Lindsay Lohan Is A ‘Fragile Lost Child,’ Lawyer Says

Stuart Goldberg declined to take her case after meeting with Lohan over the weekend. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: Dave McNew/ Getty Images Even with a 90-day jail sentence and a 90-day bid in an inpatient rehab facility to follow, a lawyer who met with Lindsay Lohan over the weekend about possibly taking up her case said the actress still doesn’t appear to fully understand how serious her situation is. According to People magazine, Chicago attorney Stuart V. Goldberg met with Lohan, her mother Dina and younger sister Ali at Lohan’s West Hollywood apartment this week after the “Mean Girls” star was dropped by her former attorney , and he came away concerned that his potential client is living in a fantasy world. “My impression of Lindsay is that she’s a fragile lost child — a sleeping beauty with her head in the sand. I found her not fully forewarned of the consequence of her actions,” Goldberg reportedly told the magazine. “I’m concerned that she’s not disciplined or tethered enough to the reality of adult consequences. … She doesn’t seem to have the awareness of what’s going to befall her.” Criminal defense attorney Goldberg was contacted after Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, quit the case following the backlash against the 24-year-old actress’ actions and alleged comments following her sentencing, which included revelations that she had the phrase “f— u” stenciled on her middle fingernail during the court appearance. After explaining to the Lohans that his requirement for taking on Lindsay’s case was “100 percent loyalty and zero tolerance for dishonesty,” Goldberg said “they didn’t seem to understand the urgency and gravity of the situation.” Additionally, TMZ reported that unnamed insiders said Goldberg may have split because Lohan’s manager said they couldn’t afford to pay him, while a source in the actress’ camp said it was because of personality issues. Much as she did during her probation hearing last week, Goldberg said Lohan took copious notes in a notebook during their six-hour meeting, while sister Ali asked “astute” questions, but in the end he declined to take on the case. He said at one point he worried that Lohan might be in a “dangerous state” and asked the actress — who has struggled with addiction issues and spent time in several rehab facilities — if she had thought about hurting herself. “She started sobbing quietly. She was genuinely in pain,” Goldberg said, adding that Lohan was “like Teflon” to his comment that she should get out of the toxic environment of Los Angeles. “It just slid right off her. She seemed to have some inner deep sadness that that was her fate.” Related Photos Lindsay Lohan Goes To Court The Highs And Lows Of Lindsay Lohan Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

The Roots And John Legend’s Wake Up! Track List Revealed

Tracks from Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway will be covered on the upcoming album. By Mawuse Ziegbe The Roots and John Legend Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images The Roots and John Legend will revive a host of soulful songs on their upcoming collection of covers, Wake Up!, which is due in stores in September. The track list — which was revealed by Rap-Up.com on Monday (July 12) — includes 11 songs, and Chicago MC Common and Grammy-nominated songstress Melanie Fiona make appearances on the album. Wake Up! revisits songs such as “Little Ghetto Boy” by Donny Hathaway, “Wholy Holy” by Marvin Gaye and “Hard Times” by Baby Huey and the Babysitters. Although the album is a collection of vintage tracks, Legend said the timeless lyricism has a contemporary appeal. “These songs sound so relevant now,” Legend said in a statement. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric. ‘Wake Up Everybody’ (the album’s first single, featuring contributions from Melanie Fiona and Common) has four verses — the first one is a general statement, the second is about education, third is about health care, and the fourth is about making a better environment. No editing needed.” Roots drummer ?uestlove and Legend also recently spoke to MTV News about their cover of Ernie Hines’ “Our Generation” and its connection to a classic hip-hop track. ” ‘Straighten It Out’ [by] Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth was an important hip-hop record and it sampled ‘Our Generation,’ ” Legend said. On Wake Up! , Legend said he and the Philly collective strived to spotlight songs that could be incorporated into a hip-hop record. “A lot of what we did was try to bring songs that have been sampled or should be sampled or sample-able to make the album,” he said. Legend also said that another upside of working on the album with the group he has been following since college is having access to ?uest’s extensive musical knowledge. “He just knows a lot of great records,” Legend said. “When you’re thinking about putting an album together of songs that were performed [more than] 40 to 50 years ago, he’s one of the best people to talk about that with.” The Roots and John Legend’s “Wake Up!” track list, according to Rap-Up.com: 1. “Compared to What” 2. “Hard Times” 3. “Little Ghetto Boy” 4. “Wake Up Everybody” (featuring Common and Melanie Fiona) 5. “Our Generation” 6. “Love the Way It Should Be” 7. “Hang On in There” 8. “I Can’t Write Left Handed” 9. “Wholy Holy” 10. “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free” 11. “Shine” Are you looking forward to Legend and the Roots’ joint album? VIDEO: Michael Bay, Transformers 3 Commence Blowing Up Chicago

Washington, D.C., wouldn’t have them , but Chicago was more than happy to welcome Michael Bay and his Transformers 3 road show downtown in recent days. The residency has yielded a bounty of ruinous, explode-y riches for photographers and videographers alike, the bulk of which arrived online over the weekend at a few different spots. (There’s a great slideshow at the Chicago Tribune ‘s site, for starters.) But for both scope and sheer hilarity, only one amateur video — and its hard-charging star, Optimus Prime — really underscores what Bayhem means to the Windy City. It’s after the jump.

