Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Shows A ‘New Direction,’ Says Perez Hilton

Gaga’s new single ‘is very much about the you and I, the collective us,’ maintains the gossip blogger. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage Lady Gaga’s little monsters will certainly have their paws up when they hear the singer’s latest dance-floor creation, “Born This Way,” which was released to radio and made available for purchase on Friday (February 11). The track, an over-the-top sonic spectacle of beats, synths and messages of empowerment, is the next step in Gaga’s ever-evolving career, at least according to one well-known media pundit. The pop star’s pal Perez Hilton explains how the track fits in when compared with Gaga’s other big lead singles — The Fame ‘s “Just Dance” and The Fame Monster ‘s “Bad Romance.” “I think just by reading the lyrics that ‘Born This Way’ is taking things in a new direction,” the gossip blogger recently shared with MTV News. “Whereas ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Just Dance’ were great first-person [songs], ‘Born This Way’ is very much about the you and I, the collective us, the little monsters and the world.” Previously, Perez described the song as an anthem for Gaga’s fans. “I’m very perceptive of what people are saying, thinking, and so is Gaga, and perhaps one of the biggest critiques, just based on the lyrics, is that it’s a very gay song,” he explained about the title track off the singer’s next album, which is scheduled for a May release. “And you know what? It is a very gay song — unapologetically gay, in-your-face gay — but it’s also a universal song that can relate to everyone,” Hilton further explained. “To all of us outsiders, to all of us freaks, to all of us who feel different. And the music is undeniable. It sounds like a smash. It is a smash. It is one of the best songs of Gaga’s career.” Do you agree with Perez Hilton’s evaluation of “Born This Way”? Nicki Minaj’s ‘Moment 4 Life’ Video To Premiere Thursday On MTV

Clip, which debuts at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV, plays up femcee’s relationship with Young Money labelmate Drake. By Hillary Crosley, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images On Thursday, Nicki Minaj will reveal her long-awaited “Moment 4 Life” video on MTV. The clip, which was shot in December in Los Angeles, features Young Money labelmate Drake and is rumored to show the pair playing up their “are they or aren’t they?” relationship with a kiss. The “Moment 4 Life” clip will premiere at 8:58 p.m. ET on MTV. When MTV News’ Sway spoke to Drake on the set of “Moment 4 Life,” the MC compared the success of his and Minaj’s debut albums to Weezy’s opening-week sales of Tha Carter III, saying each subsequent project further cemented the collective’s status. “I think it’s crazy that somehow, some higher power brought all these individuals together,” Drake told MTV News on the set of Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” video. “I remember being on the [tour] bus when Wayne played me Tha Carter III, which went on to sell a million copies in one week. Then it was Thank Me Later. It was this big pressure, and that went on to sell what it did. “And now,” he continued, “to think of the girl that I used to ride the bus with — and that’s what she was to me: this girl that I rode the bus with. I was like, ‘Female rap?’ And I’m being dead honest with you. [I thought,] ‘Man, it’s been a while since there’s been a female rapper, and I’m curious to see how this works.’ It’s not that I didn’t believe. And she was probably looking at me like, ‘This Jew from Canada: I don’t know.’ ” And now, after the successful debut of Pink Friday, the Toronto lyricist said he couldn’t be happier for Minaj. “It’s amazing now to see her come into her own, build this brand and persona,” he said. “It’s incredible.” Don’t miss Nicki Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” video premiere, Thursday at 8:58 p.m. ET on MTV. Can African-Americans Claim Kim “Most Likely To Find Her Husband At The Million Man March” Kardashian?

Regardless of her obvious shortcomings, Kim Kardashian’s stuck around our collective public perception like a bad STD. And though it’d be great to take a neat little pill and pretend it was a one-night-only ordeal, I’ve come to the slow sad recognition that little Kimmie may just be here to stay. So if she’s going to hang around black people, maybe we should at least start claiming her? Thus, in the grand tradition of Dave Chappelle’s “race draft”, here are a few reasons why we should consider drafting Kim Kardashian. 1. She likes black people — and who doesn’t? Every white celeb wants to call on a black friend for street cred, and usually Will Smith or Diddy are more than willing to step up and be token. But Kim really and genuinely likes black people. She’s close friends with Serena Williams! She went to LaLa Vasquez’s wedding! Not to mention she loves black men. She counts Reggie Bush and Miles Austin as ex-boyfriends, and her first husband was black. Even her dad liked black people. Why else would he try to defend O.J. Simpson? 2. She can’t keep a man You know the stereotype (and the statistics): black women don’t get married. We stay single because we’re too powerful, educated, bossy, b**chy, picky, easy, et cetera et cetera blah blah blah. While we can choose to be mad at Kim for dating some mighty fine black athletes, we have to bear this in mind – no one has liked it enough to put a ring on it. So in that way, she’s not very different from a lot of other thirty-something black women. She might be the arm candy, but when it comes to the “hallowed” second finger left hand, she struggles like everyone else. Read More At TheGrio.com

