Britney Monroe says she was “in the hood” of her native Chicago when she looked up and saw it. There, in bold letters, she saw for the first time the billboard that had gotten so much media attention: “The Most Dangerous Place for an African American Child is in the Womb.” “I had mixed feelings,” she said. “The billboards made their point, but they went about it the wrong way. I don’t think it was the most politically correct way. I don’t think it should have been as specific as far as race.” The recent torrent of anti-abortion messages plastered on billboards in major cities nationwide has re-ignited the ongoing debate about abortion. This time, the billboards incorporated the extra element of race which makes unsuspecting passerbyers like Monroe ask, why target the African American community? Continued at The Atlanta Post
Hip-hop star Common is opening up his recording studio to one lucky fan, in a bid to raise $50,000 for kids living in high risk communities. The hip-hop “legend” (or so says his website), is the driving force behind a very worthwhile foundation called the “Common Ground Foundation,” which he says aims to help people “strive for greatness in any and everything you do.” On April 16, the foundation is hosting a gala in Chicago where he will be honoring women who represent award-worthy leadership skills across generations including Dr. Maya Angelou, Keke Palmer, Dee Robinson Reid and Sherri Shepherd. For those who can’t make it to the gala, or those who cannot afford the $250 ticket, or $2250 table, the donation drive has been opened up online, where everyone who donates can win different prizes based on how much they can afford to donate. PopEater report that fans who donate between $1 and $25 dollars can enter to win an autographed pic from the artist. Those who donate between $501 and $1,000 will be entered to win a phone call from Common and one lucky donor who donates more than $1,001 will be entered to win a chance to sit in on a studio session with the singer while he records his new album. Charlie Sheen took his live tour to Radio City Music Hall last night. And while the reception was not nearly as vitriolic as the one he received while bombing in Detroit , fans didn’t exactly give the actor a Cleveland-like standing ovation , either. Taking the stage a few hours after allegedly sending Denise Richards a threatening email that said he’d continue to bash her unless she returned his canine , Sheen donned Yankee attire during his set and was greeted warmly at first. But things quickly turned sour, as he referred to Richards as a “dognapper” and was booed when he said he had quit drugs. (Seriously, people?!?) Aside from the usual drivel, Sheen did make news by actually inviting Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre to his next performance and making it clear he wants to return. “Of course, I want my job back so you guys can keep watching the best f-cking sitcom in the world,” he told the crowd, many of whom had already left at this point, the show ending 30 minutes prior to its original schedule. We just wanna assure Charlie of one thing: he has nothing to worry about. We’re gonna keep watching Modern Family no matter what he does. [Photo: WENN.com]

Rapper Che “ Rhymefest ” Smith was defeated in his run for alderman of Chicago’s 20th ward. Rhymefest got 46% of the votes, but ultimately lost to incumbent Willie Cochran. Though Rhymefest did get a very respectable amount of votes, he is alleging massive voter fraud, and refused to concede the election to Cochran. “We want to ensure that it’s fair and that every vote is counted, and that people who didn’t live in the ward of vacant lots weren’t people who were voting. We want to make sure that the 20th Ward voices are heard,” Rhymefest said after Cochran was declared the winner. “We concede nothing.” Source: WLS-TV Chicago RELATED: Rev.
