Almost Every Worker from Exxon Valdez Oil Spill is Now Dead

Are you sure that you want to help clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? In a previous article we documented a number of the health dangers from this oil spill that many scientists are warning us of, and now it has been reported on CNN that the vast majority of those who worked to clean up the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska are now dead. Yes, you read that correctly. Almost all of them are dead. In fact, the expert that CNN had on said that the life expectancy for those who worked to clean up the Exxon Valdez oil spill is only about 51 years. Considering the fact that the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is now many times worse than the Exxon Valdez disaster, are you sure you want to volunteer to be on a cleanup crew down there? After all, the American Dream is not to make big bucks for a few months helping BP clean up their mess and then drop dead 20 or 30 years early. This news clip from CNN is absolutely stunning. If this is even close to true, then why would anyone want to be involved in helping to clean up this oil?…. The truth is that what we have out in the Gulf of Mexico is a “toxic soup” of oil, methane, benzene, hydrogen sulfide, other toxic gases and very poisonous chemical dispersants such as Corexit 9500. Breathing all of this stuff is not good for your health, but the reality is that the true health toll of this oil spill is not going to be known for decades. However, the early reports are not encouraging…. *Already, a large number of workers cleaning up the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico report that they are suffering from flu-like symptoms. *According to another new report, exposure to the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico has resulted in 162 cases of illnesses reported to the Louisiana state health department. *In addition, according to one local Pensacola news source, “400 people have sought medical care for upper or lower respiratory problems, headaches, nausea, and eye irritation after trips to Escambia County beaches.” This is going to be something that we all want to keep a very close eye on. Quote of the Day: Why America Needs to Free Itself From Oil

Veteran Jonathan Powers writes in CNN about how the U.S. thirst for oil threatens its economic and national security. This year, as Americans across the nation celebrate July Fourth with barbecues and fireworks, those most responsible for defending our independence, the military, will continue to fight two wars. And it is a shame that we will let yet another July Fourth pass us by without making substantial progress toward ending our unnecessary dependence on oil, a dependence that is funding the bullets that our enemies fire at our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

100 foot long Narco Sub seized in S. America

The U.S. government announced on Saturday afternoon that for the first time ever a fully operational submarine used by drug traffickers has been seized in the waters of South America. The craft, which could move multi-ton loads of cocaine, was seized in a jungle tributary of Ecuador leading to the Pacific Ocean by Ecuadoran authorities using Drug Enforcement Administration intelligence. The sub is diesel-powered, has a periscope and air conditioning and measures 100 feet long and 9 feet tall. At least one person was arrested and an investigation continues, according to a news release from DEA. Although traffickers have used so-called “narco subs,” low-slung boats that are fully covered and ride low in the water, this is the first full-on submarine ever found in their hands. added by: Stoneyroad

CNN’s Sanchez on Mel Gibson: ‘Very Politically Involved’

Today on CNN, Rick’s List host Rick Sanchez was, as he likes to say, all over and drilling down on a story of major import.  No, nothing about the dismal unemployment numbers we’re seeing this recovery summer.  Despite repeated teases on the topic, he didn’t get around to it. Sanchez was all over and drilling down on the latest Mel Gibson antics, despite pushback from his audience: SANCHEZ: Some of you are tweeting me, in fact I’m reading these as I go telling me, why are you covering the Mel Gibson story? That’s not really news. I’m thinking, it’s not? Mel Gibson, one of the most renowned actors, who is very politically involved, caught on tape in the past saying things about Jews and about women? When did Mel Gibson become very politically involved?  In a 2006 Entertainment Weekly interview Gibson said , “Everyone always presumes I’m a Republican. I’m not.” A check of Federal Election Commission records shows no political contributions from Mel Gibson.  Years ago, he wrote a letter endorsing a candidate in the California GOP lieutenant gubernatorial race, but even then noted : “I don’t often support political candidates.” Does Sanchez automatically presume that someone who says nasty things about women and minorities must be very politically involved?  Or does he assume that a Hollywood personality not routinely spouting liberal lunacies has to be a Republican? Viewers might be interested in seeing the evidence Rick has that Gibson is very politically involved.  At any rate, his devoting so much time to the story kept Sanchez from reporting on the most recent Obama economic failures.

‘Harry Potter’ Actress’ Father And Brother Threaten To Kill Her

The father and brother of Afshan Azad are accused of threatening to kill the star because of her relationship with a Hindu man. By Mawuse Ziegbe Afshan Azad Photo: Getty Images The father and brother of actress Afshan Azad, who plays Padma Patil in the “Harry Potter” franchise, have been accused of threatening to kill the star. Her brother has also been accused of assaulting her at her home in Manchester, England. According to CNN , a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said the actress was allegedly attacked on May 21 because her family disapproved of her relationship with a Hindu man. Azad’s family is Muslim. Azad’s father, Abdul Azad, and brother, Ashraf Azad, recently appeared in Manchester Magistrate’s Court via video link, according to the Manchester Evening News . The actress was also present at the hearing and the two men have been released on bail. Bail conditions stipulate that neither father nor brother can travel to London and must adhere to a curfew. The paper also reports that the pair will appear again in court later this month and that “it is understood” that Azad’s father and brother plan to plead not guilty. Azad was a student with no acting experience when she was cast as Padma Patil, a classmate of Harry’s. Azad reportedly tagged along to an audition with some friends “for a bit fun.” She has since appeared in four movies, and the Manchester Evening News reports that she is expected to appear in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which is set to hit theaters next year. John Wolfson, a lawyer for Azad’s brother Ashraf, said, “I hope for the whole family’s sake this matter can be resolved quickly and happily.”
