RuPaul’s Drag Race: Tastes Like Chicken

Child, I don’t even know what to tell you about last night’s episode of the wig-wonkiest show on television. Things happened! Things didn’t happen. A big girl did splits and a Raven turned into a chicken. This week was Country Week. Because why the hell not. Plenty of drag queens are country. I mean, actually, I have no idea if any of them are country or not. But at least one of them has to be, right? There must be some sort of barn-like drag bar somewhere in the sparse hills and plains of America. Some boot-scootin’ bewigged old bitch lip-syncing to Martina McBride or some shit, rumbling home in her old GMC pickup, sitting on her cricket-chirped porch with its buzzing yellow light and drinking a can of MGD. But, you know, fabulously . I can picture it, can you? Well, the episode required that you were able to. Or not. Whatever. This show requires nothing. Literally all you need to bring to this show is a moderately functioning set of eyeballs and ears. And maybe a working voice, so you can whoop-shriek as things get progressively weirder and weirder until you don’t even know why you’re whoop-shrieking, just that you’re whoop-shrieking in the still of the night and there before you is a glowing box full of moving pictures. That’s all you need. That’s all you’ll ever need for this show. The episode began with an eating contest. The dragtestants had to play a game of Chicken, or What?!? in which they put on blindfolds and were told to eat things and then had to identify whether they were Chicken, or What?!?. Get it? Pretty much everything was What?!?!, actually. They ate bull balls and soy faux chicken and frog legs. They all shrieked and spit fried food all over the place. It was really attractive. And yes, everything was fried. Just a bunch of drag queens eating fried nasties on a grainy public access gay game show. If that doesn’t sound like something you’d want to watch, then, well… I don’t know what to tell you. Because that is what this show is about. The two winners were Mystique, because she is a large lady and could put away the food the fastest, and Morgan, because I don’t know why. Just because. As a reward for winning they were sent home on the next plane, far far away from this awful place made team captains for the big challenge. Which was: Make a commercial. Yes, a commercial! Like something they show on TV and is almost like acting, but for failed actors. It was pretty exciting. Until RuPaul showed the girlz what product they’d be shilling. It was something called Disco that looked like Crisco and, yes oh mercy mama of course, was a fake product. Aw nuts. Even worse? The Disco shortening or whatever it was supposed to be was hailed as “extra greasy.” Pandora’s bird-like eyes grew to saucer size. Only no one said “greasy.” They all, even more disgustingly, said “greezy.” Extra greezy. “Girl, I can’t put on my eyeliner, my hands are too greezy.” “Get away from me with that greezy face of yours.” “Honey, that dick is greezy.” It was HORRIBLE. Greezy. Eugh. Low-budget tranny snuff films should not incorporate a fried food ‘n cooking greez subplot, because everyone will turn it off before they get to the big important part: the snuff. You want them to see the snuff, don’t you? Otherwise you’d have snuffed in vain! And no one wants that. Greezy. Hyuuuagh. So, OK. The commercial. The commercial was sort of like a John Waters movie if when Divine died she had died inside John Waters’ head and then started to rot, seeping into his brain. It was, again, about greezy fried food and featured all the gals done up in their country bumpkin best-worst. They tried to do their best at looking their worst, is what I’m saying. They blacked out teeth, but didn’t really do it all the way, so it was like weird teeth bits floating in mottled outerspace. They also put on even sillier makeup than usual, especially that raggedy little bitch Morgan. Whooooooo boy did Morgan put on some makeup! She must have worked on plays in high school or something, because she did this really ridiculous old age makeup that made her look like Gloria Stuart, if Gloria Stuart began using methamphetamine and was then eaten by Divine. It was ridiculous. And vaguely embarrassing. Like when someone takes something too far or too literally. The most elaborate costume at the costume party that nobody else really cared about. That kind of thing. See Morgan was playing Granny in the little commercial. Basically it was a sketch about country people talking about Disco baking grease. One of them was about chicken, the other