Beyotch you wasn’t with me singing in the booth!!! According to TMZ reports : Drake is finally firing back at the disgruntled female vocalist featured on his hit song “Marvin’s Room” … telling TMZ he NEVER threatened the woman when she complained about payment. Earlier this week — a woman named Ericka Lee filed a lawsuit against Drake, in which she claimed she co-wrote the song but never got proper credit. In her suit, Lee claims Drake warned her that if she didn’t back off about payment … he had “people” who would take care of “issues like her.” But Drake’s rep says, “This claim is entirely without merit and our client has not engaged in any wrongful conduct.” The rep also claims Lee consented to have her voice used in “Marvin’s Room” without compensation … adding, “Drake tried for months to resolve the matter amicably, and he now looks forward to being vindicated in court.” In her suit, Lee claims she and Drake were engaged in a romantic relationship for more than a year between 2010 and 2011 … but sources tell us the rapper is adamant there was never a relationship between the two. Guess chicks like Ericka Lee are why Drake has so many “Trust Issues”… More On Bossip! Well would you looky who is JET Beauty of the Week this time around??? Spike Lee is JET’s cover star for their upcoming (February 6) issue and inside he gets pretty revealing. Here’s what he had to say about how he found his calling: “I was just standing in the corner, looking out my window and seeing the richness and variety of African-American experience. What I was seeing on television and the diversity of African-American experience was lacking in television and film. And my parents were very progressive. I remember getting a lecture from my mother. ‘Don’t let them tell you that Cleopatra looked like Elizabeth Taylor.’ She really was about re-education.” We’ve been using this guy for great headlines for a minute now, so it was no surprise to hear him admit his work and his opinions have caused him some trouble in his time, check the next page for more excerpts from the story.
This is all starting to seem like some high school drama. The upcoming season of VH1′s Basketball Wives Miami is looking to be filled with drama as usual. We know that Evelyn Lozada and Jennifer Williams are no longer BFF’s but now the reasons are starting to surface. In a recent interview Jenn tells her side of the story: Let me tell you what she’s mad over ‘cause this always comes up. She hates the fact that I’m really good friends with NeNe [Leakes], and she hates the fact that me and Mashonda are good friends. I feel like it’s all coming from a place of hurt, and she’s turning it into anger. Why do you care who I’m friends with? Like, that’s ridiculous. I live in New York. You live in Miami. I don’t care who you hang out with. I’m kinda over it because I just feel like I’m at a point at my life where I’m trying to get rid of negative energy,” she said. “To me, I feel like it’s something so minuscule. It’s not like I slept with Chad. It’s not something irreparable. It’s something stupid that you’re mad over. If you really are mad because I have other friends, I think that’s completely ridiculous. Evelyn is a non mothaf**ing factor: I don’t say anything to her, and she doesn’t say anything to me. I think it’s always unfortunate when you have so much history with a person for so long and then something stupid happens. More on her relationship with Nene: NeNe is such a good person. I don’t think you really find a lot of people in the same business that you bond with because I feel like everyone is so competitive and everybody is so worried about the next person doing more than them, and it’s not like that with her at all. She’s always trying to encourage me. She’s just always trying to uplift me, and I need people like that around me. I love that about her. There’s no jealousy. There’s no competition. We try to complement each other. I don’t pick my friends based on if they’re on a TV show or what they do, if they’re a celebrity. [NeNe] and I have something in common, and the same with Mashonda. It’s a real friendship. We don’t have to tweet each other every day. It’s genuine. We really do have a friendship outside of TV and all this. What do you think of the drama? Is it all for publicity or should we expect to see Nene catching fade on Basketball Wives soon? Check out Evelyn’s response to this f**kery via Twitter next… Source
