It Turns Out Christians Have More Abortions Than Any Other Religious Group In America

A majority of the women thought their church members would be more likely to gossip about a woman considering an abortion than to help her understand her options.

Emanuel AME Will Be Donating $1.5 Million To The Charleston Church Shooting Victims

Emanuel AME To Donate $1.5 Million To Charleston Church Shooting Victims A little good news for Charleston church shooting survivors and families of the nine victims killed that fateful night. Per AP : Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church will donate about $1.5 million of the $3.4 million given in the wake of the June 17 shooting to an organization that collected money for the victims called Charleston’s Hope Fund, according to a news release sent Wednesday to local media. Close to $3 million has been raised for the families of those killed and the five survivors inside the church by Charleston’s Hope Fund. Even though nearly all the money was specifically donated to the church, members felt it was important to share with those who suffered the most, said the Rev. Norvel Goff, interim pastor of Emanuel AME. “The church, in its benevolence has made what we feel is a tremendous gift out of honor to the victims’ families and the survivors, too. We continue the healing process, but this marks a passage in that healing,” Goff said in the statement. The church will use the remaining funds for building improvements, scholarships, community outreach projects and a permanent memorial for victims and survivors.

Anonymous "RickRolls" ISIS as Part of Awesome Anti-Terror Campaign

The November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris outraged the world and united leaders in their efforts to degrade and destroy ISIS. But while armed forces from several nations wage war in the Middle East, the hacker group Anonymous is using less traditional weapons to undermine ISIS’s online recruitment and propaganda campaigns. Yes, the world’s most powerful terrorist organization is now experiencing the power of the RickRoll: Rick Astley: “Never Gonna Give You Up” As you probably know, Rickrolling is the practice of tricking someone into clicking on a link to the music video for Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” It’s usually something your douchiest Facebook friend does on April Fool’s Day, but in the right hands, RickRolling can be a powerful tool for making the worst kinds of people look like the jackasses they are. The Foo Fighters RickRolled the Westboro Baptist Church back in August, proving once and for all that Dave Grohl ranks amongst the coolest mo-fos on the planet. Now, Anonymous is using the Astley’s 1987 ear-worm to seriously confuse the hell out of some potential ISIS recruits. Via the #OpParis Twitter account, Anonymous announced last week that they’ve begun “spamming ISIS hashtags with rickrolls.” It may seem like an odd way to combat terror, but Twitter has proven to be a powerful communication tool for ISIS in the past, and replacing their tweets with the dulcet tones of Mr. Astley’s surprisingly baritone vocals not only stops them from spreading their messages of hate, it also publicly humiliates them in hilarious fashion. So keep on RickRolling, Anonymous. We know you’ll never let us down. Foo Fighters RickRoll Westboro Baptist Church: Watch!

Plot Twist: Black Man Arrested For Burning Down Black Churches

Black Man Arrested For Burning Down Black Churches Last week, we reported that someone was running around and setting fire to a number of Black churches all around Ferguson , Missouri, the site of Michael Brown’s murder at the hands of the police. Given the city’s racial tension following last year’s unrest, authorities weren’t ruling out the possibility that a racist was behind the church burnings. But as it turns out, the arsonist may have been a Black man. Via The Atlantic: St. Louis-area police have arrested David Lopez Jackson, a 35-year-old black man, in connection with the burning of churches around the area. Jennings has been charged with two counts of second-degree arson. There have been seven fires in St. Louis and nearby Jennings over the course of October. The arsons struck a range of denominations, but mostly black churches. A sixth church was racially mixed, while the seventh was predominantly white. The fires ran the gamut from minimal to serious damage. Because of the long history of arson attacks on black churches—including several this summer and a long spree in the mid-1990s—and because of the tense race relations in St. Louis since the death of Michael Brown in August 2014, the fires immediately raised the specter of hate crimes. Indeed, the suspect arrested Thursday is black, and authorities didn’t offer any indication about a motive during a news conference Friday afternoon. Police have only charged Jackson with fires at the New Life Missionary Baptist Church and Ebenezer Lutheran, but they said he’s a suspect in the others. His car was spotted near the New Life, and forensic evidence tied him to Ebenezer; there were also gas containers in his car, police said. All seven fires were similar in type and location, generally around doors. Plot twist like a mofo! Will be interesting to hear his reasoning for burning down Black churches and adding fuel to to the city’s racial tension. Twitter