about fish. (Like really about fish in a gross way, if you get my drift. Greezy.) But both of them featured a chicken. Yes, Raven and Jessica Wild were cast in the role of “Disco Critter,” which was a chicken for some reason. Doesn’t “Disco Critter” sound like… well, basically Animal from The Muppets if Animal was a real person. Or a sort-of real person? Some tuft-haired weirdo who speaks mostly in Jive and basically breathes cocaine and other uppers and does weird dances and sometimes sneaks up on you and says “skeeble dee dop doo woo” in your ear, but not in a funny way, in a menacing way. That sounds like a Disco Critter to me. Not a chicken. But oh well. Chicken it was. Jessica Wild can’t speak English and has a weird voice, so her Disco Chicken was resoundingly terrifying. Squawky like a chicken should be squawky, but in a frightening way. If you were to wake up in the middle of the night and see the manic eyeball glow and squawky smile of the Jessica Wild Chicken staring you in the face, I think you might die from fright right there. Raven on the other hand was just sort of a dul ice princess Disco Chicken. A laconic, quaaludesy Disco Chicken. Just a mean bitch in a chicken outfit. Why someone didn’t nominate Pandora to wear the chicken outfit is beyond me. It is a natural fit , people. Let Pandora be herself and give her the damn chicken costume. It is not that hard. Anyway, they went to film the ad and, because they are already performers of a sort, the girls didn’t do all that bad. Jujubee and Pandora were fairly funny, and even hood-lidded bored teenager Tyra sulking in the corner over there did OK. She was playing a baby, which is fitting, because she is a mean little baby. Morgan terrified as a granny, Raven just spoke in a sad monotone, and then Jessica Wild came out in her chicken suit and ate the world. Oh! Speaking of eating the world, Kathy Najimy was the guest judge and was “directing” the “commercial” and was surprisingly bitchy. I suppose drag queens just give you license to be bitchy or something. It’s sort of just how you talk to them. To policemen you are humble and polite, to waitresses you are breezy and familiar, and to drag queens you just bitchy, lady. You just plain old bitchy. They really don’t seem to mind. SO. After Najimy was done doing her talking, it was time for the girls to get all gussied up in their finest country drag and strut around the runway. Raven looked terrific as always. Tatianna actually is a lady. Sonique continues to be a promising dark horse. Pandora’s costume was deemed “pedestrian” by Santino Rice, which is like… Santino Rice calling your RuPaul’s Drag Race costume “pedestrian” doesn’t really mean anything. That word has no context or foothold in this world. It’s like a ferret presenting you with a math problem. You just sort of stare at it bemusedly, and then wander off. Who else. Oh, yes, Tyra looked good as always and BLERGH ended up winning. So, ego. Morgan looked terrifying as usual. Jujubee typically cleans up nice. And Mystique. Well, Mystique just tucked a Tello’s dress into some pantaloons and walked out there like it was no thang. But it was a thang! It was downright greezy. When questioned about her choices by a perplexed RuPaul, Mystique was all “This is country. This is what the country girls I know wear to the mall.” So that was awfully literal. And silly. I mean… I wholeheartedly believe that the country girls that Mystique knows tuck their Tello’s dresses into their black Contempo Casuals waitress pants before hitting the Dixie Crossings Galleria, but come on lady. You know that’s not what Rupes meant when she told you to get into your country finest. It was bad. Because Raven whiffed it so hard in the commercial shoot, she ended up in the bottom with ol’ Mystique. The two were told to perform a country song about men knock-knocking but not getting in the door or something, so they both spent a lot of time pointing to their boobs during the knock-knock part and their butts during the door part, so yay for that. It was greezy. Just as it went last week, Raven is a fun lip-syncer and her competitor was just flailing around on stage. After a final crotch-slamming split, Mystique went home. Ah well, oh well. What can you do. If you’re anywhere near the Gator Springs Shopping Centre in the next coupla days, shove that Delia’s dress into some Bebe capris and go console Mystique. You’ll feel good about it. OK. I think that’s it. The episode was, in a word, Greezy . So very gree— Oh God. Run. Run!!! It’s coming!!!! The Jessica Wild Chic— CHOMP. SQUAAAWWKKKK.