“Lemme get out here before I curse this heffa out.” President Barack Obama and Arizona’s Republican Governor Jan Brewer appeared to get into a verbal argument just moments after Air Force One touched down in Phoenix Wednesday afternoon. According to reporters at the scene, Brewer could be seen pointing her finger at the president during their brief exchange, before Obama walked away. Brewer later told reporters the president had been upset about a passage in her recent book in which she described a meeting between the two at the White House. “He was a little disturbed about my book, ‘Scorpions for Breakfast,’” said Brewer, who was there to welcome Obama to Arizona. Asked which passage of the book he had taken issue with, Brewer suggested Obama felt he had not been portrayed cordially in one of the excerpts. “I said I was sorry he felt that way but I didn’t get my sentence finished,” she said. “Anyway, we’re glad he’s here. I’ll regroup.” Daaaaaamn so “Ice Cold” Barry-O just George Jefferson strolled on this broad while she was in mid-sentence?? That’s gaaaaangsta! LOL! Of course, The White House has released a statement with a lil’ spin on it to clean things up a bit… “The governor handed the President a letter and said she was inviting him to meet with her,” it said. “The President said he’d be glad to meet with her again, but did note that after their last meeting, a cordial discussion in the Oval Office, the governor inaccurately described the meeting in her book.” We recommend Riiiiiiight…*side-eye* Source
Racks on racks on racks, racks on racks on racks, racks on racks on racks she got racks on racks on racks! We were very happy to hear Octavia Spencer has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Help.” Apparently her racks are also excited because they will also be having a big night as well. “It’s numbing!” Spencer, who won a Golden Globe for her role as Minny Jackson in “The Help”, told PEOPLE of her Oscar nomination. “There were no guarantees. I didn’t think I was in it and then they said my name and it was just a sigh of relief.” Once it sinks in and she has time to congratulate fellow nominee Melissa McCarthy – “I’m just going to call her and do a drive-by today,” she says. “I’m thrilled for her!” – Spencer, 42, will have some decisions to make about what to wear on her big night. “For me, it’s about comfort and looking good for you,” she says of her approach to fashion. “I don’t need to wear a dress that a size-two woman can wear. I don’t need to show a lot of skin. I have more skin than a size-two woman!” Spencer also believes in dressing to flatter her fuller figure. “It’s just about accentuating the positives and blurring the negatives,” she says. “I want to accentuate the positive which would be cleavage – even though it’s saggy cleavage, it’s cleavage! – and give myself an hourglass.” So which designers are on her short list? Tadashi, David Meister and Adrianna Papell, to name a few. Add accessories designer Judith Leiber and jeweler Neil Lane. “I’m all about being loyal to the people who gave me free clothes for the publicity tour when there was nothing in it for them. … I love it that the other people are clamoring but when I needed something, they weren’t there,” says Spencer, who appreciates that these designers “really know how to cut for more soft figures.” “My mom always taught us to dance with the one that brought you,” she adds, “so I’m going to dance with the ones that brought me.” The 84th Annual Academy Awards will air live from Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on ABC, Sunday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. ET. Billy Crystal, returning for the first time in eight years, will serve as host, for the ninth time. We loved Octavia’s character Minnie in “The Help”. If you haven’t seen the film yet, try and check it out before the awards, you will really appreciate her performance. And now ‘Tavia got us all excited to see what she wears to the Oscars! Known as one of the most successful black filmmakers in Hollywood, Tyler Perry foresees a major shift in films starring an all African American cast. Perry recently wrote an open letter on his site stemming from George Lucas’ recent statement on the lack of support that he received during the making of ‘Red Tails,’ stating that films starring an all black cast are on the verge of being extinct: Unfortunately, movies starring an all African American cast are on the verge of becoming extinct. THAT’S RIGHT, EXTINCT! Ask any executive at a Hollywood Studio why, and most of them will tell you one of two things. The first thing they’ll say is that DVD sales have become very soft, so it’s hard for a movie with an all black cast to break-even. Secondly they’ll say, most movies are now dependent on foreign sales to be successful and most “black” movies don’t sell well in foreign markets. So what that means is you will begin to see less and less films that star an all black cast. Isn’t that sad in a 2012 America? Somewhere along the way