Tax Cut All-Star — CNBC’s Trish Regan: Calls It ‘Inherently Un-American’ to Penalize Prosperity

Throughout the last half-century, time and time again, a means to stimulate an ailing economy has occurred through tax cuts. Former Presidents John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush have proven economic relief is most effective through tax cuts – not government spending.  Still that method has detractors. However, CNBC “The Call” co-anchor Trish Regan, with a panel decidedly against her, made the case for tax cuts. On NBC’s July 11 broadcast of “The Chris Matthews Show,” Regan explained how tax cuts encourage businesses to help reverse the trend of high unemployment and that businessmen are worried about the end of the Bush tax cuts. “They absolutely are,” Regan said. “They’re concerned about it and this is one of the issues when it comes to hiring. They’re hesitant right now when it comes to bringing more employees on board because one, you’re not seeing final demand because consumers aren’t spending that much, and number two, they’re dealing with the tax consequences of having more people in their companies. So that’s definitely an issue.” Matthews followed up Regan’s response with a question to Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page. He asked would if “Democratic progressives” would be open to the idea of tax cuts, if it meant rescuing the economy and solidifying President Barack Obama’s chances for re-election in 2012. “Well, only if it hit those at the bottom,” Page said. “You should expand the earned income tax credit or give some kind of a job incentive. But I disagree that he ought to call off, well continue the Bush tax cut. That’s not going to win Democrat support.” However, as the Congressional Budget Office shows , upper-income taxpayers pay more than their fair share of taxes, over six times as much in terms of a percentage of household income overall. And Regan as explained, penalization through taxation is “inherently un-American” because it discourages aspiration. “Isn’t there something kind of inherently un-American about the more money you make, the more money we’re going to take from you?” Regan said. “I mean, even if you’re not making $250,000 a year as a couple, you may aspire to make that. The government’s going to take more.” Probably at this point, Matthews may have been wondering how someone with these views wound up booked on his shows. Regan’s remarks drew laughter and protest from “The Chris Matthews Show” panel. Nonetheless, Time magazine’s Joe Klein offered up his pro-taxation view – suggesting all conservatives want to abolish the income tax, which he deemed as “radical.” “It’s called the progressive income tax for a reason,” Klein said. “Now conservatives want to abolish the income tax. That is so radical.” But Regan fought back, explaining taxation discourages productivity which is essential to economic growth. “What I’m saying is, you don’t want to necessarily discourage productivity,” she said. “You want the country to grow and there are ways to do that through tax cuts whether it be through individuals or to businesses.” Klein attempted to use former President Bill Clinton’s 1993 tax hike as evidence higher taxes don’t necessarily discourage economic growth. And although there is significant evidence to dispute Klein’s point , Regan explained the economy was in a different place then as it is now. “He did it at a time when the economy was growing,” she said. “We’re in a very different situation right now.” Take away: Good thing Regan is anchoring a CNBC show and Klein is writing a column for a magazine with a dwindling circulation.