John Mayer Receives Support From Charity, Porn Producers

Isaac Foundation blogs in defense of the singer, while Vivid Entertainment offers him a screenwriting gig. By Jocelyn Vena John Mayer Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Last week, John Mayer caused an uproar with controversial, racially charged comments he made in an interview with Playboy magazine . But amid the statements of outrage — and his own apologies — one group is coming to the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter’s defense: the Isaac Foundation , a charity for which Mayer has helped raise money. “I thought I would take to our blog to write a quick defense of John Mayer, someone that I have grown to respect for the kind, caring, and compassionate person that he truly is,” reads a message from Andrew McFadyen, the founder of the organization dedicated to curing MPS VI, a rare, progressive disease in children caused by an enzyme deficiency. Mayer has reportedly worked with the charity since the summer of 2008 and has kept in touch with Isaac McFadyen (the child who inspired the organization) and his family. “I know he has said things that turn people off. I know he’s said things that make him sound like someone you would never want your children around — ever. But I also know the person that he truly is and the good things he tries to accomplish with the celebrity status he’s achieved,” the message on the site reads. “A few minutes ago, I asked Isaac to tell me three words he would use to describe John, and he responded, ‘Nice, Friendable, and Loveable.’ Print that, bloggers, and give John his fair shake.” Mayer invited the 5-year-old Isaac and his family to his show in Toronto on Sunday, which followed his tour kickoff in Detroit on Saturday. After visiting with the McFadyens, the singer broke his self-imposed Twitter hiatus to link to the Isaac Foundation site. “Thank You Toronto,” Mayer tweeted . “Here is my friend Isaac I was telling you about. He made me the Valentine card tonight.” Mayer can also be seen in a video from Sunday’s show thanking Isaac for the Valentine onstage. “Sometimes you get beautiful things out of little, tiny mistakes,” the singer said. Over the weekend, Mayer also got support from another camp: porn production company Vivid Entertainment, which offered him a job penning scripts. “We read about your interest in porn in the current issue of Playboy magazine,” founder/co-chair Steven Hirsch said a letter posted on TMZ.com . “When we learned that you make up backstories in your mind and that your ‘biggest dream is to write pornography,’ we decided we’d like to talk to you about doing just that and possibly directing as well.” According to the New York Daily News, Mayer’s publicist said he wouldn’t be accepting the offer. Do you think John Mayer’s charity work makes up for his big mouth? Should he take Vivid’s offer and quit his day job? Sound off below! Related Artists John Mayer

Rielle Hunter: Engaged to John Edwards?

This story keeps on getting better and better. John Edwards is reportedly engaged to Rielle Hunter, his mistress and the mother of his love child, reports say. Two weeks ago, Edwards finally admitted that he is the father of Hunter’s two-year-old daughter. Since then, Edwards and wife Elizabeth legally separated. According to the National Enquirer, who broke the Edwards love child scandal, he proposed to his mistress on the same day he came clean about paternity. “John dropped the proposal bomb on Rielle shortly before he issued his statement that he was indeed Frances’ father,” a source told the celeb news tabloid. “ Rielle Hunter has been waiting for a proposal for two long years. She deserved to know he wanted to raise their child together, and wanted Rielle in his life.” If this is true, which we highly doubt but can’t officially rule out, you know what’s coming next: The John Edwards Sex Tape II: Honeymoon Suite Style! Will Rielle Hunter become the new Mrs. John Edwards? “John said that when his divorce is final, he’ll buy her a diamond ring. In the meantime, he’s getting them a house.” A $3.5 million beach house, allegedly. The Enquirer says that Edwards expects his divorce from his cancer-stricken wife to be completed within a year, paving the way for a marriage to Hunter. A spokeswoman for John Edwards denied this report, much like his people did numerous times about the affair … and the love child … and the coverup. “It’s absolutely not true,” his spokesman said, adding that

Levi Johnston: Coming to Desperate Housewives?

Levi Johnston is reportedly set to guest star on Desperate Housewives. Yes, we’re serious. This rumor hasn’t been confirmed, but we didn’t make it up, either. Sources say the almost-son-in-law of Sarah Palin has landed a multiple-episode guest role on the long-running ABC drama. The reason why? A certain Cherry. No, not the fact that he popped the cherry of Bristol Palin . Desperate Housewives creator March Cherry met Levi at the 2008 Republican National Convention. A member of the Log Cabin Republicans, Marc has been intrigued by the possibility of a guest-starring role for him ever since. Looks like now may be the time! Morning show veteran Levi Johnston is ready for prime time! Asked about the rumored Desperate Housewives gig, which would depict Levi as a boy toy for an older woman, a la Jesse Metcalfe, a friend of Sarah Palin said: “Well, maybe now he’ll be able to get caught up with his child support payments.” Oh, snap, deadbeat dad. Your Playgirl-posing a$$ got straight owned there. Levi is presently being sued by Bristol Palin for $1,750 a month in child support. He claims he’s tried to send money to her before and just hasn’t heard back . Either way, who isn’t pumped to see Levi Johnston nude on Desperate Housewives? You know he will be … it’s kind of the only thing he’s got going for him.