In White Folks News: Leah Remini Spills On Weird Azz Tom Cruise And Scientology

Leah Remini Tom Cruise Scientology 20/20 Interview Tom Cruise has been getting the side-eye since he went bat sh*t crazy and famously hopped on Oprah’s couch in 2005. And that side-eye definitely won’t be going anywhere after actress Leah Remini spilled the tea on Tom and that crazy white people “religion” — Scientology. In her 20/20 sit-down interview which aired Friday, Leah revealed she was just a child when she signed a “billion year contract” to swear allegiance to the church. She also revealed living the “roach-infested” struggle while living at the church’s headquarters. Via THR: During her time at Sea Org, Remini admitted in the interview that “you live in roach-infested dorms with other children” and “could go from working in a laundry room to working industrial sanders.” Though she was “learning how to learn Scientology” and the food “didn’t taste like food and you had to get it at a certain time,” she considered the church her home. But during her one-year involvement at Sea Org, Remini and her then-boyfriend partook in physical actions the church deemed inappropriate. “I allowed my boyfriend at the time … to go like this over my shirt,” she said while lighting touching her breast over her shirt. Remini remarked the action was a church violation and she was threatened to be put in the rehabilitation project force. “When you have screwed up royally in the Sea Org, it’s basically to reform you. You have to wear black, you have to run everywhere you go, you have to call everyone sir. It’s pretty severe punishment for an adult, not to mention a child.” Remini said. Hit the flip for what she says about Tom Cruise’s wacky behavior, which included “forcibly kissing” Katie Holmes and trying desperately to recruit Jennifer Lopez.

BOSSIP Exclusive: Meet Charles Perry, The New Singer Steeped In Old School

Charles Perry’s New Album Takes Its Cues From Back In The Day Soul singer Charles Perry has one foot stuck firmly in the past – and that’s how he likes it. The Brooklyn musician borrowed from genres of yesteryear for his new album, “The Soul Superhero,” which pays homage to the old school with elements of funk, rock, R&B and pop. One highlight is “Panty Drop,” a doo-wop inflected, Little Richard-inspired ode to dropping the drawers that Perry said was inspired by his late grandfather, who also sang. “I’m still stuck in that time,” Perry told BOSSIP. “That’s what’s in my ear everyday. They get sick of me playing these records, but I can’t.” Perry was raised in a strict Baptist family and grew up singing in the church. He said he’d sneak and listen to his father’s record collection, taking in songs from artists like Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, James Brown and the Rev. James Moore. “That sound came from the greats,” Perry said. “That time, I call it the ‘Golden Years,’ when singing was singing.” Perry’s musical perspective and knack for holding a tune drew the attention of the late gospel singer Ronald Winans when Perry was just eight years old. Winans approached him after he’d performed with his choir at the McDonalds Gospel Fest. “He said, ‘that’s a gift from God,’” Perry recalled. “‘You can’t play with that.’ That really stood out to me. That was a turning point for me.” Winan’s accolade was the push Perry needed to devote his life to music, and the end result was the album. He said his biggest critic – his 13-year-old, Prince Josiah – has already given it the seal of approval. “He loves it,” Perry said. “He’s excited. He thinks it’s cool. That’s alright by me.” Continue reading

Racist Arsonists Burned Down Five Black Churches In Ferguson, MO In 9 Days

Black Churches Burned In Ferguson Over the last week and a half, someone has been setting fire to Black churches all over Ferguson, Missouri , the site of Michael Brown’s murder by police and the civil unrest that ensued for months thereafter last year. The Fire captain has deemed the burnings definite arson, and the crime is being looked at as a potential hate crime. Via CBSnews : “It is arson. That’s why law enforcement is involved in this entire investigation,” said Captain Garon Mosby of the St. Louis Fire Department. Mosby would not rule out the possibility of a hate crime directed either at churches or at African-Americans. “My job is to love (them),” said Pastor David Triggs of New Life Missionary Baptist Church. “And I’ve forgiven this individual. We are going to tear down and rebuild.” There have been at least four previous fires at area churches but there are no details if any of them are connected, however, investigators say they have all started the same way: in the front two doors of the church. Since Oct. 8, fire has damaged five churches, all within a few miles of each other in north St. Louis city and county. In each case, the front doors were set on fire. Damage has ranged from a few hundred dollars at one church to the near destruction of another. The fires add to racial angst in an area still reeling from a police shooting and unrest in Ferguson last year. SMH! The racial issues in this area are clearly far from over. Hopefully they can find who is responsible before more places of worship go up in flames… CBS News Continue reading
