Zoe Kravitz In ASOS: On Best Friend Jay-Z & Uncomfortable “It Girl” Title [PHOTOS]

See the original post here:

Zoe Kravitz covers ASOS magazine’s July 2011 issue. Inside, she talks the “it girl” label that follows her everywhere, struggling to be best friends with Jay-Z, her parents’ style and discipline, and her latest films! She may be New York rock royalty, but the actress is flea market-loving geek at heart. On being labeled an “it-girl”: “All that ‘it-girl’ sh*t makes me kind of uncomfortable. I’m only at the beginning of my career, but I feel successful in that I haven’t sold out in any way, shape or form. I feel good about the choices I’ve made, and I don’t feel like I’ve let go of any of my values. Fame has become this obsession for people, which kind of creeps me out.” On Jay-Z: “I’d met Jay a few times, and then he asked me to be in his video for ‘I Know.’ After that we became really good friends and now he’s one of my favorite people. It sounds so weird when you say it because he’s f***ing Jay-Z! But what’s so weird is that he’s such a cool guy that sometimes I wish he wasn’t Jay-Z so we could hang out all day long and walk around and talk sh*t because I love him.” On being inspired by her mom, Lisa Bonet: “She walked away from being famous, because she didn’t really care about it. She is the most true artist I have met. She doesn’t change for anybody. I see her in front of people, in interviews, at home alone at five in the morning making collages, or in her garden, and I admire her so much. And that fact that she’s my mom is just so cool!” On her parent’s style: “I used to be a little embarrassed by how she and my dad would dress, but now I steal their clothes all the time. My dad had totally taken my Cat Stevens t-shirt, but it’s OK, I have his Black Flag one and that’s amazing. And my mom…There’s a little vintage store where she lives…She [donated] a bunch of [her] stuff while I was away and I went there when I got back and bought five of her things. Out of everything in the store, I’d bought my mother’s things.” On her parents’ discipline: “My dad was brought up very old school, very strict – ‘Yes, ma’am, yes sir.’ So he’s wearing leather pants and a boa, but he would be like, ‘Did you do your chores today?’ Or, ‘That dress is too short!’ [Or,] ‘Yes, there’s a party going on with Mick Jagger and some models, but it’s your bedtime.’” READ MORE BELOW THE GALLERY! On her breakthrough role in the Berlin Film Festival favorite “Yelling to The Sky”: “That was a really crazy, amazing experience. It was my first leading role, so it was a real challenge for me as an actor. It was very low budget, we shot it in 18 days, and it was not luxurious, but it was art. The heart and soul that went into making that film was wonderful and I’m proud to be a part of it.” On filming “X-Men: First Class”: “I feel like sometimes if you do a film with ‘movie stars’ there’s all this drama and superiority, but X-Men was not like that at all. We were living in London for four months and it was like X-Men summer camp, so we all hung out at each other’s houses after filming, went out to pubs… lived in Notting Hill, right by Portobello. I had about a month off when I first arrived in London, and I was like, “Can you send me to work please, because I’m spending all my money flea-market shopping!” On her band Elevator Fight : “Having a band is great, because with acting there are long periods of time out when you’re not doing anything, and I don’t like just sitting around, I go crazy. We found this house in the suburbs of Pennsylvania and did [the album] in eight days. Drank a lot of whisky and ate a lot of pizza and stayed up ’til 7am every day. We smelt so bad by the end, but I’m very happy with it. I don’t know what’s going to happen next, we don’t have a record deal, but we’re playing it by ear.” Zoe Kravitz Smokes A Cig, Shows Off Abs For Wonderland Mag [PHOTOS] Zoe Kravitz Debuts Two-Tone Hair At Tribeca Film Festival [PHOTOS]

Mariah Carey Poses Topless, Pregnant For Life & Style

‘I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to document this once-in-a-lifetime experience,’ pop diva says of the magazine photo shoot. By James Dinh Mariah Carey on the cover of Life & Style magazine Photo: Life & Style Like quite a few celebrities-turned-mothers before her, Mariah Carey has shed her clothes at the height of her pregnancy for an intimate photo shoot. For the new issue of Life & Style magazine, which hits newsstands on Friday, the powerhouse diva offers some candid belly-baring images and opens up about her journey to motherhood. “I was feeling very vulnerable about taking pictures at all right now, but then I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to document this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” the 42-year-old songbird told the mag. “My ultimate goal was to share this incredibly personal moment with my true fans.” On the cover, Carey poses with one arm high and the other across her very pregnant belly while her golden-blonde hair flows over her chest. Meanwhile, the singer apparently wasn’t the only one excited about the intimate photo shoot. Carey, who is pregnant with twins (a boy and a girl), revealed, “The babies were kicking almost the entire time; it was unbelievable. Especially the girl — clearly she’s a diva in training!” While the babies aren’t due for another few weeks, Carey and husband Nick Cannon were alerted just last week when contractions sent the singer to the hospital. She explained to Life & Style that her photo shoot was delayed due to their impromptu trip, saying, “We didn’t start shooting until 1:30 a.m. because I was in the hospital from the night before until the day of the shoot with contractions five minutes apart!” As her due date looms closer, Carey admitted that pregnancy has enlightened her to a brand-new perspective on motherhood. “Now I have so much respect for mothers everywhere, especially those who’ve had difficult pregnancies or given birth to multiples,” she said, adding, “We need to have Mother’s Day once a week!” Soon-to-be-father Cannon is also basking in the thrill of his twins’ impending arrival, telling the magazine that he thought he “couldn’t love Mariah more,” but admitting that he now has “a whole new appreciation and admiration for her.” Send your well-wishes to Mariah and Nick in the comments! TV Nudity Report: Shameless Season Finale & Mildred Pierce Premiere [PICS]

