Clay Adler, Former MTV Reality Star, Commits Suicide

Clay Adler, a model and television personality best known for his former role on MTV’s Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County, committed suicide while on hanging out with friends last month. He was 27 years old. The ex-reality star was likely best known for his leading role on the aforementioned series. It premiered on August 13, 2007 and concluded on January 2, 2008, serving as a successor to Laguna Beach. The program chronicled the lives of several teenagers living in Newport Harbor (an affluent community within Orange County) and was structured more like a regular TV show than a documentary. Adler appeared on both seasons of the show, taking on the “role” of Grant Newman’s close friend and Chrissy Schwartz’s occasional boyfriend. According to TMZ insiders, Adler and a few pals went shooting in the desert on March 25. At one point, in the middle of firing off a few rounds, Adler turned the gun on his own head and pulled the trigger. He died the following day in the hospital from this gunshot wound. Law enforcement officials tell TMZ that no drugs or alcohol were found in Adler’s system, but the 27-year old had struggled with mental illness in the past. After Newport Harbor went off the air, Adler tried to break into the world of acting, earning roles in such films as Make It or Break It and The Fish Tank. Both were released in 2009. Adler got started in Hollywood around the same time as Jennifer Lawrence. The two struck up a little friendship about 10 years ago, posing together on the red carpet in a photo from the 2007 Movieguide Awards that is making the Internet rounds along with this sad news. Not much else is known about Clay Adler, so we’ll end with his official bio, courtesy of his time as an MTV reality star: Clay Adler is a junior and although shy with girls, he is regarded as Newport Harbor’s hottest guy. Born and raised in Newport Harbor, Adler takes full advantage of his oceanfront playground. Whether he’s fishing from his speedboat off Balboa Island or surfing on one of Newport Harbor’s famous breaks, Adler catches girls’ glances wherever he goes. Adler’s humble attitude belies his looks and he often turns to Grant, his gregarious friend, for a boost of confidence. While it seems Adler could have any girl he wants, his shyness has kept him from having a relationship. But when Adler develops real feelings for Chrissy — and she responds accordingly — it could be his chance to break out. Bullied Teen Commits Suicide, Shoots Self in Front of Parents

On Tuesday of this week, Brandy Vela sent a text message to her siblings. “I love you so much just remember that please and I’m so sorry for everything,” it read. Just moments after sending the message, Vela committed suicide via self-inflicted gunshot wound, pulling the trigger in front of her parents and grandparents in her Texas bedroom. She was 18 years old. What led to this horrible tragedy? According to CNN reporting, Brandy’s relatives – most notably her sister, Jackie Vela – think her suicide was the result of years of endless cyberbullying. “People would make up fake Facebook accounts, and they would message her, and she wouldn’t respond, and they would still come at her,” Jackie told CNN two days after saying goodbye to her sister. “They would say really, really mean things like, ‘Why are you still here?’ They would call her fat and ugly. She was beautiful, absolutely; the only thing people could find to pick on her was her weight.” In an interview with local station KPRC-TV, Jackie even explained how trolls would create fake dating profiles. They went to every possible end in order to torment this poor teenager. “They would put her number and they would put her pictures [on the sites] and lie about her age and say she is giving herself up for sex for free, to call her,” Jackie said. Police were alerted to these instances of bullying on numerous occasions, but there was very little they could do about it. “They couldn’t do anything because [the suspects] used an app and it wasn’t traceable and they couldn’t do something until something happened, like [a] fight,” Jackie explained. Jackie called her parents and grandparents after she received the aforementioned text message. These relatives then rushed home, entered Brandy’s room and bore witness to the unimaginable act of their loved one killing herself. Texas City Independent School District spokeswoman Melissa Tortorici told Us Weekly in a statement that Brandy “had a lot of friends and was thought of warmly by her peers and teachers.” In an email to CNN, she added: “Brandy was well-liked and friendly. Texas City High School students really liked her. She has touched many people as evident by the outpouring of love from her schoolmates.” Brandy’s organs, including her beautiful blue eyes, are being donated to those in need. And sheriff’s deputies will be addressing cyberbullying with students next week. “Today’s young adults and teenagers have grown up with technology and they have access to it 24/7. Many times they become very bold over technology and text things they would never say directly to someone’s face,” Tortorici said. She concluded: “It’s extremely difficult to stop someone from sending messages when apps make it easy to remain anonymous.” What a truly horrific story. May Brandy Vela rest in peace.

