Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, More Are 2011 ‘VH1 Divas’

On Thursday (October 27), it was announced that Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott, Florence and the Machine and Jessie J will serve as the star-studded lineup for the long-running concert event, which airs December 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on VH1. This year, VH1 is paying tribute to prominent birthplaces of soul music, including Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis and Philadelphia. Blige and company are expected to pay homage to these cities and the genre through their own soulful tracks as well as some of the genre’s classic tunes onstage at New York’s iconic Hammerstein Ballroom. And it’s not just women who are in on the celebration, but also the Roots, who have been confirmed as the event’s house band. ?uestlove is set to pull double-duty during the concert as musical director too. In a press release for the ceremony, VH1’s Lee Rolontz shared his thoughts on the 2011 theme. “This year’s telecast will showcase the vast impact soul music has had on the 21st century’s music and pop culture landscape as our talented and diverse lineup will attest,” he said. “This year’s Divas offers a modern twist on soul music, all while tipping its hat to the legacy of key cities that created this musical heritage.” Additional announcements regarding even more performers, presenters and special guests are to be expected in the coming weeks. Clarkson took to Twitter shortly after the announcement to share her excitement. “Super stoked to announce that I am performing at #VH1DIVAS!!” the songstress tweeted. “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” marks the former “American Idol” alum’s second appearance on the series. ‘X Factor’: Melanie Amaro Stands Out As Five Go Home

Among those sent away during the two-and-a-half-hour episode was Dexter Haygood, the formerly homeless contestant who once lived on L.A.’s Skid Row. Haygood — described early on as the “funky phenomenon” by his mentor Nicole Scherzinger — said he was “kinda confused” by the dismissal, which followed his bizarro-world mash-up of Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” though he then said he didn’t know why he was confused. “Right now I’m in the boggle zone, which is the 21st century twilight zone,” Haygood explained. Also sent packing during the episode were 20-year-old Tiah Tolliver, a favorite of Simon Cowell’s who was never liked by the other judges; 22-year-old Simone Battle, who plugged her upcoming music video even as she was being given the boot; crooner Phillip Lomax, the 22-year-old who was saddled with singing the outside-of-his-comfort-zone “I’m a Believer” on the episode by his mentor L.A. Reid; and brother duo the Brewer Boys, who apologized to their mentor Paula Abdul (older brother Justin referred to her as “Ms. Paula”) for letting her down in their performance. Aerosmith singer’s accident causes postponement of band’s South American show. By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler Photo: Getty Images Whenever Steven Tyler falls down, chances are Aerosmith is going to get some time off. The latest tumble by the 63-year-old rock and roll icon and “American Idol” judge took place on Tuesday in Paraguay, when Tyler reportedly slipped and fell in his hotel bathroom, ending him to a local emergency room. According to a Reuters report, Tyler spent four hours at La Costa medical center in Paraguay’s capital and received emergency dental work and stitches to repair cuts to his face and the loss of two teeth. The incident forced Aerosmith to cancel Tuesday night’s show in Asuncion, Paraguay, which was part of their current Latin American tour. The outing kicked off on Saturday in Lima, Peru, and is slated to hit La Plata, Argentina, on Friday and swing through Brazil, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador and Mexico before heading to Japan in late November. “Mr. Tyler had a small accident that prevents him from staging the concert tonight,” said Marcelo Antunez, a spokesperson for the show’s promoter. “He is fine, he’s in his hotel but he’s not able to do the concert.” The concert has been rescheduled for Wednesday (October 26) night. Another spokesperson for the promoter, Nicolas Garzia, tweeted that Tyler had been dehydrated and was suffering gastrointestinal problems before the tumble. The last time Tyler fell was in August 2009, when he slipped off a stage in South Dakota and was airlifted to a hospital, which forced the postponement of the group’s North American tour. Back in 2010 was the start of the best weekend of my life. Not only