HBO premiered its Mildred Pierce miniseries this weekend, and it hit the ground running with some dark, but still delectable, nudity from muff master Kate Winslet . Evan Rachel Wood ‘s merkin hasn’t made its entrance yet, so we’re expecting Mildred Pierce to keep the nudity coming fast and hard…so you can too! In other TV nudes, the season finale of Shameless aired last night, and it’s leaving us feeling a bit…conflicted here at Skin Central. The much-hoped-for Sapphic seduction of knockout nudecomer Emmy Rossum by trained topless professional Amy Smart failed to deliver- in fact, in a rare show of restraint, Emmy kept her clothes on for the entire episode. But sweet, sweet consolation came in the form of Laura Wiggins , who bared her sin cushions in the sack with her boy toy. How bittersweet. See the sexy pics from Mildred Pierce and Shameless after the jump!

‘American Idol’ Castoff Ashthon Jones Sees Grammys In Her Future

‘It’s not always a bad thing to be the first person’ voted off, 25-year-old diva says. By Gil Kaufman Ashthon Jones performs on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Ashthon Jones is what you might call a glass-half-full kind of gal. Whereas some might consider being a wild-card pick and then the first finalist eliminated on season 10 of “American Idol” a bummer, the 25-year-old Nashville native said Friday (March 11) that she’s choosing to see this as an opportunity to get her career started in earnest. After winning the judges over early with her diva style and voluminous hair, Jones stumbled on Wednesday night with a weak version of the somewhat obscure Diana Ross song “When You Tell Me That You Love Me,” which she sang only marginally better on Thursday’s show in her last-ditch effort to stay in the running. But what’s done is done, and now the former teenage runaway said she’s eager to leave her hardscrabble life (and retail job) behind and get on to the next thing. Q : Are you going back to your store job in Nashville? A : No, I’m not! I left it there, and I left it there to stay. I’ve worked and worked all my life, and now it’s time for me to be the artist and the performer that God put in me a long time ago … and hopefully opportunities are there for me. Q : What do you think America was missing about you during that top 24 round? A : I don’t know! I was thinking the same thing. I just wanted people to see my personality, and I don’t think the show showed my personality as much as I wanted it to. … I’m kind of glad that the judges saw that personality of a diva, but I didn’t want the world to see me as diva-like, like I’m all that. … I have faith and confidence in myself. I’ve never been timid onstage. Q : A lot was made of your song choice, but it was not as obscure as some of the other songs the contestants chose. If you could go back now, would you have chosen a different Diana Ross song? A : As I look back at it now … I chose that song for a reason. I listened to all the Diana Ross songs, and that one, for some reason, spoke to me. … I related it to my life and my experiences and my faith and the love that I have around me. As I was singing that song, the lyrics is what spoke to me. Q : What was the best piece of advice you received from one of the judges? A : Steven and Randy told me some great things, but Jennifer always had something real to say that came straight from her spirit. … She always told me, “You’re amazing, you’re gonna go far … I see it, I see it, I see it.” And last night she told me, “It’s all about the songs in the music business.” Even when you get that first record, make sure it’s a hit before you put it out, because that’s what America will remember, those great songs, and they’re never gonna go away. Q : If you could describe Steven Tyler in one word, what would it be? A : Fabulous. He was fabulous. From his clothes to his shoes [to] what he said. He didn’t care what people thought and said exactly what he felt. And behind the scenes, he was the most humble and sweet person. Q : You looked like you were in such pain when you found out that you were going home. What was going on with you at that moment? A : It really was not pain. It was more so leaving the stage and my friends that I had made. I just had to let it out. I always hold stuff in, I’m a very, very strong person … [but] sometimes you have to let it out, you have to show your emotion. Q : What about the fact that you were the first person voted off? Is there any stigma to that? A : I think it’s not always a bad thing to be the first person. It can be a good thing. Everything that I went through on the show, now I’m going to take it and put it to work in my career. Q : Where do you yourself in two to five years? A : I really see myself performing. I see myself going overseas performing. I see myself helping my mom out with her businesses that she wants to do. I see myself continuing to be a songwriter and a motivator. Q : Do you see yourself winning a Grammy, being a big, big artist? A : It’s possible. You can’t really say, “I’m going to do that.” But I’m a firm believer in speaking everything into existence. … Yes, I believe that I’m going to have a Grammy, I believe that something great is going to come out of this experience.