Parents Sue After Bullied Teen Commits Suicide via Jezebel The parents of a teenage boy who committed suicide after being targeted by bullies filed a lawsuit against district where he attended school, alleging officials knew their son was being targeted but did nothing to protect him. Matthew Burdette’s parents are suing the San Diego Unified School District after a video of the teen masturbating went viral, leading to severe bullying that caused their son to take his life. The Burdettes allege school officials at University City High School where Matthew,14, attended knew about the video and the bullying yet did nothing to intervene. Matthew killed himself during the Thanksgiving holiday in 2013. He left behind a suicide note for his family that shed light on the harassment he was enduring from classmates. “He said, I can’t do school anymore,” Matthew’s aunt Laura Burdette Mechak said to ABC 10. “I have no friends. I don’t want to kill myself but I have no friends.” After his death, family members turned to University City High School looking for answers. What could have happened at school to drive their son, a Boy Scout and member of the wrestling team, to kill himself? Mechak said school officials refused to give them any insight into what was going on with Matthew. “Kids came forward to help them figure out what was going on,” she told ABC 10. It was then that the family first became aware of the video. After months of investigating, this is what the family knows so far. On Nov. 15, Matthew was kicked out of a classroom for eating sunflower seeds. His teacher gave him no direction on where to go or what to do (she didn’t send him to the principal’s office; she just told him to leave the class). That’s when he went to the bathroom and reportedly began to masturbate in one of stalls. At that point, another student entered the bathroom and peered over the door. He used his phone to record Matthew masturbating. Video taping someone engaging in a sexual act without their consent is disturbing and completely horrifying on its own, but don’t forget this is the age where everything gets shared on the Internet. Sure enough, the student immediately shared the footage via Snapchat and other social media sites. That’s where Matthew’s nightmare began. I don’t think we have to explain that high school students and sexually explicit material are a bad combination which only seem to lead to brutal torment from teenagers. As you can imagine, Matthew was relentlessly teased about the video. Mechak detailed the extent of the teasing, which went way past a few schoolyard bullies. “It went viral. It went beyond his school,” she said. “It went to other schools in California. Kids in the neighborhood who didn’t go to Matthew’s school had heard about it and seen the video that was taken of him. After two weeks of the bullying, Matthew reached his breaking point. His body was found on Nov. 29.

Rebecca Sedwick Suicide: Two Girls Arrested For Bullying 12-Year-Old

Instead of boarding the school bus as usual September 10, Rebecca Sedwick changed the name on her cell phone to “That Dead Girl” and sent a text to a friend. “I’m jumping and I can’t take it anymore,” the 12-year-old wrote, then proceeded to climb a tower at an abandoned cement plant and leap to her death. Rebecca Sedwick Commits Suicide After Cyber-Bullying Police believe Rebecca had been bullied for more than a year, and two girls, ages 12 and 14, have been charged with aggravated stalking as a result. Deputies arrested the girls and released them to their parents’ custody. The 14-year-old girl, whose name is being withheld, allegedly began taunting Rebecca Sedwck in the halls of Crystal Lake Middle School in Lakeland, Fla. The 14-year-old also started dating Rebecca’s former boyfriend. Rebecca was reportedly “terrorized” by as many as 15 girls on social media, receiving messages like “you should die” and “why don’t you go kill yourself?” According to police, the 14-year-old and the 12-year-old, whose name is also being withheld, stepped up the bullying. The Sherriff’s Office reports: “Several students corroborated stories of both girls bullying Sedwick … through name-calling, intimidation, threats to beat her up, and at least one physical fight.” Rebecca switched schools, but the bullying continued online. After Rebecca killed herself, one of the girls posted on Facebook, “yes, I believed Rebecca and she killed herself I don’t give a [expletive],” police say. “Words are hurtful,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. “They are as hurtful – and sometimes more hurtful – than sticks and stones. Ask Rebecca’s family.”