was I was going to meet the one and only Justin Bieber, but I was also going to meet my best friends that I made on Twitter , I was super excited about this. I was going to the concert and meet and greets for Miami 12-18-10 and in Tampa also 12-19-10. The day goes by, I meet my friends and gave one of them the news that she was going to meet Justin with me because she hadn’t met him before, she started crying as I told her I had picked her. Lol. The time arrives and we get to the American Airlines Arena, we pick up our meet and greet wristbands and go stand in line to meet Justin. Our time comes and we get lucky enough to have our solo picture with Justin. My friend walked up to him and basically tackled him ha-ha, I walked up to him, turned around and said, “Look Justin” (I was showing him my tattoo of him) Justin said, “What is that?” *He walks up closer to see clearly* I said, “It says NEVER SAY NEVER and OLLG at the bottom. Justin just stared at it and pointed to Kenny, who came closer and asks, “Wait what does it say?”So he reads it and starts saying how awesome my tattoo is. I look back at Justin and he goes, “Is it real?” I told him, “Yes of course it’s real!” and Justin backs away from me with a smile on his face and starts screaming ‘SWAGGER’ in the meet and greet room! Kenny and I were cracking up haha, so Justin put his arm around my friend and hugs me with the other one (while Justin just kept on saying about my tattoo: that’s amazing, that’s awesome, that’s amazing). We took the picture, I give him another hug and I walked away saying my goodbyes. Justin said, “Wait wait!..” I turned around and looked at him. He said, “What if you ever stop liking me?” I looked at him and said, “That’s never going to happen.” He did that smile that we all melt for and said “nah?” “Nope” and started laughing. Justin and I fist pumped so I was walking away and Kenny goes, “Hey! It was very nice meeting you”, I answered, “Same here Kenny! See ya at the show!” Later on, the show started, songs played, screams are all over the place. Then all of a sudden, I see Alfredo Flores walking up my way. I stop him and said, “LOOK AT MY TATTOO!” He looked at it and told me, “I’m going to take a picture of it”, I turned around and he takes the picture, he shows it to me to make sure I’m cool with it, I said yeah it’s fine, and the he says,  ”I’m going to show it to Justin” . At this point, I couldn’t BELIEBE what was happening to me. It was the time of the show where Justin turns on the lights to point out everyone he sees in the audience. I started jumping up and down pointing at my tattoo in hope of him seeing me, he did! Justin points at me and says, “I SEE YOU TATTOO GIRL”! *eekkkkk* The rest of the night my friends and I enjoyed the concert to the fullest. We got home and waited for the next day to do it all again in Tampa, FL. So the next day, we get to Tampa. As I’m in the meet & greet line, I walk into the room where Justin is. Kenny signals my group to go in, and as soon as he saw me, Kenny says, “What?!?! What are you doing here?” I said, “I just got here from Miami!” Kenny looks at me with the biggest “Omg she’s dedicated” face. At this point Justin had finished greeting the other girls, so when it was my turn, Kenny taps Justin on his shoulder and tells him, “Look Justin, it’s tattoo girl from yesterday!” Justin now sees me, he gives me a hug and patting my tattoo says, “What are you doing here?, yea I remember you, Alfredo showed me your picture from yesterday!” At this point I was in heaven! Justin and the crew knew me and Kenny had named me “Tattoo Girl”. We took the picture, walked out and we head out to our seats. I saw Alfredo walking my way, I stopped him, and said, “Hey Fredo! I’m here also!” The show starts and we have a great time! With an occasional “Hi” and “What’s up!” from Kenny as he walked around our section! My name is Thayane and I’m a BRAZILIEBER! I didn’t meet Justin yet but I can say that I’ve had one of the best moments of my life at the concert! Firstly, I was really excited to Justin come to Brazil. When the dates came out, I was really really happy and nervous at the same time. Justin has a lot of fans in the whole world and here, in Brazil, it’s not different. I knew to get VIP tickets for his concert, I’d have to sacrifice some things, but I don’t regret anything. I spent 3 days in a big line to buy tickets for the concert. It was crazy! There, I made many friendships with amazing beliebers, you can see in the pictures! It was very difficult staying under the HARD Rio De Janeiro sun, but I’d to do everything again! On the day of the concert, I was so happy. I wasn’t believing that I was