We’ve seen him in films such as The Nutty Professor , Half Baked , and Blue Streak . We’ve watched him leave us in complete stitches during the two seasons of his Comedy Central sketch comedy series, Chappelle’s Show. But what we hardly ever get to see is Dave Chappelle in a serious role. Dave’s hilarious and his ability to be funny is, without a doubt, a given. It’s almost natural for him. However, in Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born , hitting theaters October 5th, we are getting to see a side of Dave that we rarely, if ever, get to see on screen. We are getting to see Dave behind all of the jokes and laughs and honestly, it’s about time. Even though A Star Is Born isn’t all about Dave, he’s definitely the star that was born on this movie. Here are 3 reasons why: 1. We’ve Never Had Vulnerable Dave Before Source: The Washington Post / Getty As we said before, vulnerable Dave is pretty non-existent as far as films go. According to Dave, he has Bradley Cooper’s direction to thank for his ability to pull off the role so flawlessly. “The types of movies I’ve done in my career, they’re always hard comedies,” said Chappelle. “[Directors] will kind of weigh in sometimes but Bradley, the way he directed me and the way we would talk about a scene, the way he would create an environment that would give me the courage to actually be vulnerable in a way that comedy wouldn’t let me be. I never felt threatened or unsafe. He would always tell me sometimes that he would not let me look bad and I believed him.” 2. Dave Chappelle Is A Genius Source: getty / Getty According to Bradley Cooper, not only is Dave Chappelle a natural, he’s damn near a genius. Hey, we knew this already but it’s still great to hear others say it. Cooper says, “ I loved our dynamic and I couldn’t get it out of our mind. I knew that he would set a rhythm that I would then follow and edit towards. ” 3. Dave Chappelle Is Willing To Learn Source: Fred Watkins / Getty One thing about Dave Chappelle is that despite being 45 years old with over 25 years in the industry, he knows that he can never know too much. Dave Chappelle is always willing to learn and that’s what makes him a star. Bradley Cooper can attest to just how great Dave is on set. He says, “ There’s something about Dave and how he is as a human being, he’s such an observer. Some may say that Modern Family is the funniest show on television. But there will be nothing funny about one of the upcoming storylines on Season 10 of the beloved ABC program. According to co-creator Christopher Lloyd, the first half of the upcoming season will feature a significant character death. That’s certainly something new for the series. “We’re handling some bigger life events in this season,” Lloyd told Entertainment Weekly today, adding as a tease: “We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.” As you might expect, Lloyd isn’t about to divulge the identity of the corpse. But he does say that it will “significant character on the series” and the death “will be a moving event – and an event that has repercussions across several episodes.” Modern Family stars Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Sarah Hyland, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould and Aubrey Anderson-Emmon. It has maintained the same cast throughout its duration on the air. It also set a record by winning five straight Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy Awards. The sitcom is heading into its final contractual season, meaning this very well could be the show’s final season. Lloyd, however, hopes this won’t be the case. “There’s goodwill on both sides to make it happen, but there’s also complicated matters that have to get worked through, and there’s a time constraint on it, because we can’t have it take too long,” he says. “I’m hoping that that doesn’t make the whole thing go away, but I think there’s a decent chance we’ll see it happen.” Lloyd continued as follows: “From our standpoint creatively we’ve gotten excited writing this season and changing the lives of the characters – some in a significant way – and it’s made us think, ‘Wow, there’s a lot to explore in the lives of these characters.’ “They’re in many ways such different characters than they were five or 10 years ago when we started and they’re just as interesting and just as funny. So our standpoint was, ‘Well, if we can do another season, we may as well.’ “I’m hoping that we have some news on that [soon], and if it winds up that we tried and just couldn’t make it work, we will have a great final season for sure.” Modern Family Season 10 premieres on Wednesday, September 26 at 9/8c. Our best guess is that Phil’s father, played by the amazing Fred Willard, is the one who kicks the proverbial bucket. As for what else fans can expect from upcoming episodes? He told EW the following: “There is a significant change in the dynamics of the family that people maybe thought was going to happen at some point down the line that is happening sooner than expected.”
