‘Breaking Dawn’ Vampire Contacts ‘Kill’ Kristen Stewart

‘That is one thing I can’t wait to say goodbye to,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment The dedicated Kristen Stewart fans out there are likely very well aware that she wears colored contact lenses for her role as Bella Swan in the “Twilight” movies. And in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” Stewart dons the amber lenses her co-stars Robert Pattinson, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Jackson Rathbone and Kellan Lutz have been wearing for years as part of their official Cullen vampire clan costuming. When MTV News caught up with Stewart recently, we asked about that experience and she revealed that, although she’s experienced with contacts, her new vampire ones weren’t much fun to wear. “They are worse. The yellow ones sort of limit your vision even more, and so you feel a little bit more closed off,” she said. “That is one thing I can’t wait to say goodbye to, is the contacts. They just kill you. [They give you] dead face.” Pattinson recently told us he was delighted that his co-star had to suffer with the rest of them. “She’s like, ‘I wear contact lenses. Why do you always complain about yours?’ ” Pattinson said. “When she finally wore them and then was complaining about them every second of the day, it was kind of satisfying.” Stewart said the yellow lenses were totally worth the trouble, because she was so excited to play the vampire version of Bella. “I’ve been waiting. To see her thrive anytime, it’s — she’s always so full of something that she knows, and it’s like, at this point, you finally go, ‘Oh, she was right,’ and she can also go, ‘OK, great, I’m not crazy, this was supposed to happen.’ ” Stewart said Bella’s previous feelings that she was different from others are validated in the final film. “The whole vampire thing, I wasn’t excited to be white and all that; I was really more excited to finally get her there, because she wants it so bad.” Tonight, join MTV.com live from the “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” red-carpet premiere as we talk to your favorite stars about all things “Twilight”! ‘Walking Dead’ Star Norman Reedus Talks Daryl Dixon

‘He needs a hug, but if you hug him, he’ll try to stab you,’ Reedus tells MTV News of his character. By Josh Wigler Norman Reedus Photo: MTV News Given its comic book basis, some “Walking Dead” characters seem safer than others. Main hero Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), for instance, isn’t likely to go anywhere anytime soon. But then there are folks like Rick’s former partner Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal) who are already long gone in the comics at this point in the TV series, proving the AMC survival horror show’s willingness to veer off the paneled path that’s come before. Another example of a man who could exit the scene early is Daryl Dixon, “Boondock Saints” actor Norman Reedus’ hillbilly hunter who does not appear in the comics at all. In fact, for a while there, it looked like Daryl was about to meet his maker in this past Sunday’s episode, titled “Chupacabra,” after sustaining injuries from a fall and nearly becoming fresh meat for two very hungry walkers. But thanks to an unexpected visit (or hallucinated appearance, rather) from his hateful brother Merle — Michael Rooker’s one-handed character who’s been missing for several episodes now — Daryl was able to channel his inner Dixon, kill the two walkers through some very rudimentary means, and return himself to Hershel’s farm in one piece. (Well, almost — thanks for that almost-lethal head shot, Andrea!) Daryl Dixon has quickly become a fan-favorite character on “Walking Dead,” not just for the folks at home, but even for creator Robert Kirkman . It should come as no surprise that Reedus himself is a huge Daryl fan. The actor has had a lot to explore over the course of one and a half seasons of “Dead,” and given the character’s continued journey toward redemption and harmony with his fellow survivors, it seems safe to say that Daryl will hang around for a bit longer — even if he doesn’t need to, in Reedus’ point of view. “Daryl’s interesting,” the actor told MTV News about his character. “While the rest of the group is fighting zombies to survive and make this world work, Daryl can handle himself. He can hunt, he can track, he can protect himself. His turmoil is emotional: how to deal with other people. There are these moments when these other characters you wouldn’t expect keep telling him, ‘You’re worth a damn. You’re better than you think you are.’ There are certain things that happen when you realize how hard his upbringing is. He needs a hug, but if you hug him, he’ll try to stab you. “I’m trying to play him like a wet cat in an alley,” Reedus continued. “You try to take care of it, but it hisses at you and rips your hands up. But he wants you to take him home. That’s what this group represents to Daryl, I think.” Tell us what you thought of this week’s “Walking Dead” in the comments!