there. It was crazy! I was waiting since the beginning of 2010 for that moment…it was a dream came true.I don’t have words to describe that day! It was FANTASTIC. I saw Justin so close. He was so adorable. When he said, ”I don’t wanna see any Brazilian beliebers crying today because when U smile I smile,” I was just screaming like a crazy person! He’s my inspiration for life. I love him so much. To see him in my country, in my city, singing to us, BRAZILIEBERS, it was AMAZING! I’ll always remember that day like one of the best days of my life!Like I said when I started to write, I didn’t meet Justin yet, but NEVER SAY NEVER! I’ll never give up because Justin taught me to always believe in my dreams.  This video shows Justin singing one of the more inspirations songs to me ever, NEVER SAY NEVER! ‘I’m trying to create a new sound,’ Bieber tells MTV News about follow-up to My World 2.0 , due ‘early next year.’ By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News It seems sort of odd to talk about Justin Bieber ‘s next album, given that his new album — the holiday-riffic Under the Mistletoe — doesn’t hit stores until November 1. But, when MTV News caught up with Bieber this past weekend in Santiago, Chile — where he was wrapping up his two-year My World Tour in record-setting fashion — he was more than ready to start discussing the follow-up to his massive My World 2.0 album, mostly because he’s been hard at work on it for a while now, and the finish line is definitely in sight. “What’s happening is: get off this tour, and then my [holiday] album’s coming out, so I have to go back out and promote that album … and then after that … it’s almost time for my next album, so then everything starts over again,” Bieber told us. “We’ve already started [working on it], but we’re going to be going in every day and working with new people and trying to find the best sound, because I’m going to be recording different styles, different things until I find a solid 15 songs that I love. … I’m going to be recording as many songs as I possibly can.” As for the release date for the new album, Bieber doesn’t know specifics just yet, but he promised it’ll be out “soon … early next year.” For fans seeking a sneak peek at the next step in his musical evolution, they’ve only got to check out his recent remix of Drake’s “Trust Issues.” “I loved the song; I thought it was a dope song. I actually cover it in my concert,” he said. “I’m going to mature; I’m going to evolve. I don’t feel like I’m going to do it too fast or too slow: I’m going to do it at the pace that I feel comfortable doing it.” Of course, that’s just one direction he’s hoping to head in. Because, first and foremost, Bieber said that on his next album, he’s looking to create something entirely new, while still maintaining a connection to his past. “I’m trying to create a new sound that people aren’t really used to hearing, so it might sound weird at first, but it’s going to be like when Justin Timberlake did FutureSex/LoveSounds : It was a new sound … acoustic guitar over hard drums,” he explained. “I want to find something that’s going to suit me and my fans are going to love and older people will like and younger people will like. But I’m always trying to keep my core fanbase, because the young people are what make everything cool. My name is Bianca, I’m 17 years old and I’m a belieber from Brazil. It was October 5th and I was having the best day of my life so far. It was the first time I went to Justin’s concert (I had travelled 8 hours to see him) and it was his first concert in Brazil. I was really close to the stage and I could see him  perfectly . When the concert ended, I went to my aunts house. Around 11pm I got a phone call from my friend Erika (@seniorforbieber) and she said, “Bianca, I won the  bieberfever.com  contest and WE ARE GOING TO MEET JUSTIN BIEBER AT 5pm TOMORROW”. I started crying. I seriously cried for two hours and I couldn’t sleep at all. The next afternoon, Erika and I went to the stadium where the concert was going to be. We got the meet & greet wristbands. Once we got into the stadium, we went to the meet & greet line. Around 5:30pm, we were in the same room as Justin Bieber. I saw him standing there, smiling. I walked and asked him for a hug. He hugged me, Erika and the other two girls that were with us. I was by his side, just looking at his face. I couldn’t believe that I was so close to him. He signed our shirts and we had to leave . We were with Justin for about 4 minutes. The best 4 minutes of my life by the way. T he whole experience was amazing. I went to 4 concerts, in 2 different cities, I met Justin, Scooter, Alfredo and Kenny.
