Valerie Bertinelli and Tom Vitale: Married!

Now that’s starting 2011 off right. Valerie Bertinelli married her boyfriend of seven years, financial planner Tom Vitale, in Malibu last night. “We’re so happy!” the Hot in Cleveland star says. Bertinelli, 50, and Vitale, 49, exchanged vows in front of about 100 guests at their home, including Valerie’s son Wolfie, 19, from her two-decade marriage to rocker Eddie Van Halen, who also attended. Sounds wonderful. Bertinelli and Vitale met in 2004 and got engaged last March. Congratulations!

This documentary talks about getting America off oil and on biodiesel. Josh Tickell, (activist, environmentalist and the director of this film), promotes sustainability, health and green living. He examines our dependence on oil, its monopoly and its influential power on our politics through lobbyism. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upTCSSkxlxE&feature=player_embedded He also mentions the Iraq War as driven by the oil and the 9/11 tragedy that acted as a catalytic event for it. He wants Biodiesel that comes from algae, from trees, garbage, cooked oil, solar and wind power to be the main source of energy. He mentions the argument that biodiesel and ethanol, respectively coming from soy and corn, would compete with our food sources leading to food shortages and raising prices, therefore he suggests biodiesel that comes from algae farms instead which should harm no one. That is correct and I couldn't agree more with him but what he does not mention is the other huge issue with these food crops and that is GMO. Genetically engineered plants like corn, soy and canola, are one of the most terrible threats to our humanity and planet and that should be the first reason to be mentioned to dismiss this kind of biodiesel. Companies like Monsanto are certainly expanding their power trying to push this false alternative energy. Also, he never mentions HEMP as the greatest, most promising form of biofuel and also the least promoted. I am definitely on the same page with Josh Tickell and his film when it comes to the elimination of our oil dependency and advice everyone to watch it. A while ago, I grew tired to see temporary moratoriums and created this petition, the one petition that can change our WORLD, asking our government to eliminate oil, coal and gas altogether and forever. The price to pay for these energy sources is too high, too many deaths, too much sickness, too much control and our Freedom and our choice as citizens and consumers is long GONE. Take it back! Please, sign this Petition and support alternative, safe, renewable energy sources now. http://environment.change.org/petitions/view/no_more_drill_baby_drill No more waiting, no more killing, no more “Drill, baby, drill”. Too little, way too late : Fidel Castro concedes that the Cuban economic model isn’t working

Fidel Castro tells an American journalist that the Cuban economic model isn't working. The former Cuban president made the jaw-dropping comment to Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic. Goldberg says the ailing Cuban leader's remarks came almost as an aside over lunch recently in Havana. “The Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore,” Castro told Goldberg. The writer said he was so stunned that he asked his companion at the lunch, Julia Sweig, a leading Latin America scholar at the Council on Foreign Relations, if he had heard Castro correctly. Would you like bruises with that? MP Paul Gibson bashed in McDonald’s carpark … NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA…

A LABOR MP was king-hit, thrown against a car and bashed in the carpark of a suburban McDonald's. The NSW MP claimed his American assailant repeatedly told him, “This is how we do it in America” during Sunday's attack outside the fast-food restaurant in Thornleigh, in Sydney's north. Paul Gibson, who reported the incident to police, said he was lucky to survive the attack, which knocked him out. “How he didn't kill me I don't know,” he said, adding that he and a female companion were parking after a function when he gave the man sitting in the next car a “friendly toot”. The man then got out and guided Mr Gibson in. The MP for Blacktown said the man then accused him of running over his foot, before king-hitting him. He said the man grabbed him by the throat, threw him into the bonnet of a 4WD and smashed his head on the cement. Mr Gibson said the man repeatedly said “This is how we do it in America” as he pounded Mr Gibson's head. When people came to drag off the attacker, Mr Gibson said he said, “This is how we do it in Australia” and hit the man back, causing him to bleed. The pair were separated and Mr Gibson claimed he was told by a bystander that the man had a revolver. Mr Gibson and his companion, who he said was a “friend” and would not name, then made a report to police. Mr Gibson said yesterday: “I got out and he said, 'You ran over my foot'. I said, 'Mate, if I ran over your foot, I'm sorry, are you OK?' “I went to walk into McDonald's – the next thing I know I'm in la la land. I didn't know if I'd had a heart attack or what. “Next thing I knew I'm flying through the air. Everyone tells me this bloke's come up, punched me in the back of the head, grabbed me by the throat. “I could hear him say, 'This is how we do it in America, this is how we do it in America.' How he didn't kill me I don't know.” Mr Gibson said he was close to losing consciousness during the attack and has since had X-rays to identify whether he had a broken shoulder and ribs. Police are appealing for information to identify the attacker. The man police want to speak to was “of African American appearance, 185-187cm tall, an acne-scarred complexion and with a solid build”. added by: eden49