Styles P Breaks Down The Meaning Of ‘MC’

‘It’s my job to say something,’ rapper tells ‘RapFix Live’ of his responsibility as ‘Master of Ceremonies.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Styles P Photo: MTV News Styles P takes the title of MC very seriously. On his upcoming album Master of Ceremonies, the Ghost expands the acronym to exemplify what it means to be a rapper of the highest caliber. The LOX rhyme spitter broke it all down with Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” “I named it Master of Ceremonies because I’m an MC and I felt like I’m gonna bring something to the table that a lot of people forgot about — a lost art,” Styles told Sway of his album, which drops October 4. In the beginning, it was the DJ who was the star in hip-hop. During the early house parties and park jams, the MC’s main function was to toast to the DJ using witty and rhyming wordplay. As hip-hop evolved, it was the MC or the rapper who emerged as the musical star. For Styles P, his MC influences included Rakim, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane and the seldom-celebrated New Jersey rapper Chill Rob G. So when it came time for him to grab the mic, Styles took the title very seriously. “It’s my job to say something. At the end of the day, I have to say something,” Peniro said, citing rap’s current lyrical deficiency as motivation for his first solo album in four years. The Yonkers lyricist even joked that after announcing his Master of Ceremonies album title on Twitter, one fan thought he was down with the Illuminati — a powerful, cult-like sect that conspiracy theorists accuse artists like Jay-Z and Kanye West of being involved with. “I laughed, but I was sad at the same time,” Styles said, “because to them, a master of ceremonies sounded like some Illuminati term and I was like, ‘Nah I’m an MC.’ Do your history — this is where we come from.” Styles, who is a self-described “fan of lyrics,” invited other MCs to be a part of his album. Not only do Rick Ross and Busta Rhymes appear on Master of Ceremonies ‘ lead single “Harsh,” other well-regarded spitters like Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and Lloyd Banks are represented as well. “In hip-hop, I think a lot of us forgot about MC and what MCing is,” he said. Luckily Styles P is about to give us a reminder. Related Videos Styles P, Mistah Fab, Glasses Malone On ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists Styles P Rick Ross Busta Rhymes

Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman Isn’t First Controversial Costume