‘American Idol’ Season Nine: The Year Of The Parents

Alums Megan Joy and Nikki McKibbin note the many benefits ‘Idol’ stardom offers young moms and dads. By Gil Kaufman Megan Corkrey Photo: Jean Baptiste Lacroix/ Wireimage This year’s “American Idol” audition rounds presented a veritable baby boom of young parents aiming for their shot at stardom, often with a newborn or adorable moppet on their hip or clutching too-cute-for-words crayon pictures for the judges. From the hyper-focused Andrew Garcia , himself the son of former Los Angeles gangbangers, who is in search of a better life for his own young boy, to hulking personal trainer and expectant father Michael Lynche , who might have already washed out because his father allegedly blabbed about his Hollywood experience to a local Florida paper, moms and dads were featured in nearly every audition episode for season nine. There was scratchy-voiced rocker girl Danelle Hayes , who wanted to make it on “Idol” so she wouldn’t have to sing crummy corporate gigs to support her 3-year-old son (but who reportedly didn’t continue on in Hollywood, for unexplained reasons). And Kimberly Kerbow, a 24-year-old college student, brought along her 5-year-old daughter, who appeared to be wearing a wig as she made Rogaine jokes to Simon. What’s up with the avalanche of “Idol” wannabes in a family way? While a spokesperson for “Idol” declined to comment for this story, MTV News went to one of season eight’s most visible parents to find out what the deal is. Last year’s show had its fair share of family singers, with four parents — Megan Joy , Alexis Grace, Lil Rounds and Michael Sarver — making it into the top 13. For Joy, the single mother of a now 3-year-old son, having other moms and dads around helped ease the pressure of the show. “For us, it was incredible to have that bond,” she told MTV News on Monday. “I encourage any family to audition for ‘Idol,’ because it can change your lives.” Joy said the show has given her the financial freedom to quit her stay-at-home computer-based gig, so she can to Los Angeles four days a week to work on her debut album. “Besides the financial part, which is huge and life changing, the show changed how I feel about myself,” said the quirky tattooed songbird. “I got my confidence back, I learned so many things and built so much strength, and now I can teach my son so much more. I can show him that whatever you want to do, you can do it. It’s a beautiful dream in a hard time.” Though she felt like she was in the minority as a young parent out of the tens of thousands of people who tried out last year, Joy said she can totally see why tough economic times appear to have led to an “Idol” baby boom. “When I come back from L.A., I can do nothing but raise my son and love him and still have enough money to travel and make music too,” she said, thanks to the money she banked by making the top 10 on the show and touring with “Idol” last summer. Media critic Robert Thompson — a fervent “Idol” watcher and director of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University — said he thinks it might also have something to do with the maturation of a generation that has been watching “Idol” since they were kids. On the other hand, it could also be partly due to clever editing. “They have 100,000 people try out every year, and there are all kinds of demographics, so we only see a small number of them, and they’ve chosen to show us a lot of parents with their kids coming into the room and drawing pictures for the judges,” he said. “My guess is that since 2002, there have probably been a pretty high number of people who have kids, but for some reason they’re emphasizing it this year.” Parents have been on “Idol” for years, from single-mom Fantasia to stepdad Chris Daughtry. But, as Thompson suggested, we could be seeing parents like Seth Rollins and Jack Black lookalike Mark Labriola take a shot this season because producers might have decided that their stories keep the show relevant during tough economic times. Everyone can relate to or sympathize with young parents looking for a potential way out of hardship. “There was that young woman who said 10 times or more that being the ‘Idol’ would allow her to raise her child and support him,” he said. “There have probably always been people like that, but the show is emphasizing it more in these times because it makes for a good story.” Plus, while “Idol” always looks for a the young and attractive contestants to appeal to teens, the show also happens to have one of the widest demographic spans on TV, so stories about struggling parents (single or otherwise) can appeal to a broad range of fans. The first “Idol” mom, Nikki McKibbin, who finished third in the show’s inaugural season, said that unlike this season’s baby brigade, it was a lonely world for her back in 2002. “I was the only [parent] that year, and I kind of felt like the mom of the group because I was the oldest and only one who was a parent,” said McKibbin, who was 23 at the time and left then-4-year-old son Tristan at home in Dallas. “It was really difficult for me, because I’ve always been around my son and always been there for him, but the thing that kept me going was the thought, ‘Wow, if I win this, it will be a great opportunity for my son. I’ll have enough money to set up a college fund and take care of things for him.’ ” And sure enough, like Joy, McKibbin — who has just released a new single, “It Matters to Me,” on iTunes and is working on an album with Dallas hard-rock band Wicked Attraction — said her run on “Idol” allowed her to rent her first home and buy a new car. “I was living in an efficiency, and I moved into a four-bedroom house, so I had a bedroom and my son had a room, and I got a car and was able to give him the things he wanted that I wasn’t able to give him before, like video games and a TV in his room,” she said. While parents understand they will be away from their kids for a long time if they make it beyond Hollywood, McKibbin said the payoff if you make it to the top tier is totally worth it. “When you look at it, you think, ‘This is going to be amazing at the end of it, when I have all this money, and I can actually provide for my family and not just give them what they need in life, but also the things they want.’ ” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Bullet Points: Socialite and Pharmaceutical Exec Gigi Jordan Charged with Murdering Her Autistic Son

