Shae Harmony Wins “Fresh Cuts Showcase” If you’ve been keeping up, you already know that Snow Hill, NC native Shae Harmony is the winner of our latest Fresh Cuts showcase. Her journey to becoming the champion wasn’t easy, she actually is a return contestant who claimed the crown this year after coming close in last year’s competition but falling just short of the crown. “I almost didn’t want to try again,” Shae Harmony tells BOSSIP of her decision to re-enter the contest. “But the feedback the judges gave last year was very helpful. That down-to-earth critique gave me something concrete to focus on and I knew I had grown in the time from the last one so I decided to give it another go.” Courtesy Shae Harmony Shae, who works full time as a third-grade teacher in Atlanta’s public school system says she’s glad she came back, because she had a real connection with the other contestants, especially Triumph who hails from her same city in North Carolina. “Triumph’s dad David Payton was an accomplished playwright,” Shae recalled. “I actually sang Beyonce’s “Listen” in his play “You Betta Put That Woman First” when I was in high school so it was really good to reconnect with her.” Another bonus to the competition was the African Pride sponsored makeover — something that helped her feel at ease on stage. “I loved the makeover, everything about the wardrobe was so ‘Shae’,” the singer tells BOSSIP. Shae admits her biggest battle has always been nerves. The southern beauty says she’s always been one to sing around the house, but her shyness held her back from fully shining when she was young. Shae Harmony “I guess I was probably 8 or so when I did my first performance for church,” Shae recalls. “I was so shy, but after that the y MADE me join the choir.” “My family really pushed me to use my gift growing up and constantly reminded me that my God-given talent shouldn’t be wasted.” She may have gotten her start in the church, but both her look and sound has been amplified with a confidence and sex appeal she wasn’t afraid to show. Nerves may have gotten the best of her in last year’s competition but there was no stopping her this time around! “I just really worked on being comfortable,” Shae said, revealing that the battle round was another tough challenge. “Songwriting is something you either have or you don’t. I just tried to think about what black love, which was my theme, meant to me. I definitely did my best but that was one of the things I wasn’t sure about because the competition was really strong as well.” With the competition behind her, Shae’s got her sights set on even bigger challenges. Her first single “Be Careful” is currently on iTunes and she’s planning to shoot a video in March that will also be released this month. Shae also says she’s at work on her first EP which she hopes to release this spring. It’s been almost three years since the world learned that Josh Duggar molested five young girls , four of whom were his sisters. Initially, it looked as though the scandal would bring an end to the Duggars’ wildly lucrative media empire, especially after Josh was caught cheating on his wife using an online account he created solely for that purpose. In that time, the rest of Josh’s family has gone to great pains to distance themselves from the disgraced former lobbyist. He rarely appears on any of his siblings’ social media pages, and the Duggars have gone to such great lengths to keep Josh off their popular reality show that he was once digitally erased from a scene in Counting On . These days, Josh works on a used car lot owned by his father, and while he’s still invited to family functions, sources say he’s mostly cut off from his siblings and parents. Along with his wife and five children, Josh lives in a separate town, attends a separate church, and has little involvement in the day-to-day lives of his more famous family members. Josh’s parents helped him to avoid criminal prosecution, but there’s a modicum of comfort in knowing he has at least paid some small price for his deplorable actions. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that Josh’s exile had led him to change his ways. In a recent discussion on Reddit, one verified user described himself thusly: “I live in Springdale and my uncle and aunt go to the same home church as the Duggars. They’ve attended my church multiple times and I’ve hung out with them at family camps and home school retreats a lot. “There seems to be a huge misconception that they’re insane (I grew up around this so my definition is probably different than yours) but if you have any questions I can try to clear anything up to the best of my ability.” He encouraged other users to ask him questions about the Duggars’ lifestyle and not surprisingly, it wasn’t long before the conversation turned to Josh. Asked if the family seems happy despite the tumultuous events of the past three years, the Springdale resident had this to say: “Honestly, yes, the only one who seems like she’s miserable is Anna. And as someone who has met Josh multiple times, he’s not someone who seems like he’d be a whole lot of fun to be married too.” He elaborated: “[Josh] just stares at every girl he meets like she is an object for him to do something with.” “Most of the Duggar boys are very respectful and are good at keeping their eyes up — Josh never has been, and I know he was reprimanded a lot for his wandering eyes as a kid,” the source adds. Obviously, it’s disturbing to think that Josh’s parents may have ignored early warning signs of potentially deviant behavior. But it’s even more disturbing to think the father of five may not have changed his ways. Sadly, with the wall of secrecy the Duggars have built up around themselves, it seems extremely unlikely that any further misconduct from