We look back at other divisive getups, including George Clooney’s Batman and Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman. By Kara Warner Anne Hathaway on the set of “Dark Knight Rises” Photo: PhamousFotos/ Splash News Nothing causes a storm of online controversy like the first big reveal of an updated superhero costume — particularly when said costume is on a glamorous Hollywood starlet. Case in point: the paparazzi photo snapped on the Los Angeles set of “The Dark Knight Rises” that features a catsuit-clad Anne Hathaway in between scenes. The firestorm around the photo, as well as the detailed analysis that followed, reminded us of some other costumes that received the same obsessive treatment. MTV News reached out to Caleb Goellner, senior editor at Comics Alliance , for his thoughts on past lightning-rod getups. Halle Berry’s Catwoman All things considered, Hathaway’s costume has nothing on Halle Berry’s barely there, frequently mocked ensemble from 2004’s much-maligned “Catwoman,” which went on to win four Razzies for Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. “If somebody would’ve asked me, ‘Hey, you think it’d be feasible to fight crime wearing nothing but a few handfuls of random belts from a TJ Maxx after-Thanksgiving sale bargain bin circa 1984?’ In, like, 2003, I might’ve said, ‘Maybe,’ ” Goellner admitted. “I confess to not being open-minded enough for that response in a post-‘Catwoman’ world, though.” Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman There is a decent argument to be made that the violent reactions to the costume worn briefly by Adrianne Palicki were a large part of the reason David E. Kelley’s TV series failed to get picked up. Also, from what we know about the pilot , it was not good. “Palicki’s costume seems like it was scrutinized more for its choice of materials than its cut,” Goellner said. “Nobody really agrees on what Wonder Woman is/should be, but fans seemed united in their cries for a TV costume with a less vinyl-y sheen.” George Clooney and Val Kilmer’s Batmen When Warner Bros. hired Joel Schumacher to direct “Batman Forever” and then “Batman & Robin,” they wanted him to make the films less Tim Burton-style dark and more family-friendly. The result? Nipples were inexplicably added to the Batsuits worn by Val Kilmer and George Clooney. “In a world where rubber costumes often feature fake abs, adding nipples to a crime fighting suit is pretty logical,” Goellner said, tongue firmly in cheek. “The problem fans had with this outfit stemmed purely from the fact that, in the comics, Bruce Wayne has trained his nipples to go into sleep mode while fighting crime, diverting calories to other parts of his body as needed. This continuity error, however minor, really distracted from Joel Schumacher’s otherwise completely authentic filmmaking choices.” Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern The debate about CGI is ongoing: How much is too much? How much is too little? Shouldn’t we expect all superhero-themed movies to be computer-generated spectacles? When the first photo of Ryan Reynolds as a green-suited Hal Jordan appeared, there were accusations of ruin and overuse of Photoshop. Said Goellner: “Green Lantern’s organic look had some feeling like he was more of a Slim Goodbody stand-in than a proper space cop. Others, who accepted the rationality of the costume as a manifestation of alien technology, were still bummed by its lack of depth and overall painted-on look. Everyone else was too busy hoping for a cosmic ‘Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place’ reunion to notice.” X-Men Suit Up in Black Leather For those who grew up with their crime-fighting mutants sporting the classic blue-and-yellow suits as seen on the pages of the Marvel comic, as well as the animated cartoon, the all-black ensembles worn by the cast in Bryan Singer’s 2000 hit ruffled many a fanboy’s feathers back in the day — so much so that Singer added an homage to the fans via Cyclops’ cheeky line: “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” “Given the X-Men’s history of trying out new uniforms in the comics, fans weren’t supremely bothered by X-Men’s low-key combat suits,” Goellner said. “Then again, the state of the superhero film was so abysmal in 2000 that fans were open to anything that was more ‘Blade’ than ‘Batman & Robin.’ It also probably would’ve been a bad idea to put Hugh Jackman in a mask, when everyone knows the real star of the ‘X’ franchise has been his dreamy peepers.” Bonus: Barbara Eden’s Jeannie Back in 1965, nothing caused more controversy on network television than Barbara Eden’s scandalous costume on “I Dream of Jeannie” — so scandalous that network execs made the costume designers add extra inches to the waistline so Eden’s belly button wouldn’t be exposed. Goellner’s final word: “Her costume is a delight, but everybody knows that real genies are blue, have goatees and kind of talk like that guy who starred in ‘Hook.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Race Matters: Spider-Man Is Black And Latino Now But… He Might Be Gay Too!

Did you know the new Spider-Man is black??? Say goodbye to Peter Parker and hello to Miles Morales… the half-Black half-Latino young man who replaces Parker following his death. Miles Morales has replaced Peter Parker as the face behind the famous webbed mask, Marvel Comics has revealed. In the latest edition of the Ultimate Fallout series he pulls back the disguise and shows his face for the first time. Fans will have to wait until the official Spider Man relaunch next month to find out how he came to be the superhero. But another surprise could be in the pipeline after his creators said that in the future they would not rule out making him gay. Peter Parker first appeared as the superhero in 1962 – having been bitten by a radioactive spider he found he developed the strength and agility of an arachnid. He was killed off by the Green Goblin in June in a controversial move by Marvel which left fans aghast. Morales was inspired to do good after learning of the death and in Ultimate Fallout issue four he dons the mask and gets into his first fight. Marvel has revealed that he does have a connection to Parker in terms of how he got his powers but he will have different abilities beyond ‘Spider Sense’ and the ability to shoot webs out of his hands. Parker’s Aunt May and Gwen Stacy will also be in the plot to help him on his way to being a superhero. ‘The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility,’ Spider Man writer Brian Michael Bendis told USA Today. He’s going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means. ‘He’s younger than Peter Parker, he’s coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view. ‘It’s Peter Parker’s death that inspires this kid to step up.’ Marvel’s editor in chief Axel Alonso denied that having a black Spider Man was a publicity stunt. What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who’s reflective of our culture and diversity. ‘As someone who grew up on a steady diet of ‘Luke Cage, Hero For Hire’ and ‘Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu,’ I am personally invested. ‘This was a conscious decision. Here at Marvel, we pride ourselves on reflecting the real world in all its diversity. ‘We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker.’ Italian artist Sara Pichelli, who designed Spider-Man’s new look, added: ‘Maybe sooner or later a black or gay – or both – hero will be considered something absolutely normal.’ Not everything in the world of Spider Man has changed, however. The Ultimate imprint is separate from Marvel’s other comics – where Parker is alive and well. Ultimate exists in a parallel universe where entirely different realities can take place, Marvel said. We are glad Marvel is adding more diversity to their comics, but how are they gonna say Miles “might” be gay? We thought Lady Gaga said gays were “Born That Way”??? Source

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer: An Expert Analysis!

