Ryan Reynolds Relives His Last Fist Fight

‘Safe House’ actor details the ‘quick little brawl’ he got into in Amsterdam when he was 20. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ryan Reynolds Photo: MTV News Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington get plenty of action in their new thriller “Safe House,” which revolves around Reynolds’ character trying to prevent the escape/kidnapping of a dangerous rogue CIA agent (Washington) from the safe house where he works. When MTV News caught up with Reynolds, we asked him why this story is more intriguing than most action thrillers, as well as whether he’s had any real-life fighting experience to bring an extra edge to his character. “It’s such a great character piece,” Reynolds said of the film’s appeal. “You have two characters that are obviously diametrically opposed but they’re sort of marching toward one another as opposed to away from one another. My character is an idealist, [Washington’s] is basically a sociopath. They’re taking slow, steady steps toward each other, and by the end they’re kind of integrating,” he explained. “Factor in Denzel Washington, who is one of the greatest living actors today, and [director] Daniel Espinosa, who is a young guy with a fresh take on the genre.” With regard to the hand-to-hand fighting in the film, we asked Reynolds to take us through the last time he was in an actual fight. “I was in Amsterdam and I was probably about 20,” Reynolds recalled. “People can wander around a little affected there, and this guy was on something funny and he just came at me. I don’t know what he did but he just came at me. I was 20 years old and it was all a blur. I ended up in this quick little brawl and then it was over. Then the next thing I knew the police were escorting me to the train station and asking me to leave. Not because I was in trouble, but because they thought, ‘If this guy sees you again, he’s going to stab you.’ I was escorted off the city limits.” Are you planning on seeing “Safe House”? STYLE ICON: Diddy Ran The City In His Mohawk

See the rest here:

Fewer people have held such influence over our culture like Diddy . From Bad Boy to Sean John, Mr. Combs has made almost as big of an impact on what we wear as he has on what we hear, evidenced in 2003 when he resurrected a long forgotten style trend born out of a simple mission: to run a marathon. Should Diddy Run This City Next? In September of that year, Combs announced that he’d become an advocate for children and on their behalf, would run the New York City Marathon. But the real attention grabber was his new haircut. Bald faded along the sides and cut to a steeple at the front of his dome, Diddy now sported an aerodynamic hybrid between a Lonnie Luster and a Dennis The Menace, that could only be called a fro-hawk. Get More: MTV Shows Combs longtime friend and barber Curtis Smith calls the cut the ‘9CHawkie’. When asked about the haircut – first popularized by Mr. T – Smith was quick to clarify that Diddy’s style choice wasn’t an homage to the A-Team. Nope, Sean Combs had been inspired by the then three-year-old Maddox Jolie , the adopted Cambodian son of actress Angelina. The barber spent several months perfecting the Entertainment Moguls ‘grown-man version’, which soon caught fire in barbershops throughout the nation, and stayed put. Combs didn’t win the marathon that year. But he did finish in an impressive 4 hours and 15 minutes and raised over $2 million for NYC kids. But almost equally as amazing, Diddy spawned a decade long trend that’s seen everyone from Chad Ocho Cinco to Duane Rock Johnson to even rapper Whiz Khalifa sport their own versions of the hawk. Who other than Diddy could take a toddler’s swag and turn it into a movement? ‘Avengers’ New Trailer Blasts Into Super Bowl