Of all the places and days for this man to take his own life… Man Commits Suicide In Wife’s Hospital Room After She Gives Birth The birth of a new baby was overshadowed by a horrific tragedy for one Houston couple after the father of the child shot himself to death inside the hospital room where his wife had just given birth three hours earlier. via Chicago Tribune A Houston man shot himself to death in his wife’s hospital room on Sunday, 3 1/2 hours after she had given birth to their baby, police said. “Family members said he has been distraught recently,” Houston police spokesman John Cannon said on Monday. The man, whose identity has not been released, shot himself in a private room at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital in Northwest Houston on Sunday afternoon, Cannon said. He died shortly after being transported to another hospital, according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. His wife, who gave birth earlier on Sunday, was not injured, and Cannon said the baby was not in the room at the time. Teen Commits Suicide After Facebook Post According to Mail Online A 19-year-old man committed suicide following a sarcastic Facebook post about his arrest warrant by his local sheriff’s office, his family said. The sister of Andrew Cain is demanding an apology from an Idaho sheriff’s deputy she says harassed her brother on the social networking site in the days before his death. Alise Smith said her brother’s decision to end his life was his own, but she believes the comments that he received about arrest warrants in Latah County became too much for him. The sheriff’s office in Idaho posted a picture of Andrew Cain with the message: ‘We have decided that Andrew Cain is no longer the Wanted Person of the Week… he is the Wanted Person of the Month of June. Congratulations!’ Smith, of Pullman, Washington, said a deputy also sent private messages to her brother on Facebook. Cain fatally shot himself Sunday, Whitman County Coroner Pete Martin said. Sheriff Wayne Rausch told the Associated Press that a deputy did exchange messages with Cain, but the printout he saw showed it was Cain who initiated the exchange by telling the deputy he liked his new wanted poster. The deputy replied that if Cain turned himself in, he’d give him a copy. ‘How this could be construed as taunting or rude or harassment or anything like that, I’m at a loss,’ Rausch said. Smith said she understood the ‘wanted poster’ but felt the ‘congratulations’ comment and the private messages were an abuse of power. Rausch said he told the employee who added the ‘congratulations’ to the post that it was not appropriate and not to do it again. Smith told KLEW-TV that she received a text from her brother early last week that said he felt like putting a bullet in his brain. The message included a screen shot of Facebook messages from a deputy, Smith said. ‘Eventually, it all just got too much to handle because other people were texting him and messaging him on Facebook and he just couldn’t handle all of the people telling him how awful a person he was,’ Smith told KLEW. Both Martin and Rausch called the death a tragedy. ‘That he felt necessary to end his life over facing consequences is tragic,’ Rausch said in his statement. We’re not being mean, but if that Facebook post was all it took for him to take his life then maybe his elevator didn’t go all the way to the top.

WTF?!? 7th Grade Home School Student Commits Suicide At The Michigan Middle School He Used To Attend!

Just sad… Michigan Home School Student Commits Suicide At Former Middle School Via MLive A Dowagiac teen who shot himself in a woods near Dowagiac Middle School Monday morning has died. Dowagiac Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson identified the boy as 13-year-old Darren James Price at a news conference Monday afternoon. A school custodian spotted Price with a handgun on school grounds about 6:40 a.m., Atkinson said. He notified the principal, who tried to make contact with the teen. When Price ran into a woods near the building, the principal called police. Officers set up a perimeter around the area. Soon after that, a single gunshot was heard and the teen was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Atkinson said. Price was taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac where he died, Atkinson said. Atkinson said it appears Price was “acting alone.” He said the investigation is ongoing, and police are unsure if Price had plans to hurt anyone else at the school. “We may never know why this happened,” Atkinson said.