We break down what we know so far about the return to Gotham City — and take a stab at some lingering questions. By Eric Ditzian and Josh Wigler Christian Bale in the teaser trailer for “Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Warner Bros. The “Dark Knight Rises” teaser trailer flickered across movie screens over the weekend, and then popped up online Monday afternoon. It features so many elusive references and inspired so much we-can’t-wait-until-the-2012-theatrical-release anticipation that we’re still talking about it today. So the MTV Movies team settled in for a detailed breakdown of what’s been unveiled, the new questions raised, and what the whole thing tells us about next year’s cinematic return to Gotham City. Batman, Where It All Began Director Christopher Nolan has spoken openly about how this film will bring his Caped Crusader trilogy to a conclusion, closing the narrative loop that kicked off with 2005’s “Batman Begins.” In that sense, it’s appropriate the trailer starts with footage (and voiceover, courtesy of Liam Neeson’s Ra’s Al Ghul ) from the original film. We also see Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne here as a man on a mission, very much an outcast from society and attempting to rediscover his true self. That’s quite to similar to the way we might find him at the start of “Dark Knight Rises” — Batman shunned from Gotham City after his battle with the Joker in “Dark Knight.” Beyond this thematic and visual connection, the early trailer footage indicates that the League of Shadows — the crew of martial arts badasses who trained Wayne before coming to battle him — will in fact play a key role in the new film. Where it gets interesting is that Ra’s Al Ghul apparently died in “Batman Begins,” but Neeson was reportedly spotted on the “Dark Knight Rises” set and is featured prominently, at least in voice, in the trailer. Very interesting … Commissioner Desperation Jim Gordon, it’s safe to say, has seen better days, which is saying lot, considering how much crap he’s been through in the last two films. The commissioner has been shot and had to fake his own death, but none of that compares to his plight here: curled up in a hospital bed, sucking on an oxygen mask and praying that the Batman will return from exile. Gordon has suffered some sort of beatdown, but why and from whom? The implication of what he’s saying is that Gotham City is in trouble. We’ve seen in the teaser poster and through this trailer that the urban environment is literally crumbling to the ground. Desperation, both emotional and physical, seems to be the theme of the trailer — a stark contrast to the hopeful tone of the title, “Dark Knight Rises.” Gordon here is begging Wayne to rise again; when and why he does remains to be seen. The Caped Quitter As we’ve already mentioned, Batman quits his role as the protector of Gotham City at the end of “Dark Knight.” This scene of Wayne doing push-ups, which comes from “Batman Begins,” is another flashback to a character attempting to rebuild (or create out of whole cloth) a new self. We’ll greet Batman in “Dark Knight Rises” as a man without a legacy, without a rock-solid reputation, a superhero who has to start from the ground up. That’s not going to be easy. Thus, in this context, this scene almost seems like it’s part of Wayne’s “Rocky”-esque training sequence. That, or an outtake from “The Prestige.” Facing Bane We’ve seen a glimpse of Tom Hardy’s Bane in a sneak-peek photo , but this is the first time we’re seeing his face. While Bane’s look is related to his comic-book roots, Nolan once again has shown a willingness to update these iconic visuals; Bane’s mask is far more S&M badass than the luchador -like villain from the comics. Yet it’s only the briefest of looks, speaking to Nolan’s deft touch with teasers: Fans are forced to watch the trailer again and again, pausing and rewinding as we seek to study this key bad guy. Listen to That Crowd As the trailer wraps up, we hear some ominous chanting. These are sounds we’ve heard since the beginning of the “Dark Knight Rises” promotional campaign in a viral video. The chanting sounds cultish and foreign and scary; put another way, it sounds like the handiwork of the League of Shadows. We’re likely to hear more of that chanting in the months before release, and we’ll hear a heck of a lot of it in the movie itself. The question remains: How does Bane fit into the League of Shadows-heavy story line? How does that baddie come to blows with Batman, as we see toward the end of the trailer? That last shot of the two men facing off has the feel of a boxing match, the scene caught by a handheld camera, Batman bouncing up and down like he’s in the ring. Noteworthy in that shot, as well, is a mysterious character in the upper right hand corner: Who is that and why would Nolan include him or her in the trailer? “Dark Knight Rises” detectives out there, it’s time to get to work! Ryan Reynolds Explains His ‘Extraordinary’ ‘Green Lantern’ Character Arc