Paul Rudd Won’t Appear In Jason Segel’s ‘Muppet’ Movie

‘I wish that I was. It’s all rumor,’ star tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Paul Rudd Photo: MTV News With Jason Segel helming a spankin’ new “Muppet” flick , fans have been buzzing that many of the funnyman’s guffaw-inducing pals would show up for the fun. One story that has been making the rounds was that Segel’s “I Love You, Man” co-star Paul Rudd was slated to appear as an iPhone-obsessed puppet pal of Segel’s character. However, when MTV News caught up with Rudd recently, the star crushed the collective dreams of Judd Apatow acolytes everywhere, explaining that a cameo alongside Kermit’s crew is just not in the cards right now. “I wish that I was. It’s all rumor,” Rudd confided at the Gotham Awards last week. “I wanted to be in it, and I talked to Jason but I think there was some things that happened and I don’t know if I’m gonna get to do it.” As many would be, he’s totally torn up about missing out on the Muppet-fest. “It blows actually,” he pouted playfully. “It really sucks.” Up next, fans can catch Rudd alongside Jennifer Aniston as a broke couple that decide to take up residence at a commune in the Apatow-helmed “Wanderlust.” But after that, Rudd quipped that he wanted another crack at the Muppet franchise, and even came up with a few inspired titles for a sequel to Segel’s project. “I’m hoping for the ‘Muppet Movie 2.’ I’m playing Charles Grodin in ‘Muppet 2: Electric Waterloo?’ Beaker-loo?” he joked, before offering a truly game-changing suggestion: “Muppet Movie 2: The Muppets Are Still Taking Manhattan.” Even with Rudd officially out the mix, the confirmed lineup of guest stars should pack the film with plenty of laughs. Jack Black, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Crystal and Alan Arkin are all slated to appear in the project. Whoopi Goldberg to Ground Zero Mosque Protesters: ‘Kiss My Butt’

The View’s resident political sage Whoopi Goldberg offered her usual degree of intellectualism on Wednesaday’s show, when she told people protesting against the Ground Zero mosque to “kiss my butt” and “get out of here.” Apparently fed up with Americans voicing their collective discontent with individuals and actions they find highly offensive, Whoopi stated (video below the fold): The fact that there were protests on 9/11 really also irritated me. You know what, I don’t have time to listen to your side or your side. This is about the people that lost their lives. That’s why we’re coming together. And the fact that y’all are fighting in the streets – kiss my butt, get out of here. In a show of ostensible political neutrality, Whoopi did not single out either side of the debate, and made a point of claiming that she objected to demonstrations on both sides of the issue. But if there were no opposition to the mosque’s construction, there would be no protests in the first place. So in a sense, Whoopi was singling out and condemning Americans’s objections to this mosque. Apparently she’d rather the mosque be built, and everyone just stop complaining about it. We’ll keep her position in mind the next time the View crew weighs in on some left-wing protest.

Amateur Hour at CNN: Error-Filled Chyron During Beck Rally

There is something about CNN and the people writing chyrons for the alleged “most trusted name in news” with the “best political team on television.” Last week, these geniuses clarified the White House’s position on President Barack Obama’s religion. However on CNN Aug. 28 coverage of Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally, which CNN reporters and anchors seemingly held their collective noses up and reported on throughout the event, the chyron on the screen was something likened to one of those parlor games where you circle the numerous errors involved. (h/t Inside Cable News ) First off, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s name was misspelled. Second, she was identified as a former presidential candidate, when she was actually the Republican vice-presidential nominee in 2008. And finally, it’s labeling Beck as Palin. Just not a good day for CNN.

Slow News Apocalypse: Will the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement Force the Oscars to Move?

Hope you’re sitting down for this one. As part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations between NFL owners and players, the league is considering expanding its 16-game season to 18 games by 2012-13 . The thinking being that too much potential revenue is left on the table by having four preseason games each year, when two could suffice. If that were to happen, however, the Super Bowl wouldn’t occur until the end of February… and what’s at the end of February?

Marijuana maven won’t butt out

In the 1940s and '50s, Stan Eby was part of a strong-man balancing act, traveling the country and becoming a regular in the early days of Santa Monica's famous “Muscle Beach.” Some 60 years later, Eby runs a marijuana dispensary – Stan the Man Collective – on the outskirts of Vallejo, and is under legal fire for alleged illegal operations due to city zoning policies. When Eby talks about why he bears police raids and legal hurdles instead of dropping his efforts, he spends little time explaining. “Because I want to help people while I'm alive,” Eby said of his motivation. “Nobody's ever OD'd – there's never been a death from it. That's a pretty good record, isn't it?” Eby asserted, comfortably barefoot in his Glen Cove home, with its front door open to visitors. “(Marijuana's) just a plant and herb that helps people.” http://www.timesheraldonline.com/ci_15779263 added by: JackHerer

9/11 Truth Billboad in California

In what may be the first of it’s kind in the nation, a group of 9/11 Truth activists organized, designed and paid for a commercial billboard in which 1,200 Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth invite the public to “Examine the Evidence.” The 24’ (w) x 12’ (h) billboard was installed sometime Thurs. afternoon, Aug. 5, 2010 on South Higuera, just south of Elks Lane. The activists who have brought this matter to the people of SLO County who drive by this area realize that the evidence we are attempting to share is difficult to digest. Many simply cannot bear to question 9/11, knowing somewhere deeply in the collective unconscious that the truth may be more than we can stand. In order to understand the facts regarding the collapse of 3 modern, high rise buildings one has to free ourselves from our preconceived notions. Of course to investigate 9/11 carries with it the burden of doing something about it. While this is true, no one is asking any one of us to save the world single-handedly. It does not take long to get educated (just go to http://www.ae911truth.org/ ). The volumes of evidence presented include a peer reviewed paper published by an international team of scientists that positively found unignited thermite in all 4 samples of World Trade Center dust they tested. There has been no coverage of this paper in any of the mainstream press, including the so-called “Left media.” For more details about this highly charged issue, which we need to remember was the “reason” we went to war in the Middle East, please visit: http://www.ae911truth.org/ We Are Change.org August 7, 2010 added by: rodstradamus
