Usually, when we report on Brian Williams, it means that the NBC Nightly News anchor has been featured in another hilarious Jimmy Fallon lip dub , or perhaps that his daughter was motorbutted on Girls . Unfortunately, our favorite newsman is at the heart of a much more serious story this week, as allegations that he lied about being shot down in helicopter while covering the Iraq War in 2003 have led to demands that Williams be suspended or even fired. Williams had told the heroic tale on several occasions over the past 12 years, each time recalling the events in exactly the same fashion. When he shared the story during his January 30 broadcast, however, several soldiers who were on the scene that day cried foul, forcing Williams to apologize and admit that he had “misremembered” the events in question. Brian Williams Apologizes Now, more stories of Williams heroism in the line of duty are being questioned, and the future of the revered journalists’ career is suddenly in doubt. Critics of Williams are now questioning his claims that he contracted dysentery and watched dead bodies float past his hotel while covering Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The New York Post claims Williams stayed in an area of the city that was not affected by flooding and that doctors tell them not a single case of dysentery was reported during Katrina. The Post also claims that former Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw is calling for Williams’ head, reportedly telling sources that he is “extremely uncomfortable” with Williams lies and that “a lesser producer or journalist would have been immediately fired for a false report.” This is not the first scandal that’s threatened the integrity of NBC News in recent months. Back in October, the network’s chief medical expert Dr. Nancy Snyderman violated her Ebola quarantine after returning from Africa. Ferguson Spokesman Suspended For Calling Mike Brown A Pile Of Trash Via The Grio reports: The Ferguson Police Department has suspended a spokesman after he referred to the Michael Brown memorial as “a pile of trash.” A statement the city provided to The Associated Press on Sunday didn’t identify the officer who made the remark to The Washington Post. The newspaper attributed the comment to Officer Tim Zoll. The memorial at the site of Brown’s death was damaged last week after a car apparently hit it. Zoll doesn’t have a listed number and couldn’t be reached by the AP. The city says the spokesman denied making the comment, but later admitted that he’d misled his bosses. He has been placed on unpaid leave while “disciplinary proceedings” begin. Stirring the pot Via NYPost One of Eric Garner’s daughters marked Christmas Day by spreading personal information about an NYPD cop who was present during the chokehold death of her father — outraging officers still reeling from last weekend’s execution-style slayings of two policemen in Brooklyn. Erica Garner tweeted that cop Justin D’Amico was “another officer that helped killed [sic] my dad,” and directed her 5,000-plus Twitter followers to a Web page that lists addresses for D’Amico and five possible relatives. The information was viewed about 500 times before Garner’s stunning tweet was deleted following inquiries by The Post. The move came less than a week after a gunman fatally shot cops Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, following the shooter’s online post that said he planned to avenge the police killings of Eric Garner on Staten Island and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. The NYPD had strong and ugly words for Erica following her tweet An NYPD source said Erica Garner’s “disgusting” tweet “poses grave danger” to D’Amico. “She clearly wants someone to go to the officer’s house and assassinate him in cold blood just like Ramos and Liu,” the source said. The head of the NYPD sergeants union, Ed Mullins, called the tweet “terrible behavior that continues to cause divisive actions throughout the city.” “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” Mullins added. D’Amico got immunity to testify before the Staten Island grand jury that earlier this month cleared fellow cop Daniel Pantaleo in Eric Garner’s July 17 death while he was being arrested for illegally peddling loose cigarettes. Garner family lawyer Jonathan Moore, who is preparing a $75 million suit against the city, didn’t deny that Erica Garner posted the tweet, but maintained that she “did not have any knowledge of what was in those links.” “Nobody in the Garner family, including Erica, would consciously send information out about the personal address or phone number or any identifying information about the police officers, particularly after what happened to those two officers,” Moore said. That said, Erica is angry, but she’s gotta understand that she’s hurting everybody when she does stuff like this. Dissension among the ranks 911 Operators Argue Over Shot Police Officers Via NYDailyNews A war of words erupted in the city’s 911 call center Saturday over allegations two operators made “anti-police” remarks after the assassinations of two cops, the Daily News has learned. The fracas occurred when news broke that Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu had been shot execution-style by a deranged gunman, sources said. The remarks were allegedly made by a couple of the 911 operators who handle NYPD calls — and two Fire Department dispatchers in earshot got heated in response, sources said. The alleged comment that created the most friction was when one said the cops had “deserved it,” said a law enforcement source. That started a shouting match with two FDNY dispatchers. The comments made one of them “sick to his stomach” and he moved to another desk to avoid getting into a bigger fight, sources said. The workers were in the 911 call center in Brooklyn’s MetroTech Center — but the spat was only between the FDNY and cop operators. None of the city’s EMS operators were involved, sources said.