Marvel Studios debuts second full-length trailer during the game, as extended version appears on the flick’s official Facebook page. By Ryan J. Downey Chris Evans in “The Avengers” Super Bowl spot Photo: Marvel Captain America is from Brooklyn, New York, so he’s probably a Giants fan, right? Well, if the new trailer for “The Avengers” is any indication, Cap will have bigger things to think about than the Super Bowl this summer. The game was a big deal and all, but comic book movie fans also assembled in front of televisions and computers on Sunday (February 5) to watch a different group of uniformed supermen (and women) go to battle in ways we’ve never seen before. Marvel Studios debuted the second full-length trailer for the summer’s “Avengers,” and boy, did it deliver, true believers! An extended version appeared on the flick’s official Facebook page moments after the commercial aired during the game. Aliens, aliens, aliens! (Are those Skrulls? Kree? Asgardian something-or-others?) A Hulk-tastic climax, a bunch of alien craft getting smashed and the most action fans have seen yet from the Avengers: Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the man who brought them together in post-credits sequences across several movies, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). The trailer opens with the familiar images of carnage on the city streets: cars overturned, explosions. The voice of Jackson as Fury says, “The world has changed.” Evans, as Captain America, looks unimpressed as he untangles his hand wraps in what looks like a midcentury-style boxing gym. “At this point, I doubt anything would surprise me,” he comments. “We are hopelessly outgunned,” Fury says, as the Marvel logo unspools and quinjets land on an aircraft carrier. As he finishes that sentence, we see that he’s standing with Thor (and presumably the rest of the team). There are more explosions brought on by an alien craft, followed by Tony Stark (Iron Man) rising with a look of steadfast determination. A close-up of Mjolnir flying into Thor’s hand, followed by thunder and lightning. Iron Man’s feet as they land on a rooftop. “Mr. Stark,” Evans says. Downey answers: “Captain.” “It’s time,” Jackson says. A close-up of Captain America’s iconic shield. Iron Man in action. As the montage continues, Thor helps Cap up off the street. Black Widow swings, then kicks, then peers over her shoulder while a car crashes between the shots. Thor lands on top of a quinjet! A large group of bad guys leap toward the city! Cap protects himself and his team from an explosion with his shield, Hawkeye shoots an arrow as he falls toward the street. Cap runs from a laser beam, Iron Man flies directly toward a small armada of alien craft. “I still believe in heroes,” Fury says. The camera then pans around all of the Avengers assembled around one another in the street. Hawkeye draws back his bow, Widow taps a clip into her pistol and Cap raises his shield. “The Avengers: That’s what we call ourselves,” Stark says casually, making a drink behind a bar as the film’s primary villain approaches him ominously. ” ‘Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’-type thing.” “I have an Army!” declares Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s half-brother from Asgard. “We have a Hulk,” Stark answers, shortly before the extended trailer’s money shot: the Hulk roaring, smashing through glass and leaping high into the air, destroying several alien craft at once. He didn’t yell “Hulk smash!” — but he might as well have. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” writer/director Joss Whedon’s flick will unite Marvel’s Mightiest Heroes onscreen May 4. Mac Miller Makes His Picks For Next Big Pittsburgh MCs

Miller took MTV News back to the ‘Burgh and introduced us to some of his city’s hottest up-and-coming talent. By Rob Markman Mac Miller Photo: MTV News Yes, the world knows Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller , but Pittsburgh has a wealth of hip-hop talent. With the Steel City’s two breakout stars already accounted for, MTV News took a trip to the ‘Burgh to see who’s got next. “A lot of people are talented. There are just a million talented people out there,” Miller told MTV News when he took us on a tour through his hometown in December. Acts like Boaz, Chevy Woods, B White and Mayo of the 58’s, Jabari X and Varsity Squad have been repping Pittsburgh locally for some time now, and while Mac supports all the city’s homegrown talent, if he had to pick one act to break out nationwide, it would be the Come Up, a.k.a. the duo of Vinny Radio and Franchise. “I brought them on tour and I plan on bringing them out on tour, so if it’s up to me, they’re gonna be the next people that come out the ‘Burgh,” Miller said. “But there’s definitely a lot more people who could; it’s not just Vinny and Fran.” Mac Miller introduces Pittsburgh’s hottest producers. The Come Up exist as a part of a larger hip-hop collective called the 58’s, along with rappers B White and Mayo. That union exemplifies the type of unity that exists in Pittsburgh’s rap scene. “It’s a small city … so pretty much we’ve all been familiar with each other for a long time,” Franchise said. “Everybody in this city who’s pretty much doing it legit, we’ve all been trying to get it and put the city on.” Taylor Gang’s Chevy Woods echoed a similar sentiment. “Everybody’s hardworking, and it’s not like a big music scene out there, so when you got somethin’, you just go with it,” he said. “Everybody sees the light that shines on [Wiz Khalifa] and Mac [Miller] and now it’s trickling down to everybody else.” Wiz Khalifa motivates Pittsburgh’s up-and-coming artists. There is a pretty diverse group of rap characters that come out of Pittsburgh. Wiz is a hitmaker who dedicates a lot of his catalog to partying and getting high, while Mac embodies a youthful spirit. Boaz is street, and female MC Kellee Maize spits sociopolitical bars. “To be honest, I do think Boaz is right there on the cusp. I think I’m maybe close to the cusp too,” Kellee said, laughing. “I just bring that underground feel,” Boaz said, describing his deeply-rooted street sound. “I embrace the culture of that poverty line that I’m speaking about.” For years, Time Bomb has been a epicenter for Pittsburgh hip-hop. More than just a clothing store, Time Bomb has become a place for local ‘Burgh MCs to congregate and sling their mixtapes to hungry fans. The shop’s owner, Brick, has seen many young artists walk through his doors, including Miller and Khalifa. When it comes to the future of Pittsburgh hip-hop, Brick is a wide-eyed optimist. “I think Mac and Wiz opened the door, but there’s gonna be an army of producers, an army of rappers, and they’re gonna be all different. People know: Pittsburgh, it is what it is, it’s a hardworking town,” he said. “I can name 100 people, because I want everyone to make it from here, you understand? This is Pittsburgh.” Who do you believe will be the next rap act to emerge from Pittsburgh? Tell us in the comments! Take a look back at MTV News’ Back to the ‘Burgh with Mac Miller and see how we spotlighted the city’s vibrant hip-hop scene. Are ‘Pants Back’ Stars Like Their Characters?

