Via MailOnline : A nine-year-old girl has been shot dead in Missouri as she lay doing her homework on her mom’s bed. Jamyla Bolden, of Ferguson, was killed on Tuesday after a gunman opened fire on the family’s home. Her father, James Bolden, issued a heart-breaking plea for anyone with information to come forward, as police have released no information about possible leads and no arrests have yet been made. ‘Don’t just do it for me. Do it for her. Do it for a nine-year-old child that didn’t even get to see the rest of the world,’ he told local news channel KMOV. ‘I never in a million years thought that I’d be laying my daughter to rest.’ Police believe the shooter fired from close range into the house, also wounding Jamyla’s 34-year-old mother in the leg. It is believed the gunman stood close to the front of the house before opening fire through the bedroom window. So sad!! SMH. Hopefully they can catch whoever did this…

Drake Addresses OVO Fest Shooting Though he’s been silent on the incident for the past week, Drake is finally breaking his silence on the violent shootout outside an official OVO Fest after party that ultimately resulted in the deaths of two people. Drake posted this message via his official website : The last few days I have been in a moral bind. I am used to the fact that my life and the things I say to my fans are closely watched. It’s tough in situations like this where there’s a tragedy and I consider the advice of my trusted advisors and counsel who worry that anything I might say could be misinterpreted. However, today I am choosing to follow my heart. I am plagued and pained by the violence that continues to escalate in our city. I stare into the eyes of so many young people and I wish to see them all shine as bright as they possibly can in this lifetime. I encourage my generation to show as much value and gratitude as you can for the lives we have been gifted. My deepest condolences go out to the Navarro-Fenoy and Hibbert families for their loss of Ariela and Duvel. Along with them I send my condolences to all of the families that have lost loved ones to the senseless violence that has and continues to occur in our city. Although Toronto is globally viewed as a major city, at the core we are still a small close-knit community, and it is our public responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of one another. We need each other to further our communities for generations to come. I pray for better times and better understanding. – DRAKE

Ferguson, Missouri Under State Of Emergency After Peaceful Protest Turns Violent *sigh* Via USAToday St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger declared a state of emergency Monday after Ferguson protests on the anniversary of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown by a police officer turned violent overnight. “In light of last night’s violence and unrest in the city of Ferguson, and the potential for harm to persons and property, I am exercising my authority as county executive to issue a state of emergency effective immediately,” Stenger said in a statement. “The recent acts of violence will not be tolerated in a community that has worked so tirelessly over the last year to rebuild and become stronger.” St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar is immediately taking control of policing in Ferguson, under the order. At least three people were shot and four arrested overnight Monday as peaceful protests on Sunday became violent. Belmar told a news conference at 3:30 a.m. that one suspect who was shot by police is in “critical, unstable” condition in a local hospital and undergoing surgery. We can only hope that the brother who was shot pulls through and is able to recount his story. Speaking Monday at the national conference of the Fraternal Order of Police in Pittsburgh, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said she “strongly condemned’’ the violence in Ferguson. “As we have seen over the recent months and years, not only does violence obscure any message of peaceful protest, it places the community, as well as the officers who seek to protect it, in harm’s way,’’ Lynch said. “Incidents of violence, such as we saw last night, are contrary to both that message, along with everything that all of us, including this group, have worked to achieve over the past year.” Cornel West, and several prominent protesters including DeRay McKesson, 30, and Johnetta Elzie, 26, were arrested Monday afternoon during a protest outside the U.S. courthouse in St. Louis. The demonstration was part of a move by several clergy members to purposefully be detained by police. With the state of emergency officially declared, the national guard is now primed to deploy and further escalate the tension amongst the peaceful protesters and the anxious police. We hope and pray that tonight’s protest doesn’t mirror last year’s scenes of tear gas, tanks and terror. Image via AP