we still haven’t realized that we are more alike then not. I must tell you that I have been very fortunate to work with a studio that sees the value in my type of storytelling and filmmaking. As well as having you, an audience of all races of people, who have stood by me arm and arm. It has helped me navigate through some pretty rough waters. I thought that as black people in Hollywood, this is just our reality, but I quickly realized that this is not racism. What made me realize this is I had a conversation with Mr. Star Wars himself, George Lucas, and he was telling me that he was having the same problem with Red Tails. I was blown away! Red Tails is an important story about, not just black history, but American history about the Tuskegee Airmen. It has an all-star African American cast, including Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard, which opens this Friday. He went on to say that he brought the movie idea of Red Tails to several studios and no one wanted to make this film… AND THIS IS GEORGE LUCAS! Not to be deterred, he put up his own money, shot the movie then took it back to those same studios, and they wanted nothing to do with it. One of them even refused to see the film, citing the above mentioned problems. So George decided to take a huge risk by entirely funding the movie and releasing it himself. What a guy! For him to believe so strongly in this story is amazing. I think we should pull together and get behind this movie. I really do! Not just African Americans, but all of us. I have seen the movie and screened it here in Atlanta. I loved it and I think you will too. The Tuskegee Airmen, who were at the screening, were so happy that somebody is telling a small part of their story. It opens this Friday. Please take your kids, you will enjoy it and so will they. There is a lot of action and adventure and also a great history lesson to be learned. George, I just want to say, thank you for having the courage to do this. Is Tyler right? Do you think Tyler has helped give Black actors work in Hollywood or made the struggle of working Black actors even worse by making movies that depict African Americans stereotypically? Source
Uh-Oh, there’s some loose lips in the Knowles-Carter camp, and they belong to Michelle Williams! BeyBey’s fellow Destiny’s Child member recently revealed she’s already had a visit with Blue Ivy Carter and observed Bey and hubby Hov in their new parent roles. Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child bandmate was among those who has already met Blue Ivy Carter, the singer’s first child with hubby Jay-Z, born in NYC on Jan. 7. “She is absolutely gorgeous. We were all in love,” Williams, 31, told USA Today at Saturday’s BET Honors in Washington, D.C. Beyonce, 30, Jay-Z, 42 and their little one have not yet been photographed since the much-reported birth went down in a posh, private “executive suite” at Lenox Hill Hospital two weekends ago. But the superstar couple “have already settled into their role of being parents, and it’s just awesome to see,” Williams added. Also at the BET event, fellow Destiny’s Child survivor Kelly Rowland was more reluctant to dish on the most talked-about baby of the new year. “That will be something that everybody will have to experience the same way I did,” the “Commander” singer said. “That’s for her parents to disclose, not myself.” See Kelly knows her role. She’s not getting kicked out of her godmother status just to get a couple quotes in the tabs. Source More On Bossip! She might have lost some weight, but J-Hud is still the heavyweight champion of her relationship! According to the “gospel” of the National Enquirer : JENNIFER HUDSON’s romance with pro wrestler DAVID OTUNGA could go down for the count if he refuses to change careers, say sources. The 30-year-old “Dreamgirls” star should be on top of the world with a new mansion, beautiful baby boy and svelte new figure. But she’s said to be devastated that Otunga, a Harvard-educated lawyer, won’t give up his career in the wacky world of professional wrestling. “It’s really hurting their romance and their life together,” revealed an insider. Muscular David had landed a coveted position at a prestigious law firm, “but now he’s having too much fun as a wrestler,” added the source. “Jennifer wants him to have a career in a serious profession rather than the circus world of pro wrestling. But he told her he can always go back to being an attorney. Right now he’s in great physical shape and loves what he’s doing. “So they are at a crisis point in the relationship.” SMH @ David, let us find out he’s keeping his wrestling “career” and not signing a prenup so he can collect JHud’s hard-earned stacks if they get divorced.