Gigi Jordan , a multi-million pharmaceutical executive, was found in her $2,300/night suite “babbling incoherently” after trying to commit suicide, while her eight year-old son lay dead next to her. She’s being charged with feeding him an overdose of pills. This story is, quite simply, one of the more insane, convoluted ones to come around in a while, especially with the conflicting nature of reports on Jordan. In just trying to suss out all the reports, it goes something like this: Gigi Jordan, a native Belgian, was the president of several New York-based pharmaceutical companies that manufactured drugs to treat cancer. None of the reports can seem to name the companies, though. After making her money in pharmaceuticals, Jordan got into the real estate game, making her fortune there. A New York Post source estimates Jordan’s value to be “about $100M.” In 2001, Jordan married Emil Valention Tzekov six days after divorcing the man she used to be married to, the pharmaceutical exec she made her fortune with, Raymond Mirra. Jordan gave birth to her son, Jude Michael, on July 13, 2001. It’d appear that the father of the son was Tzekov, who told the Daily News “That’s my son…I don’t know if I can talk about this.” Tzekov’s neighbors describe Jude Michael as “autistic” to the Daily News . Tzekov and Jordan got divorced in 2006. Tzekov told the Daily News he hadn’t seen Jordan or his son in a year. On Wednesday, Jordan checked into Room 1603 at The Peninsula Hotel. According to hotel staffers, she hangs a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, paid the bill in cash, ordered lots of room service, and “didn’t leave the room for two days.” According to the New York Post , Jordan’s aunt received an email from her threatening suicide and the murder of Jude. The aunt then contacted the 20th Precinct, faxing them the emails. The 20th moved into action, and figured Jordan was at The Peninsula. On showing up, police found the Do Not Disturb sign, and that Jordan had barricaded the door with either a couch or several chairs. On bursting down the door, they found Jordan lying on floor, foaming at the mouth and “babbling incoherently.” Her son, who’d been dead for what’s being estimated to be a day by police, was on the bed. Authorities believe Gigi Jordan fed Jude a lethal combination of Xanax and Ambien. Ambien’s been known to have a harsh side-effect of suicidal thoughts in some patients. Sources noted to the Post that the room was littered with pill bottles and “thousands” of pills, along with “scattered documents — including a suicide note penned by Jordan.” In the suicide note, she wrote that her son Jude was in “constant pain” and that she’d hoped “Jude [was in] a better place.” She also ” mentioned speaking with a Wyoming child porn investigator about the sexual abuse of kids, ” and cited the assistance of an ex-FBI agent. In an already bizarre and tragic case, this part sticks out: Ex-FBI agent Flint Waters “told me many rich people are involved,” Jordan wrote. “Many wealthy guys trade child porn like a hobby.” Waters did not return a call Friday night. The Daily News also reports that Jordan wrote that she donated $20M to Haiti relief efforts before attempting suicide , putting $12M to Doctors Without Borders and $8M to the Red Cross, noting that the other $7M in her estate would “be used for some better purpose in society.” Besides either organization now showing any record (though the News notes that this could be because she mailed the checks on Wednesday), this also conflicts with the New York Post ‘s sourced $100M valuation of her estate. On the website of a “Fertility guru”: Jordan had said having her child has “helped awaken a spiritual connection to God.” “In learning how to release my fear of losing something I really wanted and to allow myself to believe I would have it,” she wrote, “I gave birth to a beautiful boy, and experienced a greater depth of love and connectedness with my child.” Jordan’s currently in the hospital right now, and she’s going to be charged with the murder of her son . She’s been cooperating with authorities, and gave them the password to her computer. Now, just questions: How did Gigi Jordan amass her fortune, and were these problems present before? Why’d she check into The Peninsula? How did nobody in Jordan’s life see this coming? And most importantly, what part of Jordan’s past as a pharmaceutical executive will be tied to her current state as an incoherent, filicidal new-ager? Because something will be.
