Emmy Nominations Spur ‘Glee’ Cast Text-Message Chain

‘Mad Men’ star Jon Hamm says he, too, ‘woke up to 18 texts’ congratulating him. By Kelley L. Carter Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch Photo: Angela Weiss/ Getty Images The sweet, gleeful sound of a text-message alert woke Jane Lynch up Thursday morning (July 8). “I was aroused from a deep sleep!” the actress told People magazine about her 5 a.m. text. “It’s always a surprise and it’s always exciting.” Lynch was being informed that she was nominated for an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her work on “Glee” and also for a guest spot on CBS’ “Two and a Half Men.” Likewise, co-star Matthew Morrison was nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy and told the magazine that he prepped himself for the early morning Emmy announcements by running 7 miles. “You try to not put too much importance on something like this, and I want to say it doesn’t matter to me, but I can’t seem to wipe this smile off my face right now,” he said. “Glee” racked up 19 nominations, which Morrison said set off a text-message chain. “I talked to [creator] Ryan [Murphy and] I’m so happy for [fellow nominee] Chris Colfer . I texted Jane and I texted Lea [Michele], and I texted the hair and makeup department! We have all been in the loop,” he said. Colfer, 20, plays newly out-of-the-closet high school student Kurt Hummel. “I knew there was the possibility, but I don’t think I could have expected this,” he said, adding that he phoned just about everyone, including “the lunch ladies from my high school and pretty much anyone!” Colfer also told USA Today that the recognition was extra special because many of his fans have shared with him the significance of his character. “I know how important the character is to so many people, especially kids who have been told it’s not OK to be who they are,” he said. “The thing I’m most excited about is those kids get to see Kurt get nominated.” The “Glee” actors weren’t the only ones sending around text messages. “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm told USA Today that he “woke up to 18 texts. That’s sort of a new development,” said the actor, who also was nominated for his guest stint on NBC’s “30 Rock.” The 62nd annual awards show will air Sunday, August 20. ‘Glee’ May Revisit Madonna Catalog

Creator Ryan Murphy is in talks to make another Madonna-themed episode. By Jocelyn Vena The cast of “Glee” in the “Power of Madonna” episode Photo: FOX After fans tuned in Tuesday night to see the students of McKinley High strike their best “Vogue” poses on the all-Madonna episode of “Glee,” it seems show creator Ryan Murphy is looking to get the Material Girl onboard again for another themed episode. Murphy’s and Madge’s camps are currently in talks to secure the rights to use six more songs in an episode that would air early next season, according to Entertainment Weekly. In a statement, Murphy said, “Madonna and her people are into it and want it to happen.” And Madonna has already given Tuesday’s show her stamp of approval, saying she “completely appreciated” the glee clubbers’ interpretation of her iconic songs, which included “Like a Virgin” and “Vogue.” “The entire cast was amazing,” the pop queen said. “They’re all so talented. I especially loved Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and Kurt Hummel’s (Chris Colfer) characters. Ryan Murphy did a great job bringing all these elements together. [Daughter] Lola loved the show too. I wish I went to a high school like that. … If only.” The stars of “Glee” were overjoyed about their first chance to remake the classic pop tunes: “It’s a piece of television history,” gushed Kevin McHale, who plays wheelchair-bound Artie. “Jane Lynch doing the ‘Vogue’ video … it’s frame-by-frame perfect to the original. Throughout the entire episode, it’s just Madonna all the time — like, there’s secret stuff in the background … It’s amazing how they fit all that into one hour. It’s kind of exhausting.” Which other Madonna songs would you like to hear in an episode of “Glee”? Tell us in the comments!

‘Glee’ Stars Get Help From Madonna, But What About Adam Lambert?

‘I’ve only heard rumors,’ Chris Colfer says of a possible Lambert appearance. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino The cast of “Glee” in the “Power of Madonna” episode Photo: FOX In the “Power of Madonna” episode of “Glee” set to air on Tuesday night (April 20), fans will get more than just remixes of favorite pop tunes. The Material Girl herself praised how Mr. Schuester will use her songs to teach his students a little more about themselves, and possibly change the way they interact with each other. Jenna Ushkowitz said that her character Tina will use Madge’s girl-power pop to clear up her relationship with pal and love interest Artie Abrams (played by Kevin McHale). “Well, definitely in the Madonna episode you’ll see [Tina and Artie] interact more, and it’s all about women’s empowerment,” she explained to MTV News at the GLAAD Media Awards in L.A. on Saturday. “And how the boys are degrading and disrespectful. Tina will come back and fight back pretty hard, and then the writers have graciously given us the chance to live out our relationship for a while.” Chris Colfer (who plays Kurt Hummel on the show) didn’t shed too much light on the Madonna episode, but did weigh in on the rumors that Adam Lambert may bring his glam-rock voice and style to the show. “He’s a sweetheart,” he said. “I’ve only heard rumors, but I’ve never heard anything discussed with the writers or any of that.” But Colfer was able to speculate a bit on what’s next for his openly gay character. “There’s lots of good Kurt and Burt [Kurt’s father] story lines coming up, and I think next season he’s getting a love interest, so that should be interesting, I believe,” he said. “They don’t tell me anything, but I believe he’ll be a student — but that’s all I really know.” Do you think Adam Lambert should stop by “Glee?” Tell us in the comments!