‘I am like my character in that I am black,’ Jordan Carlos jokes to MTV News before tonight’s premiere. By Jocelyn Vena Sunkrish Bala, Elisabeth Hower and Jordan Carlos Photo: MTV News The characters on MTV’s new scripted series “I Just Want My Pants Back” are young, occasionally romantically challenged and always up for a good time. The show, set in New York, is a nonstop party that follows the lives of several twentysomethings trying to find love and find themselves in the Big Apple. The characters each play a role (sassy, neurotic, lustful) in their circle of friends, the same way that those other “Friends” did back in the 1990s. The show focuses on Jason, Tina and the rest of their Brooklyn-dwelling crew as they struggle with unemployment and general disaffection. But are the actors anything like their characters on the show? MTV News investigates. Jordan Carlos and Elisabeth Hower play the show’s only couple. Their characters, Eric and Stacey, are extremely driven (she goes to law school, he goes to med school) and very much in love, but for Carlos the similarities begin and end with only one trait. “I am a black person,” he joked. “I am like my character in that I am black.” Hower, almost on cue, added, “I am also a girl in real life,” before noting that there’s some part of those people in their real-life personas. “No, I think there’s a little bit of all of us in the characters. We all have to connect to our characters.” Meanwhile, Sunkrish Bala plays Bobby, the gang’s pal and the owner of their local bodega. Always quick with some sassy advice, Bala notes that, well, he’s not quite like Bobby. “I’m nothing like my character,” he said. “But I know a lot of guys like [him]. I have a relationship with guys [like that].” While one half of the cast finds it harder to relate to their small-screen counterparts, Kim Shaw and Peter Vack seem to relate a bit more to their characters on the show. With notes of “Sex and the City” thanks to the characters’ ups and downs in the romance department, Shaw plays the sexy, Samantha-esque Tina, while Vack plays Jason, the male hipster equivalent to Carrie Bradshaw. “We’re probably too much like them!” Shaw laughed. “I wish I was a little quicker with my words like Tina is. She says exactly what she’s thinking all the time. I think [Vack is] not as sexually deviant as Jason is on the show.” “Jason’s not a sexual deviant,” Vack protested. “I’m a romantic like Jason.” “I Just Want My Pants Back” premieres tonight at 11 p.m. ET, right after “Jersey Shore.” Stick with MTV’s Remote Control blog for more coverage of the show. Madonna Pitches Her Next Dream Film

Story focuses on a woman outcast from the English aristocrat and her ‘incredible’ romance with a Bedouin. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Madonna Photo: MTV News Madonna has examined love a lot over the course of her career. She’s written numerous songs on the subject. So, it comes as no surprise that when it comes to her work as a film director, the pop superstar enjoys breaking down complex, historical romances. Her new film, “W.E.,” which opens Friday, is all about one very famous, scandalous romance. It focuses on the tabloid romance between American divorc

