie Gonzalo, Josh Henderson and Jordana Brewster on “Dallas” Photo: Hoo boy! How about these wheelin’, dealin’ and totally deceiving folks on “Dallas”? If Wednesday night’s new episode taught us anything, it’s that too many people in and around Southfork are a bunch of manipulative double-crossers. We’ve already touched on the TNT reboot’s new blood and the lingering questions we had after the first episode, so now it’s time to tackle episode two’s talking points: Elena Still Loves Christopher The last we heard about Christopher and Elena’s broken engagement was that it happened because of an email. Well, in this episode, we learn all about that email and that neither Christopher nor John Ross are responsible for sending it — or so they claim. The most emotionally charged revelation that comes from Elena’s frank discussion with John Ross about the subject is that she is still in love with Christopher. Not that she confesses her feelings outright, but it’s written all over her face when John Ross asks her if the only reason she got together with him in the first place was because of her heartbreak over Christopher. John Ross and J.R.: Wolves in Wolfskin Coats One minute, we see John Ross all worked up and emotional in learning Elena’s true feelings, and the next, he is getting all hot and heavy with alleged business partner/fellow Bobby Ewing conspirator Marta del Sol. Not to mention the dirty dealings and bribery he’s orchestrating with lawyer Mitch Lobell. And then there’s the patriarch, J.R. himself, who plays up his recent hospitalization for sympathy and pretends to have genuine feelings for his brother Bobby and ex-wife Sue Ellen. That old adage about not trusting a man as far as you can throw him is certainly apt with regard to John Ross and J.R. Ewing. Sheesh. Mixing Business With Pleasure Clearly, no one is concerned with the ramifications of mixing business and pleasure in this town. There’s the very obvious kind, as demonstrated by the hanky panky between John Ross and Marta, along with the subconscious kind, as exhibited by the professional agreement orchestrated by Christopher and Elena. Both practices will likely end in a bad way. We’ve already seen several levels of shady behavior from Marta, and can expect to see a sex tape/blackmail scandal somewhere in the very near future. And despite the innocent nature of Christopher and Elena’s partnership, their unfinished business will most definitely come to a head in an adulterous manner. Rebecca: A Good Girl Gone Bad? Well, well, well — it appears that the new Mrs. Christopher Ewing is not at all the innocent doting wife she appears to be and has a hidden agenda. Thanks to a heated conversation between the newlywed and her brother Tommy — who may or may not be her actual blood relative given the twists and turns we’ve already seen in this show — we now know that she and Tommy have been working on getting close to the Ewings and Southfork for two years, a plot that snake in the grass-esque Tommy refers to as a “job.” So, what kind of job are they doing? Our guess is trying to pull a con or coup of some sort. Will the Real Marta Del Sol Please Stand Up? Actually, we don’t need the real Marta to stand up, because we meet her in the final minutes of the episode! What a fun twist for us — and J.R.! Because he took the initiative to discuss the sale of Southfork to the del Sol conservancy with Mr. Carlos del Sol himself in Mexico, J.R. is presented with an unpleasant surprise: The real Marta del Sol lives with her father in Mexico, and he and his son have been dealing with a cunning and stealth imposter. Share your thoughts on the second episode of “Dallas” in the comments below!
Actress tells MTV News her romance with Steve Carell in ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’ is not really a romance at all. By Kevin P. Sullivan Keira Knightley in “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” Photo: The new Keira Knightley – Steve Carell film, ” Seeking a Friend for the End of the World ,” is not a traditional romance for a number of reasons — the main one being the meteor that is headed toward Earth and will likely end all life on the planet. The other, less cataclysmic way “Seeking a Friend” subverts your typical rom-com tropes is that the relationship at the center of the film isn’tat least according to Knightley a romantic one. It’s just about sex. Her character, Penny, and Carell’s character, Dodge, neighbors who have never spoken, only join forces when they’re left utterly alone as the world comes to an end. Eventually, their relationship becomes something more, but Knightley would argue not much more. “I don’t know that their romantic arc actually has much to do with romance in the beginning and has more to do with ‘It’s the end of the world, and we both want to have sex,’ ” she said. “I think that was sort of more what the romantic arc was hinged on, and then what it becomes is about friendship.” For such a complex on-screen relationship, chemistry between Carell and Knightley became all-the-more important, but the actress said that getting along with her co-star was never a problem. “As far as chemistry goes with Steve, he is one of the loveliest men in the entire world,” she said. “He is so funny, and so courteous to everyone. He is a consummate professional. He’s just a lovely, lovely man. I defy anybody not to have good chemistry with him.” Carell, who got his start as a comedian, once again shows off his dramatic chops in “Seeking a Friend,” and Knightley said he is not one of the funny men who have to be on all the time. “There are a lot of comics who are fabulous, but are relentlessly [telling] one joke after another, after another, which is completely fabulous, but when you’re working, it can be kind of tricky,” Knightley said. “Steve’s not like that. He is incredibly funny, but he’s funny in a way that makes everybody around him feel like they’re funny as well. He’s incredibly inclusive, but also, he’s a complete professional, so he’s about getting the best of everybody. If that means having a laugh and having a joke, that’s what happens. If that means giving everyone space, that’s what he means as well.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
