Dayton wins NIT, Beats North Carolina 79-68

Dayton players danced at midcourt and then lingered on ladders as they cut down the nets at Madison Square Garden. Marcus Johnson scored 20 points and Dayton denied last year’s national champs another title, topping the Tar Heels 79-68 Thursday night to win the NIT. Forgive these Flyers for taking a little extra time to soak it all in. Brace yourselves for a stunner: Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Lautner were all big winners at this weekends Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in LA. Cyrus and the Eclipse star hunk picked up honors for Favorite Movie Actress and Actor, while Swift was a double winner with top Female Singer and Song. The star who plays werewolf Jacob Black said of his success: “I have to admit, I have always dreamt of winning one of these orange blimps. Katy bounced around in her skin tight blue dress while presenting the award and celebrating Jonah Hill’s birthday until he said he actually doesn’t have a birthday. I believe him. Katy Perry decided to punish him by not letting him announce the winner, so she ran over to the box and instead of the winner, she got a face full of slime. ‘It’s such an awesome show and the writing is hilarious,’ she says of her new Nickelodeon sitcom. By Jocelyn Vena Victoria Justice on the set of “Victorious” Photo: MTV News “Victorious” is a new show on Nickelodeon about a young lady, Tori Vega, who finds herself smack dab in the middle of the drama that surrounds life at a performing arts high school. Making its premiere after the Kids’ Choice Awards , the show’s star, Victoria Justice, said that getting to star in her own show after playing supporting roles on other Nick shows like “Zoey 101” and “iCarly” has certainly proved to be a dream come true. “I just think it’s such an awesome show and the writing is hilarious,” Justice told MTV News on the show’s set. “My whole cast is amazingly talented, so I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.” While Justice certainly has a lot of Hollywood experience for someone of her young age, co-star Mark Bennett, who plays Robbie on the show, explained that her character Tori is still trying to figure out who she is as a performer. “[It’s] a show for people with dreams,” he said. “It’s a real Cinderella story. She’s trying to integrate herself into the Hollywood society.” Justice agreed. “She’s kind of figuring out how to express herself, and she loves singing and dancing and acting,” she said. “And then along the way she meets all these other crazy kids that go there.” So if her character loves singing and dancing, does that mean we will get to see Justice do both on the show? “We have all original music,” she said. “And I think there’s going to be a song every three or four episodes or so.” Are you excited for Victoria’s new show? Kids’ Choice Awards Fashion: Justin Bieber, Katy Perry Rock The Orange Carpet

By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber arrives at the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday Photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images On Saturday night (March 27) in Los Angeles, the hottest place to be was the orange carpet at the Kids’ Choice Awards, where everyone from Nickelodeon stars to Justin Bieber and Taylor Lautner rubbed elbows. While no one was slimed on the orange carpet, there were some notable fashion choices. Kids’ Choice Awards Red Carpet Bieber hit the show in a black vest, black jeans, black T-shirt and dog tags and fittingly wore slime-green high-tops. Fellow performer Rihanna kept her ensemble light in a beige, draped dress. “Twilight” was definitely represented at the show. Lautner was looking funkier than usual in a relaxed white T-shirt, black blazer and jeans. Meanwhile, Nikki Reed looked fresh in a pastel, floral-print tiered dress. The Jonas Brothers went with their usual red-carpet attire. Joe donned a gray suit ,white T-shirt and light-blue boat shoes; Nick had on a khaki suit and red bow tie; and oldest brother Kevin opted for a black, pinstripe suit but funked it up with sneakers and a striped tie. They were joined by little brother Frankie in a fedora, plaid shirt and orange cast and Joe’s lady, Demi Lovato, who wore big hoop earrings and a black dress with corseted detailing. The Nick stars were out in full force. “Victorious” star Victoria Justice wore a teal dress with peep-toe ankle boots. “iCarly” star Miranda Cosgrove looked adorable in a purple-satin strapless dress with a ruffled hemline. Keeping the color alive was Keke Palmer in an abstract floral-print dress in a pastel color with lavender peep-toes. Katy Perry wore her signature bangs and a very mini black, teal and purple sequined flapper dress accessorized with turquoise pumps. Justin Bieber Keeping Kids’ Choice Awards Performance A Surprise

By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News On Saturday, Justin Bieber will be one of two performers at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards — along with Rihanna, he will be hitting the stage for the annual awards show. And while he just missed the deadline to be nominated for any prizes, he does know that when he gets up there to sing, his fans will be surprised by what they get. Bieber is keeping any performance details under wraps. “I do know what I’m performing, but I don’t want to tell anyone,” he teased. “Were both performing, but not together.” Once he finishes his Kids’ Choice Awards performance, Bieber is also set to hit another iconic stage when he plays “Saturday Night Live” on April 10 , with Tina Fey as host. “I’m really excited. I’ve watched it all my life,” he said. “So it’s amazing to be able to perform.” And as if that wasn’t reason enough to celebrate, just this week he released his sophomore album, My World 2.0. On it, he has a collaboration with Ludacris, “Baby,” and Lil Wayne has also said that he wants to work with the teen star. “I would love to work with him in the future, but nothing so far,” he said. Does Bieber really have a swagger coach to thank for being accepted by hip-hop’s elite? “I mean, I just hang out with whoever. I’m also friends with Selena Gomez. I hang out with everyone,” he said, adding any rumors of a swagger coach have been greatly exaggerated. “I mean, it’s just a joke. Rihanna Takes Drum Lessons From Travis Barker Before Tour

By James Montgomery Rihanna and Travis Barker Photo: Travis Barker Rihanna ‘s European tour doesn’t kick off until next month (with a full U.S. jaunt scheduled for the summer), but from the looks of things it’s already shaping up to be a can’t-miss show. That’s because, in addition to the usual ephemera — Lights! Props! Costumes! — Rih Rih is also expanding her repertoire for the tour by learning how to play the drums. And she’s taking lessons from one of the best in the business: noted metronome/masher Travis Barker . Late Tuesday (March 23), Barker’s reps sent MTV News a photo of the dynamic duo after a recent practice at the Hollywood Center Studios and the Blink-182 smasher included a note that promised that not only will Rihanna be playing live onstage (no click track here), but that “she’s really good.” He later posted even more about the rehearsals on his Twitter account , writing, “She Jams! Watch out for her!” We’re inclined to believe him because at this point, Barker has collaborated with practically everyone under the sun, including his current gig with DJ A-Trak , which he unveiled earlier this month with a string of shows at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood. Rihanna’s European tour gets underway April 16 in Antwerp, Belgium, and runs until early June. She’s also set to perform at the upcoming Kids’ Choice Awards, along with the likes of Justin Bieber.There are no firm dates for her U.S. tour, but it is reportedly set to kick off this summer.