‘When we meet Hal Jordan, he’s a cocky, sarcastic, arrogant type of guy and he’s given this extraordinary gift,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ryan Reynolds in “Green Lantern” Photo: Warner Bros. The first time we see Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan in the trailer for “Green Lantern,” he wakes up in bed next to a woman he doesn’t seem to have known for long. “Make yourself at home,” he tells her as he rushes out. “There’s water in the tap.” A gracious host he’s not. That trailer introduction to Jordan is a fairly accurate representation of the test-pilot we meet in the beginning of the upcoming film, before an encounter with an intergalactic visitor gifts him with a power ring that turns Jordan into a superhero. “When we meet Hal Jordon, he’s a cocky, sarcastic, arrogant type of guy and he’s given this extraordinary gift,” Reynolds told MTV News at CinemaCon recently. “Rather than [have] that amplify those character traits, he’s in fact humbled by it and given purpose in his life, which is what he lacked.” Audiences won’t have to wait too long before Jordan undergoes that transformation. “We’re into it [early],” Reynolds said. “It’s an accelerated process. You don’t really want the movie to start in the third act.” Jordan isn’t the only character who will experience a full-scale reinvention. In the new movie, Sinestro (Mark Strong) is a faithful member of the Green Lantern Corps that Jordan joins. But as DC Comics fans know, Sinestro will eventually take a dark turn — one that will be hinted at in the film. “You definitely feel it. But he’s an ally in this film,” Reynolds said. He added about Jordan’s relationship with Sinestro, “I would say it’s contentious. Humans are looked down upon by a lot of the Green Lanterns — they’re kind of a sub-species.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . New ‘Superman’ To Follow ‘Batman Begins’ Blueprint, Zack Snyder Says

‘The whole thing is very much from that perspective of respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies,’ director tells L.A. Times. By Eric Ditzian Zack Snyder and Superman Photo: AFP/ Alex Ross/ DC Comics “Superman” director Zack Snyder finds himself in much the same position Christopher Nolan did in the run-up to “Batman Begins.” Nolan had to pick up the scraps of a broken franchise — thanks, “Batman & Robin”! — and re-engineer the Caped Crusader for a new century. Snyder, similarly, finds the Man of Steel in poor shape following an attempted 2006 reboot that left audiences underwhelmed. Is it any surprise, then, that Snyder plans to follow the example Nolan set back in 2005? “Literally, the one thing that everyone can start to think about is that we’re making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there’s been no other Superman movies,” Snyder told the Los Angeles Times. “If you look at ‘Batman Begins,’ there’s that structure, there’s the canon that we know about and respect, but on other hand there’s this approach that pre-supposes that there haven’t been any other movies. In every aspect of design and of story, the whole thing is very much from that perspective of respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies.” To that end, it helps, no doubt, that Nolan has taken on a sort of godfather role on the project (officially, he’s a producer), not just as a creative guide, but as a concrete example showing that such an approach can actually work. “Chris is awesome. He’s super-respectful but super-helpful, too. You can’t imagine a more generous [collaborator],” Snyder said. “Once he sort of got what I want to do with it, he was like, ‘OK,’ and once he said, ‘You know what, that’s awesome,’ now he’s 100 percent. If I say, ‘What do you think of this?’ he’s like, ‘That’s awesome,’ and then there’s a great give-and-take about it, a great conversation that we can have about it and making it better every day.” There are a lot of days still ahead. The movie — which, Snyder confirmed, has the working title “Man of Steel” — won’t hit theaters until December 2012. Before they even begin shooting, Snyder plans to release a photo of Henry Cavill in costume as Superman , lest an unsanctioned paparazzi photo become the first-ever look at the revamped hero. What we end up seeing in the first official pic, and what ends up onscreen late next year, may not be at all what we’re expecting. “In some ways Superman is the most recognizable superhero on the planet but also the most unknown. Just what he can be?” Snyder said. “People have preconceived ideas about him but probably all of them are wrong.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Man of Steel.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