Josh would ever become public knowledge. Hailey Baldwin’s in a bikini to for attention as she clickbaits her way to fame, while the other girls she sucks up to and mooches off of, are out making babies that would be better off being abortions, but that are marketing hooks to keep the family getting paid…she knows her time is almost here. The most interesting thing about this D-List actors daughter, other than her bikini top pics, is that her D-List dad actor is a business partner of the MYPILLOW.COM guy…another ex drug addict turned Christian, who exploits the church for his own personal gain, in selling pillows on informercials…. And everytime I see her I think “My PILLOW DOT COM”…. That’s how branding, marketing, and product placement works…and really that’s the level of product, you know the NOT QUITE ON QVC, level of MYPILLOW.COM that Hailey should be marketing, but somehow people think she’s important or more important than she is and give her actual jobs promoting things…. Last week, Jana Duggar celebrated her birthday . Along with her twin brother, John David, Jana turned 28–not a milestone age, but a very big deal to Duggar fans, nonetheless. Unfortunately for Jana, her birthday is a subject of fascination for reasons that aren’t entirely celebratory, Jana is still single , which is a fact that seems to astonish many fans of her famous family. John David is unattached as well, but as a man, his love life–or lack thereof–is not as heavily scrutinized. Women in the Duggar family are taught from a young age that procreation is their primary reason for being. Several of Jana’s younger sisters have already married and started families of their own, which is one of the reasons that fans are baffled by the fact that Jana remains childless. It’s an unexpected situation, to be sure, and while there are many rumored reasons circulating around social media, it seems Jim Bob is just as baffled as anyone else when it comes to why Jana is still single. Over the weekend, Jim Bob appeared at an event organized by the Institute for Basic Life Principles in Kilsyth South Baptist Church in Kilsyth South, Victoria. Amateur video from the event shows the Duggar patriarch uncomfortably joking about Jana’s refusal to marry. “And Jana is–actually, back in the U.S., it’s her birthday,” Jim Bob says in video of the speech. “Jana is 28-years-old and still single, so she’s still praying about the one.” On Reddit, most Duggar fans were quick to defend Jim Bob’s sense of humor. “I wasn’t there but I assumed it was just a dad joke. He makes a lot of them especially on the old episodes of the original show,” commented one user. “Women have a biological clock. Men generally don’t. It’s more notable for a woman to be single and childless after a certain age. This is not unique to the Duggars,” wrote another. At least one fan, however, was quick to point out the insensitivity of Jim Bob’s remarks: “What I do wonder is–what’s Jim Bob’s angle with that joke? Is it just a standard-issue dorky dad joke that he’s too oblivious to realize could be seen as hurtful?” the Redditor wrote. “Does he know it’s a sensitive subject, so he’s trying to diffuse it with humor? Is ol’ JB a little salty that lovely, talented Jana isn’t playing along with the real Duggar family business: marrying off its children for profit?” We may never know just what’s going on in Jim Bob’s head–and that’s probably a good thing. Derick Dillard sure does love being the worst, right? He’s always been … well, he’s never been that great, but for the past few months, he’s really been trying to be just awful. For some reason, back in August he decided to publicly attack Jazz Jennings , a teenage girl who also has a show on the TLC network. He did this because Jazz is transgender, and he felt (and still feels, we’re sure) that he had the ability and the right to announce to the world that being transgender is not a real thing. “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality,” he tweeted. “‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.” Or maybe Jazz knows herself better than Derick knows her, could that be possible? When he started getting some backlash for his dumb remark, he doubled down on his ignorance, writing “I want to be clear. I have nothing against him. I only have issues with the words and definitions being propagated here.” Except Jazz isn’t a “him,” she’s a “her,” and if he really wanted to take issue with “words and definitions,” perhaps he shouldn’t have called a sweet girl he doesn’t even know “a non-reality.” A few days after that, Derick seemed to reference the situation yet again, tweeting “It seems the truth is relative these days. So glad my God is the same yesterday, today, and forever! His word is always perfect! #Hebrews13.” Ugh. Since then, he’s been retweeting transphobic quotes, he’s been supporting a boycott of Target because of their policy of letting transgender people use the correct bathrooms. And last month, he went after Jazz AGAIN , tweeting “I pity Jazz, 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions to be made by a child.” “It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way. Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on tv these days.” His obsession with Jazz is so bizarre, and given that she is a child, it’s extra inappropriate. And considering the fact that she’s a child who also happens to technically be a co-worker of his? It’s no wonder TLC kicked him to the curb . Shortly after that last tirade against Jazz, TLC tweeted from their official account that “We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in Counting On for months. The network has no plans to feature him in the future.” “We want to reiterate that Derick’s personal statements do not reflect the views of the network. TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so.” So that seems pretty clear, right? TLC obviously didn’t appreciate Derick’s words, and so the Dillards are gone from our televisions. And not a moment too soon! A few days after that, Derick addressed the issue , again on Twitter. He wrote “Thank you to all those who have supported us and given us so many words of encouragement recently. God bless you all!” But this weekend, he’s been sharing bit of a different view. For some reason, he decided to tweet a link to a story that was published last month — one about his firing. “Unbelievable what’s considered newsworthy these days, but then again, this is how I first heard that I was ‘fired,'” he wrote. “For the record, I was never fired. I just felt it best for my family to cut ties months ago, as we are heading in a different direction.” Oh, OK. Sure. Someone replied, mocking him for thinking that people would actually believe that he quit the show that surely paid him a nice salary for doing next to nothing. “Think again,” Derick responded. “I only left my accounting job because I was offered a missions job with SOS. And yes, we were commissioned missionaries, endorsed by our church.” “Please be careful where you get your information. There’s a lot of garbage out there, that has no fiber of truth.” Is he trying to say that TLC didn’t pay him for appearing on Counting On? Source: Victor Boyko / Getty Lil Peep (born Gus Ahr) was remembered by family, friends and fans at a memorial service in Long Beach, New York Saturday (December 2nd). The service also reached thousands of Peep’s fans via live stream, where it now lives on YouTube. Lil Peep’s mother Liza Womack , spoke proudly of her son’s legacy. “He lived his own life on his own terms,” she declared. “He was a stubborn, driven, talented, crafty, observant, and tender young man. Gus was also vulnerable.” Peep’s grandmother Jenny Kastner read letters from fans while visitors were encouraged to write messages on a memorial banner in honor of the late rapper. Rock band Good Charlotte paid homage by performing a rendition of Peep’s song “Awful Things”, which was shown towards the end of the service. Tobacco giant R.J. Reynolds , the top seller of Newport cigarettes — the most favored by many black smokers — has been enlisting black groups, leaders, and activists, including Rev. Al Sharpton and ex-Florida Congressman Kendrick B. Meek, to hold meetings at prominent black churches on the theme of “Decriminalizing the Black Community.” A FairWarnings report notes that the company “is seizing on the hot-button issue of police harassment of blacks to counter efforts by public health advocates to restrict menthol sales.” The report goes on to say that “Sharpton and Meek, along with speakers from groups involved in criminal justice reform, have warned of the unintended consequences of banning” menthol cigarettes. The meetings have been held at churches in cities including Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and Oakland. There’s concern that banning the minty cancer sticks will create an underground market and give police new reasons to harass and lock up black males. R.J. Reynolds has reportedly paid travel costs for the panelists and contributed to their organizations. However, promotional flyers (here, here and here) suggest that Sharpton and his National Action Network are the main sponsors of the meetings, rather than the tobacco company. Anti-smoking advocates have blasted the campaign as deceptive and a scare tactic. “How can the tobacco industry care about criminalization when they don’t even care about killing you?’’ said LaTrisha Vetaw, who attended a Jan. 25 meeting at the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis, where a few dozen people turned out to hear Sharpton and be treated to a lunch of chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and cake. Sharpton led protests against police abuses following the death of Eric Garner, who was choked out by a psycho cop in 2014 for selling untaxed single cigarettes. Sharpton has not made up his mind about a menthol ban, according to a tape of the meeting. “I am not on either side of the argument,” he said. ”I want to hear and listen.” He expects the National Action Network to take a position on a menthol ban at its convention in April. In an interview with FairWarning, Sharpton said Meek, a Reynolds consultant who serves as moderator at the meetings, ”asked us to consider the unintended consequences of a menthol ban,” and also asked him to appear at several of the churches. Meanwhile, Najee Ali — Sharpton’s political director of NAN in Los Angeles — issued the following statement to EUR regarding the issue: I was paid a small sum to invite a group of leading South L.A community leaders for a private presentation on the [tobacco issue] a few weeks ago. But after listening to the presentation myself I realized that I didn’t want an association with a corporation that is responsible for so much death, disease, and suffering. I apologized to all my colleagues I had invited afterwards. This is a modern day example of an old tobacco industry tactic. The tobacco industry has a long history of co-opting community leaders and organizations through financial donations and sponsorship. In doing so, the tobacco industry is able to buy silence. The tobacco industry has been spending money for decades to create beautiful lies to hide the ugly truth. Those lies are spread by community leaders who should be ashamed of themselves for selling out and selling death to those who believe and trust them. I’m not sure what Rev Sharpton, or Rev K.W.Tulloss the Western Regional Director of the National Action Network position is on this. But I trust and support them. They can speak for themselves.