To say that this is troubling news is an understatement. The disgraced Matt Lauer trying to make good on his threat to return to television less than a year after being fired for egregious sexual misconduct. And worse, he is apparently trying to hire Today Show staff to sabotage the show that fired him! RadarOnline reports that Matt Lauer is working to poach Today Show employees . As he builds the staff for his new project, he is raiding the staff of his old stomping grounds. According to the tabloid’s informant, Lauer isn’t doing this purely because he wants familiar faces — he is allegedly driven by malice. “Matt would like nothing better than to wreak havoc on the people who fired him,” their insider reveals. One would think that he had done enough irreparable harm at NBC. Instead, it sounds like he’s just getting started. RadarOnline writes that the accused sexual predator has been “skulking around NBC’s Rockefeller Center studios.” This prowling has reportedly resulted in meetings with former NBC employees. At least one of these meetings is said to have been with Don Nash, who departed from the network in January — just a couple of months after Lauer’s firing. The source explains: “Matt knows luring talent from ‘Today’ would throw the show into chaos!” Some men, when caught, know that what they did was bad and are eager to quietly disappear. It sounds like Lauer doesn’t understand what he’s done — or doens’t care. Today Show ratings have been better without Lauer than they have been in years, but they’re still second place behind Good Morning America . And apparently Lauer aims to make life more difficult for Hoda Kotb. And he has his eye on someone he’d love to have by his side in his planned return to the spotlight: Katie Couric. “Matt is convinced that enough time has passed to put the scandal behind him and that viewers would come rushing back to him,” the source explains. The insider says that Lauer believes that this is possible “especially if he teamed with Katie!” Well … yikes. We mentioned that Lauer aims to twist the knife against Today Show, and part of that is his personal beef with Kotb. “Matt feels Hoda hung him out to dry when the scandal broke,” an insider reveals. The tabloid alleges that tensions are mounting between Savannah Guthrie and Kotb, and that Savannah hopes to have Kotb replaced. “Helping Savannah helps him get revenge on Hoda,” the source claims. “And cause further chaos at Today .” The insider issues a warning: “It would also clear the path for his return to ‘Today’ if his show doesn’t get off the ground!” What some might describe as Matt Lauer’s delusions, others might describe as something chillingly possible. After all, Louis C.K. tried to begin his “comeback” just weeks ago. The man made his female coworkers watch him masturbate and even admits that it happened, but figured that a few months off of the stage was enough to compensate for his crimes. But as much as people were outraged that he made a surprise stand-up appearance when the women he drove out of the comedy industry will never do stand-up again, others supported him. If Louis C.K. can get that kind of support after admitting to his offenses, people might flock to Lauer’s comeback despite everything that we now know. One wonders how many sponsors would be willing to support a comeback effort by a man so widely disgraced. The answer, however, probably lies in public outcry and viewership numbers. If no one lets their morbid curiosity get the better of them, then no one will watch and his comeback will tank. If everyone raises their voices together to condemn any and all potential advertisers, then the man accused of using NBC as his personal hunting ground for subordinate women won’t get a second chance. But maybe Lauer is right. Maybe if enough time passes, people will just remember the smiling talk show host and forget about the awful allegations against him. Now folks are gathering their charcoal and lighting fluid once again thanks to a move Colin made with Nike. According to ESPN , the major shoe brand named Kaepernick as the face of their “Just Do It” campaign, which is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary as Nike’s key slogan. According to The Wall Street Journal , Colin’s deal with Nike is set to pay him a “top of the line” multiyear deal. This might be one way Kaepernick is making money for himself, considering he remains unsigned with an NFL team. The athlete is suing the NFL for colluding to keep him out of the league. With Colin’s new “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything” motto, Nike is hoping to reach 15 to 17 year olds, according to Nike’s vice president of brand for North America, Gino Fisanotti. He told ESPN , “We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward.” Not to mention, let’s not act like Nike doesn’t have a huge Black audience. So even if a mostly White community supports #NikeBoycott or if Nike’s stock has started to drop , there definitely will be a fan-base for Kaep’s “Just Do It” campaign. So for now, MAGA Twitter will have to stay mad.