Johnny Keyser, Lauren Gray Wow ‘American Idol’ Panel

Reis Kloeckner, Ethan Jones and Rachelle Lamb also fly through to Hollywood. By Adam Graham Steven Tyler on “American Idol” Photo: FOX In popular music, St. Louis might be known as the home of Chuck Berry or Nelly, but in the world of “American Idol,” it’s the city that hosted Carrie Underwood’s audition. “Idol” returned to the Gateway to the West on Thursday (February 2), hoping to find the show’s next megastar. And they got off on the right foot with contestant Johnny Keyser, 22, from Pompano Beach, Florida, who blew the judges away with his rendition of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” “Should we just vote now?” Steven Tyler asked only a few bars into the song. Keyser was quickly sped through to Hollywood and set a good tone for St. Louis. As did Lauren Gray, who works at her family’s one-stop wedding shop and sings in a wedding band with her father. Gray’s version of Adele’s “One and Only” left Jennifer Lopez’s mouth agape and had Randy Jackson calling her “fearless.” Lopez called her “one of the best female voices we’ve heard” and the three of them sent her on her way to Hollywood; later, when summing up the St. Louis auditions, Lopez said, “I have two words for today: Lauren Gray.” In all, 46 contestants were passed through to the Hollywood round. Among them was 20-year-old Reis Kloeckner, whose version of “Lean on Me” brought a tear to Tyler’s eye. “That was so beautiful. You made me cry. That’s how good that was just now,” Tyler said. Lopez and Jackson agreed and sent the pizza maker — whose name is pronounced “Reese” — through to the next round. Next up was 22-year-old Ethan Jones of Pontoon Beach, Illinois, a singer in a country band who belted out Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be” and bled through his audition, due to a cut on his forehead he accidentally opened up while in the waiting room. (Seriously, no one had a Band-Aid?) Jones earned three yes votes from the judges and hopefully stopped bleeding somewhere on the way to Hollywood. Rachelle Lamb, meanwhile, joined Portland auditioner Britnee Kellogg by singing a song directed toward an ex who did her wrong. The 26-year-old construction worker sang Faith Hill’s “Dearly Beloved” (which she referred to as “Find Somebody New”) and earned a passing grade from the judges; maybe she and Kellogg can team up come Hollywood. With the audition phase now over — in voice-over, Ryan Seacrest called them “the most successful road auditions we’ve ever had” — the dreaded/ feared/ beloved Hollywood Week kicks off next week. What did you think of Thursday’s “Idol”? Were these “the most successful road auditions ever”? Let us know in the comments! Perverted Priests: Former Irish Catholic Priest Who Is A Known Molester Jailed For 3 Years For Possession Of Children’s X-Rated Material

3 years is all this nasty f**k gets??? A defrocked Roman Catholic priest who admitted molesting more than 20 children in California has been sentenced to three years in prison in Ireland for possessing child pornography, court officials said Tuesday. Oliver O’Grady, 66, was arrested in Dublin in December 2010 after leaving a computer containing pornographic images of children on a flight from Amsterdam. O’Grady worked in northern California from 1971 until 1993, when he was arrested for abusing two brothers. He served seven years in prison and was deported to his native Ireland in 2000. He later moved to the Netherlands for several years. O’Grady was the subject of the Academy Award-nominated 2006 documentary “Deliver Us From Evil.” In the film he spoke openly of abusing more than 20 children as he was shuffled from one parish to another in California through the 1970s and 80s. The Dutch Catholic Church came under fire in 2010 after it emerged that O’Grady had been working as a church volunteer in the city of Rotterdam. O’Grady had been living in the country under another name, but parishioners recognized him when “Deliver Us from Evil” was aired on Dutch television. By that time, the disgraced ex-cleric had already left the country. O’Grady had pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing child pornography. The Irish Courts Service said he was sentenced Monday at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Source More On Bossip! EWWWW!!! What In The Everloving Hell Is Dripping Down Christina Aguilera’s Leg?!?!?!?!
