Ron Paul Walks Off CNN Interview, Irritated By New Questions About Old Newsletters

GOP Presidential candidate Ron Paul furrowed his eyebrows, growing agitated before taking off his mic and walking away from CNN interview about his old newsletters. As Paul has gained traction in recent polls, the media has turned up the heat, alleging that he made money and won fame with a sometimes racist series of publications. Paul claims he didn’t read most of the newsletters and their controversial content, written during the 1980s and 1990s, despite them being published under his name. He has taken responsibility for being a bad publisher, but disavowed the views, as he explained to CNN’s Gloria Borger, who grilled him on the topic yesterday … Ron Paul Walks Off CNN interview “Why don’t you go back and look at what I said yesterday on CNN and what I’ve said for 20 something years. 22 years ago?” the 76-year-old Paul said at the outset. “I didn’t write them, I disavow them, that’s it.” Borger pressed on for a few seconds before urging Paul to react to what people are saying about the allegations. “These things are pretty incendiary,” Borger said . “Because of people like you,” Paul snapped back. Later, when talking with Borger about the interview incident on air, Situation Room host Wolf Blizter suggested that Paul “got tired of talking about” the allegations. He could have probably handled it a lot better, although he has answered the same questions the same way a ton of times now, including last week on Hannity . What do you think? Is Paul’s explanation satisfactory? Will the fiery newsletters from long ago continue to dog him, or will they become background noise?

Kardashians Konsider Lawsuit to Kombat Kontemptible Sweatshop Klaims

Star Magazine has pulled off the impossible: coverage of the Kardashians than actually turns off this attention-crazed family. The latest issue of the tabloid quotes Charles Kernaghan – the head of the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights – as saying the Kris Jenner-led clan employs youths in China to manufacture Kardashian merchandize in unsanitary warehouses . An investigation has been launched into these “slave labor” like conditions – that reportedly include long work hours, meager wages and uncomfortable temperatures – but there’s a

Kardashians Accused of Using Slave Labor to Produce Fashion Lines; Family Denies Allegations

The Kardashians stand accused of using “slave labor” and turning a blind eye to human rights atrocities to produce their multimillion dollar fashion lines. A human rights group is investigating claims that workers in China – as young as 16 – work in squalor to manufacture merchandise for the famous family. The labels in question: K-Dash by Kardashian (which Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian are all involved with), the Kris Jenner Kollection and ShoeDazzle, according to Star . The institute for Global Labour and Human Rights has in fact launched an investigation, amidst claims the Kardashians’ products are inhumanely produced. With factories reeking of stench from sewage and temperatures north of 100 degrees, an official from the group says conditions in the area are “horrific.” There are also claims the employees work up to 84 hours a week, earning $1 an hour … while the Kardashians rake in approximately $65 million a year. However, a leader of the human rights group quoted in the story implying the Kardashians use “slave labor” says the story is misleading in many ways. Charles Kernaghan, Executive Director of the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights, says he told Star , “It was a wise idea to wait on the article.” Reason being: No proof had been found that the specific factories the Kardashians use violate child labor standards or human rights. That’s a good reason. Kernaghan is quoted as saying, “The Kardashians are in bed with some pretty bad people” and “not only are they taking advantage of these workers, they are holding hands with a government that spits on democracy and women’s rights.” Kernaghan tells says his quotes were taken out of context, though, that the violations he described to Star apply to the REGION in China where clothing and other items are manufactured, where child labor practices are often quite appalling. Again, he was not calling out specific factories the Kardashians use. At least not yet. Kernaghan does say that at least 75 percent of the factories in the region have violations similar to the ones described in Star . Kris Jenner tells TMZ in response to the story that factories the Kardashians use are “strictly policed” to avoid child labor or human rights violations. The company behind the Kardashian shoe line is also adamant that there are no violations and that the “agency” making the claim has not contacted them. Robert Shapiro, the famous lawyer-turned-entrepreneur (he and the girls’ father, Robert Kardashian Sr., co-defended O.J. Simpson), owns ShoeDazzle and says he invests time, energy and money to ensure the factories are in good standard. One of the people who has personally visited the factories is ShoeDazzle COO Deborah Benton, who weighed in as such: “These issues of child labor are always of paramount importance to us. We’ve been very focused on this from the very beginning.” She adds, “Factories are routinely inspected and always pass inspection.”

Christian Bale Involved In Car Chase and Police Skirmish in China

While in China to promote his historical drama The Flowers of War — also known as the most expensive Chinese film ever made — Christian Bale embarked on an eight-hour drive with a CNN news crew to visit Chen Guangcheng, a civil rights activist who has been under house arrest for the past year. Only instead of a polite meet-and-greet, Bale and the news team were manhandled by security guards outside Guangcheng’s home before being chased for 30 minutes. Didn’t the Chinese authorities know they were dealing with Batman?

Jane Fonda to Costar as a Media Honcho on Aaron Sorkin’s Cable News Sitcom

Looks like Jane Fonda followed our advice exactly and plans to revive the news-hungry character she played in The China Syndrome in what will mark her first major TV foray: Fonda has signed on for a recurring role in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming HBO drama as Leona Lansing, the CEO of a cable news network’s parent company. Sounds like a pretty close match to her third husband Ted Turner, no? If Leona Lansing starts colorizing old news reels, we’ll know the parallel is intentional. [ TVL ine ]

The Flowers of War Trailer with Christian Bale: The Dark Knight Races to China

Now, the Second Sino-Japanese War may not seem like the perfect backdrop for Christian Bale to showcase his heartthrob chops, but it appears there’s a romance nestled in this very expensive, ornate chronicle of the Japanese invasion of China. The Flowers of War is China’s official submission to the Oscars, and it won’t take long to see why: This thing is too gigantic and textbook-serious to be ignored.