Where Will LeBron James Go? Silversun Pickups Drummer Has The Answer

‘It looks like he’s on his way to Miami, and who can blame him?’ Christopher Guanlao tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Lebron James Photo: Kelly Kline/ Getty Images Christopher Guanlao was “born and raised as a Lakers fan,” which means that, when he’s not playing drums for rock-radio mainstays Silversun Pickups , he’s also following the NBA pretty heavily. “A few weeks ago, we were playing a show in Orlando, and it was during Game 6 of the [NBA] Finals, and, as a Lakers fan, it was really frustrating, because I was only able to watch the first quarter,” Guanlao told MTV News on Thursday (July 8). “So I had my drum tech give me updates on the score in between songs. It was pretty intense, but luckily, the Lakers ended up winning.” And so, with the entire NBA seemingly focused on the future of superstar free-agent LeBron James — who will announce his choice of team Thursday night during an hour-long special on ESPN — we figured Guanlao was a pretty good guy to converse with about just where King James will end up. “It looks like he’s on his way to Miami, and who can blame him? If Miami’s willing to pay him, and [Chris] Bosh and [Dwyane] Wade are already there, it seems like a no-brainer,” Guanlao said. “For a while, I was thinking he might team up with [newly signed forward Carlos] Boozer in Chicago, but now I don’t know. And I think Cleveland might be out, because it seems like all the major free agents are gone. They haven’t made any big moves.” So, like much of the media, Guanlao predicts that James will break the hearts of Cleveland Cavaliers fans and bolt for the sunny climes of Miami. And even though he’s currently in London with the Pickups, he’s already making plans to watch James’ announcement — time zones be damned. “I’ve already discussed with some people that I have to watch it. And, it’s sort of amazing, because people are talking about it here. It’s basically just World Cup and ‘Where will LeBron sign?’ ” he laughed. “So, yeah, he’s making headlines all over the world. And I have to watch what happens.” And though, deep down, Guanlao wishes James would have re-signed with the Cavs (or even helped revive the fortunes of once-proud franchises like the Bulls and New York Knicks), he’s resigned himself to the fact that, next season, LBJ will more than likely be calling Miami home. And, as a Lakers fan, he’s already readying himself for the inevitable showdown between the two teams in the NBA Finals. Sort of. “I mean, with LeBron, Bosh and Wade, they’re probably the de facto Eastern Conference champs, but you’ve gotta play the games. There’s been plenty of these so-called ‘dream teams’ before, but they don’t always get over the hump,” he said. “So I’m sort of thinking [the Lakers] will play Miami in the Finals, but who knows? And even if they do, there’s no way it tops Lakers/Celtics. I mean, during Game 7 [of the Finals], I nearly had a heart attack.” Where do you want LeBron to end up? Let us know in the comments! Was Ed Swiderski Cheating on Jillian Harris?

Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski seemed to be making their relationship work despite rumors of his rampant infidelity in the run-up to their Bachelorette engagement. But did his cheating ways return, and were they responsible for the couple’s split , which we reported yesterday? That’s the rumor, according to friends of the pair. “We think Ed was doing shady stuff during their relationship,” an inside source said of Swiderski. “Jillian knew all along but couldn’t quite put her finger on it.” We’re guessing Lindsey Johnson and Bethany Steffen can relate. Friends recall an incident a month-and-a-half ago when the pair flew to L.A. from Chicago and Jillian stayed with girlfriends while Ed stayed with the guys. Was Ed Swiderski screwing around behind Jill’s back? The morning after they had a night out on the town, the pals had an early tee-time to play golf but when they went to pick up Ed Swiderski, he couldn’t make it. “I believe what happened was he had a girl with him and had no way to get her out of the house,” revealed the inside source . “They all knew he was a player.” Jillian Harris became the star of The Bachelorette after she was rejected by Jason Mesnick in the preceding season of The Bachelor . He married Molly Malaney. Former Bachelor contestants close to her say she was happy, but knew there was trouble brewing. “Jillian thought that she could change him,” says the insider. Leicester Bryce Stovell: I’m LeBron James’ Dad!

Forget rumors of Delonte West nailing his mom this spring. LeBron James is now being sued a dude who claims he slept with Gloria James, oh, say about 25 years ago. LeBron, whose HUGE decision about where he will play next season coincidentally airs tonight on ESPN, is accused of tampering with evidence, as is Gloria. Leicester Bryce Stovell, 55, claims in his lawsuit that he is the biological father of James and alleges that the NBA star and his mom covered up this fact. He says he met Gloria in a D.C. area bar in 1984, had unprotected sex with her the night they met, and later found out she was 15 at the time. He was 29. Interestingly, the guy isn’t some deadbeat. This guy says he’s LeBron James’ dad. See a resemblance? Rather, he’s a Princeton and University of Chicago Law School grad who went on to be a senior legal advisor to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In any case, Stovell claims Gloria went back to her hometown in Ohio after they hooked up, but returned several months later to inform him she was pregnant with a boy named LeBron, although she never specifically identified the father. Stovell claims he reconnected with Gloria by phone in 2007, when he began to think he could be LeBron’s dad, partly because they look almost identical. Leicester notes that when he saw LeBron play, he was “struck by our similarity in appearance. Leicester Bryce Stovell claims during the 2007 call, Gloria James threatened to have him physically harmed and told him, “LeBron’s money is for his children.” A few days after the phone call, Leicester claims LeBron James – through his lawyer – agreed to take a DNA paternity test. Stovel claims he was given results that showed he was not LeBron’s dad … but suspects Gloria and LeBron are behind a fraud. Why would he do that? “Anger at perceived abandonment and conflict arising from his image as a successful fatherless child from the projects,” Leicester Bryce Stovell theorizes. He claims Gloria “fabricated” a story about LeBron’s real father for the “one dimensional commercial image-making purpose … to make [LeBron’s] life suggestive of Spike Lee’s popular 1998 sports drama film, He Got Game .” Leicester, who notes that LeBron named his son Bryce, is seeking $4 million from LeBron and Gloria, claiming fraud, defamation and misrepresentation. James’ camp has denounced the suit as a blatant attempt to capitalize on the attention LeBron will receive in the run-up to his announcement tonight. Do you believe it? More importantly, where will LeBron end up?
