Is Gary Oldman Having a Moment?

As you saw in the underwhelming teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises , it wasn’t Christian Bale, Tom Hardy or Anne Hathaway who got a majority of the 90-second screen time — it was Gary Oldman. (And the disembodied voice of Liam Neeson.) Oldman’s wheezing and battered-looking Commissioner Gordon told an off-screen Batman about “evil” and all the other mumbo-jumbo that old wheezing men in hospital beds go on about, and basically stole the show. The renowned character actor is also front-and-center on the U.K. poster for Tinker Tailor Solider Spy , with a headshot usually reserved for A-listers like Will Smith or Russell Crowe. Which raises the question: Is Gary Oldman having a moment?

Christopher Nolan will shoot The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh this summer, to the delight of Wiz Khalifa and Troy Polamalu. “Pittsburgh is a beautiful city,” Nolan said in a statement. “We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.” Sorry, Chicago; you’re stuck with Michael Bay. No Grit: Coen Brothers Shut Out at Directors Guild

Remember all that talk about how True Grit was the new Best Picture front runner because of its muscular box office ($110 million and counting)? Yeah, perhaps not. Joel and Ethan Coen failed to received a nomination from the Directors Guild this morning, meaning True Grit ‘s road to winning Best Picture just hit a major bump in the road. Get Ready to Explore Even More Layers in Inception Video Game

At a Rome press conference for Inception , director Christopher Nolan unveiled plans to develop an video game version of the blockbuster that will explore “all kinds of ideas that you can’t fit into a feature film.” No word on whether these ideas involve mind-bending dream puzzles or just more snow-mobile chases and shootouts with faceless goons in the Arctic. Still, if Nolan oversees this it may change the tune of those who dismiss video games as a lesser art form and encourage more major directors to explore the medium. [ Hollywood Reporter ]
