Less inferno than slow burn, Rob Zombie’s retro witch thriller The Lords of Salem has plenty of portent but not much payoff. Likely to disappoint die-hard fans of The Devil’s Rejects and other Zombie atrocities, this milder brew still has ’70s-esque style to spare and sports a likable lead perf by Sheri Moon Zombie as a DJ seemingly spun by Satan’s spawn into the lower depths. Theatrical play will pale beside the pic’s ancillary afterlife, although “Lords” isn’t potent enough to rule in either realm. With torture porn having been snuffed out many moons ago, Zombie hasn’t picked a bad time to tone himself down. Still, as even PG-rated horror has a duty to deliver on some level, the helmer’s narrative dead end here registers not as a lack of nerve so much as a lack of imagination. Following a tongue-in-cheek prologue set in the late 1600s and showing a witches’ coven getting burned to a crisp, we arrive in the present day, which for Zombie looks and sounds a helluva lot like 1974. Recovering addict Heidi ( Sheri Moon Zombie in blond dreadlocks), who lives in a rundown Boston apartment, and co-host of the latenight “Salem Rocks” show, thinks she sees someone or something moving around the unrented unit down the hall. Then at work, she gets an ancient-looking vinyl platter from a band called the Lords that freaks her out even more. Full of cacophonous bow-sawing and mumbled incantations, this patently avant-garde long-player goes out over the airwaves and puts even listeners at home in a trance. Several scares later and poor Heidi is back on the crackpipe, making it tough for the viewer to tell whether her subsequent visions of the damned are drug-induced or directed by a force even more malevolent than Zombie. Meanwhile, the exhaustive research of occult scholar Francis Matthais ( Bruce Davison ) puts him in the company of three middle-aged women ( Patricia Quinn, Dee Wallace, Judy Geeson ) so antiquatedly hospitable, they could pass as pure evil in some quarters. All of this builds to Heidi being transported by some means or another to 17th-century Salem but not much farther, as the pic simply poops out around the 90-minute mark, leaving an end-credits sequence where an ending ought to be. In terms of tech credits, The Lords of Salem has its virtues. A handful of setpieces come on like vintage Ken Russell , with Sheri Moon Zombie, her face painted a ghostly white, looking like a human sacrifice or Marilyn Manson groupie . Brandon Trost’s color-bleached widescreen cinematography is particularly well suited to rendering the heroine’s dingy abode and the city’s autumnal chill. Zombie, having proven himself a connoisseur of gloomy ’60s and ’70s pop rock, here delivers another killer playlist, although his pick of the Velvet Underground’s “Venus in Furs” seems a touch obvious. Via NYDailyNews reports : Six people were strangled to death and one decapitated in the southern Mexican tourist resort of Cancun on Sunday, the state’s deputy attorney general said, in the latest mass killing to strike the city in the last few weeks. Police found the bodies of the five men and two women in a shack in the outskirts of Cancun, a major tourist destination on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, that has largely escaped the drug-related violence that has racked Acapulco, a faded tourist destination on the Pacific coast. “It looks like the victims were independent drug dealers without any links to any specific cartel,” said Juan Ignacio Hernandez, deputy attorney general of Quintana Roo state. Last month six people died and five were injured after two men opened fire in a bar on the outskirts of Cancun. In a separate incident, police on Sunday found the body of another man in Cancun who had been gagged, bound and wrapped in sheets. Police have made some arrests in this case, but it seems like there’s been no end in sight for the violence in Mexico, where some 70,000 people have been killed in the last six years! Shutterstock

In it, she thanks supporters who helped the family when they were forced into hiding after receiving numerous death threats. She writes that Zimmerman’s June 10 trial will ‘confirm’ the truth about the February 26, 2012 shooting that left the unarmed 17-year-old Martin dead. ‘April 11 2012 will be forever remembered by the Zimmerman family as the day the justice system failed us as Americans, and as a consequence an innocent man was arrested for a crime he did not commit, solely to placate the masses,’ she said. She later adds: ‘There was absolutely no justifiable reason my son should have been charged for a crime he didn’t commit and there was no just reason he should find himself incarcerated either.’ Zimmerman’s family has long said he is a victim of media manipulation and spin. They say the evidence has been clear all along that Zimmerman acted in self defense when he shot Martin once in the chest, killing him during a struggle. Gladys Zimmerman, who worked nearly three decades as a court clerk in Virginia, has never appeared publicly to speak about her son. She told News 13 in Orlando in a phone interview that she still has faith in the justice system, despite the charges against her son. Still, she warned that her son must be judged by an impartial jury. ‘It is imperative now more than ever that George receive fair treatment by the judicial system, as this is the quintessential birthright of every American,’ she wrote. She blamed news media for spinning the story about the Martin shooting and convincing the public that her son was a murderer. ‘The media, with the help of social media made it their prerogative to judge and sentence George before and after his arrest,’ she wrote. We ended up missing him by one minute! We left and then we saw girls who met Scrappy and Dan. We looked for them all over the city and my friends were like, “We won’t see them,” but I said “Never say never” and we ended up meeting them and got a picture! We went back to Justin’s hotel and saw Justin jumping in a car. My friend and I entered a contest on BieberFever and we waited for the email but we didn’t even have an account on there. Then a girl on Twitter gave us here code and stuff which meant that she would get the mail. We kept asking her and she was like, “YOU ARE GOING TO MEET JUSTIN BIEBER! CONGRATS!” We started crying and screaming, it was just crazy. We had to get the tickets at 4 p.m. We got there earlier and saw the tour buses. Then we got to meet more beliebers who also won and had a good time with them. When we got inside the tent, I was next to Justin and it was unbelievable. I tried to hug him but this guy pulled me away. I started crying and we all hugged each other. Then we got to our places and enjoyed the show. It was the best day of my life. I just want to tell everyone not to give up. Keep dreaming because anything is possible if you stay strong. People might tell you shit but don’t listen to what they say. My name is Victoria and I’m a Spanish Belieber who met Justin on March 16th, 2013. If someone had told me just a couple of months ago that I’d be writing this right now, I wouldn’t have believed it, but here I am. When I first knew that Justin was coming to Spain for the Believe Tour, I started to beg my parents for tickets until they finally gave in. I was very excited but just one month before the concert I had gathered enough money to afford one M&G ticket. There was a disadvantage though, they were sold out. The morning of February 19th I read that Ticketmaster was selling more M&G’s so I took that as my chance and bought it. I was so happy, I couldn’t believe I was going to meet my idol. After waiting for more than 7 long months for the day of the concert to come, it was finally here. I woke up early in the morning because of the excitement. My parents drove me to Barcelona, which is 350 km away from my city and where Justin was going to perform. First, I went to his hotel for a chance to see him but he didn’t come out because there were a lot of people. After one hour or so, I finally made it to the arena and the meet and greet line. I was shaking and almost in tears because I couldn’t believe that I was going to meet him. Before the meet and greet started we were told we couldn’t hug him nor kiss him and I started to get really nervous. Then, we got into the building and that’s when I saw Kenny and Alfredo, they were literally one foot away from me. I started to take pictures and trying to get their attention until they finally looked at me and waved. That’s when I thought – this is real, I’m here, I’m going to meet Justin. I knew Justin was behind those black curtains, and I just wanted time to freeze so I could take it all in. It was finally my time. I gulped down and got through the black curtains. He was standing there and he was perfect. He was wearing a white t-shirt with a black leather jacket and black jeans. He didn’t seem real and I couldn’t move. I was shocked but finally managed to say, “Hi Justin, can I hug you?” and he looked at me and came to hug me. That felt so unreal, I was being hugged by the person who saved my life plenty of times. Then I felt his hand in my shoulder and the photographer took the picture. Everything was very fast. When the picture was done, I looked at him and said, “Thank you for everything Justin, I love you” and he looked down at me and bit his lip while nodding. It was so sexy. I knew it was my moment to leave, even though I could have been standing there for hours. I said, “Have fun tonight, I love you” and he looked at me for the last time. When I got out, I started crying. Hugging Justin was the most special moment in my entire life. I remember looking at him for the last time and thinking “Whoa, this is the boy I’ve been watching in YouTube for such a long time. He’s that small kid from Canada” and I feel very proud of the person he’s become. I’m very honored to call him my idol. The concert was amazing too, obviously. He is so talented. I cried, danced, sang, shouted, laughed during the concert and it all felt really special. Thanks Justin for everything, I won’t ever forget that day. To the person who is reading this, you will meet Justin, believe me when I say that I was in the same place as you, reading everyone’s experiences with Justin but mine, and now I can honestly say that dreams do come true if you never give up.
