How I Met Your Mother Rerun Includes Zookeeper Ad

If you thought that sitcom rerun advertising was exclusive to commercials, you’re apparently wrong. Sadly (or excitingly, depending on your views on time-travel marketing), networks have found a way to generate ad revenue for new films and products in old episodes of your favorite television series by straight-up superimposing those products into a scene. For evidence, look no further than a recent rerun of a 2007 episode of How I Met Your Mother that allegedly (and eerily) advertised this weekend’s Kevin James vehicle Zookeeper .

The 9 Most Scathing Critical Responses to James Cameron’s Sanctum

Our own Stephanie Zacharek warned you away from the waterlogged cave-bound 3D cheese that is James Cameron’s (executive-produced Avatar technology-wasting favor-to-a-friend) Sanctum , and she’s not alone: many more esteemed critics made it through the Aussie survival adventure with their spirits, eyeballs, and attention spans barely intact. Some saw Sanctum ‘s terrible B-movie dialogue as amusing unintentional camp; will you be so lucky? Rappel down to the depths of Sanctum ‘s most scathing critiques and survey the rocky terrain ahead.

The Case For Cobie Smulders in The Avengers (Among Other Blockbusters)

The further away I get from the news that Henry Cavill was cast as Superman , the more I appreciate the Warner Bros. decision. Not because it proves there is some silly conspiracy to hire foreign-born actors to play American icons; rather, because Warner Bros. saved everyone from having to follow along with the endless wheel-spinning short lists that usually accompany the casting of most franchise blockbusters nowadays. (See: the Warner Bros. hunt for Lois Lane as reference .) Still, if we’re going to be subjected to another short list, at least it can include names like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Morena Baccarin and Cobie Smulders. All three actresses are reportedly up for the role of Nick Fury’s sidekick The Avengers , which got me to thinking: Why isn’t Cobie Smulders more famous?

Nicole Scherzinger To Guest-Star On ‘How I Met Your Mother’

The Pussycat Doll and ‘Dancing With the Stars’ champ will appear on the show in November. By Jocelyn Vena Nicole Scherzinger Photo: Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic Nicole Scherzinger is set to guest-star on the hit CBS show “How I Met Your Mother.” EW.com reports that the lead Pussycat Doll and “Dancing With the Stars” winner will play a vital part in telling the story of Robin’s (played by Cobie Smulders) days as a Canadian pop star, when she was known as Robin Sparkle. “It’s going to be a satisfying third chapter in the Robin Sparkles trilogy,” executive producer Craig Thomas said. “It’s a prequel to both ‘Let’s Go to the Mall’ and ‘Sandcastles in the Sand.’ ” Scherzinger will play Robin’s former pal, Jessica Glitter, who now hosts a Canadian talk show alongside former “Growing Pains” star Alan Thicke. “It’s the origin story of Robin Sparkles,” executive producer Carter Bays said. “You see where she came from.” The episode, titled “Glitter,” will air this November during sweeps. Last season a number of familiar faces popped up on “How I Met Your Mother,” including Jennifer Lopez and Carrie Underwood. In past seasons, everyone from Britney Spears to “Hills” stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have appeared on the sitcom. Scherzinger burned up television screens last season on “Dancing With the Stars,” where she shimmied her way to winning the mirror-ball trophy. Following a recent shakeup in the band, she’s also currently hard at work on the next Pussycat Dolls album and worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber on his new play, “Love Never Dies,” a sequel to “The Phantom of the Opera.” Aside from taping her upcoming appearance on “How I Met Your Mother” and all her other projects, Scherzinger has been busy writing tons of music. “I don’t know if I’m gonna put [the new music out] under my name yet or if it’s going to be perfect for the Dolls,” she said. “It doesn’t matter. I just want to make great music for the fans. It’s going to be popular music, but I’m definitely going with a more rock, soul-inspired sound.” Related Artists Nicole Scherzinger

Cobie Smulders on How I Met Your Mother, Reprising Robin Sparkles and On-Set Jam Sessions

She may not be a former Canadian pop star in real life, but Cobie Smulders plays one on TV. As Robin Scherbatsky on CBS’ s Emmy-winning How I Met Your Mother , the Vancouver-born actress plays a morning-news anchor who dabbled in bubblegum pop music in the early ’80s under the stage name Robin Sparkles. And while Robin’s clique of thirtysomething friends — played by Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan — have only uncovered two recordings to date, the music videos have been so popular that they have inspired dozens of fan parodies on YouTube. Aside from being a former pop star though, Smulders’ character is also the show’s consummate bachelorette who just this season won the heart of Neil Patrick Harris’ comically machismo bachelor. As How I Met Your Mother ‘s fifth season winds down, Cobie Smulders caught Movieline up on her character’s lost variety show with Alan Thicke, the scenes she hated filming this season and her favorite guest star to date. [ Spoilerphobes beware: Smulders revealed a few mild plot twists ahead in the series’ fifth season. ]
